  1. Hey Wyrdos, After feeling bleu last week for blowing up a cheese factory, Waldo decided to go straight to the source: a cow farm. Once we hoofed it there, we took stock of the situation and Waldo grabbed the opportunity by the horns. That cow took Waldo up to the top of a hill (after all, the cream of the crop rises to the top), and rather than us seeing it as an udder problem, him disappearing into the horizon felt more like bovine intervention. Hopefully Waldo gets back before its pasture bedtime. So, while we milk those amoosing jokes dry, let’s take a look at another group of characters that will be coming to both The Other Side and Malifaux soon: the Yaksha! Troubled spirits who escape the clutches of a necromancer often wander the landscape in search of answers. They eke out a lonesome afterlife, subsisting on the tiniest slivers of aetheric energy to keep their minds and spectral bodies half-together. Ghosts like these become frustrated. Unable to interact with the living world, they listlessly journey to try and find some way of reclaiming their agency. The easiest bodies to inhabit are ones made from other living material: trees and foliage are excellent shells for ethereal spirits. Once bound to a body like this, a soul is referred to as a Yaksha. These beings are enigmatic; many forgo vengeance in favor of offering wordless assistance to the lost. Other Yaksha redouble efforts to seek retribution, using their arboreal bodies to lash out at any who do them harm. In The Other Side, Yaksha benefit greatly from terrain, deploying in the midfield and moving between terrain features while granting Hazardous (2) to any they touch. In Glory, Yaksha can move their target via the Draw In Trigger, helping make contact with as much terrain as possible. This creates new problems for opponents, as they must contend with unexpected movements and new sources of damage. It seems that these ethereal spirits have made their way to Malifaux, as well! But it seems that the Court of Two doesn’t seem to have the same control over them on this side of the Breach. Instead, a peculiar traveler has found her way to awaken these spirits simply by walking paths less traveled. Let’s take a look at what they can accomplish for the Explorer’s Society: Stay tuned for more Malifaux and The Other Side reveals!
  2. Hey Wyrdos, This week, after finding out that some employees at Wyrd are lactose intolerant, Waldo went shopping for cheese. Days later, we heard about an explosion at the cheese shop. Da brie was everywhere. After confronting Waldo about the incident, he said it was nacho problem. How dairy he. He should have had cheddar judgment. So, while we clean up the mess in gouda time, let’s take a look at an upcoming group of characters that will be heading to battle in both The Other Side and Malifaux later this year: the Hex Bows! Recruited from those who carry curses in their blood and bones, Hex Bows serve the Guild by weaponizing their misfortune. Witch Hunters instruct the archers on drawing power into their runic bows, launching missiles that land with devastating explosive strength. In the moment before impact, a Hex Bow’s curse afflicts their target. Damage is amplified tenfold in the face of bad luck, giving rise to rumors that even being near these archers has the potential to pollute one’s good fortune. In The Other Side, Hex Bows are a flexible fireteam that can select from Piercing, Accurate, or Area when firing their Runed Bows. Successfully resolving an Action also allows you to cripple enemies by giving them non-Tactics Tokens, like Pinned or Shaken. In Glory, the Hex Bows further increase their lethality and capabilities with new triggers. In Malifaux, rumors have spread regarding Hex Bows and their ability to permanently alter someone else’s Fate. The Guild does little to tamper such talk; reputation can be a useful weapon in battle. This leads to Hex Bows becoming isolated. They rarely find camaraderie outside their own battalions, but that’s started to change... Though Sonnia Criid is their savior, more Hex Bows are requesting deployment alongside a new company. They endure no stigma there, so long as their grenade arrows hit true. Where will you field the Hex Bows, on the Earth battlefields or in Malifaux? Let us know!
