  1. I used him in my last game with lady j versus ressers and he actually performed pretty great.

It was flank deployment and the lone marshal move up on one flank and shot into the middle, while contesting an entire quarter for potential claim jump. He can just push shoot and then push into engagement with a scheme runner or close to a marker. That makes his 2ap very efficient. I also wouldn't count its shot, sh6 2/3/5 with focus isn't bad, but indeed, if moderate would be 4 it would be a lot nastier, nevertheless you have + on attack and crit strike, so when you're hitting crit for 3/4/6 that's a nice shot, unreliable but it will come up or at least make the enemy cheat more if you flip a mediocre ram. My last game he was able to hit something every turn, and he pinged 3 damage on mcmourning, 5 on a nurse with a severe, and 2 on a guild autopsy, then I needed him for scoring vp.

I agree that there is a lot of competition from other models, but i think to really apreciate him you need to take his mobility into account.

And again, even if he was better, he's priced pretty high, I bought him cause i absolutely love the model as well as the guild marshal theme so I'm a bit biased here. I think that guild has better options for his cost, what he brings to the table though is his mobility, I really like the mechanic of still contributing with your 12" shot and remaining mobile to engage stuff or deny scheme markers. You can push out of engagement anyways next turn.

I simply google a shit ton of pics, looking for Inspiration in other painted Minis or Artworks for color scemes, while using a few connecting Elements (for example every Guild Model got a red piece of clothing somewhere; my Neverborn often have a hue of turquoise and so on)

    +1

For my lady justice crew, I work in red in every miniature somewhere, there are a lot of browns and greys in their clothing but then I use a turquoise/blue for the flame and i try and use this as an accent color. This ties the crew together but I still have a lot of freedom in color schemes. Especially for malifaux I like to work some bright colors into at least most models.

Another example is this seishin. I looked up a lot of pictures of dragons. I then think about my entire crew going forward, I want to use a sort of ghostly green/blue color throughout my spirit models, this jade green is quite a strong color so I then think with what colors can I combine this to get a nice contrast but no clashing colors. An obvious combo is the bronze and jade, and I then made some contrast between the bronze and dark browns. That is basically the thought process.

In some particular case though some elements of a model just give me an idea and I then alter the paint scheme around that. For example when I saw the artwork of the will o' wisps I immediately thought monarch butterfly wings, which has oranges and browns, I paint my neverborn crews with very natural colors browns and greens and some bright lime green as an accent, and this fits perfectly as well.

And to conclude, an example of how using an accent color can give an otherwise bland paint scheme (trees are usually brownish, greyish, greenish) that little extra.

And I believe the most important tips are to look at a lot of pictures and other miniatures to get inspiration and then just try things out and improve your skills.

  3. After reading the wording again I agree that they do not use the wording after.

I mentioned this because I play Titania and she can easily reduce damage to 0 and therefore prevent 'after damaging' triggers. But the same wording is not used here so I overlooked that.

  4. I feel like the scheme pool is more important than what you bring to support him.

But indeed, models that can make him take extra attacks can be extremely efficient if he is able to finish off a model that way. Also models that can give him an extra push can be really nice as he then gets an insane threat range.

In scheme pools where the opponent will be dropping lots of markers you can potentially force him to pick suboptimal schemes or at least be wary of where they drop scheme markers.

That, I think, is already very valuable.

You can also hunt smaller enemies so you heal regularly and any ability to give out of activation attacks can let you heal, for example: Lucius,  Abuela, Perdita, Hoffman (cyborg) and Judge with unrelenting leader.

    Also the death marshal recruiter.

  6. I was able to finish datsue bah, It is the first time I've tried to do OSL. I'm really happy with the effect on the face, though I'm not entirely happy with the robes.

Oh well, I'll leave it at this for the moment but I might revisit her later on. I also assembled the Jury. I have an upcoming game with lady justice next week so I'll field her for the first time. I'm not sure if I will be able to finish her though.

And finally, for the same reason I'm working on my brutal effigy. It is still WIP, mainly the cloak shoes and hat still need to be painted.

  7. @whodares knows him a lot better than me and he is also writing the guide on TT lynch. So it will be a good idea to check that out as well.

