  1. As in the other thread, I'll note that I wouldn't of course bring all that support to make it work! Rather, I'd consider including an otherwise-almost-good-enough Terrifying model, rather than (say) another support model like Guild Marshal or something. Emissary would be in there mostly for his other really good abilities (aka boxing and copying Frank!) And Perdita would usually be killing stuff, but now and then, Paralyzing something for 1 AP is awesome. So is obeying Frank to Enfrentate so he can Flurry. So is Obeying Emissary so he can box/unbox on the same turn. Etc. Put simply it's one more powerful tool in the toolkit, if you can fit it in without disrupting the Crew build.
  2. An option for Terrifying that might be compelling in a matchup vs. Undead would be Judge + Flames of the Pit, or perhaps Lone Marshal. However truthfully Ressers are one of the factions I would find least compelling to Paralyze unless I could catch a Henchman or high-SS Enforcer out. The much more interesting targets for Obey->Paralyze would be things like Mech Rider, that are hard to bring down and really expensive, and for that I'd have to use something with Terrifying(All) like the Wrath model (sad face). So, still on the lookout for the right source of Terrifying to make this click!
  3. I posted a thread about trying to really abuse this using Perdita plus the Emissary for free Masks on the Obey, but the problem is trying to find a good fit for a Terrifying model! The Peacekeeper works okay but is very expensive. About the best I could come up with is vs. Undead, using Lone Marshal or the Judge with Flames of the Pit. None of these are really a natural fit in most Perdita crews, sadly. I'm still on the lookout for a good build that can include this mechanic because it's obviously very powerful to Paralyze a model for 1AP at Ca7!
  4. Yes. You can even cheat to force them to lose the horror duel.
  5. RB: I realize we can take Disrupt on e.g. a Henchman, but that still leaves 3 others that are better than Mask, and actually I find I don't have a lot of room for upgrades in my Sonnia crews anyway, as Frank usually carries Wade In and Hermanos, etc. Ludvig: one comment on your consideration of the ability: I think it's not about doing a little more damage with Burning. I think it's about keeping a beacon with burning condition from one turn to the next, for use in targeting Sonnia's attacks. The way I would see using it would be activate Sonnia near end of turn, blast in burning, blast again or raise a flame wall, and then put everburning on a target with a lot of wounds left. Start of next turn, Sonnia gets to blast again without worrying about cover or LoS on her first shot. I find that pretty tempting because the first blast with her each turn can be tough to get after cover and LoS considerations... you really need that first shot to be cheatable damage-wise so you can go moderate or severe. I mean people spend 13 points for Papa Box largely to get that [+] damage flip on Sonnia, and removing hard cover has a better effect! So for that reason I've considered it, but still can't justify it over the others It also would work really really well with Purifying Flame, as he could get burning going early game, and with Everburning, be a constant threat to run in and provide a beacon, without spending an AP to do it it later turns.
  6. I've tried it on Abuela, which I chose because 1) she's relatively short ranged already 2) she has that Play Nice ability which means you can put her in the midst of a group of enemies and be somewhat safer and 3) as a (2) action I thought it would work well with "roll me closer" to position her for good effect, especially if she's pushing into engage range and can't use her gun. The drawback I found with using her was that she doesn't have Companion, so you need someone with Accomplice to do it, or else it's hard to get off before she's killed. Brutal Effigy already wants to do his FNtS (0) action most turns, but he's an option if he doesn't need to FNtS that turn. The other way I thought of is to use Abuela's (0) Obey action to have the Nephilim Shackle her into position, and then do Tormenta. Neither really seems ideal since it's likely she's your farthest-forward model so Shackle is hard to line up for pushing her into the midst of the enemy.
  7. I never find The Mask (Everburning upgrade) makes the cut because Counterspell Aura, Cherufe's Imprint (flame wall), Reincarnation (summon Stalkers) and Disrupt Magic are so good. I'd love to have the ability in her arsenal, I just don't see how to NOT take 3 of the above 4.
  8. I think that's what PullMyFinger is for; the esteemed authors of the useful replies to these "getting started" threads should really jump over there and add their expertise!!