  3. Hey Wyrdos, Convention season is nearly upon us. Despite it feeling like we just got back from Columbus, Origins is just a few weeks away. And Gen Con is right around the corner! Are you planning on attending at either convention? Let’s take a look at all the Events for each show. Origins hasn’t yet made their Events public, but because it’s not far away (June 8th through June 12th), we thought we’d give you a head start by talking about the types of events that will be there. We’ll have Learn to Plays of all our games: Vagrantsong, Bayou Bash, Malifaux, and The Other Side. We’ll also have a Through the Breach Neverborn Character Creator Event, where you’ll take your monstrous creation to ransack a train in the Knotwoods! Make sure to bookmark the Origins Event page so you can be ready for when sign ups go live! As for Gen Con (which is August 4th through the 7th), well, they made their Event sign-ups live yesterday, and many of our Events are already filled. Let’s take a look at two events that still have some room available: Double Random Rush is a brand new Malifaux event that we’re trying out this year. Each round, you’ll randomly be given a teammate, a crew, and opponents in this special Double Rush event. No need to bring any crews or cards – everything will be provided for you. Whoever can win the most in this chaos will walk away the champion! Another exciting event is this year’s Titan Smash for The Other Side, and you don’t even need to bring a Titan! We’ll supply the big chonky models to play. All you have to do is sign up! For a full list of the events at Gen Con, head here. Are you attending Origins or Gen Con and want to volunteer? Use the form below to sign up! VOLUNTEER SIGN UP FORM! We’ll see you at Origins and Gen Con soon!
  4. In part two of Eat or Be Eaten, Marcus is summoned to a meeting with Titania, the Autumn Queen. Episode 146: http://www.breachsidebroadcast.com/e/tales-of-malifaux-146/
  5. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo signed up to run his very first marathon! Once we explained all the training that would be needed but would be good for him in the long run, he was really confused as to what we were talking about. Maybe we misunderstood what he meant when he said that he’s running the streets. So, while we recover from those running jokes, let’s take a look at the upcoming Bayou Bash expansion! In Bayou Bash: Hog Wild, players will get a bunch of new game modes to play, new Racers to run down the track, a few new terrain types to further customize your track, and more! Today, we’re going to take a look at two of the four new Racers in Hog Wild, the Toad Twins and the Whiskey Gamin. Thanks to the two Toad Twins strapped to her feet, this new Racer slips and skips along the track without having to worry much about Staggering. If you’re looking for a Racer that knows exactly where she’s going (despite having two toads leading the way), then look no further than the Toad Twins! The Whiskey Gamin looks out for his fellow Barrels on the track, and can weaponize them with a little bit of Gremlin ingenuity. This Racer has a mean streak, and can bend the path of Barrels to Ram into opponents with ease. If tossing stuff toward other Racers sounds like Barrels of fun to you, then join up with the Whiskey Gamin in the latest expansion! In addition to the new Racers (two of which have yet to be revealed!), Bayou Bash: Hog Wild will also include new Terrain to add to your track! When designing these two Terrain types, we aimed to create beneficial objects to interact with on the track that were crystal-clear and simple in how they worked while providing a ton of added strategy (and maybe just a dash of chaos) along the way. When you move onto a Swamp Spring, you’ll then move an additional space in any direction. These are a great way to get you out of a one-direction bind, or to save you from potentially falling off the track! With a little bit of luck and planning, these Swamp Springs can keep you charging forward instead of stopping too soon! When you move onto a Mysterious Mushroom, you’ll flip over the terrain to reveal a random reward. When the terrain token is flipped over, it stays flipped over, so Racers behind you can also move into that space to reap those rewards. Will you risk being the first to see what’s beneath these fun fungi or will you wait until others are a little more daring? There are 12 tokens for each type of terrain in Hog Wild, so you’ll be able to spread them out all over the track. Bayou Bash: Hog Wild is coming out later this summer! We’ll have more details once we get closer to release. The next time we cover Bayou Bash: Hog Wild, we’ll be showing off the last two Racers and the new game modes included in the expansion (yep, even an 8-player mode)! We’ll see you then!
  6. Hey Wyrdos, Have you hopped aboard the Silver Ferryman? Has the word Haint driven you mad? Have you said “please don’t draw an Apple” a hundred times yet? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, we have some exciting news! We are currently working on some new Vagrantsong content, and in order to make it as exciting as we can, we need your help! If you are a fan of Vagrantsong, have played at least half of the campaign, and are willing to take new content through the ringer by providing feedback on broken Scenario bits, then we want you! Specifically, we are currently looking for playtesters to check out a super challenging puzzle Scenario. If that sounds like it’s up your alley, then use the form below to sign up! Here’s what you’ll need: A strong understanding of how to play Vagrantsong Tabletop Simulator on Steam (it’s a lot easier for us to update than to ask you to print files multiple times) A willingness to provide us with feedback and reports based on the sessions you played If you help us out by playing the Scenario and reporting back your experiences, you will get a physical copy of this content! This Scenario will include new cards and a new Haint standee! Are you interested in hopping aboard? Use the form below to let us know! CLICK ME TO FILL OUT THE FORM!
