  1. It's definitely situational, and something you'll learn as you play the crew. I like to bunch up my deployment generally to help with early railwalking, so everyone will be in range of Kang's pulse and abilities like Sparks'. After that it really just depends on the board state and where models need to be/what they need to be doing.
  2. I started Malifaux with Mei, and she's a fun intro master and crew! The one thing I'd say is really important for them after you've got the basic game mechanics down is figuring out and practicing your unpacks. As in, it's worth setting up some terrain, generating a random pool, grabbing your crew, and then deploy all your models and go through all the movement of your first turn. Then rinse and repeat. Foundry's big schtick is Ride the Rails, and getting your rail lines set up well is both important and not always intuitive.
  3. Unfortunately, while Wyrd does have some good representation, they also have a lot of pretty big misses in terms of leaning into tropes and stereotypes. This wasn't one I was aware of, but now that it's pointed out and I've done a bit of reading it seems that they've definitely fallen into it. The related trope about Asian women is absolutely a problem in the game as it stands. Of the 54 masters in the game, these are the ones I'm aware of having any sort of sexual or romantic relationships or actions mentioned: - Kirai (as mentioned, an Asian woman who used to be a prostitute, and whose lost love is a wealthy white man) - Mei (unspecified relationship with English Ivan, both sex and at least some level of romance implied) - English Ivan (see Mei) - Youko (runs the Qi and Gong, but don't think she's actually ever directly implied to have been a prostitute herself) - Marcus (Black man, Myranda, a white woman, is his "mate") - Maxine (white woman married to a white man, their relationship is shown as both loving and supportive) - Lucas McCabe (white man, his fiancee was killed as part of his tragic backstory) - Levi (cannonical r@pist) - Seamus (cannonical r@pist and pimp) - Yan Lo (currently the resurrected spirit of an old man, but has lots of descendants) - Basse (Black man, has a daughter, I think I remember his wife dying as part of his tragic backstroy, but not 100% on this one) - Lady Justice (white woman, had a romantic relationship with her last Judge, who was killed during a 2e story) - Hoffman (attempted some awkward flirting with Sonnia Criid, was shot down) - Mah Tuckett (gremlin, has children) - Ophelia (gremlin, has children) You'll also note that none of these relationships are queer at all, which is another miss. And the Black characters have a single parent and a really uncomfortable "behaving like animals" relationship in terms of their representation. Update: found another few instances going through an old thread - Molly pines romantically over a male clerk in one story - Ramos kisses Alyce while dancing with her at the Hollow Marsh Gala (and Levi flips his lid about it) - Colette is described as having flirted with both men and women in order to manipulate them - Asami dreams of having a husband and children one day - Lynch runs an establishment *literally called the Honeypot*
  4. This does actually play into the negative trope that OP is talking about. From https://the-take.com/watch/the-asexual-asian-man-end-the-undesirable-stereotype: "Finally, the Asexual Asian has also been repeatedly portrayed as a Martial Arts Star: Trish: “Is it true what they say about Hong Kong?” Kai: “What’s that?” Trish: “You know, all you guys do Kung Fu.” Kai: “Of course. State law.” - Romeo Must Die This particular portrayal—and the popularity of the Kung Fu movie—began in large part with Chinese martial artist and actor Bruce Lee. Lee’s departure from the portrayal of the weak and submissive Asian man helped audiences see Asian men as strong and masculine, and gave a lot of Asian men confidence and pride in their heritage. Still, Lee’s popularity also helped perpetuate stereotypes about Asian men—for example, their innate knowledge of martial arts or other “Asian” forms of fighting—and he was rarely given love interests or romantic partners in his films. In Lee’s most famous film, Enter the Dragon, his co-competitors Roper and Williams both spend the night with prostitutes, while his character stays focused on the mission."
  5. Except release version didn't require any markers: 2 markers would be a nice compromise between the two versions.
  6. This is like how last night while playing Seeker for the first time I discovered that Lamplighters' 1/2/3 heal is actually on an attack action, so unless you don't relent and have a low card to cheat, it's usually still just a heal 1. Always sad to find a nonbo
  7. Consensus seems to be that it doesn't actually attach (other than through the telescope at the top). You *can* line it up such that it touches the back small wheel and glue it there for some added stability though.
  8. I think she's at a point where she could stand to get a small buff without unbalancing things. If she did get a defensive trigger I'd absolutely want it to be either enemy-only, or After Succeeding (potentially both, but a When Resolving, enemy-only could be interesting too). If the trigger had italtics to eat a scrap marker it'd make it somewhat situational (since she then couldn't declare it without spare scrap) but still interesting. If it were a small effect I think it could work. Honestly though I'd rather see buffs to Neil and Willie, and maybe a small one to Kang before Mei herself. If she did get anything, my first wishlist item would be lowering the TN on her bonus by 1-2. Since her crew doesn't draw cards at all, cheating the 6/8 you need for that to go off can actually be somewhat painful.
  9. I don't think she needs it, but dang that'd be a fun addition to her card.
  10. You can't choose to fail a shockwave duel, but you can choose not to ignore the shockwave (since friendly Oni *may* ignore it) and then either fail or cheat to fail the flip. If she's got the mask trigger that'll let you teleport an Oni up to a different marker durng Asami's activation, yeah. You could also potentially trigger it if you put Masked Agent on Asami, but that's going to be pretty limited utility.
  11. It's any one card, yeah. Definitely don't get multiples.
  12. That'll be unfortunate if that's how it shakes out, given that those three are already my least taken Foundry models with OG Mei.
  13. Okay, but consider this: Tanuki can help stack Poison and lets the Corpse Curator do a (*very* watered down) version of its MCM-trick to go btb with someone and deal unresisted damage at EOT. Is it a *good* synergy? Almost certainly not. Is it a fun/funny one? Absolutely!
  14. I think this is the first time I've seen someone actually recommend Yas post-nerf!
  15. Idk, is there anything about her that stands out as Synergy with the Statue?
  16. Not sure why you'd want Nightsilk over Damned or Sandworm though, and you probably don't want to be taking multiple OOK Beasts. Likely if you think the ability to apply ranged Stunned and Staggered will be relevant? Or could combo with Mr. Ngaatoro for a mini Poison subtheme, but that seems really niche.
  17. I think that's both a weakness and a strength. It allows them to play into more pools, which is great for newer players, or those who just want to focus on one keyword at a time.
  18. That should be from the stories in the upcoming Malifaux Burns book.
  19. Most tournaments would be fine with this, but this wouldn't be allowed at any that follow Gaining Grounds completely (aka 'official' ones like Adepticon). The rules include that any conversions must be based on the actual models they represent. It's pretty restrictive.
  20. Yeah, he turns an area about the size of a full apartment block into a glassed crater the second the mask comes off. And Sonnia's new title is 'Unmasked', implying that that's the power level she should be wielding. So it's, uh, a little inconsistent.
  21. Steam Powered Scoundrels did a reveal in their latest episode (and there are more upcoming from other podcasts and content creators!) https://steampoweredscoundrels.podbean.com/
  22. Do you know the pool, or just that the opponent is likely to bring Hoff? Regardless I'd avoid Mei, since she drops lots of scrap that Augmented models can eat for fun and profit.
