  1. And here is our coming game for Friday!!! The Scenario Turf War- Wedge Deployment Dig Their Graves Assassinate Deliver a Message Breakthrough Power Ritual My Crew- Skittering Wretch Size: 50 - Pool: 5 Leader: Hamelin Totem(s): Stolen Stolen 2 Stolen 3 Hires: Nix Obedient Wretch Freikorps Librarian Rat King Servant of Dark Powers Rat King 2 Servant of Dark Powers Prospector The Wife's Crew- Ten Thunders Parade Size: 50 - Pool: 6 Leader: Mei Feng Totem(s): Forgeling Hires: Shadow Emissary Dawn Serpent Sparks LeBlanc Trained Ninja Survivor Metal Gamin Metal Gamin 2 I thought about being extra sneaky and taking both Deliver a Message and Assassinate but decided it would not be as funny on the table as it was in Theory-faux so I opted for Assassinate and Dig Their Graves. The Dynamic Duo of Dragons look to be pretty annoying with their access to non-targeting damage whilst their high WP and HTK mean I cannot as easily 1-Shot them with Bleeding Disease. I also cannot tie them down due to Flight and Agile. Despite Bleeding Disease not being as reliable against them I think that it still may be one of my better options against them as it will ignore the Bombs in Yer Belly blasts that other attacks will no doubt generate. If that doesn't work, I can always explode a circumstantial Rat to finish them off. Readers may notice a change to my roster in that my Engi has been hitting the books and upgraded herself into a Librarian. Except for maybe the Freikorpsmann themselves, the Librarian is my favorite Freikorps model. I have been looking to use her with my Hamelin for some time but have been waiting until I was more familiar with the Keyword models first. I think she adds a lot to the crew and is worth hiring at 8 stones. She provides a mid-range WP attack that allows for proactive card draw whilst providing blast damage and a good spikey damage track. She provides healing that isn't reliant on killing my other models, and herhas 7 targets in this list already with the chance of generating more. Her Armor and Shielding are also more reliable with Hamelin as they are not as likely to be countered compared to if she were hired with Von Schill. The biggest selling point for her to me is Siphon Power. The ability to build in suits for card draw, blast damage, or pulse healing is really good. The ability to do so by draining chaff models that you already want to die is even better, and Hamelin provides that in excess with his Stolen and circumstantial Rats. Chaff aside, both Hamelin and Nix provide good targets for Siphon as Hamelin has an "extra" 15 health he can lose, and Nix can heal the single point of damage lost from Siphon in the very same duel he lost it with Sweet Taste of Failure. My gameplan is to have Hamelin and Nix lead a charge into my Wife's crew whilst my Rat Kings go up a flank together. One Rat King will be positioned more mid-flank so that it can attack any models attempting to run away, or redirect towards Hamelin and Nix to provide backup. The Librarian will be healing both Nix and Hamelin whilst re-positioning my minions, and when she is not busy with that she will be making opportunity attacks or helping the Prospector complete Dig. When the Prospector is not completing Dig he will be Appraising to disrupt my Wife's railroad. My lovely Wretch will have to be content with kicking butt and taking names with her primary target being Mei Feng. Looking forward to the 4th and I hope you guys have some great games too! Shalom.
  2. Banasuva’s Demise Ability reads that he may: “Drop... a Blocking, Destructible, Impassable Ice Pillar Marker” after he is killed. While looking at other abilities and actions in the game that create/drop Ice Pillar Markers I couldn’t help but notice that all of the other ones I could see define the Marker as Ht 4 in addition to the other terrain traits. Am I missing something, or if not, does it really matter? Nothing prevents Wyrd from making such similar Abilities/Markers but it does seem odd, at least to me. Btw sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.