  7. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo came into the office wearing waders, a wide-brimmed hat, a cargo jacket, sunglasses, and a fishing vest. When we asked where he was planning on fishing today, he said “he wouldn’t be cod dead doing that.” Apparently, he just likes the look. So, while we ignore that a-trout-cious joke, let’s reveal another upcoming minion. This time, we’re headed just past the southern edges of the Bayou to where the swamp meets the ocean. In order to properly hunt a beast, you must first understand it. You must become it. While we don’t know who told these Gremlin cousins that advice, it’s easy to tell that the Skulker Skins took it to heart. The mortality rate, thanks to drowning in the ocean while imitating a Striped Skulker, is through the roof. We can thank authenticity, idiocy, and alcohol for that, though the order of import is up for debate. Those who manage to survive in the wilds while living beneath the skin of these Gibbering Hordes have gained a certain notoriety amongst their peers. They are stealthy trackers who tend to bring home the most bacon. Yes, they make Skulker bacon, and yes, it sounds exactly as good as it tastes – horrible. On the table, these Skulker Skins use the elements around them to patiently wait it out before they strike. Let’s take a look at what their stat card might look like (as it’s still a work in progress!): We’re just getting started with revealing the latest and greatest upcoming Malifaux content. Stay tuned!
  8. Hey Wyrdos, This week, we found Waldo with a handful of coins poking around in the bushes during a thunderstorm. The smoldering smoke radiating from his back was enough for us to try to get him inside, but when we attempted to get an explanation as to what the heck he was doing, he said he was just trying to find change in the weather. So, while Waldo mops up the floor with that bad joke, let’s announce the next Spring Painting Contest: Flowers and Showers 2022! Submitted models will need to meet at least one of the following criteria: Incorporate RAIN into the model. This can include water drips, wet clothing, puddles, or just about any other way you can include rain into the piece. Incorporate FLOWERS into the model. FlowerS, as in plural, and they should be used in a way that flows well with the model and theme. There are 3 Categories this time around: Single Model Diorama Over Achiever (a special category for professional painters, more info can be found below) We’re also making some fairly significant rules adjustments this time around to make it fairer and more fun for everybody participating. Each participant will only be able to submit one entry. This means that each participant may only enter one category total. We’re also adding a new contest category, called “Over Achiever.” This category is for those who paint at a professional (or semi-professional) level that will provide those participants with an extra challenge. Over Achiever entries may be a Single or a Diorama (and we reserve the right to move an entry into a category we deem more fitting). Flowers and Showers 2022 will run from TODAY to midnight EST on May 25th, 2022. For a full breakdown of this year’s Flowers and Showers Painting Contest, head over to the forum post! Good luck!
  9. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo grew tired of all his old hobbies (setting stuff aflame, watching things burn, dancing in ashes, etc.) and decided to try something new for a change: knitting. Or, at least that’s what he told the police after they caught him weaving on the road. So, while we make sure Waldo never knits-and-drives again, let’s take a look at what kinds of storms have been brewing up in the design room! Not everyone gets to utilize their nightmares or step backwards in time immediately when they journey through the Breach. Sometimes you’ve got to dabble until you’ve figured out what sort of special gifts the Breach has given you (if anything). Which is why we’re taking a look at an upcoming Minion that will be coming out in the next Malifaux expansion: the Dabbler! Don’t look so glum, Dabbler! There’s no reason to have a black cloud hang over your head. There are plenty of opportunities to learn and specialize in magic. As long as you don’t get eaten by silurids, cannibals, oni, piglets, the cursed undead, or creatures made of darkness… You know, maybe it’s best to stay inside while you learn the basics. Just make sure not to burn the place down in the process. That’s it from us this week. We’ll have plenty of new Malifaux reveals in the coming months! And don’t forget! Today is the LAST DAY of the Easter Extravaganza 2022 Event! Head to our webstore NOW to grab those alt models you’ve got in your cart before it’s too late!
