  1. It also helps if you have access to some out of faction minions to call on, or even some of the Wave2 Arcanist stuff. If you can tie down some of their shooters with Malifaux Raptors or Night Terrors, or Leap over the terrain with Silurids, then you are less likely to get shot in those last few inches.
  2. Hey guys, I'm at my second Malifaux event on Sunday, and as part of the event there are two 35SS Henchman led games. I've not played at this level before, being fairly new to M2E, and I have only collected a Marcus crew so far. I play Malifaux as a second gaming system (being primarily a WFB player) and have stuck rigidly to the fluff so far - my Marcus crew has nothing in it that isn't a Beast. I originally thought that this wouldn't be a problem, as I had plenty of Beasts to choose from, but I've now realized that without Marcus to lead the crew I'll be stuck to just Arcanist Beasts. So, here's the question: If you were running a 35SS crew led by Myranda, and could only choose Arcanist Beasts, what would you choose? I know what the Strategies are going to be, but won't know the Schemes till the day. The first game will be Stake a Claim using standard deployment, the second will be Turf War with close deployment. I know certain things will be better at certain schemes, but with such a limited model choice I was hoping for some generic advice!
  3. As a Marcus player, I just have to say - why are they not Beasts?!?!?!

    Or it's a Jackalope ;-)
  5. Paid up for me and Panzer Harris for the Sunday. Nice to be able to get to an event withing half an hour!
  6. For Marcus specifically, I would recommend the stickied thread in the Arcanists forum. There's a list in that of every Beast from every faction. Aside from that, you're probably better off looking at indivicual cases rather than a complete list. As far as I know (and I know very little!) there are a large number of Masters than can hire models from outside their own faction. A lot of these are the cross-faction Masters, such as the Ten Thunder ones, McMourning and others. Then there are those that like particular types of minions, such as Marcus and Beasts, or Leveticus and Undead/Constructs. Overall there seems to be a fair amount of choice whomever you choose as your Master!
  7. That's probably true. There's a guy at our club who takes Line in the Sand every game with G McM, announces it every game and usually scores 3 from it. Whereas I avoid it with Marcus as I think there are usually ones that are easier to get.
  8. I've always wondered about this - how do regular models get more than 2? I know the Riders build up suits on their cards, but is there a way for Ramos (to continue this example) to get more than the 2 tomes? He'd get one for the card and one on his card (i assume), how would he get a third?

    M2E Marcus

I played another game with Marcus on Monday against Mei Feng. I'm only just learning the game, but I thought I'd share some thoughts on the models I used. Strategy was Reckoning, Schemes were LitS, Deliver the Message, Frame for Murder, Bodyguard and Breakthrough. I decided to try the "big hitters" crew, as there were plenty of schemes that didn't need scheme markers being placed. I picked Deliver the Message and announced it, and Frame for Murder. My crew was: Marcus - Trail of the Gods, Feral Instincts, Hunger Cry (Which I never used) Myranda - Imbued Energies Cojo Rattler Rogue Necro Dawn Serpent (proxied!) Night Terror The Night Terror was the guy I decided to Frame - I hoped that I could get him close to Mei (or Joss, once he showed up!) and that they would kill him easily for the Strategy giving me points. However my opponent saw through that rather easily and the Terror survived the game. He did manage to hold up Joss for a turn though, as he failed to disengage twice. Cojo was run over by a Rail Golem, but with some great defense flips and H2K it took longer than it should have. I also used the Rude Sign Language to bunch up some guys for a strafing run by the Serpent. The Rattler was a non-entity, as it was taken out Turn 1 by a Mei Feng to the face. She hits rather hard from a long way away it seems! The point of the list though, the two big shooter models, were both great. The Dawn Serpent's Call to the Chi was amazing when combined with H2K (and Myranda) as it just would not die! It also managed to kill some Rail Workers with it's shooting, and I can see me using it again - especially in Reckoning. The Rogue Necro wasn't as good, though the Three Headed meant it was consistently getting good hits in, both in melee and from range. I think the lack of Unimpeded may be an issue, as I couldn't advance it into melee as easily as some of the other Beasts, and it meant that I wasn't using it's other Action a lot of the time. I think it is still pretty good though, and with Impossible to Wound it was very good in the Strategy too (an aside for this - combining that with cheating in a 5 stopped him being splatted by Joss in one hit! ) I did miss the usual feeling of out-activating my opponent with this crew, and for schemes that would require some more Interactions then I'd really be missing the extra bodies. For this combination though it seemed like a decent crew and I would consider using all of them again. Hope someone gets something from this!
  10. Well I appear to have bought one successfully! See you all Sunday for my first ever Malifaux event!
  11. Hey there, The first post hasn't been updated for a while it seems, are there any tickets left for this? Graham was saying tonight that he thinks he might have bought the last ones.
  12. Hey all, I've recently started playing Malifaux, and am currently learning by using a Marcus crew. I love all the things he can do with Beasts from various factions, but in looking around at the other Arcanists I'm left a little cold. There isn't really another Arcanist master that I feel I want to play. Whilst I'm happy to be playing with just Marcus at the moment, I feel I'm missing out on some of the fun (& flexibility) of being able to collect and play with an entire faction's worth of models. Looking though the rulebook, I think I've got it narrowed down to a choice between Guild and Outcasts. I'm posting a similar thread in the Guild section, but I was hoping you would be able to give me some general pointers about why I should play Outcasts - what sort of playstyle they can run, what are the really cool figures/rules, what works well with each other, which masters are good for which strats/schemes and so on. I'm going to make this a long term project, as I really like all of the new plastics so I'd want to be buying those instead of the old metals - for this reason Guild is ahead at the moment, though the Viks look amazing! Any ideas you can give me would be gratefully received. Thanks!