  3. So it is a new morning and I have my love of Hamelin back now that I am done being a whiner-baby. This realization on how to play the Rats correctly doesn’t impact the Blight game I like to play, like... at all, though I think my Rat builds are definitely going to lose some flexibility. With my current pool of KW models, everything but Benny, I don’t think there is a way to make a good Rat build. Obviously then, the most mature and healthy recourse for my predicament is to spend more money and purchase Benny. Paging @Jesy Blue. How good of a combat model is Benny? I like the look of his Knife. Also, what upgrades have you found to be good on him?
  4. Initiative is a big reason yes. Hamelin’s crew already encourages the opponent to bring indirect damage due to multiple sources of Serene Countenance, Terrifying (from SoDP), and Manipulative. If that indirect damage came from blasts, the Rats could often be used against the Hamelin player by blasting off of them onto other models. This mass chain Activation I thought was possible from Just A Rat allowed the Rats to at least eat away an opponent’s Pass Tokens before this happened. Now the Rats can be an even bigger liability.
  5. So far it seems that @Phinn may have had the proper reading of the Chain Activation rules the first time and the more I think on it, the more I am inclined to agree. For some reason, this really puts me off using the Plagued now. The Rats already took a lot of finesse to work and apparently require even more than I realized... I think it is because at some point the complexity of the crew outweighs the fun and it is this reason which caused me to stop playing M3E Reva. Not being able to mitigate Pass Tokens as easily may have pushed Hamelin, at least a heavy Rat build, up to that point. Hopefully, fresh eyes will change my mind tomorrow though... Edit: I will be the first to readily acknowledge this could just be me being super salty...
  6. That makes sense. Its a shame for Hamelin though...
  7. I thought the discard was enough to reliably prevent chain-Accomplicing multiple models, and Just A Rat has never felt broken being done the way I read the rules, so I never even thought of the one-time effect reading. I wonder what the Rules lawyers will have to say... Edit: Not that you don’t raise a valid point or I don’t appreciate your two cents. I just want to see multiple opinions on this issue.
  8. I thought you couldn’t copy Moldy Cheese because it names the Malifaux Rat. What are your thoughts on Benny then? Does he do good work for you? I see value in his Bonus to deal damage with Vermin, but I can’t see much else he brings during his Activations. Also, is the discard on Sack O Rats worth it?
  9. I posted this query in the Rules forum to get some feedback.
  10. This just came up in the Outcast forum but I thought it wise to put it here to make sure I have been playing properly. Notable rules first: Chain Activations: Some effects can cause models to Activate after another model. If a model would Activate this way, immediately go back to the start of Step C. Players may not Activate more than two models in a row this way, unless they are Activated by the same effect. Emphasis mine, Pg. 21 Free PDF. Just A Rat...?: At the start of this model’s Activation, this model may end its Activation. If it does, the opposing player discards a Pass Token and this model’s controller chooses a friendly model to Activate. The Dead Hate the Living: Summon a Mindless Zombie into base contact with any number of Corpse Marker within range, then remove those Corpse Markers. Each Mindless Zombie Summoned in this way may then Activate immediately after this model’s Activation ends, one at a time. My question has to do with the meaning of by the same effect. Does same effect mean the same one-time effect ie The Dead Hate the Living, or does it mean same-named effect ie Just A Rat? I am leaning towards same-named effect, and have played it as such, as I think that is supposed to be the intention of Just A Rat. The wording on TDHTL also seems to make more sense with this reading, I think, as the effect would serve to highlight a notable exception to the Chain-Activating rules, rather than serve as a kind-of reminder text. I can easily see a reading in the other direction though. Thoughts?
  11. I am a native speaker and I do the same. That is why I am happy to have such friendly forums to go to for clarification. The way you have been activating Rats is a good alternative application should you not find yourself concerned with Pass Tokens that much, and/or you want to wait for some key Rats to activate and do their thing. For Idols though I think chain activating would be best 99% of the time as Initiative is going to be even more critical than usual.
  12. I am looking in the digital and that isn’t on the page. Is this the physical M3E book? Edit: Found it. Pg 21 of the Digital. From what I understand you can activate all of your Rats this way as the Just A Rat ability is the same on all of them. If I am understanding you correctly you are referring to activations being queued multiple times due to such actions like the Dead Rider’s? I think his is the exception as it specifically calls out the fact that the Zombies can activate one right after another.