  10. Both links should be fixed now. Thanks for pointing it out.
  11. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo picked up gardening. At least that’s what we hope he was doing. He dug up all the bushes outside our office and filled the holes with water. At least he meant well. On the bright side, there’s mushroom for improvement now. So, while we herb our enthusiasm for more planty puns, let’s take a look at a brand new Malifaux Story Encounter, which can be downloaded and played right now (see below)! If you’re unfamiliar with Story Encounters, they are a way to step out of the competitive space and have fun in Malifaux in new and lighthearted ways. And this Encounter is no exception! In Voracious Vegetation, one player will play as a group of Botanists trying to protect their garden, while the other player will try to control a horde of Mindless Zombies trying to destroy every plant in their path. You can download the PDF here, and a printer-friendly version here. But that’s not all we are here to announce… That’s right! Our Easter Extravaganza Event 2022 is now live! Head over to our webstore NOW to put all those limited models you’ve been pining over in your cart before they disappear! You’ve got until April 20th (or until supplies last!) for this year’s Easter Event!
  12. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo broke the previous record for “most eggs found” during our annual office egg hunt competition. After we showed him the difference in the plastic ones we hid around the place and the normal bird-hatching variety he supposedly found, he claimed that they both taste the same. Eventually, he admitted to going to the grocery store and buying a carton, but only because he was hungry. So, while we clean the egg off his face, let’s take a look at our upcoming annual Easter Extravaganza Event, which starts on April 13th and ends on April 20th! If you’re unfamiliar with our annual Easter Events, this is a time when we open up our super-secret vaults and allow our Nightmare and alt models a little bit of time in the sun, making them temporarily available to purchase on our webstore. Didn’t get a chance to reel in the Nightmare Nekima box, Deepest Depths? Have you gone back and forth on the Curiosity Killed the Cat Hamelin Nightmare box, and have decided to become a crazy cat lady yourself? Looking to fill out your zombie pirates crew with a Salty Seadevil? Well, your chance is coming up next week! But it’s not just Nightmare boxes and previous alt models. You’ll also find some classic and hard-to-find Malifaux stuff that you’ll be able to put in your cart this year! In case you missed our April LGS promotion announcement, our Easter Angelica will also be available! You can get your hands on this lovely pre-assembled model at this Easter Extravaganza Event in one of two ways: At your local game store through the LGS promotion during all of April For free during the Easter Event, after spending $100 At $200 spent, you’ll receive a Limited model of your choice (as supplies last). And at $300 (and above) spent, you’ll receive a free limited Alt Hannah. Here’s the breakdown: For a full list of everything that will be available, head to our webstore when the Easter Extravaganza Event begins! We’ll see you next week!
  13. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo’s been a little more sluggish than normal. When we asked him what was wrong, he said that he’ll never have a stomach cake again. So, while we wish we could erase that visual from our minds forever, let’s take a look back and this past weekend to see all the fun we had at Adepticon! It’s been too long since we’ve been flipping cards (and tables) in the Chicago area, so it felt incredible to be back in the area and celebrate all things miniature wargaming with our incredible community. And it seems like you were all hungry for competition, because things really heated up this time around! Make sure to check out the news post on the Wyrd website for a gallery of the events and tables! During Henchman Hardcore, Andre D. from Texas walked away with a win with a Kiya-led Explorer’s Society crew. Luke E. from Nebraska came in 2nd with Thoon leading the way for his Neverborn. And Bryan B. from Texas brought his Outcasts and Montressor to come in 3rd. For the big tournament, Landon S. represented the Illinois community and the Ten Thunders with the title versions of Yan Lo and Lynch throughout. David L. followed closely behind in 2nd place, thanks to Arcanists and the title versions of Mei Feng and Hoffman. And, finally, Andre. D made Texas proud again with the title version of McCabe and the Ten Thunders throughout the entire event. Congratulations to all the winners and participants during all our events! A special thank you goes out to Brandon L. for running our events in spectacular fashion, Sean O. for providing us with beautiful terrain, and all of our volunteers for helping introduce newcomers to our games! For more details on the events, keep an eye out for Brandon’s post on A Wyrd Place soon! Now that we’re home after back-to-back conventions, it’s time for us to take a short nap before we get back into the swing of things. We’ll see you next week!
