  1. Thanks, Mason! All the best in everything else that you do.
  2. I thank that's likely, and it makes me assume (and we all know how dangerous that can be!) that Firebugs will be one of the first in the Arcanist faction to get new Minion and Enforcer models in M3E, after the one we already know about for Chimera, of course. Another possibility is that several of the Versatile models are going to have good synergy with Kaeris and the Firebugs, perhaps even more than many of the other masters, to help even out her hiring pool. I'm thinking it could be that the Effigy and/or Emissary might interact with the burning condition somehow, perhaps followed by the Mechanical Rider (who helpfully has fire-like effects in her sculpt). Next most likely seems to be the Saboteurs. They come in the same box as the Fire Golem, after all, and the idea of setting things ablaze certainly fits with the theme of sabotage!
  3. Congrats! It's excellent! The tree trunk and swampy bit on the base have really contributed to the overall effect, and I really like the vibrant red colour of the fresh blood effect. Which paint did you use for that? GW/Citadel Blood for the Blood God paint, or something more affordable? 😜
  4. Ha! I thought that was a cricket. 🦗 To be fair, I don't have my glasses on. 🤓
  5. I just unlocked the 2 of Crows by doing a miniature in Games Workshop style! I accomplished this by selecting identical poses of a lone trooper miniature in a dated aesthetic and listed them for individual sale only on eBay for $55 Australian dollars each. With a minimum-to-be-even-slightly-effective squad size of 6, that's a paltry initial investment of only $330. Of course, a serious player would want to run several larger squads totalling up to 6 times that, including those they would need to butcher to try to convert to the special weapons (at another $25 each). Needless to say, there has been a rush of orders. At time of writing I am temporarily out of stock. I'm working on unlocking the 1 of Crows by making a miniature look so pallid and sickly that it needs to be euthanized. The resultant full-page ego stroke for the magazine is currently at the typesetters.
  6. Absolutely, leaving parts translucent while painting the rest is going to be an effort. In addition to masking, and the challenges of maintaining translucency during assembly, in a recent conversation with @Viruk, the matter of somehow polishing the translucent parts after the paint was applied elsewhere came up. Something else that I read said that fingerprints on the translucent parts from the process can be a problem. I'm also toying with the idea of adding shades and glazes to some of the transparent parts themselves (but not opaque paint). But more about that project is to be revealed in the coming months. 😉
  7. I'm not @Caedrus, but I like to follow the wisdom that "everyone is entitled to my opinion." 😉 Seriously though, I will be invested in the translucent mini issue later on in the year. Speaking for myself, I think translucent minis should absolutely count if you are part-painting and basing them. Besides, they're tournament legal completely unpainted, if I'm not mistaken.
  8. My first 2019 pledge for Minion level: one Mannequin for 4 soulstones.
  9. Hi again @BeerNinja, awesome username by the way! 😊 Sorry, I was doing a run-and-post above just as I was leaving work. Now I have a bit more time to give you more than a one-word proclamation! Full disclosure, I'm not a Gremlins (aka Bayou) player myself. The first thing you should be aware of is that Wyrd have announced some information about the coming 3rd edition of the game, but there is no date as yet published for its expected launch. In M3E, you should know that Brewmaster will no longer be a cross-faction master with the Ten Thunders. Another change is that miniatures with the 2nd edition Mercenary characteristic will no longer be able to be hired by all factions in M3E. Here is a link to the recent announcement about the keywords and factions as they currently stand in M3E. https://www.wyrd-games.net/news/2018/12/12/waldos-weekly-i-am-the-keyword-master It looks like anything with the keyword of Tri-Chi will be a safe bet for your Brewmaster games. After that, the Versatile Bayou models indicated with an * are potentially secondary options, but I will let the Gremlins/Bayou players go into more detail about which Versatile models might work over the others. Bearing in mind the above caveat about the impending edition change, this site has some information about Brewmaster crews as they are in M2E. It used to be known as the Pull My Finger Wiki, but it's had a change of hosting. FYI, it's not an official site, so there may be inaccuracies now and again. https://canvas.instructure.com/courses/1293024/pages/The Brewmaster?titleize=0 Have fun! 😁
  10. Very creative, astmospheric, and well-executed. Top job!
  11. I see. Well I hope you will receive a suitably-mollifying, European-specific, currently-dated explanation and apology soon.
  12. Have you seen this official statement?
  13. I'd be very interested to see a game of Euripides versus Rasputina, where ice pillars might be contested, and each possibly used to either Master's advantage or detriment? 🤓
  14. Additionally, in the next edition, the models will no longer be in the hiring pool of any faction other than Guild and Neverborn respectively. They will be versatile models within their factions, though, which increases their utility a little.