  13. You are much more aggressive with your Rats than I am. I don’t know if I trust them enough to try and do that... Some follow up questions if you don’t mind. How many do you usually hire? Do you use Benny at all with your Rats?
  14. So what do you normally use the Rats for when you forgo using Just A Rat? I normally skip their activation unless they need to move somewhere else, but even that is rare for me tbh. My Rats usually are moved by Hamelin, a Catcher, or just summoned circumstantially and I find those methods are usually enough to get my Rats where I want them.
  15. I wonder then if it is best to play hard for the 1st Idol before Pass Tokens factor in and then work for schemes instead. Aim for 5 points and deny the opponent other Idols with Nix? So the scenario to come for me is: Idols- Standard Deployment Harness Search Detonate Deliver Power Ritual The crew I want to bring is: Hamelin- SoDP 3X Stolen Nix Rat King- SoDP Rat Catcher- S4H Prospector 5X Rats Cache 5 Rat Catcher can interact with Idols and stay standing do to his heal and HTK. Rat King and Nix can tie up the enemy. While there Nix can stall with Loose Bowels. Prospector is there to give a decent option for Detonate or Harness. Rats are there to be in the way of Idols to deny them from dropping at all, or to be health potions for the Catcher/King. Stolen are there to self destruct for more Rats as is their Inevitable Fate. In theory Nix should be able to deny 2 Idols in Standard with Loose Bowels if he is placed properly, and they have Blight, so he is my key model this game.
  16. The game after next for my Wife and I is Cursed Idols, and spoiler for absolutely no one ever, I will be playing Hamelin. Any tips? Does he lose Initiative because of Rats or just because of Stolen?
  17. Then there could be a new Crossroads model that has an action/ability like Monster Mash!
  18. I guess it is a shame that I can’t hire a Specialist OOK to take care of the Slow, Staggered, and Distracted the Brewmaster puts out. Oh wait... I guess it is a shame that Coughing Fit can’t be used to supplement Nihilism to prevent all the slow tests and Poison pulses that the Brewmaster can put out to save my hand. Oh wait... I also saw you ignored the critique on you pointing out the “build” issue of the Freikorps. Again, you overstate this weakness. Edit: Tara has Scion of the Void and also her crew also can end the Fast condition. Edit 2: Hamelin can have his Vermin take the general Assist action with Unclean Influence, or they could just do it themselves too. So that makes 3 crews with some form of Condition removal...
  19. Not much of a “build” when two of the models mentioned are the Master and Totem of a Keyword. That is like saying only certain “builds” of Tara support summoning. It is kind of built into how the Keyword is supposed to work. I could also declare Hamelin, and then hire Nix and Ashes and Dust for 3 Nihilism models, and just not gain any conditions on them. Hiring 1 OOK model for Hamelin is also not a “build” btw. I could also hire Johan for more condition removal in any crew. Given all of this I don’t think your condition strat is all foolproof as it reads.
  20. I think you may be shortchanging the Freikorps a bit here. The Freikorpsmann may be the only ones with Ruthless, but they can be augmented with upgrades, such as the Rocket Launcher, and be made to use that during Von Schill's activation. Not bad for a 5SS model that you can take multiple of. Side note: Those Rocket Launcher blasts are also good at getting around having to target Terrifying models. About the condition removal, I think it more correct to describe theirs as specialized rather than limited. Von Schill can remove any condition with Shrug Off. The Steam Trunk can remove Burning or Poison within 2" with no flip required. Hannah can remove any condition from a friendly within 8" whilst using one of their tactical actions. The Freikorps Specialist can remove Distracted, Slow, and Staggered within a pulse of 10"(!) on friendlies for only a 4+.