  14. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo wouldn’t stop talking about wanting to go on a vacation, and didn’t care where he ended up. He scattered a bunch of maps in the office, tossed out some random pins… and off he went. After he was long gone, we took a closer look at those maps and realized that none of them were of Earth, let alone the states. If we knew he wanted to go to Mars, we could have helped planet! While we hope he packed his asteroid belt, let’s look at some exotic locales your Fated will have a chance to visit soon! As you may have noticed, we have some new Through the Breach releases on the way. Our newest Penny Dreadful, Return to Innocence, is a concluding adventure to the events that happened during In Defense of Innocence, our very first Penny Dreadful! For those who haven’t played In Defense of Innocence yet – don’t worry! This Penny Dreadful was written in a way where new players can dive right in without needing to know the details of the previous book. Though, for those who are returning, there will be plenty worth revisiting! As the southernmost contract town in Malifaux, Innocence has grown quite a bit since we first visited it all those years ago. What are old friends getting up to, and what new plots are lurking in dark corners? We’re excited for you to discover that for yourselves this April, when Return to Innocence arrives on local game store shelves. A digital version of the Penny Dreadful will be available shortly thereafter. Once you’re done coming back from your vacation at Innocence, we’ve got more Through the Breach destinations coming your way! In June, pack your bags and set off to six of Malifaux’s strangest places in our very first Fully Loaded collection: The Voyage Volume! Our Through the Breach: Fully Loaded series of books will include sets of One Shots adventures, previously only available on DriveThruRPG. This collection features these six One Shots, which is the first time any of these adventures have been physically printed: Badlands Invitational: In a motorcar race across the barren landscapes of the Badlands, the Fated are tasked with ensuring one racer’s safety! The House That December Built: In a mansion deep in the Quarantine Zone, the Fated will discover a curse that has an icy grip on the family that once resided here. The Dead Tide: After a sudden storm, the Fated find themselves aboard an abandoned, ancient ship… or so they first believe. Voyage to the Moon: Tasked by a curious member of the Explorer’s Society, the Fated are strapped in a strange craft and are jettisoned to the moon! Into the Logic Engine: In a flash of neon light, the Fated are brought into a construct’s kaleidoscopic realm they’ve never witnessed before. A Night in Hallow: While celebrating Carving Day, the Fated stumble upon a contract town embracing the festivities, but not is all as it seems. There’s never been a better time to dive into Through the Breach than right now! So, that’s what we are releasing soon for our Fated and Fatemasters, but what are we working on? Well, the best way to find out is to help us playtest the latest and greatest content! And right now, we’re cooking up a doozy: the Ten Thunders expansion! New Pursuits, enemies to face, magia to experiment with, and much, much more! Interested in helping us playtest new Through the Breach content? We’ve got a lot of great things in store beyond the Ten Thunders expansion, such as Augments and One Shots! Help us shape TTB’s Fate by being the first to play the latest content, and be a part of shaping what’s to come! To apply, just FILL OUT THIS FORM. There’s a few short questions; if you’re accepted, you’ll receive an email within a few weeks with access to our Super Secret Playtesting Forums. That’s all for this week, Wyrdos! We’re excited about what’s coming next for Through the Breach, and can’t wait to hear about your Fated’s adventures in Malifaux!
  15. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo bought a onesie… of himself. How or where he found a company to manually sew up a design of himself is beyond us, but here we are, staring at a Waldo in a Waldo. At least he looks comfortable. So, while we have ourselves a collective identity crisis, let’s take a look at an upcoming fireteam for The Other Side’s Kimon! From an oni’s perspective, it is alarmingly easy to manipulate mankind. They want such meager, simple things. In exchange for knowledge, guidance, and power, some are even willing to share their bodies with an oni from the Beyond. These Possessed enjoy their newfound talents, but are unknowingly providing the oni with the opportunity to slowly consume them. Over time, the oni’s thoughts and influence chew away at their host’s mind until nothing but the human’s physical appearance remains. This provides the oni with a perfect disguise and creates a growing concern for mankind on earth: nowhere is safe from the Kimon. On the table, the Possessed will help create some breathing room for your forces by generating resources while also removing some of your opponent’s. Flipping back and forth from Glory is a great way to draw some much-needed cards. And while in Glory, the Possessed can prevent enemy fireteams from declaring Triggers in duels targeting them. We’ll have more information on the Kimon as we get closer to their release!
