  1. I've used Moleman a few times and... I mean it's a 4ss model. It moves, it interacts. Might get a VP. But it's definitely very very fragile and any good opponent will just remove it before it gets a chance to score that VP or two. For a laugh I once added Camouflage on it and it did ok. Of course, that was one less Camouflage and I felt it for entire rest of the game. But it's rare I hire them. For reasons hashed out already in this thread. I've said it a few times, but Chimera is odd in that it feels like it's designed for me to run less than full theme. Now I know most masters are most optimal using less than 100% keyword, but out of everyone I've played Marcus feels like it has biggest disincentives to go full Chimera/Beast. What with the mutation limitations and attached master AP costs (& stones/cards for the mask trigger). However I do enjoy Marcus. Fun master. Enough good to decent models in the keyword that I can play the theme I dig.
  2. Teddy! Nice one I keep a few different backgrounds to photograph with. I usually go with my mid-grey. But I have white and black/grey for a few minis. I have a feeling this mini might work better on a dark background. Or even just midtone grey if you're currently using pure white. As is your camera is probably going haywire trying to 'fix' that dark mini/light background conflict. At least that's been my experience. Have you tried being a bit more bold with your highlighting? 'Course it's just my tastes but I think it could kick these up a notch. Whatever the case, what's coming up next?
  3. Great to see so much being done in the first third already! Strong showing, fellow painters👍 @Antinea Striking magic effect. I dig, very much. _______ Wanyudo done. Went for a rather cool colour scheme. I think it suits the model. Most chuffed for the wooden wheel itself. Even though it's the least eye catching bit of the whole thing. Oh and here's close up of one of the faces: Not like you can see those eyes at any realistic downward facing angle when playing. Oh well. That leaves just Minako to go for March. I'm excited. I've got no idea on how to paint her yet
  4. Not a fan of Samael. He did.... ok... ish. Fluffy list filler that doesn't entirely kill the list he's in. But I wasn't able to get consistent results with him. Not strong enough to love. Possibly not weak enough to buff via errata. Might just be my poor piloting of him though.
  5. I felt that way too, but by the end of my 13 game streak I was including 2 thralls + Handler as my core. It's a bit too one dimensional and expensive to be a proper, competitive core of a list I feel, but it got work done. Thrall's effectively have 3/5/7, or if lucky 4/6/8 track and Sonnia can use her t1 bonus to give it Focus. Depending on the table and opponent I might even consider using Steward's focus on a thrall instead of Sonnia as well. Charge in (with mv7 from Handler), hit ridiculously hard and then blow up. Yeah they're on the frail side, but they were fairly consistent in trading up when I was playing.
  6. @Cats Laughing yeah acrylics are challenging like that. You just need to get a feel for how colours change as they dry. But it's also a good tip to give paintjobs some time before declaring anything final with them. I know if there's a paintjob I really care about, I always give it a 2nd look one or two nights after I "finished" it and tweak accordingly.
  7. In the past Dawn Serpent was an infrequent pick for me. But it shined whenever I did pick it. Quite nice mix of mobility, tank and damage. Near guaranteed VP in a few strats/schemes.
  8. @Caedrus I seem to be missing my ss count for January in the spreadsheet. I did Yasunori for 10ss.
  9. @Stranglelove Liking the flames and overall palette on Brahms. Best of luck with filthy ressers👍 ____ WIPpery is afoot: Reasonably happy with the woodgrain. Looks nice enough 'live'. Currently working on flames, you see two smaller bits of flame painted to completion here. Tried out a few different ways to do them. Still not sure which I prefer. Or maybe I'll mix both Either way, there's a few layers of blue/white to go before I move onto the skin. And yes, I know the fire is painted wrong. Don't care, I dig the look All in all a laborious mini. Flames wrapping around, woodgrain everywhere. Just the act of getting the brush everywhere, bah. But I'm liking where I'm heading. Took two evenings to get to this point. I estimate another 2-3 to the finish line. We'll see how long it takes for me to get to those evenings though. Have a good one, everyone!
