  1. Kinda mixed. It was his first time playing Brewie 2 and so he lost track of a lot of things (I wound up playing Ivan 1 due to it being Cloak and Dagger). So unfortunately, it wasn't really a good learning experience as it was so all over the place.
  2. Hey folks, I have a game against Tri-Chi coming up (strata and schemes undetermined as of yet) and I was wondering if I could get some advice regarding how to deal with them. I will be playing Bygone as that is what I am currently focusing on (though I have access to a number of other keywords and all the versatiles). Brewie one isn't so bad as a lot of the Bygone keyword is good into her, however I am at a loss with Brewie 2. I know staggered will help so maybe just hold back and let Tiri nuke for a bit? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
  3. Hey again, a little off topic (I wasn't sure if I should start a separate thread for this, so my apologies if this is the wrong place) but I'm just looking for a little advice regarding my upcoming first games: 1: I plan to start out with some hardcore henchmen games and I was wondering if I should change my list (I currently have the Maxine Core box, the Explorer's Society Core box, and the Off The Deep End box): Leader: Kiya Manimi Hires: Machinist Calypso Mk II Dr. Beebe 3ss Left 2: I think I understand how he works, but what is the best way to utilize Dr. Beebe and Calypso? Like should he start the game piloting it? Are there instances where I want to deploy them separately? 3: I believe my opponents will be running one of the following keywords: Marshal, Honeypot, and Last Blossom. Any thoughts on what I should prepare for? 4: Finally, I do want to expand further into ES masters and I was wondering which keyword/master would make a good second master to cover the schemes and strategies that EVS is poor at? Thanks!
  4. Hey all, looking to get back into the game and I have landed upon Maxine (mostly because I love her lore). Anyway, weird question, but I recently ordered her core pack and I am planning how I want to build/paint her, and I was wondering if anyone had ideas on how to base her (and the EVS keyword)? I was thinking a ship deck, but then I realized there is no description of what kind of ship she has (that I am aware of), only that it is old even for the early 1900s. Would it have a wooden deck or a metal one? Anyone have any decent sites for premade resin bases? Am I overthinking this? Thanks!
  5. Ramos? For some reason I kept hearing that his box required a lot of upgrades to be decent. The more you know... Oh I forgot how few soulstones Lynch's box contained due to the Hungering Darkness being so cheap. Ah well. Titanic does seem really cool but maybe a little too complex for my fragile, returning to the game mind. I was hoping to get into the playing aspect quickly, but maybe, because it appears that getting to 50ss is more difficult than I expected, I should just take things a little slower? How easy is it to build up Collodi?
  6. So I am looking to get back into the game (I started a couple of years ago but painted myself into a hole with an overly ambitious project which killed my enthusiasm), however, since my budget is a little limited at the moment, I am hoping to keep my purchases rather light. Thus, I am asking you good folks which crew boxes require the least amount of additional purchases to get to 50ss and still be semi competitive/fun. I am currently most interested in Neverborn (Collodi and Lynch) due to the interesting painting opportunities, however, I am still open to other suggestions. Thanks!
  7. Oh wow. That makes a ton of sense. Looks like I will have to go buy some more models (as I don't have any sprues left lol).
  8. @1: Wait, part of the sprue? How does that work? Is it really thin enough or are you chopping it up to be thin enough? I normally use paperclips (or my wife has some old jewelry making supplies) but even those are too big for a couple of the models. I think the jackalope will be fine without pinning (it has two points of contact) but the torakage standing on one foot really needs it. @2: Thanks Math! That is perfect! @3: Ok I will find a play mat then. I have a lego castle (epic nostalgia impulse purchase) that I can use for terrain, the mat will just make setup faster/easier. @4: Oh wow, this game is a lot longer than I expected. Still, I feel less awkward postponing the game until later as it takes up far less space than warhammer. @5: Thanks, just being a noob @6: I can't stand the flavor of McCabe. I have no idea why. When researching the game, he was the first Master that I noticed that I had no desire to play with. Zoraida seems pretty cool. I will look into that. It is too bad that the 10 thunders don't have more boxed crews as I could just get one for each of us and be done with it for a bit. Thanks thus far!!!
