  1. You often see rows of cypress trees in graveyards, so that could be a good option for some soft cover. Seems like they'd be easy to make and you could malifaux them up with some spikes and tentacles hidden in a few of them.

Cypress trees are used in the cemeteries of Rome because they point toward Heaven. Cemeteries are placed outside city limit… | Cypress trees, Cemeteries, Graveyard

  2. Agree with Omenbringer. Have looked at a lot of water diorama videos and 90% of selling it is the underpainting and adding stuff like ripples and foam.

Depending on how deep you want the canals you could use something like mod podge or gloss gel medium in a lot of thin layers. Takes ages but you don't have to mess around with epoxy and can add texture and stuff as you go.

This community is all about sharing and helping others so I don't think anyone would have an issue with such question ;) i'd only suggest asking more specific questions, e.g. about painting skin, material, freehand, basing techniques - that way you should get answers that could help you get more concrete details :)

I think I'll try to add this lot to my September pledge, let's see how it goes.

Looking forward to seeing the little scribe dude finished. One of my favourite sculpts ever.