  15. Wyrd hopes you will buy the Jakob Lynch box and run Beckoners, Depleted and Mr Graves in Ten Thunders, in addition to playing in Neverborn. Then, realize you want to add Mr Tannen and Gwyneth Maddox. Following that, they further hope you might decide to add Yasunori and the TT Effigy and Emissary. Oh yeah, the Dawn Serpent is versatile, that could come in handy. Oh, and you might need more ranged support for certain games, so the Fuhatsu and Samurai are givens. Those Obsidian Statues are awesome minis, throw in a few of those, and who doesn't want to run a giant flaming wheel with a disembodied head? The Wanyudo is a decision that makes itself. But, what to do with the other miniatures that come with the Wanyudo? Well, since you already own so many versatile TT models by that point, picking up the Yan Lo box becomes an obvious choice... A lesson in the Sunk Cost Fallacy. Ask me to tell you why I decided it was a good idea to buy so many Resser models on an expensive tangent after deciding to play Arcanist Marcus. Wow, I could use all of these Beasts with Test Subjects McMourning. But McMourning is going to need Rafkin, and the Little Gassers, and the Emissary, and... 💲💲💲
  16. Wow. Definitely food for thought. Answers some questions while raising others. 😉 I'm going to mull it over in my Scatterbrain for a while before making specific comments. Thanks to @Kyle for posting this!
  17. Thanks for all of your effort, @Franchute! Unfortunately I dropped-out fairly early during the 2018 challenge as things got more personally difficult. I hope to start a new medical treatment soon that will hopefully solve some of the problems of 2018 (and before). In light of that, I would like to please sign up again as a Minion, and I hope I get all the way through the coming year this time. Thanks for putting your hand up, @Caedrus. 😊
  18. I was hoping to make it to Canberra for this but unfortunately it won't be possible this time around. 😞
  19. Hi mate, if you've got email notifications enabled from your topic, I'd be eager to get in touch. Brisbane reprazent!
  20. @Franchute Second Mulligan for me too, I'm afraid. 🙁 Probably soon to drop out of the challenge (considering this is only the 5th month of 12), but at least I have some nicely painted minis to show for it.
  21. It's going to be another last ditch effort for me again this month. This time I chose a robot rather than a person so I can get away with basecoat + wash + drybrush. 🤓
  22. I think it looks more like a character for Through The Breach roleplaying game rather than a Malifaux miniature.
  23. That's one of the strengths of the Malifaux line of models. I don't think it's silly or sad at all. When I have enough Arcanist models, it'd be fun to run a 100% female miniature crew. I've seen all female crews come up for sale on eBay, too, though all in different factions than Arcanists so far. I especially like the female sculpt of the Union Steamfitter. Since most players seem only to use one Steamfitter at a time in their crews, you could probably pick up just the female sculpt from a private seller if you were lucky. 🙂 That's what I did for mine. Many forum users love to talk about Malifaux, so noobs are a constant supply of new opportunities to do it. Several forum users are going to enjoy typing responses to your questions, so it's a win/win. In the previous edition/sculpt of the miniatures, two Gunsmiths actually came in Kaeris' metal crew box, instead of the Firestarter & Eternal Flame that come in the current plastic edition. So if they're going to synergize with any Master, it stands to reason that they're likely to be Kaeris. Also, buying, painting and playing with the models you like the look of is a completely valid way to collect Malifaux. As you mentioned in a different reply, you are more interested in having fun games than necessarily playing with the best possible tournament-level lists. So what if Gunsmiths don't make it into the top tournament Arcanist crews? They look cool, and they're not completely useless, otherwise they would never have passed playtesting and been released as models. With the combo of Gunsmiths and Fire Gamin, maybe you'll be able to make crews that have quite a bit of ranged threat and damage output in their own right, with applying burning being a secondary benefit. Sometimes you can find Miss Fire for about $5 USD on eBay if you're lucky. Another way to do it will be to try to buy her online from Wyrd's own webstore on the so-called Black Friday online sale on 23 November later this year. (We don't know for sure what will be available, but many of the alternate sculpt models were temporarily available at the recent Easter sale). I don't want to dissuade you from looking at Carlos. But just from a purely practical point, his miniature is tricky to put together and then is fragile to transport. You'd be wise to have a very good foam or magnetic system for safely transporting your models to games before you assemble and paint Carlos. Maybe you already have a lot of assembling experience and some good ways to protect and transport your models from playing other systems of miniatures wargames previously? It doesn't have to be your first buy, but I would also suggest looking at Johan (or Johanna, if you can track down the alternate female sculpt and don't mind spending a little more). You pay an extra ss (soulstone) to hire him (or her) as a Mercenary in the Arcanist faction, and the cost has been errata'd up by 1 ss to what the card that comes in the box will say. He can remove conditions, has solid attack, and can heal himself and other M&SU models. Of those you've mentioned maybe buying, the M&SU models are Kaeris box: Kaeris, Eternal Flame, Firestarter. Ironsides box: Ironsides, Mouse, the Captain, Oxfordian Mages. Plus Gunsmiths, Willie/Miss Fire, and a whole bunch of the other models already mentioned in this topic by other users.