I know lynch from playing against him. I find that two things are really good with lynch, models that can set lynch up to attack, saving lynchs ap to blow stuff to oblivion, aka emissary and yu. I as an opponent am more afraid from the emissary than yu, the emissary can get a double focus and with a severe of 6 (I believe) which is reasonably easy to get, so he can put a lot more hurt on your models. So after supporting your crew he can switch gears easily and provide some offense.

Secondly, models that can abuse the ace discard shine with lynch. Enter 10t brother, these things are extremely annoying to remove and depending on the aces you have in hand can choose what effect they get from their zero action. Except for like burrying them in a pine box or attacks that bypass their main defenses these things can be quite the ap sink. I would almost always consider bringing 2 in scheme marker heavy scheme pools or at least one when you need to hold a certain area.

The illuminated and huggy that come in the box are already very usefull (essential in huggy's case) so it looks like your set to start playing him already and get to know him.

Consider yasunori if you're going to play 10 thunders, he's a real pain because of his combination of speed and damage output. His synergy with lynch is that you have multiple threats that you can not ignore (huggy, lynch, yasunori, even illuminated can hit very hard) so even if the opponent goes hard after lynch or paralyses him or whatever, Lynchs crew still has some major threats.

also adding in some kind of lure effect in addition to titania can help with this. so thinking lilitu would perform well with that.

Yes, I agree, that adding a lure to the pushes already available and the threat of rougarou is a strong option.

Though I really love the aesthetic of crew box and I am always in favor of running crews at least mainly thematic, so I'm afraid I'd struggle to fit in lilitu.

I'm also a sucker for the mysterious emissary, so I basically make 40ss lists :)

  9. Hi guys,

Last weekend I've had my first tournament experience and I played neverborn, 2 games of titania, 1 game of zoraida.

It was a really fun experience and surprisingly I was able to go 1/1/1.

1st game was guard the stash with leave your mark, recover evidence, dig their graves and something else i don't remember right now.

    I played:

    titania

    -royal indignation

    - audience with the queen

    - behold my glory

    primordial magic

    mysterious emissary

    cyclops

    rougarou

    tooth

    doppleganger

    will o' wisp

I'm sure I can improve on this crew, though I like how it plays and playing a crew repeatedly helps in improving and knowing where the crew weaknesses lies and what i can change up.

Fortunately a friend of my mine won an alternate barbaros that tournament that i can borrow. How do you guys play barbaros with titania in what kind of crews and schemes/strats?

There is another local tournament in februari, so I might also get a grootslang cause I like the models, any ideas how it fits in with titania?

Thanks in advance for the feedback. Joachim.

    There is also flurry...

When all the rest fails :)

If it would be on df then there is still use in hitting low defense models, especially incorporeal ones, but since it is on wp that makes it a lot less reliable.

But you never now, in a corner case scenario, that would also drop a scheme marker.

  11. Yeah, a titania crew can make you deal with a lot of other stuff. So they're not always as squishy as they seem.

What I also like is that if he just follows titania around, then that makes her wicked silence drop 2 markers, and her wp check or 2 damage also drop a marker. That can really up titanias damage potential.

You can also keep one around tooth/rougarou. Once you pull something in they're engaged with tooth, and later rougarou can do his wp (0), so that's 2 wp duel which drop additional markers, I know, tooth will already drop some, but there are so many uses out of scheme markers that I never feel like I have too much :).

These effect might seem minor, or situational, and they are, but we're talking about a 3ss minion after all. Insignificant is annoying, but you just need to take that into account. Need to interact a lot, take other stuff that can do it, if you just need a non-peon then these guys can count for the strat.

I like to have one around in my titania crews for a cheap activation and I also like the emissary, which can now reliably summon changelings with titania, which then become my cheap significant models.

I'm still experimenting with the wisps in titania. I think the scheme marker drop is more of a bonus and their strongest use is the wisps call? But I love the models and I'm going to try and us them more with titania.

  12. Don't know if anyone mentioned this allready, but don't forget that zoraida can now obey models to charge, which is pretty strong.

Also you can run the widow weaver and recycle voodoo doll and teddy scrap into more teddys.

I'm not saying this list is better than dreamer with teddy, but as you mentioned you're not necessarily going for the most competitive list.

On topic, I don't think the Wisps are really worth it with Titania unless you're also taking something for them to use their Ever Changing Form (the 2Ap stealing Action).

