  1. Been a couple of years, and Malifaux took a backseat to some other hobbies during that time, but I've been getting back into it a lot lately. Finally got around to finishing those rooster riders, and even painted up my Bayou Engineering box.
  2. Mate, you really push those highlight to an excellent level. It's real nice to see such vibrant gremlins.
  3. I associate Mah with "I'm only joking, by the Kongos"
  4. I hit a hobby slump before xmas which seriously derailed this project. My lovely wife gave me a nudge and got me painting again and I am starting to get keen for this crew again. While I don't have pics yet, I have started assembling some gators. I have all the base layers done on the Rooster Riders (henceforth known as the chicken bros), and have been working to layer up the feathers first and have started some shading on the demin and Grem-skin.
  5. I wish I could say I'd finished my crew by now but I actually got more models for Xmas to add to the unpainted queue. I do however have an opening shot of my crew making their way out of their comfy swamp and out into the desert to ambush Reva. Mah Tucket didn't make it to the end of the match but my way of baiting enemy attention, and a couple of daring plays, I won 5 to 4 VP (with only two surviving gremlins left).
  6. My Rooster Riders finally arrived from Mighty Ape, and I've begun work on painting these crazy little grems. I took a little break while I was waiting on these reinforcements because I didn't want to burn out with only the limited crew options that I had, and have come back into the game with a game each during the last two Saturdays. Each time, the rooster riders have proven their worth as superb scheme runners and they've earned their way to the top of my paint queue.
  7. Wow, it's felt like a real long time since I started this project. I suppose that it's only been about a month, but it has felt longer. I am calling it done on this starter crew (I still need a couple more layers of water effects on the bases, but the models themselves are finished). My perfectionist personality keeps itching me to go in again and push certain highlights or shadows further, add more texture, etc. But I think that if I go down that path, I'll never really "finish" them, and I have other projects on my shelf that are crying for attention. Some of the WIP shots that I took along the way, and really should have posted sooner. A few front on shots I took to check the contrast. I do this by running them through an image editor and turning the colour to 0 in order to see if they still read well in greyscale. I should save those images more often. Trixibell doesn't hold up as well in greyscale as I didn't push the skin highlights/shadows as far as I did on Mah, or Lil Lass. Fear not, this isn't the end. I have some Rooster Riders on the way to fill out my tricksy crew, and as you can see in the background of a few of the images above, I also have some Tri Chi models that will be fun to paint as well.
  8. So a mate of mine made a good case for getting into Malifaux for the first time, with the new edition. My FLGS had some 2e boxes going cheap so I picked up the Bayou Bushwhackers and got to painting some redneck swamp gremlins. Still have to paint the rim of the base and add the water effects but I'm happy with the progress.
