  1. Ok, cool, so I'll see about that and then I might ping my old henchman to see whereabouts he's running tournaments. Will definitely check out the Outcast side of the forum! Thanks!
  2. Oh cool, so the rules are free now, awesome! 😄 Good to hear that the Vics are still a fast melee powerhouse, I might grab the box tomorrow morning. I might sit and wait on the Explorers then, if only two masters are out. So, Vic box, rules downloaded, all I gotta do if drum up a bit of interest/get people playing! Also, if anyone can answer regarding the guilders that's be awesome! Thanks!
  3. Hey! It's been a few years since I last played a game and probably almost as long that I've posted here. A few friends at my LGS were discussing Malifaux today and I flipped the black joker in resisting the urge to get back in. I've a few questions regarding 3rd edition as I dropped out when Titania first came out. Are Guilders still a thing? I've got around 17 of them lying around and if I can still trade them in, that'd be awesome. What are the major rules changes? From my investigations it seems that hiring is now keyword locked, but Masters can still hire from outside the keyword with losses to synergy? If that's not right, could someone let me know? Has shooting from height been fixed?! Masters and play-styles and lore, oh my! I sold off or gave away my collection as I drifted from the game. It seems a lot of my old favourites are MIA (Ramos, Lilith). That being said, it means a fresh start and I've been eyeing off the Victorias and/or the Explorer's Guild faction. Are the Vics still melee powerhouses, and how do the new masters play? On the previous note, I do like speed in a faction, but am also partial to a good beat-down murderizer. What sort of faction/masters would best suit that style? Is it still the steampunk, cosmic horror and wild western setting that I came to enjoy immensely? Is there are starter set, or do I just grab a box, the rules and an opponent?
  4. Would it be pertinent to sing "Starman" when playing the Cult of the Burning Man when ToS ships? Cuz there's a Starman burning in the sky, he'd like to come and meet us, but thinks we'll be burned alive. Also: Meridion: Tyrant of the Gibbering Hordes that lost fighting against the Nephilim and were imprisoned under the seas of Malifaux. Agents of Meridion such as the Stormsiren wish to claim Earth in the name of Meridion. Imprisoned somewhere underneath the seas in Malifaux. Cherufe: Ripped from Sonnia during the previous Governor General's botched ascension. Possibly no longer Cherufe but a fused Combo-Tyrant with the GG. Currently Earthside (London, see The Other Side). Is it possible for the original post to be updated and does the previous Governor General deserve a place?
  5. Is it possible to get the backerkit email re-sent? I'm thinking of changing my pledge level/add more goodies, but seem to have deleted it If it is possible, who do I contact?
  6. Thanks a bunch Kyle! I'm stoked for the game and want to help out in any way I can
  7. Hey all, I've sent the email off to @Kyle when the update arrived for beta testing/use of the vassal module for TOS, but I can't see the forum or find out where I can get access to the module. I'm pretty certain I submitted all of my details correctly.
  8. How do we get access to the module? I sent the email out to Kyle a while back, but can't find any link/mention of the module on Vassal itself
  9. Haven't tried Lucius in Neverborn but I feel he's been given the short end of the stick. The Autumn knights alone should be a massive boost for him due to them dropping scheme markers and being minions. I think we've gained the most out of W4 by having one of the coolest crew box (model wise). End of year thoughts? Well I'm excited for story progression now, given how Titania is trying to transfer NB leadership and the Tyrants are ramping up their plans. Kinda want to switch faction in the new year (to justify all those purchases...) but definitely want to stick to NB for a while too. Having started this game in Jan, I've learned a lot and have an appreciation for cheating fate and using cards instead of dice. Come 2017, I'm definitely getting around to painting up some of the larger models.
  10. Ok, will try and source the TTB books, thanks for that @Mason. I'd trust Taelor on that section of her story, the best fabrications have truth with fiction woven around them. As for the Masamune, it appears that some aspect of the Tyrant Shezuul is bound or imprisoned within. Shenlong though in Ripples seems to be about to journey in search of the other part of the dragon.
  11. Anyone? Is there any chronicles, 1e, 1.5e stuff I should read through?
  12. The glory mechanic sounds really cool- Using leadership to inspire towards greatness rather than using it to rally fleeing troops.
