  1. I've been lurking for some time and have been very interested in PW:U despite the lack of continued support since its release. So i have a few questions to make a more informed decision on whether or not to purchase this in the future. 1. How similar is this game to Malifaux? 2. Is this game easy to teach to non-gamers? For example i play with a very small number of people, 1 of which doesn't like anything heavier than Pandemic. 3. What is the quality of the miniatures? Thank you to all who take the time to answer these questions!
  2. I agree. I'm trying to try all of the Candle's tools and normally i act as though that one isn't even printed to be honest. So far i normally just recycle a card and chain activate.
  3. I've really liked using Chiaki with Reva. I've played a few games with them and if you are running a Beyond Death Reva then she really appreciates Chiaki with Pull of the Grave to help mitigate damage. I'm going to try and play a game this weekend with Reva with Beyond Death, Maniacal Laugh, and Decaying Aura and Chiaki running support with POTG and report back in more detail later. Thus far the Corpse Candles have really helped with protecting Chiaki and Reva with Disguised but i plan to try and use them to target an enemy model to get + to attack flips so Chiaki can get her 0 off more often and rack up more Chi. This is assuming of course my wife doesn't choose to take Sonnia...
  4. Has anyone playing Reva faced someone using a primarily construct or spirit list yet? I'm curious how Reva would fair without the corpses generated from killing living or undead enemies.
  5. I hope those were unique experiences as well. Reva and her crew were the reason i switched from Pandora and it would be a shame if your experiences were the norm. Any competitive game thrives on the enjoyment and interaction had between its players so hopefully others will begin to find reasonable counters to her. That in mind are there ways to mitigate her threat range? Best case scenario for Reva she can hit a model 21" away without using any AP to move and she can hit them from absurd angles behind cover depending on corpse marker, mindless zombie, or corpse candle placement. Off the top of my head i can think of smoke bombs from the Ten Thunders and Sonnia's flame wall as potential screens to block Strength of the Fallen. Freikorps Specialist can help mitigate some of Reva's attack nodes as well. Regarding Reva herself, while she does have numerous chances to heal via Regeneration and her trigger that does still require her to activate in order recoup any wounds (ignoring any healing from outside sources such as Nurses, Chiaki, etc.) A sustained assault or alpha strike would be an opponent's best bet at removing her though she can still mitigate this through soulstones...

Here is a possible Beyond Death/Maniacal Laugh list: Reva- Maniacal Laugh (1), Beyond Death (1) Vincent (8)- Deal with Death (1) Carrion Emissary (10) Forgotten Marshall (7) Shieldbearer (6) Shieldbearer (6) The shieldbearers can provide additional corpses from themselves or dismember triggers. Forgotten Marshal can teleport as needed via Omen's suggestion earlier to help take out key models. Vincent and Reva can do some nice killing via an increase to damage for Vincent and more outlets for attack for Reva. Lastly, the emissary and Reva can provide activation control from their mindless zombies.
  7. Yes the combination with Bete would only work if she is already deployed. I'm thinking that after some testing Toshiro is a rather large investment to just trigger vigor. I think Fetid is correct about utilizing Blood Mark with the Shieldbearers as a better option. We've spoken some about how to use Guises of Death Reva. Does anyone have any ideas on specific crew choices for Beyond Death? I think that the Corpse Candle's 0 to give the disguised condition might see more use if Reva is in the thick of battle more. I'm also wondering if Reva utilizing Yin for the WP penalties to enemies could work out well.

I want to try some shieldbearers with the forgotten marshal like Omenbringer suggested, just because i like the model. i also really want to maximize the shieldbearers' value and i think to do that you would need at least two and try to abuse vigor. The only way i can think of to do that is to use Toshiro and stone for war fan pushes but i think that, while fun, is alot of resources committed to making two or three minions fast and have +s to their melee attack. What is everyone else's experience with them? How can we maximize their value?
  9. Sad about the lack of the keyword but we can't have everything. Has anyone considered the rogue necromancy? It wouldn't mind the push and attacks from Reva could trigger smell fear if you attack willpower.
  10. Don't have the newest book but by looking over some of the released information for Archie it looks like he will do very well with Reva. Using Blood Mark on him helps them both and if i understood the 0 correctly from Doc Found a Tentacle then you can also pull an enemy model into melee range and then begin shooting out attacks from Archie. Looks to be a solid addition. Good idea.
  11. I enjoy Blood Mark alot. I don't know if i would ever not take it. As for litany of the fallen i could easily see taking that instead of decaying aura on bete. I enjoy shieldbearers but am unsure on their place in a list. Canine Remains seem to be able to deliver corpses where they need to be better then shieldbearers but shieldbearers may be better in turf war. Ultimately i think it depends on whether or not you can reliably use their soulbound upgrades as that was easily factored into their soulstone cost. If the upgrades never go off, speaking primarily to The Gift of Death and Another Purpose, then i think they are probably over priced.