    M2E Marcus

I've not used it yet, but I don't really see it as a replacement for a Cerberus. Then again, I'm yet to hire a Cerberus! (Though Myranda usually turns into one for me...) I think if you're going to spend 10ss on something, you're going to want to base your plan around it to some extent. As it's shooting attack is OPActivation, you're going to want to Alpha it to get the most out of it. For me, that would mean probably dropping the RSR, as I find that is what I want to use Alpha on in most games. I may even be tempted to use the Dawn Serpent at the same time and go for an all out shooty crew, but only if facing someone that's going to come at me. (And if the schemes suit it!) I was going to give it a go in my next game, once I have some table time with it I'll report back.
  15. I tend not to use Law of Meat that much, mainly as when Marcus goes in I've left him til last and he won't really be threatened that turn. I do love engaging as many as I can with the Rattler though, so Law of Meat only having one target doesn't quite fit the plan. Maybe if I went after something a bit tougher (Henchman/Enforcer/Master level) with the Rattler then Law of Meat would be a lot more useful.

    M2E Marcus

I tried out a couple of different beasts to my usual ones on Monday night, and I was pleasantly surprised by both the Night Terror and Shikome. I was playing against Von Schill and Viks in a three way game, and I took the Night Terror to try and close down some of the shooting of Von Schill. It actually worked really well, using it's Attracted to Noise to move close, then a double walk to stand next to some sort of sniper model and effectively tie it down for most of the game. My query here is - if I'm using it for this reason is a Malifaux Raptor a better choice? It doesn't rely on someone shooting to get across the field, and has a bigger base size to block more lines of retreat. The Shikome was a lot more subtle, and I'm not 100% sure how to get the best out of it. I liked it's ability to get aroud quickly, and if the target has the Adversary condition it seemed like it would do a huge amount of damage (as long as you don't draw the Black Joker on it! *facepalm*) but getting the condition onto the enemy seems rather tricky. It would work really well hiring two, as you can use one to fly up and Adversary someone, then use the other to attack it, but I'm not really sure how to do it with just one as the condition goes at the end of the turn. Alpha could be an option, but then that's a lot of AP funneled through the Shikome and it could leave the rest of the crew a little isolated. Opinions?

    M2E Marcus

I've just started learning M2E, and I've picked up the Marcus bug too. I've been reading a lot on the Internet about how he works, and I have some ideas I'm looking to try in my first few games. However, I did have one question that I thought it might be interesting to get people's responces to. (I put this on Twitter too, and got some interesting feedback from that) What schemes would you suggest taking if you are picking Marcus as your Master? I know a lot of the time it will be depedant on opponent/terrain/crew selection/strategy, but some general ideas about what schemes a typical Marcus crew (all Beasts!) would be good at and what to avoid would be ace.
  18. Another question about this ability: If I hire Cojo in my crew, and he dies, can Myranda then turn into him? I know you're not allowed multiples of him on the table at once, and she can obviously do it if you don't hire him, but I wasn't sure about if he was dead before the shapechange happened.
  19. Though if you can out-activate your opponent, you could very easily go Marcus-Mauler-Mauler.
  20. Hey all, My name is Sandy and I live in Leicester in the UK. I had my second first game of Malifaux this week (played 3 games total in 1.5!) and really enjoyed it. I've got a Marcus crew, including loads of beasts from other factions. I'm really enjoying painting up the models, and I'm looking to play a few more games over the next few weeks. See you around!