  13. After re-reading Titania's story in ripples, I've quite a few questions regarding the relic hammers. Haven't read any 1e or 1.5e background so unsure if I've missed anything, but from what I've read: There's one for each Tyrant, 13 in all- and they sealed the Tyrants away in their respective prisons somehow Taelor's Relic Hammer is the one that was used to imprison the Nameless Which leads me to ask: Are there any more bearers of Hammers outside of The Captain, Taelor and Johan? Were they used to kill, or just imprison the Tyrants? (Also begging the question of how Titania offed them all in the first place) Is the technique in making Relic Hammers lost, or is there some kind of Relic Forge hidden somewhere in Malifaux? Can another tool/weapon (say, a blade or a pistol) be given the same properties as a Relic Hammer? Does the rules regarding constructs have to do with another Tyrant not previously mentioned? More recent fluff seems to imply that there is very much a construct-based Tyrant... Does Ghal Maraz count as one? (joking on this one) Any answers would be greatly appreciated!
  14. How do they look in comparison to the rest of the guardsman models? Don't have McCabe but wanted to use these with our Mimic Master Mattheson.
  15. Sadly, no. Asked this question a few months back on AWP.
  16. Titania needs a beater, or at least something that can pour out attacks. Despite her crew placing scheme markers like crazy they'll burn through a lot of them. Have only used Aeslin , Tooth and Claw out of her box (tried them out at a henchman hardcore event) but the Fae lack a damage dealing model. The knights are brilliant for both Set-up and Take prisoner due to their challenge of <season> but at their cost, I'm unsure if I'd run all three in a Titania based list. Given you need Taproot for their defensive trigger, which needs scheme markers placed, I'd say something with Df or Wp 6+ is warranted in her crew. Things that lower of give to Wp seem good, due to the aforementioned challenges and Curse of Autumn, but the target isn't that low to warrant chasing Wp debuffs as a be-all, end all. Personally looking at test-running Titania with maximum out-of box upgrades, then filling the gaps with either cheap scheme runners or a beater. Going to try and get a bunch of games in to get a feel for how the Queen works and report back.
  17. I'll give schemes and stones a listen to sometime this afternoon, and may try to set up a me vs me match this weekend as work doesn't give me much time during the week to do things. Thanks for all the advice and help so far, everyone. Taking a small leave from organising any games as I need to reset my attitude so I'm not fuming after another loss.
  18. Enforcer brawls and henchmen hardcores are their own events that my local Henchman puts on. Everything else is standard Malifaux. There's a lot of fun games that have been played, though there's also games where I've been annihilated from turn 1. I'm the newest player in the group, outside of a couple of players returning from 1.5e. Been using Lilith for the most part, with a few months of using Ramos. Usually I try to get my schemes and strategy done and focus less on denial, though I'm not even sure how I'd even deny VP. I feel familiar enough with most of my models, though opponents models, not so much.
  19. First off, I've been playing Malifaux since January and in that time I've only had one victory- one round in a henchman hardcore round where I pulled off assassinate (placed 7/9). Other than that it's been almost nine months of losses and it's bugging me more than I'd like it to/care to admit. Over the past couple of months my attitude has soured towards playing the game, most recently when I was pipped at the post in placing 3rd in a tournament enforcer brawl. Being beaten by 2VP got to me as all previous tournaments were last or almost-last and placing 3rd would've been awesome. I fumed for a few days, which has led to this post- I'm getting far too annoyed at losing now and would rather overcome my attitude than rage-quit the game. I've gotten better at getting schemes and strategies fulfilled despite constant loses, though not having a real and solid standard Malifaux win is stifling my enjoyment of the game. A win at this stage is probably more psychological at this stage than anything else- sort of a 'I can actually win games'. Don't get me wrong, quite a few of my games are fun, it's just that getting beaten (by better players) constantly is getting me down and getting on my nerves. I really don't want my attitude to ruin future games as it's unbecoming of me and isn't how a Malifaux player should behave. What I want to ask (and need to ask) is how do I not let constant loses get to me? How do I overcome the discouragement that I'm feeling? How do I keep the annoyance in check? Any help would be greatly appreciated
  20. Since the initial post had spoilers re: Cherufe, SPOILERS I guess. I'm actually keen on more fluff about the Burning Man and whether or not the old GG did become a Tyrant though his ascension was botched due to Cherufe and now they're one super-tyrant. The book states that they were like two matches flaring up next to each other at the same time and their flames became something more. Unsure if it's just Cherufe manifesting through the GG or they've become one. Going to have to support the theory of two dragons being the one Tyrant ala Pisces being two fish yet one constellation/astrological symbol. Yin and Yang is the most obvious part of this, then there's also the introspection Shenlong does within his own vignette. 12 names for 13 is because the thirteenth is Nameless or at least, only has the title of being 'The Nameless'.
  21. Nah, they're Earth- Over the pebbles. Drunken river monks represent Water, High river is Fire and Wandering river is Air.