  9. I'm finding that I take almost the same base team for almost every SnS with Perdita, maybe with a few exceptions for unusual opponents: Perdita + Aura, Trick Shooting, maybe Os Veo Francisco + Wade In, maybe Diestro 2 Austringers Brutal Effigy (to keep 'dita alive) After those picks it's usually Nephilim, Watchers, maybe Nino, sometimes a Pathfinder, rarely Emissary, Sidir or a Peacekeeper or Lone Marshal. But the core status almost the same for me. Curious what your guys' usual "core" is?
  10. Yes that was my mistake, I play it the same way as you and only meant that if you're attacking a single model you get 1 heal and at best 1 card with FNtS. Again though, the main reason to use the Sonnia attack on the Flame is the card draw; the heal is secondary and more situational. The card draw is IMO the more powerful move, and game-winning in the right scenario (e.g. the one I gave prior).
  11. So just as an update: I tried the build with Papa + Death Marshall on top of a Perdita + Emissary crew and just didn't feel like it worked well... too much lost activation, too much focus on making Perdita even killier, not enough active support (e.g. no room for 2x Austringers or Watchers). So yeah, still not a believer in that build. And separately, I still haven't found a compelling Terrifying source to make the Perdita + Emissary Obey->Paralyze available, except possibly Lone Marshal vs. Undead (have yet to try it but the rest just fail even on paper). Bummer because it's potentially very powerful. I'm hoping Wyrd releases a new model with Terrifying and I can revisit at some point down the line. In fact, unless I can figure out a build with a Terrifying source, I'm going to start running the generic Emissary upgrade with Perdita and see if his boost to the Austringers (and any other Minions that want to hang back and shoot with them), plus copying their amazing attack, is a compelling option!
  12. 100% agree. The only time I look at LJ is in some instance where her Pulse powers (Justice Unleashed or maybe Restore Natural Order) are going to be game breaking (e.g. possibly vs. Ressers on a Strat like Turf War). I think her ability to charge without LoS is also under-appreciated in general, but for the most part it's just too easy for a good opponent to tar pit her and keep her busy killing junk models, instead of completing vital tasks. So yeah, what Myyra said
  13. I'm confused... Brutal Effigy's "Fear Not the Sword" gives you *one* card if you kill an enemy, and a max of *one* heal per AP. This trick gives you as many as 3 cards (1 for built in Ram, 1 for the Ram cheat, and 1 for a SS if you wish) for 1 AP and dealing 1 damage to the Flame. Drawing 3 cards is a very powerful thing to do for 1 AP, and it's already won me more than one game, to use 2 low Ram cards (all I was holding) to have Sonnia draw 5 cards (I got good ones on the first AP so didn't use a SS for the second whack), put up her flame wall, and use those 5 cards to have Francisco activate last and kill a Nekima that was in the midst of my crew (with Flame suppressing Nekima's SS use, btw). In this same situation, Sonnia with Fear Not the Sword on her would have had to discard the two low Rams to get 9 Ca, and hope to flip high enough to hit Nekima, and without damage cheats, it's very unlikely she could have killed Nekima, certainly not without putting herself in 3" to suppress SS (which exposes her to Nekima's 3 counterattacks). This situation is just one example, meant to show that FNtS and Sonnia's Ml attack and Ram trigger are not apples to apples.
  14. It's been much easier for me to kill Pandora with Sonnia thanks to Dampening (either Sonnia or Flame) locking down that damage prevention. And Sonnia's wall can block Pandora from pushing out of range/LoS. And Sonnia can so easily drop the support staff efficiently (using fewer AP than Perdita). Quite possibly I'm playing Perdita wrong in this matchup, but I don't see how she's a hard counter for a Master who can SS Dmg Prevent at +1, and then Push 4" to cover or out of sight against Perdita's first shot! Pandora needs to win the duel if I am not mistaken so as long as you make sure you hit she isn't pushing anywhere even if you do 0 damage. Yes that's true, she doesn't get to dodge out of the way until you miss once, so trying to destroy Pandora's cheat hand by attacking lower Df models with Austringers before going after her sure helps. But I think it's a lot easier for Pandora to hold one good Wp cheat back, than it is to line up several successful attack cheats. If you win and don't cheat, she cheats out of the way and you don't get to shoot again. If you lose and don't cheat a 13, same result. If you win and cheat a 13, then okay you get to hit once before repeating the same thing next shot. I dunno, seems like I have to entrap her to kill her off, but we play with a *lot* of blocking terrain, so that could be the culprit.
