  1. Thanks for the tip! I'm thinking of boarding up the window and door after painting it, and making it look like an abandoned church. But the clockwork tip might just come in handy for basing some minis in the future!
  2. Looks great! I might have to try something like this at some point...
  3. Got my Razorspine Rattlers painted. Here they are in order of most to least favorite: The rust effect looks good enough in person, but it didn't quite turn out like I wanted it to. Oh well, still learning and getting better every time!
  4. Just got my scatter terrain order from Grabblecast -- workbenches out front, and the rest are terrain pieces: I think it matches the "Zoraida's Hut" theme well, and they should work well as scatter terrain in Malifaux (my partner and I are making our way through the starter set's encounters, and really liking it). Next up I'll do some zenith-lighting priming, which should buy me some time before I have to properly paint them.
  5. Thanks! That was a helpful tutorial. I might go over the shallow bits with the wood burner again, but seeing what was done with the base gives me some hope that this will work too. I was thinking of flocking the base and leaving it at that, but I might sand it down at an angle before I do that. I don't expect to put miniatures on the base, though maybe we'll want to when playing. I'll have to think about that some more... Maybe I'll just sand it flush with the walls, and work in some more stone patterns.
  6. I'm getting ready to start Malifaux soon, so I've decided to start getting some terrain in anticipation. I found this promising birdhouse at Walmart a few days ago, and decided that for $5 I'd give it a shot. A few minutes with a pencil and I had a good enough plan: A couple of evenings with a wood burner and it is starting to look decent: I'm not sure what my next steps will be, but I'm thinking of priming it black and dry brushing some light gray on the stones to give it some depth. I just don't know if the depressions left by the wood burner are deep enough (or well-defined enough) for that. I might try this out on a scrap piece of wood first... After painting, I will probably "board up" the windows and door, to give it an "abandoned cabin" kind of feel. That would go well with the "Forgotten Temple" mat I got from Mats by Mars (with 1" hexes overlaid, as measuring is a deal breaker with my spouse). Not sure what to do about the shingles and "base", though. I'm thinking about getting some molds from Happy Seppuku, but have no idea how well Green Stuff will adhere to wood. Any suggestions? Anyway, I can't wait to get started with Malifaux!
  7. Got the Silurids painted. I'm not as happy with them as I am with the executioners, but they still look good on the table. The photos do make the mistakes pop out though! Next up will be the Razorspine Rattlers!
  8. Thanks! The Army Painter washes and dry rust paint are proving to be really handy with these puppets!
  9. All 3 executioners are painted and sealed: There's definitely room for improvement, but I'm happy with how they turned out!
  10. Thanks! Picking out some bits of the pack with gold and silver sounds like a great idea -- but unfortunately I put the finishing touches on this guy last night, and sealed him this morning. As soon as I can put some matte varnish on the cloth bits, I'll post an updated photo. Hopefully in the next couple of days.
  11. EDIT: I've gotten hold of a booklet, so am no longer looking for one I'm eager to make the jump from puppet wars to Malifaux, but don't want most things from the starter set. In fact, the only thing I want is the starter booklet (with the 6 starting scenarios to gradually introduce the rules to new players). If you happen to own a starter set but no longer need the booklet, I'll gladly take it off your hands for a few bucks. Just to be clear, I am not looking for the starter set minis (I plan to start with other crews, and have plenty of puppets to use as extra crew members), nor the fate decks or full Malifaux 2E rules (I've got those already). Just the tiny booklet will do! I'm thinking $5 plus shipping to Continental US. Any takers? PA
  12. I've finally started painting my Puppet Wars miniatures in earnest, and was going to wait until I had a bunch finished before posting here, but I'd appreciate some feedback on this work-in-progress Executioner: I'm happy with the highlights on the body and cloth, but wonder if I should do a bit more on the backpack. That probably means I should, but since I've only been painting for a short while I figured I'd ask more experienced folks. What do you all think? --PA
  13. Got to play on the new board tonight, and really liked it. It really is much easier to read than the original PWU board, and the tokens for obstacles and benches stand out nicely. Also got to play Lucius vs Collette (using a metal Malifaux Lucius and a metal Coryphee as proxies). Neither wowed us, but it's an interesting change... For what it's worth, the green and purple translucent bases from Wyrd are perfect matches for the green and purple bench tokens in PWU. And a little poster tack keeps the PWU bases nicely nested in the bigger 30mm bases for as long as you need. Thanks to whomever gave me that tip!
  14. I was originally planning on making some furniture out of balsa wood (or whatever else I happen to have around the house), but ran across GrabbleCast on etsy, found their website (https://www.grabblecast.ru/) and blew through my monthly hobby budget by ordering a few things. I'll post some pics when they come in!
  15. Bummer! I guess I'll have to put some proxies together for them... Yeah, I saw that. I actually got all 4 boosters from Noble Knight, but my pawns 1 came mispacked (no Sorrows or Moleman, but an extra Bad Juju and Silurid instead). I guess it's easier to just get another booster in the end. Thanks!
  16. Hi all, I'm missing a few miniatures for Puppet Wars, so am looking for the following: 1 (or more) Moleman Puppet 1 (or more) Sorrows Puppet Any and all color Teddy Puppets, with their respective cards 1 Collette Puppet 1 Cassandra Puppet I have a few metal puppets to trade (nothing exciting, just the ones that overlap with the Unstitched plastic puppets), and am willing to pay $ within reason. I'm located in the continental U.S., for what it's worth (shipping-wise). Thanks, PA
  17. After a couple of days work (most of it spent waiting for the wood glue or Tung oil to dry), I have a homemade Puppet Wars board: The hexagons measure 2" across, making the board a bit bigger than the original, and the plain wood (and burned edges) make it easier to read than the (admittedly beautiful) unstitched board. The board comes apart into smaller chunks, which will hopefully make it easy to store: Next up I'll add rubber bumpers to the bottom of each hexagon, to keep them from sliding around my glass table, and will work out a storage solution. And in the meantime, I've started painting some of the minutes. These Wyrd plastics are so detailed... Really fun to paint!
  18. Wow, I teach higher ed (including teaching and developing online courses with Canvas) and it would never have occurred to me that Canvas could be used as a wikispaces substitute for something like this! I guess I just compartmentalize work and play too much... Anyway, nicely done! I agree that using modules for the layout is best, and the only thing I would suggest is making sure that information is not duplicated anywhere on the site (or it will be hell to update later), and keep things simple. I would even hide the "pages" link in the menu. Just have the front page and the modules page showing (I am not sure if the files tab is important to anyone but content editors). Canvas has a nagging habit of crashing when pages are accessed by different routes (modules vs pages list, etc.). Limiting viewer's options to the modules page should eliminate problems in the future. Best, PA
  19. Cool, I didn't know you could just print the errata. Puppet wars brings a lot of minis, but you are right: it might be worth looking at how much it would cost to buy just the cards I need. Thanks!