  16. Yes, you can move a Fan off the track with Not Enuff Mojo, but there's a pretty good chance that an opponent will do the same thing to your Fans when they see that happen. More often than not, we've seen players reposition their Fans with this Event so that they are behind Racers (increasing the odds of them being counted toward winning the game).

    FAQ

If you ran into a rules quandary when playing Vagrantsong, check out the FAQ! https://www.wyrd-games.net/vagrantsong-faq If your question isn't answered there, feel free to make a post in the Vagrantsong forum, the Play Wyrd Discord, or the Vagrantsong BoardGameGeek page.
  18. Hey Wyrdos, Over the last few weeks, we’ve been soaking in all the amazing reviews, comments, and pictures from everyone who has hopped aboard the Silver Ferryman up to this point. We can’t express how excited we are to know that players are being haunted by Haints across the globe (and having fun, of course). As with any new game release, there have been a few questions that have popped up about Vagrantsong. Well, we’ve taken some time to answer those questions (and more) with a Vagrantsong FAQ, which is live right now (and you can find it on the Vagrantsong page in the Resources section). Consider this Frequently Asked Questions page a living document of sorts. We’ll be adding more questions and answers to the page as they trickle in. If your question isn’t answered on the FAQ, there’s a chance it might have already been answered on the Vagrantsong BoardGameGeek site or on our forums. If you can’t find your question, feel free to ask on the PlayWyrd Discord, the Wyrd forums, or the Vagrantsong BoardGameGeek page. There’s a chance we’ll add your question to the FAQ! Thanks, and happy haunting!
  19. Reach out to Wyrd Hobby (link in the original post) and we'll take a look!
  20. Hey Wyrdos, Adepticon is only a month away, and we can’t wait to see both new and familiar faces once again! If you’re not familiar with the convention, Adepticon is a celebration of all things wargaming. From March 23rd to the 27th, players from all over will gather in Schaumburg, Illinois to test their mettle in all sorts of tournaments and events. Are you heading to Adepticon this year? If you are, consider volunteering for Wyrd! We wouldn’t be able to go to these conventions without the help of our amazing community, and there are still several shifts available across the weekend. We are especially looking for a tournament organizer for the convention; someone who is able to help us the entire weekend with making sure our tournaments go smoothly. If you are interested in being our TO, reach out to WyrdHobby on the forums and we’ll get you sorted. Here are some of the events that we’ve got in store for Adepticon: 2-Day Malifaux Tournament Henchman Hardcore Tournament If you’d like to help us out (and get cool stuff!), fill out this form. Masks are required, as well as proof of vaccination. We’ll see you there!