I disagree, I actually think that the wisp is a solid model for its cost, even without the copy action. I mean it is just 3ss.

Because a gorar that does nothing for a couple turns and then dies to 1-2 attacks is less useful than a PM sitting back giving you cards and being used as a scheme marker at some point in the game. The Gorar is situational useful and really depends on the board. Especially considering if it was just chaff that was killing your Gorar, you'd have really wanted those attacks on a knight because then Titania could just heal it up.

Don't forget that the emissary can heal gorar now with the new conflux, or even give it armor. Ok, thats maybe not the best use of this (0) action. But again, it depends on what it is protecting, and df6 can still hold up to some chaff. Off course if the gorar just stands in the open and the opponent can just take pot shots at it, that sucks, but I have played him where there was blocking terrain withing 6" of the board and then use a waldgeist to block off the rest, basically at that point you need stuff like blasts etc to get to him, or go around the terrain or kill the waldgeist first.

Again I also think that the question is not necessarily is he better than PM, cause card cycling is going to be more consistent than what the gorar does, but is the gorar viable? I absolutely think so, there are games where he will be next to useless, but in some games he can be a really good distraction and I like playing around rougarou/tooth anyway. Also, I like to play thematic so I would always lean more towards the thematic option, but that's just me.

circling the discussion of gorar back to the original subject, I really don't think the gorar is worth the points. However, that 3 stones is very well spent with will 'o wisps. You get an annoying little dude that, while insignificant is still a minion, and can control enemy agro. I always feel like like I'm getting more than my 3 stones' worth out of a wisp, both from it's passive abilities [and just existing] as well as it's actions. The gorar however has always felt like I was just burning an activation.

A.P. wins games, so the better quality my a.p. can be the better I'm going to do. Wisps give me a.p. of a higher quality than I wold expect out of a 3 stone minion. Especially if you have some fun [2]s to copy, then you're getting massively higher quality a.p.

Look at it this way: when thing start to die the gorar can bring them back, but if things don't die, it does next to nothing. Basically I don't like perks that require something to be going wrong to be useful, I'd rather they just work.

It depends on what you're running. I have rougarou tooth several times. They are a huge threat, but if you can kill one of them that threat is reduced significantly.

I don't take the gorar to have something extra when things go bad. He allows your minions to be more aggressive.

I for example saw an opening turn 3 to double walk rougarou and (0) 5 models, as well as pull them into titanias fgf range.

Gorar was alive so if the opponents wants to go for the rougarou he essentially kills gorar, gives rougarou another activation on 1ap and repositions rougarou, which is highly inefficient.

Gorar essentially makes your opponent take decisions. Go for the gorar? Ignore the threat of your minions? Go for the minion and take out gorar that way?

The success in using him relies on how well you can protect him and how much of a threat your minions pose.

PPPS @Joachim - I got my hounds, and I'd love to hear how you did the glazing on your  rougarou if you don't mind!  Thank you in advance for considering it!

    I'm happy to.

    1. I gave him a basecoat of a greyish dark brown and then drybrushed with quite a high contrast to a relatively light brown.

    2. I gave the entire model a brown wash.

    3. I started working in some color using glazes of: camouflage green, reddish brown, purple, purple mixed with brown, and red with lots of black. I tried to get some of the darker and stronger colors 'purple, black/red) in more shaded areas and put green glaze more on the legs and bottom of the belly, and tried to make it kind of random. I dont know if this is the right way to do it, since I don't have experience with glazes, but after applying the glaze, I used a dry brush to pass over the edges of the glazed area to smooth the glaze out and get a smoother blend. I really liked the effect that had so I'm happy with how that worked out. I applied a lot of red/black glaze close the zombie parts so it looks more like dead flesh.

    4. Finally I applied some more drybrushing to bring it back to a bit more brown and to increase the contrast, especially on raised surfaces. The rougarou are relatively skinny, especially around the hind leggs, and also the shoulders stick out a bit, so drybrushing these parts again really brings the model to live.

    5. For details I added some black with a little bit of red glaze, running down from the open wounds so it looks more dirty.

Hope this helps, also, the mysterious emissary is a great model. I had a lot of fun painting this guy. I actually posted him in one of the previous months.
