  1. Mini at a time gets the crew fully painted So far so good. Keep them coming!
  2. To be fair a good chunk of those was mass painted boardgame crap for Battlelore 2nd edition. That said Silver Tower by itself is 50ish minis and I'm quite impressed myself with that project. Good year, for my painting at least. Here's hoping for a productive 2021.
  3. Thanks @Boro. I managed to get a decent time:quality ratio out of them. Very happy with the project. ___ December 2020 update. This is late. I spent good 3-4 weeks mainly playing Mage Knight boardgame. It's a long one. Not much time for painting, photographing or posting. But here we go. Starting with my Wyrd contribution: Ryle, 2nd edition plastic. Painted as a christmas gift for a friend. I've always liked Ryle's figure, both metal and plastic. Simple cyborg monstrosity. I've never painted dark skinned undead before. I'm not sure I did this time either, but I did highlight towards greys to lean on Ryle's undead nature. And then a fair bit of Silver Tower: Grot Scuttlings. Mutated smurfs in Gargamel's basement. These were the last 'minion' group for the core box Silver Tower. Gaunt Summoner. Big bad of the game and final enemy in the core box. Turned out better than I expected during the painting. It's a neat figure. I like. Really happy with the flesh I managed to do. Vortemis the All-Seeing. Played with Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord rules, an "expansion" hero. Vortemis' box art has runes on the shoulder armour, so I did some doodles in there. Bit of a rush job to have him ready for a game so few parts aren't quite as refined as I'd have liked. But I don't like returning to 'finished' minis either Darkoath Chieftain. Another chaos themed hero. Probably my favourite mini from the base game. I like the calm pose. Tenebrael Shard. How hard is it to spell 'Dark elf assassin'? Last mini for 2020. He's a shadow magic themed character so I went for a fairly colourless scheme. January: 21 minis February: 28 minis March: 17 minis April: 1 mini May: 2 minis June: 0 minis July: 43 minis August: 90 minis September: 14 minis October: 7 minis November: 21 December: 15 Total: 259 minis And that's the year. Hoo boy. Battlelore practically finished (just one neutral expansion dragon in the wip shelf). Silver Tower likewise (core box mage isn't painted, but I've got an expansion caster hero so it balances out). Feeling good about those. ___ 7 minis done for 2021 thus far so I'm back on the brush. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to have another thread for 2021 or not though. I'll have to ponder that.
  4. @Caedrus downgrading to Totem. Hopefully I'll finish 2-3 crew boxes this year at least, but none of those are on my immediate to-do list. I'll see if I can hang on by the wing until I get some Wyrd painted again As for your Viks crew, I think magenta is the secret sauce in your chosen colour scheme. It really elevates the models that have it. Others seem plain by comparison. Nice to see Dark Sea Blue used so prominently. Lots of contributions this month. You guys rock Just a few mentions, I don't have all night unfortunately @Sphynxy TV Oh my gosh that Candy is adorable. I love that dress. @Magnus Good haul for two week's worth of painting. Keep doing squads or half squads at least somewhat consistently and you'll get your painted army. @Woody71 If I were to push Talos further, I'd look into brighter highlights, especially on the blue and green. Make 'em pop a bit more. There's a lot of metallic surfaces so painting a bit more interest into them could be worth it. Either just brown washed here 'n there to indicate grime, or pick out a few details with the green to match the otherworldy energies that power him. And simply just making shadows and highlights more pronounced on the metal will add some oomph to it. As is it's pretty uniform regardless of how lit different areas "should" be. Brass could also be balanced one the figure more. Currently it's on the base and on the hammer's pommel. Maybe pick out a few bolts or trim on the shoulders, gloves and/or hammer head. @Harlekin 5 minis, you're building up speed. I especially dig your undergraduates and Sybelle. @Vessien Good Fuhatsu. For c&c I'd like to see the highlights pushed a bit higher. Shine for the metal(?) armour and more emphasis on his face. But I'm really enjoying it as is.
  5. @Caedrus Ryle/10 soulstones to end the year. Painted this as a gift for a friend. It was well received. One of my favourite Guild sculpts. I decided to highlight the skin towards grey to emphasise Ryle being undead.
  6. Black is tough. I usually end up at grey by the end of it. I really like how the blue looks on her back. On the front yea I suppose it's a bit much in the overall colour scheme when viewed from that angle. Vasilisa again has some really sweet colour work. Very interesting to look at.
  7. Started working on my December mini. Basecoats done on Ryle: Fairly dark scheme, but I reckon my friend's going to appreciate it. I really enjoy this sculpt.
  8. Been partaking here for two years now. Might as well go for a third. I'm not the most prolific painter here since I painted most of my Malifaux stuff in 2016 and 2017 and try to keep my master/faction ADD in check. But partaking in this challenge keeps me painting Wyrd, and that ain't no bad thing. Past two years have been fun and this challenge has been an important part of my hobby life. Good folks, good times.