  21. In part one of The Bold & Desperate, a mysterious couple takes an interest in a group of down-on-their-luck musicians at the Crossroads Inn. Episode 143: http://www.breachsidebroadcast.com/e/tales-of-malifaux-143/
  22. Hey Wyrdos, This week, we caught Waldo drawing fake mustaches with a permanent marker on every model, poster, and picture in the office. Even on characters with mustaches. So, while we undo his handiwork, let’s make some adjustments of our own. It’s time for the February 2022 Malifaux Errata. Our focus with the latest errata was to bring some models that weren’t seeing play up to more competitive standards, while simultaneously adjusting some characters that created negative play experiences. What Got Adjusted? While we won’t go into every adjustment in this news post, let’s cover some highlights: Molemen gained two new Abilities, Through the Mountain and Rough Ground, as well as a Dig Deep Bonus Action. Swine-Cursed are no longer cowards, as they’ve gained a “I’m no Coward” Trigger (and now have the Pig keyword), amongst other adjustments. The Alpinist’s Climbing Gear now works as intended. Thalarian Quellers got a pretty big overhaul so that they’re more useful in a Sonnia-led crew. Nexus, English Ivan, and Insanitary McMourning were all brought down a little bit. And lots more. You can find the complete February 2022 Errata and FAQ Documents below, which includes a full breakdown of all the stat card adjustments we made this time around. Where Can I Get It? The latest stat cards adjustments are available on WarGameVault for print-on-demand, and are on our Dropbox for free download. The Malifaux Crew Builder app will be updated very shortly (as in the next few days) with all of the stat card adjustments. As always, you’ll be able to find all of the updated content on the Malifaux Resources page. Why Wasn’t [INSERT CHARACTER HERE] Adjusted? This is a question that gets brought up every time we do an errata, and there’s no easy or immediate answer. To keep it short and simple: there are numerous reasons. Time: it takes time to make the right adjustments, and to playtest those changes. Months of time. The more time we put toward an errata, the less time we have to create new and exciting things. A Chisel, Not a Hammer: We don’t want to make huge sweeping changes to the game. It would get overwhelming quickly if we adjusted everything on our radar. Instead, we try to create a priority list of problematic characters (whether they’re underutilized or otherwise) and go from there. Indirect Adjustments: There’s a chance that the character or wording of an Action/Ability was adjusted via a clarification on the FAQ or an adjustment to the Core Game Rules, so make sure to take a look there. If a character was not adjusted this time around, it doesn’t mean that we’ve ignored it. More than likely, that character is still on our list and may find its way onto the next errata. This is especially the case with Title Masters. While we adjusted one this time because of it being increasingly problematic, we are still waiting for the dust to settle on others before we make any additional refinements. Where’s Gaining Grounds? It’s still a work in progress. We don’t currently have an ETA on when the latest Gaining Grounds Season will arrive, but rest assured that we are working on it, and will release the next batch of Strategies and Schemes when we feel they’re fully baked. This week, we’ve got another announcement to make! The voting polls for the Bloody Valentine Painting Contest are now live! With each contest, we are always blown away by the creativity and effort put into the entries, and this contest is no different. There are so many great submissions this time around! Head over to the forums to vote for the best and bloodiest entries, in both the Singles and Diorama categories. That’s it from us this week.
  23. Hey Wyrdos, This week, we found Waldo tearing up all of the calendars in the office. Turns out that he thought if he made a collage of the dates in the order of his choosing, he could put Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, and his birthday all in the same week. So, while we try to figure out what day it is, let’s look at a fun update to the Malifaux Crew Builder! Ever since we started putting out special ways to play Malifaux, we’ve received requests to put those on the Malifaux Crew Builder App. We’ve also had a ton of requests for the ability to mix and match Strats and Schemes from various Gaining Grounds. Well, today, we have some good news. With the help of DZ, not only are we adding the holiday and special Strategies and Schemes to the Malifaux Crew Builder (just in time for Valentine’s Day!), but we are also including a way to combine those with both existing and previous Gaining Grounds. Let’s take a look at some of the Strategies and Schemes that you’ll be able to play right from the app: ------ Train Heist - Strategy After Deployment Zones are chosen, starting with the Defending Player, each player alternates Creating Strategy (Train) Markers on the Centerline, with at least 2” of space in between each Marker until there are a total of five Strategy (Train) Markers in play. Then, place two Stolen Goods Tokens on each Strategy (Train) Marker. Strategy (Train) Markers are 50mm Ht 4, Blocking, Climbable, and may hold Stolen Goods Tokens. While in base contact with any Strategy Marker, friendly-controlled models may take the Interact Action to take a Stolen Goods Token from that Strategy Marker. A model can only