  1. Howdy all, Even though I planned on taking a little break from running events this year due to the arrival of my tiny tyrant, I couldn't pass up the chance to take the previous world cup slot. While it won't be the world cup I will try to make it particularly awesome.

The event will be a 5 round two day event held at Element Games Stockport and tickets will be £30 (send via PayPal as F&F to carl7lee@hotmail.com). Malibingo will be making its return and will add a little bit of extra fun to each round. There will be a raffle and once again I will be aiming to have a big prize to raise as much money as possible for charity.

Expect all of the usual staples of an event ran by me - trophies, BiF, swag, best painted (TBA) and a prize for last place. As the event grows I will open up further recognition for 'challenges' for those who want something a bit different. I am also just clearing with Element the use of the venue after the first days gaming for an evening social that will include a quiz, use of their bar and food to suit.

I will track the attendees here, we have an initial 32 slots to fill but can increase as demand requires. I will provide a rules pack soon as well as a little bit of background to the theme of the event and what that means for those in Malifaux. The event will be ranked, 50ss fixed faction and places are available now.

Thanks :) I've played M1E and M2E extensively, but only recently been getting back into 3rd edition after a long break. I've still got a good collection of models to choose from (pretty much the entire Arcanist faction as of the end of M2E), so should be okay there thank you. I'm in Lancaster, so will see if I can make it and let you know?

It'll be good to have you down mate, I remember you attending a few of the previous ones and pretty sure I recall seeing you at the T&G TEZ event the other year so it'll definitely be good to see you back flipping cards :)

I could be interested 🙂 What time does it start and finish please, and is it suitable for someone who last played maybe at the end of M2E 😇

Previous iterations this event have seen it run from about 9:30-6 but I will let Dan confirm (he is covering for me while I am on new dad leave haha). The event brings together a mixture of player experience levels so you will see some highly experienced players attend but also some people who have had a hiatus from the game or are relatively new. Also because the matchmaking is swiss then you will (after round 1) pair with a similar result.

    Hope that helps

  4. Good morning all,

To get everybody in the swing of all things Faux we are running a casual league at Element Games in Stockport. We already have a regular club night each Wednesday but are planning this to add a little spice in the mix.

The goal of the league is to get people regularly playing and continue to build the local community and spirit we have at Element Games.

Ideally each player will play 2 games per month and it will not be tied to the weekly club night but can be arranged whenever suits. There will be non-playing orientated goals that will award additional league points etc to add fun elements to the league and encourage different things. Think of it as Malifaux Bingo.

Scoring will be 2 points per win, 1 point per draw and 0 points for a loss. The fixtures will be announced mid-January and each fixture will have an encounter tied to it. There will be some wiggle room for those who don't manage to get their game in but ideally the two week period will be enough. Depending on participants the league may get split to keep it reasonably short and sweet.

If you are not a part of the North West Malifolks discord please reach out for the join code - I will also update the confirmed players here and publish a full rules list / achievements list shortly.

I am also going to reach out to Wyrd for some prize support and the league will be free to enter.

    Any questions just ask :)

  5. Just to chime in a little based on my attendance last year and what I see as improvements for this years offering while also touching on what some others have said.

Pairings - This has been critiqued on numerous occasions pre and post event and will be changed that it will be changed for the next event. Clearly the previous incarnation gave an advantage hence the revision.

Slow play - This is a very contentious topic and something that chess clocks does address. I also totally get the connotations that being named 'Malifaux World Cup' brings with it. Personally I would be more than happy to see chess clocks used in the event purely to remove the need to have the slow play conversation or the negative feeling that facing a slow opponent brings. It is a large number of clocks to acquire but if it is common internationally already and becoming more popular in the UK then it may be that players can supply the need.

Encounters - I think the encounters in advance could be beneficial as it will speed up the pairing process if the teams want to be better prepared. It puts the onus on them.

Expectations - This comment essentially goes hand in hand with the connotations the name brings - a lot of UK based players and teams can treat teams as a social event due to a lesser cost implication and locality of it, where as our international attendees are likely having to stump up more to attend and are therefore attach a premium competitive experience tag to it. It should be somewhere in the middle with a high level competitive experience blended in good natured competitive spirit and promoting as such may weed out some of the 'bad actors' previously mentioned in the thread.

Just some of my thoughts as a TO, an attendee of the previous event (and the ITC when that was a thing) and an individual who wants to see this event thrive as the foundations are there to provide a truly unique event that brings the community together in a positive way.

  7. Good afternoon Fauxers,

A quick update - both events so far at Element this year have sold out and I am really hoping that this one does as well.

If you plan on attending what can you expect?

Swag - every event I run has a swag gift for each player, the single day events have so far had event colour themed tokens, for this weekend event I have something really nice planned for the attendees. Keep your eyes peeled.

Prizes - Wyrd have supported my events so far this year and have committed to do so with this event. I am hoping to get confirmation of the items being on their way soon and when they arrive I will share the goodies. These will be raffled off as normal (skewed raffle) with tickets being earned through play and painting (these will be detailed in the rulespack) as well as being able to be purchased with all money going to charity.

Best in Faction - The return of this went down well with players at my last event and for this I have a great idea - watch this space.

Social - As it is a weekend I will be planning something for the Saturday evening, more on this soon.

Let's get some great numbers and show the community that the North West can kick ass when it comes to weekend events.