  12. So for a sample list we have Reva- Guises of Death (1) Vincent (8)- Deal with Death (1), My Little Helper (1?) Carrion Emissary (10)- My little Helper (1?) Bete Noire (8)- Decaying Aura (2) Crooligan (4) Crooligan (4) That is 40ss so far. That leaves 7 to spend if you want if you want a full cache and 10 if you don't. Just off of this list we have 7 models after the extra Corpse Candle summon from Guises of Death.
  13. That seems like a much better plan than mine. I'm always changing my mind on whether or not to use canine remains or the crooligans as scheme runners. Crooligans obviously have their merit s with debuffs to WP and starting upfield, but canine remains can potentially create more corpse markers and debuff defense, which can aid shieldbearers among other things.
  14. Hmmm... Would taking Vincent with Corpse Bloat be a stupid idea? Deploy him upfield and start dropping corpses early to give Reva even more nodes to attack from early game...
  15. I forgot about being able to stand atop corpse to deny LOS to them... That is a very good point. I think that alone may warrant my reconsideration of Maniacal Laugh. You've also addressed another problem i was trying to figure out: the Forgotten Marshall. I've been wanting to use him but couldn't think of a good delivery system to take advantage of his absurd mobility. With Maniacal Laugh it would add that many more targets to deploy him. Thanks for that! You are also right in that i unfairly discounted or forgot that though she has no defensive "tricks", she does have copious amounts of healing via triggers on attacks and regeneration on her upgrade. It appears i'll have to reconsider how i've been using Reva so far. I think i can get MUCH more out of her... though now i need to buy a box or two of Mindless Zombies...
  16. I think it would be a very interesting delivery system as on the surface it makes the opponent choose between a walking corpse for Reva to shoot from or Bete plus a static corpse to shoot from. Bete actually appears to be more and more appealing for Reva the longer i think about it... She provides more corpses for Reva to shoot from by killing things and Reva provides more targets for her to unbury or gain fast by way of a corpse candle. Assuming you wanted to provide more death in a concentrated burst you could activate Reva, summon a candle, attack whatever, use last AP with the Blood Mark upgrade to move candle and take a 0, sac candle to cycle a card, drop a new corpse marker, and chain activate a fast Bete. Whoops i missed a word in Bete's Scent of Blood ability. The above combination will NOT give her fast, though the rest of the combo should still work.
  17. I'm feeling apprehensive regarding Mwahahaha and its usefulness with Reva. Reva has alot of wounds but no defense tricks so to get the maximum effect you would need to be closer to combat then she would like. To mitigate this drawback perhaps using Beyond Death in conjunction with Mwahahaha would be the best answer so you can artillery bomb and charge around on a spectral horse? I prefer her with Guises of Death so far though so i can begin with a Candle and can ignore models trying to tie her up. Could Guild Autopsies be used to gain some mindless zombies and help Reva gain some more board and activation control?

Encounter- 50 Soulstones Deployment- Standard Strategy- Turf War Schemes- A Line in the Sand, Assassinate, Protect Territory, Make Them Suffer, Plant Explosives Kayz Misaki- Cutpurse, Recalled Training, Misdirection Ototo- Servant of 5 Dragons, Call the Thunder Dawn Serpent Torakage Torakage Torakage Schemes- A Line in the Sand (Unrevealed), Make Them Suffer Soulstone Cache- 6 (Miscount on Soulstones) Max Reva- Blood Mark, Beyond Death, Necrotic Preparation Vincent- A Deal With Death, Necrotic Preparation Toshiro Chiaki- Pull of the Grave Shieldbearer Shieldbearer Shieldbearer Schemes- A Line in the Sand (Revealed), Make Them Suffer Soulstone Cache- 7 My goal for this game was to run Toshiro to the center of the board with the Shieldbearers, pushing and granting them fast through war fan and vigor. Once he was there he would use any excess corpse markers to give them focused. The Shieldbearers were supposed to provide corpse markers through the dismember trigger and their… fanatical devotion to the cause, all the while scoring for Turf War and A Line in the Sand. Reva and Chiaki were to support Vincent as they went up the right flank to pick off those pesky ninjas combating my cult to score for Make Them Suffer. Turn 1 Highlights -Kayz begins with an awful hand and stones. Her hand remains awful afterward. -Toshiro stones for the required tome to push a Shieldbearer and Black Jokers the flip for war fan. Luckily the 3 Shieldbearers around him still gain fast from vigor so Toshiro walks towards the center. -The 3 Shieldbearers walk towards the Centerline, with one heading more towards the right flank to drop a scheme marker and the other two heading towards the Turf Marker. -Ten Thunder Minions walk towards the centerline along the left flank. -Kayz then employs some classic Ten Thunders cunning, as