have one Stolen Goods Token at a time. While a model has any Stolen Goods Tokens it is treated as having the Staggered Condition. If a model with a Stolen Goods Token is killed, it must Drop a Strategy (Loot) Marker in base contact with itself. Strategy (Loot) Markers are 30mm Markers with a single Stolen Goods Token on them, if the token is removed the Marker is also removed. During the End Phase of each Turn after the first, a player gains 1 VP if they have more models with Stolen Goods Tokens on the opposing player’s table half than the amount of VP it has earned from this Encounter. ------ Trick or Treat - Strategy Special: Set aside a variety bag of candy (with at least four different kinds of candy); it will be used for this Strategy. Before Deployment, Create a neutral Strategy Marker on the Centerpoint and two neutral Strategy Markers, each on the Centerline, centered halfway between the Centerpoint and each end of the Centerline. Strategy Markers are Ht 5, Blocking, and Impassable. Each different Strategy Marker should be designated a different type of Candy Token (we recommend different types of candy). Additionally, there should be a fourth type of Candy Token designated for Master and Henchman models. Friendly-controlled models in base contact with a Strategy Marker or enemy Master or Henchman, ignoring that enemy model’s engagement range, may take the Interact Action to flip a card (which cannot be cheated) and resolve the following effect based on the card’s suit: or - Trick: The model taking the Interact Action gains Distracted +1. , , or Joker - Treat: The model taking the Interact Action gains that object’s designated Candy Token. At the end of each Turn, a Crew may discard (eat) any number of Candy Tokens from any friendly models in play. Then that Crew gains 1 VP if it discarded (ate) more types of Candy Tokens than VP gained from this Strategy. ------ Bah Humbug – Strategy Create four Strategy Markers on the Centerline, two centered 4" from the Centerpoint and two centered 12" from the Centerpoint. Then determine an associated Strategy Marker for each of the four suits. Strategy Markers are 50mm Ht 3, Blocking, and Impassable. After Deployment, the Attacking player places the Mistletoken, following rules for moving it (below). The Mistletoken is moved after one or more of the following events happen: A model kills an enemy model within 2 of a Strategy Marker with the Mistletoken. A model within 2 of a Strategy Marker with the Mistletoken kills an enemy model. A friendly-controlled model in base contact with a Strategy Marker with the Mistletoken takes the Interact Action to move the Mistletoken. When the Mistletoken is moved, the player moving it discards the top card of their Fate deck and moves the Mistletoken from its current Strategy Marker to the Strategy Marker associated with that card's suit. Any suit may be chosen for either Joker. At the end of each Turn, each player may choose a Strategy Marker they have not already chosen this game. If the player moved the Mistletoken off that Strategy Marker this Turn, the player's Crew gains 1 VP. ------ Gift Exchange – Strategy This Encounter uses 5 Gift Tokens, which (secretly) have a different value between 1 and 5. Players may not look at the value of Gift Tokens unless specified to do so. After Deployment, Create a Strategy Marker on the Centerpoint of the table and place all 5 Gift Tokens on it. Strategy Markers are 50mm Ht 3, Blocking, and Impassable, and may hold Gift Tokens. After a model with a Gift Token is killed or suffers Severe damage, any Gift Tokens it has are placed on the Strategy Marker. Friendly-controlled models without a Gift Token within a1 of the Strategy Marker may take the Interact Action to remove a random Gift Token on the Marker and add it to themselves, and then the opposing player may place the Strategy Marker anywhere within 4" of its current position. At the end of a model’s Activation, its controller may look at any Gift Token gained by this Interact Action. Friendly-controlled models within a1 of an enemy model with a Gift Token may take the Interact Action (ignoring the enemy model’s engagement range) to take a random one of the enemy model’s Gift Tokens. Until the End Phase, the enemy model may not take this Action to take a Token from the Interacting model. At the end of each Turn, each Crew may choose up to two friendly models to reveal the value of a Gift Token on each model. A Crew gains 1 VP if its total value of the revealed tokens is at least 2 more than the VP gained from this Strategy. ------ Lover’s Dilemma - Scheme At the beginning of the game, secretly choose a friendly non-Leader model and an enemy non-Leader model with Cost within 1 Soulstone of each other. REVEAL During the End Phase, if the two chosen models are engaged with each other and no other models, you may reveal this Scheme to gain 1 VP. END At the end of the game, if both chosen models were killed by a model other than each other, gain 1 VP. ------ With the latest app update, you’ll be able to add these Strats and Schemes into a huge pool of options spanning across all of the Gaining Grounds thus far. All you need to do is choose create a New Game, choose All for the ruleset, and mix and match to your heart’s content. This update will be going live very soon on both Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store. If not today, then very likely tomorrow or Friday! What pools will you be creating with this mix-and-match setup? Let us know! That’s it from us this week!
