  1. Great idea and it’s looks great. Are you going to build different tops for it?
  2. Dear diary, I have not been working on my quarantine table this month. But I did make a present for my wife's birthday, does it count as terrain building...? On a quarantine game board update, we had our first game on the board (in it's non finished state). It had a real street skirmish feel with models ducking in and out of doorways hugging the sides of the streets for cover. I had always planned on using scatter terrain to block LoS down the roads and this became very evident with long sight lines. But, the back alley ways provided lots of cover for sneaky scheme runners which added some interest to the game. Over all it was a lot of fun to play on, and with some tweaking is a great board.
  3. I'm assuming you want something like this - a Card table side hinge: I've never used them, so can't comment on how good they are, card table hardware usually isn't very robust for heavy weights.
  4. Um, to be perfectly honest, I hadn’t really considered how to get the the other floors. I guess ladders will be the way to go, or maybe some strategically placed rubble and crates.
  5. The three (non-road) sections are removable so that they can be swapped out to vary the layout. I have intentions of doing just plain inserts that will give a flat empty board that can have various scatter pieces added. This was just meant to be a set 'show' layout but I also wanted the houses to be removable for easier storage. @emiba I'll try and get a closer image, The weathering is just a mixture of different acrylic paints heavily watered down and applied randomly. Not really much method to it. The scattered bricks still need to be painted to match the buildings. They stand out a lot more in the photos but white bricks are just a bit to un natural.
  6. I think an update is well overdue. it's time to start adding some groundwork to the boards, gravel and weathering in progress Weathering of the floor boards Completed ground work Test fit of buildings (with basic undercoats of colour)
  7. @Paddywhack A 360 view of each table edge: There's still a few open areas that can be filled with some scatter terrain (rubble piles, crates etc) as well as there will need to be some additional scatter to block the obvious sight lines down the roads. The doors of the warehouses help a little. And finally, the floorboards get laid onto the rubble. Just needs some paint and weathering
  8. So I guess Id better get started on the last section of the board... Any guesses what it could be? I'll put the answer at the end of this post. Additionally I decided to test how the ground floor rubble would look. It still needs some floor boards on those joists, but it's looking good. And now for your answer: Train service shed.
  9. Seems like forever since I was able to work on the board. A few updates: Current status of the table... Construction on the warehouse doors begins I had to make a slight change in direction in regards to the flooring. Originally I was just going to have the buildings free standing, but as they lack any real mass and the terrain is prone to being bumped by hands reaching for models they needed to be more solid. To facilitate this the bases have been magnetised and to give them more of a sense of 'belonging' a new sub floor has been added directly to the board. This will continue to have rubble and floor boards added to it. Finally so close-ups of the details as they sit primed ready for painting and weathering. Suitably shadow figure luring in the alley ways.

  11. I found this article helpful: http://www.barrule.com/blog/what-is-scenery-scale-and-how-big-should-my-doors-be/ my general texchnique is to make a mock up out of cheap cardboard and test a few minis against it to see if it looks right.
  12. Don't mind at all, it's just the hairspray chipping technique. Undercoat with a dark color then hairspray, then the top coat.
  13. Just a little bit of a delay in updates, it's been a slow couple of weeks for terrain building, but... first draft of the warehouse doors with working hinges. I'm not sure if I will make it a single door or double. The single door will make more LoS blocking terrain when it's open on the street so that is my preference for the moment. Fences painted up and weathered. I skipped a step compared to the last ones and the weathering has turned out a bit different. I think I prefer the first ones I've also discovered that lighter paint has a better effect than dark.

  15. Time for a bit of paint. Test paint scheme and weathering on the fence: Front Back Unfortunately I won't be able to make any more fences until I find some more cheap Gel superglue... My usual supplier has run out.
  16. @Burnin' Coal It's not foam board, it's Expanded PVC board. A lot tougher. No risk of them pulling out. If you look carefully in the photo of the piece laying on it's side you can see where i had to pry out a magnet that 'accidentally' got glued in backwards. Took quite a bit of effort to remove.
  17. Yep, 2mm x 1mm rare Earth magnets And as promised, an image of the the refreshed ground work.
  18. Sorry, progress has slowed a little... But finally here is a small update. Building has started on the warehouses. These have been split into their respective floors and magnetized. *Tape for temporary stability as we align magnets Buildings in their positions. We're going to need to add some blocking terrain on the roads to stop those nasty Guild and their long range rifles. The patchwork modular ground looks appalling (in my opinion) which is why I've rebuilt it. There is now a solid MDF board underneath that the buildings will attach to (via magnets). This is currently drying - takes a while in our minus degrees weather but photos to come. It has added extra height to the dirt area so it now sits proud of the pavement, which is not ideal, but bearable. Next up, painting and then adding the weathered wood to the houses, and adding detail to the warehouses. And for the more astute of our viewers you may notice that there is still a rather empty section of the table. There has been a slight deviation from the original plan... #spoilers
  19. I doubt the foam would add much weight as it's mostly air bubbles. You could use styrofoam to fill it and embed a washer or fishing weight in the centre of the foam so that it has no definite bottom.
  20. More updates, Roofing structures are in place, ready for tiling, wall detail added and base layer of ground work added. I had originally thought to make the pieces modular but due to warping of the base card I'm thinking of moving back to the MDF. The original idea was to use a slightly thinner card and then apply ground material so that the final thickness would match the thickness of the sidewalk.
