  1. Thanks everyone, glad that's cleared up and I can charge and destroy those traps guarding objectives early in the game. Apologies Solkan, I meant 'retaliatory' in the sense that it would be in reaction to an enemy MI action
  2. So I was playing against some rather pesky traps the other day and the timing of their retaliatory attacks occurs when charging them came up. The text states the attack happens "after the action is resolved". Charging I take to mean as a single AP2 action, so the trap attacks after both MI actions are complete, am I interpreting this right? I managed to kill the trap so got no attack back but wasn't convinced. I guess in fluff terms this could represent a determined guy disarming a trap and if they aren't fast enough then they get bitten. Any thoughts welcome, after my opponent's success with traps I'm going to be seeing a lot of them!
  3. Looks good so far, is it the monotone that you don't like? You've got some nice transitions going on, you could easily add glaze to small areas like the gloves/belt, maybe a brown to make the colours a bit warmer and maybe a midtone blue to the front of his jacket?
  4. As a new player trying to convert his group of friends to the fun that is M2E I think you'd lose a lot of people if you didn't add fate decks. The suit conversion from normal cards to malifaux already took too much effort (although the card mechanic itself is a BIG plus to newbs who aren't so into war games). Suit conversions and so many tables spread all over the big rule book really stilts the game with too many pauses needed for clarification. Once people get the core rules though you generally find they are playing without needing any input for the majority of the time but getting over that initial barrier is the tricky part. To make it even simpler the starter set needs a reference table so so badly and proper fate decks. I had to write out 4 pages of A4 just to get the basics like fate modifiers into an easy referenced format to explain before starting the game.
  5. This also. I've just started getting into Malifaux and for me the easiest thing would have been to pick up a rule book, 2 fate decks and some tokens in one box. If enough crews were in stock at the shop I would pick 2 up I liked the look of, as anyone who sells them should know all the crew boxes can be used straight out of the box and I'd be ready to go. Instead the only local shop that stocks M2E just had the rule book and so I had to order everything else separately online (and 2 weeks later I still only have the rule book). I would impulse buy anything that had everything needed to play a basic game (even without figures) just for convenience and if there was a saving even better! As a 40k player I'm used to high prices and I'm well trained in impulse buys so I don't think any starter box like the ones suggested would have a hard time selling. As a cheaper game than 40k I presume newer players are very valuable the Wyrd seeing as new players generally have higher spends when starting up. If there were crews included I would pick something with dual factions, I've ordered the Mei Feng and Claw and Fang sets to use as demo crews and to give me flexibility later on, so either share with a friend and get 1 small crew each or get 1 bigger crew for 1 person?
  6. Vallejo has become my go to paint in the last 3 months, partly because of their model air range which I got for my new airbrush. The dropper style bottles also make colour matching/ mixing much easier especially as my GW sets get outdated every year it feels leaving me to fix whatever I hadn't finished if I run out of old colours. Vallejo isn't the only brand to use droppers but for their wide range of colours and versatility I would say they are the best out there.
  7. Thanks guys, that was really helpful =) That is pretty much how I played it in the game otherwise it would have taken out half a crew in one hit so I thought it would have been slightly too powerful! Really liking the balance of this game so far compared to other systems =)
  8. Hi all I'm very new to the game and whilst playing with Rasputina the other day we came across something we weren't quite sure about, Rasputina got off December's curse and got severe damage, giving her target (Fuhatso) 5 damage (not taking armour etc into account here), it then generated 2 blasts, the first of which hit a nearby rail worker, as the damage is one step lower it did a 4 damage and then should it generate another blast damage and if so could this hurt Fuhatso (presumably this would cause 2 damage)? The second blast from the original attack hit nothing if that makes a difference. It was confusing mainly because it doesn't seem as if the original target gets damaged again (page 50 M2E A4, last paragraph). I read this to mean the blast part of the moderate damage is ignored when stepping down damage for blasts. Cheers!
  9. I'll be in Cottingham (Hull), UK from 9th August =)
  10. Hi Tigerstyle, awesome, I'm in York quite often as most of my family/ friends live around there so I'll be sure to drop by once I've got mt crews! =)
  11. If you want a chilled, fun and interactive painting vlog/ live show then check out Way of the Brush, Kris does great demos and goes through everything from the beginning. His colour wheel rants are also very amusing! Watching an episode really helps get me motivated to paint and improve my painting. I picked up a lot of bad habits when I was a kid that I just didn't recognise until I watched these! There's a metric ton of stuff over on miniwargaming.com too (where Kris works) some is free and some is subscription only bit I've found is well worth it! Enjoy =)
  12. Hi all, I was introduced to Malifaux in the last few weeks and after my first demo game I went out and bought the A4 2E rules and my first crew boxes are on the way (Starting off with Arcanists and Ten Thunders due to their dual faction options). I'm also into 40k and I played a game or two in Hull at Hulls Angels when I lived in Hull a few years ago but it looks as if this club is no more and I'm not familiar with any other local clubs or any shops that sell Malifaux. I'm moving back to Hull in 2 weeks and I'm looking for any players/ group that meet up either regularly or casually to play. I drive so doesn't necessarily have to be in Hull. Cheers!