a Tyrant by the name of Autumn snatches Chiaki off the board and begins waving her around much to my horror. Luckily i’m able to drive her back and Chiaki is returned unharmed. I’m beginning to suspect that the soulstones weren’t miscounted afterall... -Misaki then walks and charges a Shieldbearer, flipping the Red Joker thereby granting me an early corpse. I attach the soulbound upgrade: The Gift of Death, giving the Shieldbearer finish the job. Misaki drops Shieldbearer to 1 health with second attack. -Chiaki walks, slows Misaki, makes her insignificant, and gains 1 Chi. -Ototo walks towards center Turn 2 Highlights -Kayz and I both stone for cards. -Ototo kills wounded Shieldbearer and i drop a scheme marker with finish the job. -Misaki charges Vincent and stones for crows. Her first attack goes through with trigger despite Red Joker defense flip and gets assassinate trigger. I discard 2 soulstones and Vincent pushes away. -Reva summons a candle towards the center and attacks a hiding Torakage by pushing Vincent and using him as a corpse. -Torakage runs away and hides in soft cover. -Vincent chases him down and kills him. -Chiaki slows Ototo -Candle moves towards Reva and kills itself to disguises her. -Toshiro attempts stoning and using warfan again and flips the Black Joker. One Shieldbearer gains fast from vigor. -Shieldbearer on the left flank drops a scheme marker and walks towards center. Remaining minions on both sides do stuff i forgot to write down :/ We both score for Turf War and Make Them Suffer Max- 2 Kayz-2 Turn 3 Highlights -Neither of us stone as we only have two soulstones apiece. -Ototo attempts to thunder and fails. He attacks Toshiro and slows him. -Chiaki makes Ototo insignificant and gains another Chi. She then slows Misaki and attempts to slow Ototo but Black Jokers the flip. She uses last AP to heal Toshiro and remove slow. -Misaki uses stone and attacks Chiaki, getting the assassinate trigger. I decide to let it go and Kayz has “trouble” hiding her glee as i remove her from the board. I doubt she could’ve lived a normal life anyway after the Tyrant attack… -Reva pushes Vincent and uses him as a corpse again. She kills a Torakage by attacking through him and then Life Drains Misaki for 5 damage. -Dawn Serpent attacks and kills a Shieldbearer who attaches the Soulbound upgrade: The Gift of Death. Dawn Serpent kills him again and he drops a scheme marker. We both score for Turf War but only i score for Make Them Suffer Max-4 Kayz-3 Kayz is out of soulstones. Turn 4 Highlights -We flip initiative and i stone to reflip and win. Unfortunately i forgot to take many notes this turn… -Corpse Candle activates and walks and moves corpse to try and allow Reva an attack angle on last Torakage but can’t get it close enough. Candle then kills itself to allow Vincent to chain activate. -Vincent shoots into center and randomizes into Toshiro who wins the defense duel. Vincent shoots again and randomizes into the Torakage, dropping him to 1. -Torakage runs away and goes back towards Kayz’s deployment, hiding behind some dense trees. -Misaki double kills Shieldbearer who drops scheme marker. -Reva activates and i realize that ironically the remaining Torakage is hiding behind the same dense forest that one of the other Torakage were hiding behind when they died. After cheating and winning the duel i choose to instead activate the Screaming Death trigger and charge and kill Misaki. -Ototo moves and removes a scheme marker. We both score for Turf War and Kayz scores for Make Them Suffer Max-5 Kayz-5 Neither of us have soulstones. Turn 5 Highlights -Reva activates and kills the the Dawn Serpent and the Torakage she spared last time. She then uses the last AP to move her last Candle and use a 0 action to chain activate Vincent. -Vincent activates and kills Ototo to gain a soulstone -Toshiro activates and walk and removes a scheme marker. We both score for Make Them Suffer. Kayz scores 1 for A Line in the Sand. I score for Turf War and 3 for A Line in the Sand. Max-10 Kayz-7 Final Thoughts I really enjoy Reva's entire box and i think i will struggle to not take the entire crew every time. The corpse candle's are surprisingly useful as totems, especially their 0 to chain activate a friendly model. I am unsure about the Beyond Death upgrade though. It did allow me to waste Kayz's resources and kill Misaki but i really like being able to start a candle upfield and get the corpse train moving earlier. I also like being able to shoot while still engaged so i think i might start using her other Limited upgrade and seeing how that works out. Chiaki was awesome and i look forward to fielding her again. I am unsure if i like Toshiro without any upgrades. I may field him with Corpse Bloat to help Reva pick off others and so he can get focused to the Shieldbearers. Kayz was fun to play against, as always. She did forget about Recalled Training and her upgrade to remove scheme markers on Ototo and i wonder how that could've changed things. Any thoughts and recommendations on how we can improve in both game and battle reports are appreciated! Thanks!