  22. Awaiting Sandeep's box in the post- there's photos up on A Wyrd Place with mispacked crews which has me worried. I know Wyrd has excellent customer service but I'm uber keen to try him out. Probably just a foolish worry, but there's a fair bit of uncertainty there. Trying to avoid story spoilers so keeping FB time to a minimum as spoilers are starting to appear (my book arrives soon, but srsly plz stahp) Random Arcanist discussion: I don't care for plastic Raspy and found a metal crew on ebay. Taking the ice golem with Ramos and the mechanical rider should be a bad-but-fun list, as the summonables are mostly ht1 and can be tossed Tossing an electrical creation would be hilarious. Picked up a metal Essence o' power as I've cards from a wave 1 arsenal and I hate having spare cards doing nothing. Plus it'll serve her better than "Furry thing hits disco guardsman" In the future I'd like to see some sort of nature Master/Henchman- the Flora to Marcus's Fauna. Some kind of botanist perhaps, with a focus on water magic to make things grow and fill out an elemental gap in Malifaux. Outside of Jakuna and The Drowned, nothing much focuses on water. We have Sonnia and Kaeris for fire, Ramos, Hoffman, Mei for metal, Raspy for Ice, Misaki, Ototo for lighting/thunder and so on. Random Malifaux discussion: I'd like to see more story boxes as many seem to be good starting points for smaller games- the Amphibious Assault and Uni of Transmortis are examples. Lucius is a good master, he just requires ALL of the micromanagement. Tried him for the first time today and lost 5-8 as I didn't have enough bodies to get Interference points. Less guild hounds and more sturdier things may have helped. Orderlies are good Devil's Deal schmucks in that they can emergency surgery the target (themselves) then heal when they end their activation. Being minions, Lucius can order them to follow him so he can keep on getting refunds. Given his good cache, he can probably rely on the stones he comes with and rock up with a fully spent 50ss in a game. Skeeter would be gremlin shorthand for something like moskeeter/mosquito. Sadly they would be in Diptera as Malifaux has close-but-not-quite similarities, the Slate Ridge Mauler being one of those.
  23. Here ya go There's also a Malifaux musing for the Neverborn though I can't remember the link. Sorta glanced over it, but apparently only the will-o-wisps (glowy bum skull fairies) aren't fae
  24. From the Mother of Monsters box, I'd stick Obsidian Talons on Barbaros, as everything in her box have a built-in so upon flipping a second mask, you can cheat that damage flip if you're on a negative. Given how often that comes up, you can really lay down the hurt. Wicked Mistress pairs well with Living Blade, as if any model ends that push within 1" of Lily, she gets a free attack. Not only that, but the model is now in black blood range. Beckon Malifaux is good, as Lilith can charge through the markers without penalty and having access to two 0 actions is nice, especially if near her totem. Generally I'll take Living Blade, Wicked Mistress and Beckon Malifaux, as already said Lillith works well with her own upgrades. Hope this helps!
  25. Seconding Kirby, the proposed buffs don't make me want to put the mentioned models into a list any more than they already do. These are just my opinion/thoughts on the buffs/cuddles. In the interest of disclosure, I'm incredibly leery of making models more competitive in the name of balance. I've yet to find a home for Candy as I don't take her with Pandora, due to her cost. Making sorrows Wk4 is dumb, sorry. Their main method of movement is through MLC; sure you need models for it to work, but if they're activated later they should have plenty of stopping points to move into position. I can see how Wk4 enables them to have the range for scheme marker placement, but given how fragile they are they might not survive long if an opponent figures out what they're doing. For sorrows, I'd really like to see some kind of tweak- 5ss seems too much, though 4ss feels too cheap. Not going to argue regarding an increase to Df, though maybe an extra wound instead would be better suited? When using Dora, I try to find a spot for one or two, though the cost puts me off using all three. They are good enough minions for public demonstration, provided there's a suitable distraction and can run other schemes well enough. Angel eyes doesn't really need nimble- her role is to hang back and shoot into engagements. She's got a good long range weapon with decent damage and a nice 0 action to deter anyone trying to engage her. Additionally, the scion gains to all flips barring damage once he's down to 6 or less wounds, so getting boosts to attack, Df and Wp flips is handy. Given one of his attack triggers, he can heal back up. All in all, the starter box models are quite solid and a buff/tweak would feel unnecessary for any of them. I'd argue Nekima does not need cuddling as she's 13ss, 15 if you take True Mother. A list with Nekima would have to be built around her given her cost and as she's very eggs-in-one-basket, she better damn well be good at gibbing mooks. Blood for blood is to go with her upgrade, to kill things with black blood for the tot summons/grow kills-counts-as. It's situational, though if she gets mobbed it's a nice way to not have to use AP on quite weakened enemies. Again, these are my thoughts but I don't think many models need tweaks.
