  1. As a prospective player, without any knowledge of Wyrd's prior business practices, or without any accumulated goodwill, I don't think the DMH masters will actually be balanced or allowed, otherwise why bother saying you can't use them in tournaments. It sounds like a big fat lie designed to keep people thinking the best until the're ready to pull the rug out from under all the people who made purchases between now and then. I left a company (games workshop) that made games and decided to invalidate models. I won't take that risk again.
  2. That's a very misleading thing to say. If competitive play is to complicated right now, then they could use the new edition to simplify the models, to reduce unique rules on models, and keep them all still playable. As a player who was just about to buy in. I'm not going to now. I'm not wasting my money. Maybe in a few years I'll check back.
  3. Thanks, I was looking, and it turns out I need to get the errattaed version of my Ortega's anyway, so I was about to make an order there, when it dawned on me. What about the upgrade cards? are there more upgrade cards available somewhere? is there somewhere I can get all the upgrade cards available for all of guild?
  4. Hey there, so I'm super new to the game, and just got my first real purchases in. I had a few questions, and wanted some advice. I just bought some secondhand models, but they have no cards. How- where can I get cards for them? Also, I picked up the Latigo posse box as my starter, and it's destroying all my friends... I'm starting to get some looks, I'm sure it's cause were all new and my box seems to shoot crazy good, but I was wondering if the mismatch is as bad as It looks? would playing gg2017 even things out? One friend has the lady J box, plus an extra box of deathmarshals, he wants to sell. would that be a good pick up for me to get? Also, Here's all the models I have, Any synergies or good lists? any holes I should plug/next purchases? The Latigo Posse McCabe Mounted McCabe unmounted 3 wastrels Sidir Archibal Luna 1 Guild Trapper 4 Traps 3 Guild Riflemen Pale Rider Ryle Hunter 2 Guild Hounds 1 Guardian 1 watcher
  5. I have to say, as a new player, with 15+ years of wargaming experience, Malifaux isn't as easy to get into as I'd like. I struggled to find any comprehensive model images overview. I'm having a hard time learning about the factions, and the characters within. Ultimatley I impulse purchased the box I did, which is super rare for me. Honestly, I'm still kinda lost. I got a digital rules manual, so hopefully there's some stuff in there. Also, is there like a scheemes deck or print out? I played a game and flipping the book to check on them was awful. Also with guild, any suggestions on where to go from the Ortega box?
  6. Ok, thanks again everyone! I've jumped in, picked up the perdita Ortega box. Guild it is!
  7. Thanks to everyone for helping answer some questions. I'm downloading that netcast now jerhien. It's not the right place, but let me thank you for the work you did as part of the "gang" It meant alot to people like me, I'm sorry PP failed to recognize your value. I'm super excited to discover balance seems to be really good. I hate feeling like I'm competitively behind due to faction choice. As a result, I end up playing top tier stuff, not because I'm looking for an advantage, but rather I'm looking for a lack of a disadvantage. Is there anywhere to go to get a look at the full model line? I'm kinda trying to probe the aesthetics of the various factions and finding it difficult. I'm a bit interested in the Gremlins, I have a soft spot for many of their silly models. I'm concerned that they mention how random they are though, are they any good competitively? I guess for those that know, I'm wondering if they are "random" like Trollbloods tough, or like Orks where you win or lose based on dice rolls? I feel confident that if I can competitively play that pigapult I found my faction. Otherwise, I'll keep looking. Oh, also I wanted to know about decks and shuffling etiquette? I came from Magic, where cheating and deck stacking was rampant. is anything done to combat that in tournaments and the like?
  8. So, I almost started this game about a year and a half ago. But since I'm not very happy with my current game (warmachine) do to some balance issues and a change in the company philosophy I'm looking for a new miniatures game. My #1-10 concerns are about balance. I enjoy many games, but I'm a competitive person, and as such demand a game that I can actively try to break and it will still be ok. It's in my DNA, I look at rules and try to break them. If There's not a reasonable amount of balance between factions, and masters I'll just find another game. Though, I have high hopes for malifaux. I love the idea that you build your crew after knowing schemes and opponents faction. Basicly what I want to know is what's op, what's bad, and what is actually being used to win tournament games? Anything to avoid? What's the top of the curve, and how far ahead is it? I'm super excited to be playing something new, I've played warmachine for 8 years.
  9. Hello all! I'm just getting started, as in I own nothing, and am drawn towards outcasts. What if any purchases are good to get started with? Are the crew boxes good deals? Is there any models that are too situational and I should avoid? Also, If I start with Leveticus, what would be the best starting purchases? I'm also trying to track down what I need from a fate deck, mini rulebook, etc.. Are all the different decks the same? What master would pair with Leveticus well? or rather what masters are required to play competitivley( even if that's not levi). Likewise, what models am I going to need for tournaments? Also, more of a modeling thing, any ideas for cool bases? I want to really make my bases "pop" since I'm not used to having so few mini's on teh table. ( I play warmachine competitivley)
  10. So, I'm looking to buy into this game. and I'm having a very hard time figuring out where to get the Small rules book? I've found the 1ed version on ebay, but can't seem to locate the 2ed one.
  11. Hello! I just played two demo's of malifaux, both using lady J's box, and love the game. I'm definatley starting and am trying to figure out the least painful way of doing so. For a little background, I'm a very competitive warmachine player. I love that game due to it's tight rules,a nd very good balance. I hear some pretty good things about Malifaux 2.0 in that regard as well. So I have a few questions that I'm looking for veteran experience on. What do I NEED to play? Rules, dice, arsenal, tokens, measuring widgets, objectives? anything like that? Is there a small rulebook available? What's a good way of getting a starting crew? Is there any kind of digital program for managing crews and playing games? for those familiar I love warroom. My next question is probably the most in depth one, and ultimatley the most important to me as a new player. What's the balance like? AKA what masters and crews win the tournaments, and why? I'll probably branch out eventually, after I better understand the system and it's balance, but to start with, I want to make sure I'm picking up models that I will use often, and will be good at the (theoretical) highest level of play. I'm hearing Leveticus is a top tier and versatile master, and I Am very interested in him. Ultimatley though, I love all the models, and would probably be happy with whatever I feel gives me a competitive edge. Also, any good podcasts? I love Warmachine podcasts, and could really get into malifaux better with more immersion. Feel free to ask me any follow up questions that might help you answer my questions.