  10. At this point I'm starting to compare Dawn Serpent and Yasunori, and it's not looking good for the pony boy.
  11. Considering I was planning on in-theme Minako anyway, phew. Still summoning on 10s Not very enthused with Sensei Yu nerf. Feels like a big nerf to Monk theme lists in general. Few times I did use High River Monks they didn't feel like they needed nerfing. Oh well, gotta play 'n see. Mostly feeling positive about the changes though. Mostly
  12. Walk and Charge are very specific actions. See page 22 of the rules pdf.
  13. This guy was mostly drybrushing and washing. I was surprised myself but the sculpted detail took drybrushing really well. In addition I did some rough layering + successive washes on the tail to get bit of a colour transition going there. Drybrushing isn't my usual method outside of basing. It's just not as "fun" to apply. But I wanted to get this guy done fast. ____ Speaking of fast, here's what I did on my day off yesterday: Katashiro done. Really leaned on the fact that they're summoned out of "shadows". Added some red because I guess that's the thing I add when working with black (ok these ended up at 'grey'). Quite unhappy with my reds here. I should work on my reds. Maybe some day. Regardless these are certainly fine enough to play with. Next up WanyudoThinking about a blue flame/lifeless skin/dark wheel theme for it. edit: if it looks like I'm going fast, well yea I am. But I'm also compensating hard for the fact that I've got two 7-day work weeks coming up this month. Need to get my output up now to reach my goal for March
  14. He clarified on Facebook that only post-release 3e games count. So no beta.
  15. Wild colour scheme. Sounds like you had a solid plan for what you wanted to do with this. I approve👍 Enjoy the ride, Malifaux has some pretty cool sculpts, especially if you're cherry picking from multiple factions.
  16. Tanuki done! Fairly quick one to start the month with. Few lazy evenings worth of paint for this furball. Can't even remember when's the last time I drybrushed a model this heavily. Had trouble deciding on a colour scheme at first. Ended up not really using coloursNot quite black 'n white but... black 'n sepia perhaps? Planning on a darker, shadow marker inspired look for Katahiro. Hopefully with Wanyudo and Minako I'll get back to using some colours. Here's hoping everyone else is also off to a good start for March
  17. How did Myranda's healing come into it?
  18. Productive month :) Did the remaining 18 Citadel Guard and thus finished another unit type for Battlelore. Slowly getting there. As seen on the challenge thread, my monthly Wyrd for February was the Silent Knight. Killjoy alt, metal. Bit different style from 1e metals. This was a paintjob for a friend (traded a paintjob for his unpainted Killjoy). Quite a nice miniature. Bit bored by the paintjob but it was interesting to explore Wyrd's new take on metal. To balance out all that batch painting and boring colours, I took a few evenings to just have fun with this little lady from i-Kore (no really, she's quite small, 28mm twenty years ago wasn't quite what it is today). Gael Warrior of some sort I believe. Found her at the singles shelf at the LGS. Simpler sculpting from few decades back. Love love love. It's got its oddities sure, just compare her arm and head! Very fun paintjob. Didn't mean for her to be purple skinned but sometimes the brush takes me to strange places. Same evening I finished that Gael Warrior, I also did quick paintjob on these Razorwings from Battlelore. They're a singular "mercenary" unit in the game. Quick, spontaneous paintjob to clear more room for my desk. In the closing hours of February I finished Yeoman Archers for Battlelore. Did 5 of 15. ____ January: 21 minis February: 28 minis Total: 49 minis Sure that's only two "proper" paintjobs this month, but that's the theme for this year. At least until I finish the blue faction for Battlelore. I'm just glad I could sneak that i-Kore mini in between all this Battlelore and obligatory Wyrd painting. For next month's challenge I've pledged Minako Rei box and a Tanuki, so expect a bit less boardgame stuff for March. Happy March everyone. On and off the brush
  19. Is that GW or Raging Heroes used for the bottom model? Smashing job as I've come to expect from you👍
  20. Rules pdf page 32 on Replace rules: Inability to Interact sure seems like a lasting game effect, so I'd have to say no, the Ice Golem couldn't have Interacted that turn.
  21. Mini a month, is it? Yours are worth the wait. Beautiful brushwork.
  22. Brush priming that Wanyudo was surprisingly challenging. Lots of odd angles to it. Doing Minako Rei's box and a Tanuki for March. Starting with a Tanuki since I don't need to have 3 summons painted to play it.
  23. Been prepping my next month's lot. Minako Rei box and one or two Tanuki on the side. March will be busy.
  24. I quite like Trained Ninja with some of her models. Stealth combos quite nicely with Extended Reach. Put it on a Crime Boss and it gets From the Shadows on top of it. Handy.