  9. So my wife had our first official game (one where no one else was around to guide us) and we had a blast! In order to continue delving into the game, I would appreciate having some questions answered: 1: I am using secret weapon miniatures bases for both my Marcus crew and my wife's Misaki crew. Since they are resin, I have been told that I absolutely need to pin the models to them (I guess super glue doesn't get them to stick quite as well). However, I cannot find small enough metal rods in order to pin things like my Jackalope (I removed him from the head he is sitting on) and my wife's Torakage. Any thoughts on where I could find such small rods? 2: So I was planning on following this guide for my Marcus bases: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2012/06/making-wood-themed-bases-is-easy-to-do.html. However, secret weapon has stopped offering the brown leaves (in my opinion) the most important part of the bases. Anyone know where I could purchase some or where I could find a guide to making brown leaves (preferably with images-I am a visual person)? 3: How much space does a single terraclips box cover? Are terraclips even worthwhile? Would it be better to just buy a playmat? Any suggestions on malifaux playmats? 4: What is the average game lengths for 25ss and 50ss games? We were only doing a 25ss game and it still took forever (because we are very new). I am just curious as to what we should be striving for. 5: How many scheme markers can a model place per activation? I seem to recall hearing about only 1 but I can't find that anywhere and so I am pretty sure I just made that up. 6: I was considering picking up one more crew for my wife and I to swap between just to shake things up. Any thoughts on a master that is both pretty different strategically when compared to misaki and marcus and who doesn't make games lopsided? I know the obvious pick would be Mei Fang, but I was hoping for something a little more interesting. I know that is a lot and it is a bit all over the place so thanks for bearing with me.
  10. That was great thanks so much! Any recommendations on what to use for drilling the holes? I used to have a drill+bits from GW ages and ages ago, but I have no idea where it went (or if it is even a worthwhile product).
  11. Just a couple of questions: First, since I was planning on making some more complex bases (http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2012/06/making-wood-themed-bases-is-easy-to-do.html), should I not glue the models to the base before sanding and all that stuff? If I do so, will the models not stick as well to the base? Will I risk the model falling off? Second, I was just wondering what everyone does for varnish. I have had a horrible time with varnishes in the past: the citadel matte spray was decent but ruined any metallics I used. The citadel shiny liquid varnish remained sticky for some reason (and I want to avoid shine for the models I am currently working on). Then I bought some art store liquid varnish but it made the model look slimy. Any suggestions on varnish? What do I do when I want matte and shine varnish on one model? Do you varnish the base? Noobie questions I know, but I haven't painted in ages. Thanks!
  12. While I have yet to do it, my plan was to base each crew within its own theme, but then paint the lip the color associated with the faction. This way they both maintain their own personality (which I think is most important with Arcanists considering they are rather all over the place) and are also tied in with the rest of the faction.
  13. Basing wise (because I do feel that unified basing is the best way to create any sort of cohesiveness within the factions), I think maybe we should see what else is taken and work from there: Guild: would make most sense to go with a sort of "ghost town" theme as the Guild is usually the ones trying to expand their influence from the heart of Malifaux outward. Additionally, they have the whole "desperado" theme going on which just really works well. Cobblestone/road bases would work too, but I think they would look better on something further from civilization/more cowboyesque. Ress: graveyard. Only Seamus feels a little off in this regard, but it still works. Sewers might work too. Neverborn: definitely sewers, as I am pretty sure they are the best way for Neverborn to move around in the city. I could also see maybe some sort of barren wasteland with purple hues to show their otherness. Ten Thunders: I dig the zen bases what with the asian theme and all, though I would make it more subtle and keep the base somewhat in line with whichever faction the leader is trying to hide in. Outcasts: Not Sure, probably Badlands type thing, as they seem to be the ones who do the really hard out of the way stuff. Gremlins: Bayou or ghost town, though I like the Bayou more due to piggies. So what does that leave the arcanists? Since the leaders are all very spread out (Mountains for Raspy, Wilds for Marcus, etc.), the best option would be to base them in the place that they would most likely gather/battle together as any battle that took place on their home turf would most likely be fought with minions indigenous to that area. So I think the best way to make them look cohesive would be to base them on cracked cobblestones/roads, the city centers closer to the guild controlled areas of Malifaux that might prove useful for future disruption. I have been struggling with how to base my Marcus crew for a while (I really don't like the idea of going with the trend of putting his crew on "Wilds" bases), so any thoughts on the above would be great!
  14. I am in Portland, OR, USA, and there are a couple of stores that do hold Malifaux nights. The only problem is that most of them are on days that I work. I will see if I can make it to any of them. Update time: so the plastic cement that I ordered arrived and I just put together the cereberus. It wasn't too bad though, I will definitely need to pick up some more liquid green stuff to fill in/smooth out a few areas. One question for you all, what sort of basing have you seen for Marcus crews? I really like the inserts that Wyrd makes, however, none of them (from what I can tell) really fit with the Marcus crew theme, so what would make sense fluff wise in terms of basing things? Where are these animals coming from? Does Marcus just stroll into town with them in tow? I just don't want it to look awkward (Marcus in an Orphanage...). EDIT: The Razorspine Rattler was horrible to put together. I dont think it will look too bad but I am not pleased with it.
  15. Update time. Today is my birthday and since no one is around (my wife has work), I decided to just go and pick up the Marcus crew. I just washed the sprues and am now clipping and filing the various pieces. What is everyone's thoughts on glue? I have used plastic glue in the past and on hot days my models totally fell apart so I am currently using Slo-Zap glue. Basically, is there any real difference between gamesworkshop plastic miniatures and Wyrd miniatures such that I would need to do anything different when assembling them?
