  1. I'm starting a TtB game with a group of new players, about half of whom are very new to RPGs (one has never played an RPG before). I've decided to run one of the Penny Dreadful one-shots for our first session, just to get them acquainted with the game mechanics. They'll have the option to use their own characters or start with a pre-gen if they want to see how the game plays first. Right now I'm looking at Night of the Carver or Recruitment Drive, and they both seem like good starting adventures. NotC seems a bit more "think outside the combat"-heavy, since the Carver can't truly be killed, whereas RD is much more straightforward, and also gives the characters a reason to work together, rather than assuming they've already formed relationships. As you can see, I'm currently leaning more towards Recruitment Drive as a better starting point. Can anyone who's already played through either of these give some feedback on their accessibility for new gamers? I'm also open to other suggestions for good starting one-shots. Also, while I'm on the topic, would anyone be interested in play reports? There don't seem to be too many here (or maybe I'm just not finding them), but I've always enjoyed a good yarn and am considering writing up or recording our sessions. Thanks!
  2. Outcasts vs. Arcanists I brought Tara against my opponent's Marcus. Since it was my first time playing against him, I forgot he can turn my models against me, and Beast Bombed the Nothing Beast into him. I whiffed the attacks, Marcus activated and took control of TNB. TNB turns right around and charges Tara, getting the trigger to bury her (which I promptly fail to resist). Tara spends the next 2 turns buried as we both flail ineffectively at each other.
  3. Great report, interesting to see something with 2 crews that I'm still trying to figure out in my own games against them. Keep them up, please!
  4. Always good to see stuff aimed at introducing new players (like me) to the game. Out of curiosity, when does part 2 come out?
  5. Whelp, that's it, I found my color scheme for this guy.
  6. Ah, that makes a lot of sense! Yeah, I didn't really get it from the synopsis, but that makes it very clear, thanks.
  7. Another great Malifaux report! Your reports are always great. Do you have any thoughts on the mat you're using? I love the design and the pre-marked measurements, but I've heard mixed reviews about the overall quality. Any thoughts?
  8. I love the way you incorporate the story into the new Manifested Powers, it's very cool and serves to both reward players and remind them of past adventures. I must say I'm a little unclear on how this fulfills "she is unknown to your divine". That's a tricky one to begin with, so would either you or Briana be interested in explaining it a bit?
  9. Any chance of this continuing or being updated? I'm loving your interpretation of the fate steps!
  10. I'm enjoying your battle reports, keep up the great work!
  11. Hi everyone, I'm a new player from the San Francisco Bay Area in California. I've been a minis gamer for a loooong time, and bounced around from game to game until I found Infinity, which sparked a love of skirmish-level games. I've been unable to play for the past 6 months or so, and during that time I became interested in Malifaux. Things have finally settled down for me, so I'm hoping to get an Outcast collection started and finally get some games in! I've done a couple of practice games on Vassal, but in reality I'm a complete newb. I'll be at Endgame in Oakland on Thursday nights starting next week (April 7th), so if you're down to help me muddle through my first games, let me know!
