2020 Monthly Painting Challenge - January
Scatterbrain replied to Caedrus's topic in Miniature Showcase
If this were a Jack Nicholson movie, this would be As Good As It Gets. 1x Shikome for 7ss. Painted to tournament legal standard as everything has a coat of paint or two, and there are (more than) 3 colours. Had some good luck with the GW/Citadel Contrast Paints. Need to buy some Micro Art Studio Cobblestone bases (in resin), just found an online retail supplier in Australia today with some in stock. -

Going to come down to the wire for me, this month - what an unexpected turn of events! -
Thanks for the helpful advice @Adran, @Ming & @Ogid. I currently have access to all Chimera options, but not many of the Versatile and OOK models mentioned. In my first attempt at Marcus into Reckoning, I think part of why it didn't go well for me was that it was a low soulstone game, so there weren't enough models to really get the synergies going. I am looking forward to trying Paul Crockett to give Sabertooth Cerberus, or another big beastie, additional attacks! I also took 2x Order Initiates. I found the Initiates useful in Turf War and Vendetta, particularly with the Feathered Wings mutation attached and using Call of the Wild. But they did nothing for me in Reckoning other than concede VP when they were squished. 😅 I couldn't even use them for Vendetta because of their ss cost compared to those of my opponents crew. Would've been much better off with 2x Sabertooth Cerberus!

@Viruk Without a doubt, the best-painted translucent Malifaux crew I have ever seen. You are the only artist I know who could have accomplished this! I hope I get to see some green translucent Kirai or Pandora crew boxes in the future, too! -
Caution and healthy scepticism are wise traits, in such matters. ;)

Assume Arcanist Marcus is your only Master available (because currently, that's my situation). What crew would you take with Marcus into Reckoning?

According to the Bell of Lost Souls article on 21 January by Mars Garrett, the Daeva do indeed belong to the newest faction, the Explorer's Society. So, too, the (presumed) Master, Lord Cooper, and the three other (Minion?) models pictured wearing animal skins, with the Apex keyword, in the previous Waldo's Weekly: Don't Think Twice, It's All Right. It is not yet clear whether the Daeva share a keyword with Lord Cooper and the Apex, or whether the Daeva are intended for yet another Explorer's Society master/keyword, as yet unannounced. My suspicion is the latter, given the aesthetics of the artwork, and the Zoroastrian etymology. No matter which keyword the Daeva use, this artwork is very cool! 👍

Henchman Hardcore and Replace (2019 M3E)
Scatterbrain replied to Scatterbrain's question in Malifaux Rules Discussion
Thanks, @Maniacal_cackle and @solkan! I stand corrected regarding the ability that was ignored on Effigy models, it is Helping Hand, and not the Effigy of Fate upgrade as I incorrectly remembered. -
Henchman Hardcore and Replace (2019 M3E)
Scatterbrain posted a question in Malifaux Rules Discussion
I recently read a document with the official M3E Henchman Hardcore format rules as played at GenCon 2019, but I am having trouble finding it again. 😳 In any case, the question I have wasn't explicitly answered in that document (to my understanding). It is very clear that in the HH format, models with Summoning abilities do not summon new, additional models during the game. For example, Minako Rei cannot Create Katashiro, and Mortimer cannot use the trigger on his Grave Robber action to summon a Mindless Zombie. Henchman Hardcore is about crews of exactly four models each facing-off, so models cannot use abilities that would increase the crew to five or greater, nor replace a destroyed model from the original four. What about models that do not Summon new, additional models, but rather transform into, or are replaced by, another model? Does an ability like Myranda's Beast Shape or Ferdinand Vogel/The Beast Within's Shapechange ability work in HH games? As one model is completely replaced with another, the actions/abilities don't increase the model count to greater than four, nor replace a destroyed model. The two models are also of roughly-equivalent power to each other. So my first thinking is that it should be legal. (Although, if I recall correctly, the HH rules specified that Effigy models may not take the Effigy of Fate upgrade in order to be replaced by the Emissary as of Turn 3. That seems to be a unique situation, because the Effigy doesn't inherently have that ability without the upgrade, and the Replaced model is of considerably higher power and SS cost.) Edit: I was mistaken here, as cleared-up below. Q: In conclusion, with the exception of an Effigy/Emissary, can models be Replaced by other models in HH games? -

Looks great to me! No need to be too tough on yourself, and I certainly think you made the right decision re: not going backwards. -

So the health condition I mentioned when dropping out from the 2019 challenge still isn't under control, and is likely to continue to be a setback well into 2020. 🙄 Regardless, it won't cost me anything more than the usual self-recriminations should I have to drop out again in 2020. Please sign me up at Minion level and we'll see if I can beat my personal best of 2 months. -

@Boomstick Great work! I especially like the purple tinsel on the tree and the glowing green effect on the Mecharachnids. It also appeals to my Arcanist bias. -
I think the fact that all three of these models are boxed together is great value for customers. 😊
-
@Caedrus Sadly, I have had to withdraw from the painting challenge. I had been hoping that the health things that I mentioned when I first signed up in January were going to be easy fixes. Unfortunately, they haven't been as yet. I will continue to look at the amazing work others are producing and congratulate everyone on their achievements instead. 🙂

Waldo's Weekly - We're Gonna Need a Bigger Bookshelf
Scatterbrain replied to Kyle's topic in Waldo's Weekly
You might be better off asking your local gaming store to order them in for you. Even with the retail mark-up, they might be able to do you a good deal on all of the books at once that would work out cheaper than paying initially less for them online, but then having to pay for international shipping. -
I'm enjoying all of these previews. 🙂
-
Shuriken! Great idea, Wyrd, I think these minis are going to be winners in terms of both sculpts and gameplay! 😄

¿Qué? 😅 I am pledging a metal, older sculpt of Ramos. 15ss. I paid a few dollars for it. If that sounds over-costed, I should point out that it was a pre-M3E purchase. 🙄 -

Yeah, I intend to use it as the Arcane Emissary when running a Raspy crew - all similarly based, naturally. Some of those Avatar minis had incredible sculpts, I think it'd be a real pity not to use them. -

@Caedrus Mobile Toolkit for 3 ss. I couldn't glue the wee bugger down as I only recently decided which fancy bases I want, and they haven't yet arrived. It's going on cobblestones, similar to those which @Viruk used with the orange coated Saboteurs. After he gives me a step-by-step of how to achieve the amazing multicolour effect, that is. -
