The saliva effects are wicked! Same with the base work. Only thing I can think to add is that the eye is well painted, but it feels like it's missing depth somehow.

Lots going on here! Perhaps try and separate the mouth and the tongue color next time? The center kind of gets drown in red a bit.

The translucent effect is really nice! The overall composition is really stunning. It somehow feels a bit... chalky... I guess, around her abdomen, but that is a minor point.

amazing freehand and really clean work.

I love the flowers on the head. Agreed that the exposure could be brought down a bit to get all the details evened out. Still, the model looks great and I also like the weathering on the tombstone.

This is a really interesting take, and I like the addition of the "fuzz" on his neck and such. The color scheme is really interesting as well. Great work.

Those come with that model, brother

I love the colors, but the freehand on the umbrella and the kimono are what knock this out of the park. Simply amazing.

The water effects are amazing. The only thing I think to consider is that it's almost a bit too much blue.

I really like the color scheme and the detail work is immaculate. Beautiful model all around.
  11. Soooo… the size might be an issue, but I assume if I nab this from Sanjyusangendo that I can use it as a proxy???? Fujin/Raijin are my two favorite 神様 (deities) from Shinto. Really looking forward to these… and whoever their master might be with the Story keyword…. I assume Fujin might show up as well. Super stoked!
  12. That is still the best Lady J sculpt, in my opinion and I love the addition of the pinebox. Great work all around, and kudos on the productivity!
  13. @MoinetbeardI really like the color choice and the base work. For a one day job, that looks amazing. I've managed to earn back my mulligan from last month by adding in the Fae master, The Queen herself. Here is Titania for 15 more SS. I took one photo with the white background and one with the black... and personal preference leans me more toward the white background. I feel like you can see more of the details clearly. But that might also be my terrible cameramanship What do you think? PS - the base is part of my new 3d printing adventure. I am really happy with the results so far.
  14. As for me, I got my second Rougarou for Titania done. I was going for white wolf with this one and I was happy with how it came out. Pretty fun and easy job. PS - @Brushgit - I attempted to follow your photo advice. I think it worked if you have any advice on how to adjust it, please let me know.
  15. @Brushgit– I love finding all the subtle details in your work. Like the composition of the banjonista’s base, the placement and the use of the mud on her legs. It really tells a story. I really like the nmm on Olaf as well, and the subtle rust effect on the bottom of his mask. Also, as you yourself pointed out – the skin on lady J is wicked good. @DemiMurgos – Lots of excellent work, particularly for someone new to the hobby. The aversion came out smooth, but one thing I might suggest in the future – even if the scheme seems to give you a “two tone” feel, learning how to use contrast will really up your painting (PS – I am still not great at this). For example – this version of the aversions is similar to your approach, but they made at least one thing on the model a more vibrant color, which I think helps the details stand out (https://i.redd.it/8dbu71a9zfg51.jpg ) @Gheist– You painted far too much for me to comment on all of it! 😊 So, first, SLOW DOWN! Just kidding, keep on crushing it! I particularly like the Ikiriyo – the hair and the skirt are really cleanly done. @Moinetbeard The samurai is very clean, and I really like the blue you chose for that. The bamboo is a nice touch as well. I also really like the wearing effect on the archer’s helmet, as well as the color scheme of the snipers. All really great work. As for the moss – I have the benefit of living in Japan where the most popular hobby is collecting trains and making up huge train set dioramas. Thus, there are hobby shops all over the place here that sell really cool nature pieces for those train sets. That moss is one in a large collection of different types of moss and underbrush that they make. @TimH I really like that color transition on the Geryon. Well done. @Kogan Style– You definitely nailed the stone effect. Coupled with Winston’s pose, it feels like he’s saying, “What, so I brought along an enormous stone smasher to kill you? This is Malifaux!” @Hawkoon – I really love that grunge mixture of white/green/purple on the bloodwretches. The whole composition works really well, between the blood, the bases, and the overall grimy feel. Really excellent work.
  16. I need to go through tomorrow and comment all on the great work this month - but @Brushgit, I will concur that that is a stellar paint job. Truly amazing work. The blends in the skin are particularly nice. I'd also like a tutorial on how you take pictures I seriously suck at black backgrounds HEY - maybe that should be our next "masterclass" topic? Rambling aside, I got one of my two Zombie Wolf Dog Beasts done (aka: Rougarou) I was going for "Grey Wolf" and the upper bit came out a bit too light. I'm still happy with it though. It isn't perfect, but the one crazy green eye was fun.
  17. Tried to go with a "grey wolf" scheme here and the grey ended up too light. Live and learn
  18. I’m planning on getting some doggies done this month for my Titania crew, so it’s the whole Howling Box for me. I’ll also be throwing in a mystery model for the competition I think, so we’ll have to wait on that one. Goal is to double up this month and get my mulligan back from last month Just got a set of brushes from Artis Opus as well and I am itching to use them. Their brush boxes are lovely! I’m going to have to try not to get paint all over it

  20. Welcome to the May edition of the painting challenge. I personally got crushed by university work and other things this past month, but it's time to get back in gear! I look forward to seeing what everyone is painting up this month If you are new to the challenge and what to know the ins and outs - Everything you need to know for the Challenge is right HERE. For all our regular contributors, make sure you've submitted your SS counts for the previous two months in the Google Form. Remember, @Gheist and I are not going to enter them for you For our Masterclass topic: Building & Gap Filling Do you have any building tips? What glues do you use? Most importantly, what do you use to fill gaps? How do you go about it... especially with those wicked big gaps (looking at you Malisaurus). - Shock & Awe