  9. Beautiful skin on all those gremlins. And the woodgrain on that rifle! Gosh it's pretty.
  10. @Purple Mist Old Lazarus isn't the most inspiring mini to paint. Good on you for finishing. Did the tubes come in red plastic?
  11. Cool indeed Seems like ages ago. Thanks for mentioning it. That was a fun set to paint through. Warm fuzzy memories.
  12. I'd try something dark with a sharp highlight on the upper lip. Dark green maybe. Bottle looks nice and I wouldn't want to add more distinct colours to the model. Although personally I might leave it at that and be happy that it probably doesn't show up overly much at gaming distance
  13. Best to paint the way you enjoy it. Good stuff.
  14. Thanks a bunch! I mostly followed the official colours. Cool looking models, despite how laborious they are to paint. _____ Before moving onto November, here's my October Rotten Harvest entry: Order Iniatiate for Marcus. Painted him shortly after the Tzaangor and I just kind of drifted into doing the skin very similarly. I quite like the green I managed to get for the scales. Can't remember what I used anymore though. I mixed something in with Scale75 Inktense Green, which is a lovely turquoise leaning green. And my November Wyrd mini: Pistolero de Latigo. 1e Metal. Such a joy to paint. Now onto the meat of my hobbying, Silver Tower progress for November: Fyreslayer Doomseeker. I didn't like the official paint scheme (caucasian, orange hair, gold runes). After some mulling things over I went with purple skin, green blades and cold gold. I was surprised how busy a naked dwarf (his ass cheek is showing!) can be. Not something I enjoy in mini painting. Nonetheless I'm happy with the end result. Horrors of Tzeentch. These guys were skin, a few ornaments and that's all. Very enjoyable to paint after the dwarf. Skaven Deathrunner. First rat man I've ever painted I think. Very cool character mini. Was a lot of fun. Ogroid Thaumaturge (it's the minotaur dude) and Chaos Familiars. Two bird familiars were painted in December so they won't go into this month's tally, but are pictured just the same. Minotaur's magic tattoo things are sculpted on. Familiars were very enjoyable, cool little things. Mini versions of Wyrd's effigies, which are among my favourite minis. January: 21 minis February: 28 minis March: 17 minis April: 1 mini May: 2 minis June: 0 minis July: 43 minis August: 90 minis September: 14 minis October: 7 minis November: 21 Total: 244 minis Very productive month on the hobby front. Feeling good about that. Already finished a few more so currently there's only 11 minis left to paint for Silver Tower. With the pandemic on the rise again (at least around here), I hope everyone's finding some solace in their hobby. Have a good one
  15. You've got a lovely colour palette. Looking really nice.
  16. @Caedrus I appreciate your efforts this year. Despite me half assing it a lot lately, I've enjoyed tagging along and seeing everyone work on their stuff throughout the year. __ For December I'm doing plastic Ryle as a gift for a friend. Will be towards end of the month though as I'm prioritising ten other non-challenge models first.
  17. @Caedrus Finished my 4ss Pistolero Latigo for November and 6ss Order Initiate for October/Rotten Harvest. Fun little distractions.
  18. Not sure. It isn't too dark, which immediately makes it better in my eyes than blackest darkness possible. In general I feel that a dark background makes the photo look better, though that doesn't always make for a true to life representation of the mini and paintjob. So personally I prefer the more midtone grey of your usual background, but you've managed to get a decent dark without it being pitch black. So you're good either way in my mind. Maybe post your next few minis with the dark background and see if that gets you more upvotes on instagram
  19. Doing my last metal Pistolero de Latigo for November: Metal Wyrd. Should be fun.
  20. Old Lazarus is a beefy model. Interesting experiment on a posable miniature, even if the end result was a bit questionable. As for gluing Kitty by her foot tips... You can call my Misaki "Misaki thrice glued"
  21. Managed to exceed my low goals. Group shot of the six Tzaangor. Chore to get through, but now they're done. I hear some silly people play army games with hordes of these models. Also for Silver Tower I managed to paint a paladin hero. Knight Questor it's called. And my final model for October was my Rotten Harvest entry. Nothing much, but it's fun to participate. Will add it to the thread once it's ok to do so. January: 21 minis February: 28 minis March: 17 minis April: 1 mini May: 2 minis June: 0 minis July: 43 minis August: 90 minis September: 14 minis October: 7 minis Total: 223 minis Not a lot finished in October, but an important milestone for the Silver Tower project nonetheless. Rest of the minions will be a breeze after Tzaangor. November may be damp and dark, but it's always bright and warm at the painting corner. I wish you guys all the best