  21. The Freikorps have access to a decent amount of Ruthless and Condition removal...
  22. Onto the next scenario for Oct 4th!!! The Scenario Turf War- Wedge Deployment Dig Their Graves Assassinate Deliver a Message Breakthrough Power Ritual So it ended up being declared a Re-rematch... Hamelin vs Mei Feng again. I don't mind this at all as I absolutely adore Hamelin, though I am sure readers may be through with me talking about him, or at the very least him vs. Mei. Originally, it was going to be Von Schill vs Misaki, but I couldn't bare parting from my Plague and my Wife wanted to get a handle on the Foundry so here we are. My Crew Hamelin 3X Stolen Nix Obedient Wretch 2X Rat Kings- SoDP Freikorps Engineer Prospector To be forthright, this is my first time taking Hamelin into Turf War... hopefully it works out. I want to engage her quickly with my Blight-bubble around one of her TW Markers so Nix can keep it locked down. One Rat King is intended to be a dive buddy with Nix whilst the other I am hoping to have flip one of my Markers Turn 1 and then afterwards go up a flank to start flipping the others. I am trying to use Skittering Vermin here as much as possible so it should be fun. Obedient Wretch was chosen for Assassinate purposes and as another model with Skittering Vermin. Prospector is intended to contribute to, and deny, DTG and give me some more SSs for Hamelin and Nix. Now, to address the elephant in the room... Freikorps Engineer So I decided to hire the Engi for 2 main reasons: 1. Tools for the Job It is very well documented at this point how much I love investing in additional Suits for Hamelin, be it mores for Taint or mores for Skittering Vermin. The only problem, if you could call it one, is that there are only so many of those Suits in the Fate Deck (15 if you count the RJ). This number is further reduced when you factor in having to at least Tie the opponent, and even more-so when you factor in having to meet Lure's TN. These two Suits are absolute gold to me, and Tools enables me to reuse these precious resources. In addition to the above, Tools allows the Engi to be a self sufficient combat model. Discarding a low orgives hisbuilt-in Armor piercing or Injured respectively; whilst discarding a (don't need these for Hamelin anyways) can give him a Min 3, 12" (it seems like it would be nice to have a way to deal some good damage at range without Blight investment). 2. Strengthen Armor Engi's is great! Assuming he targets himself, he can cycle a card, give himself Shielding +2, and some Focused or Concealment. When combined with Tools this allows him to really spike models down that try to flee from the bubble whilst increasing his defenses (Don't get me wrong; I love Hamelin's literal take on the idea that throwing more bodies at a problem is the best solution, but sometimes I want a model that can actually stick around for a little bit). Strengthen Armor can still be solid even if taken on another model as I am sure my Wife would absolutely love the idea of Nix or a Rat King with Shielding and Focused/Concealment! (Note: This is sarcasm. My Wife would not actually love Nix or a Rat King with Shielding and Focused/Concealment) The above two reasons alone are, I think, enough to warrant the Engineer's testing in the Plague crew, but the above isn't even all the Engi brings to this Scenario. His will allow me to more chances to flip TW Markers, and Sabotage will allow me to generate Scheme Markers as a reward for killing my Wife's Constructs (Yay to DTG and Scheme/Strat synergy!) I am very excited, as always, for our coming game and I can't wait to destroy my Wife! Hope you enjoyed reading and that you guys and gals have fun being Outcasts! Shalom
  23. Hamelin and Nix would be the best for sticking Blight on enemies. Hamelin has Source of the Contagion and Taint on Lure. He also has Blight on his Staff, and can use Pustulant Tumors to pulse Blight. Bleeding Disease, Coughing Fit, Voracious Rats, and Terminal allow him to take advantage both in and out of activation. Nix has Diseased and Taint on his Bite. Drink Spirit allows him some additional coverage for potential Blight whilst Bleeding Disease and Loose Bowels act as good pay offs for the investment. Rat Kings can also spread Blight decently with Diseased, the built-in Blight on Swarm of Yellow Teeth, and the Spray of Filth trigger. I don’t usually get to use the Blight from SoYT though as my Rat Kings usually kill their targets, not that I am complaining about that.
