  1. Yea, I've noticed that others value spare soulstones much more than I do on average. I go into hiring thinking "what's the minimum amount of SS I can leave myself so I can use as much as possible to hire a better crew." That's more of a general discussion though rather than Apex specific
  2. I can see all that, it's just way too rich for my blood at 11-12 stones. I generally hate models which require suits for what makes them good to begin with though The other comparison I'd make is Beebe&Calypso Beebe&Calypso are 12 Stones, have more Health than Model 9 (6@Arm+2 + 6 is at least 8@Arm+2 in my mind) and WAY more if Calypso gets re-summoned (which isn't hard to do), plus built-in healing for the Arm+2 Health. They're much more reliably mobile before hitting combat, they have better disruption, they are arguably better at dealing 1 dmg with no resist, Beebe draws 2x 9Tomes (effectively) every turn instead of only drawing a card when something is killed. Model9 wins on agility in combat by charging in/out and knife throwing to teleport, he lets models ignore friendly fire, and he has execute. But I see B&C's kit as more tanky, more offensive, and more useful for disrupting enemies for your gunline-ish crew. They can even scheme better simply because they have double the AP to move around, ignore all sorts of Terrain, and can always exit combat with MassOfTentacles.
  3. The opposite is also true. My beater succeeded in you using 3 Stones for the benefit of "on average 2 Health per stone" rather than "on average 1 health + better abilities/actions" I can see your point though, it's just not my playstyle at all. Edit: Although 2x Armor+2 Health is pretty valuable, I admit. I'll think about this more
  4. Yea this is what I don't like about Model 9. Sure he can do that, but he was also effectively an 11-13 Cost model (idk if the 2 damage preventions were on him). Like... Riders are 11 Cost and Model 9 won't ever be as effective as they are - though granted that may be an unfair comparison across factions, Model 9 serves more of a Tank role, and Riders are some of the best models in the game.
  5. I love this input, some great points here and I would have never thought of Hamelin. No FWC probably made a big difference. Declaring Hamelin into a possible Jedza I would assume is extremely dangerous though since every Rat is a Life Token?
  6. This makes a massive difference. I would recommend playing at 50 stones as soon as time/resources allow, since that's the level the game is balanced at
  7. Wow... I didn't think of this. That sucks. Crypsis Corps are easily in the Top 3 best minions in Explorers. You mentioned you're a new player, so I don't know if you gathered these interactions on your own - read through this and see if it makes you want to give them another try (I hope this doesn't come off as insulting, just trying to help out a newbie): They have effective min-3 damage against enemies with conditions (Probably Adversary), ignore cover/friendlyfire, and can use Predatory Instinct when attacking OutOfActivation with Patient Strike. They also get a 24" Patient strike by consuming a Focused because it's a gun action. 24" Patient Strike + Pushing an Adversary(Apex) enemy into sight lines gives: double plus to duel / minus to damage with min-3, or straight duel / plus to damage 3/4/5 (and can still ram for another +1) A model with ANY condition (Injured from Cooper's bomb, Shielded/Focused that they generate themselves, etc) still gives you #1 with a single plus to the duel rather than double plus. Stat 5 largely doesn't matter, just throw it out and force the opponent to cheat if he's losing (which he will be a majority of the time against a plus flip) They don't have melee but they don't need it since they easily exit engagement with their Bonus action. They also generate a constant 3" aura of Concealment/Severe as long as they stand near a Forest, or Severe/Hazardous near a Pit Trap. Both of these make it harder to get into melee with them, the former also protects nearby friendly models and the latter damages the enemy just for trying to get near. They can't be targeted from over 6" away either, so they shouldn't be dying. What do you use SS for? I genuinely think the correct Cache for Apex is 0-2. I don't see a good use for them other than damage prevention or getting a Ram on Cooper's attack when needed (I don't take Model 9 who is super SS-hungry) I think Harpooners are awful so I'd like to hear more about this. From my perspective: They shoot much worse than Crypsis Corps while being similar in mobility, they easily die to 2-3 attacks with their lack of defensive abilities and don't provide support like BeneathTheLeaves does, reel in is garbage compared to what Tannenbaum does, and the dogs already provide decent push effects for keeping Cooper disengaged, not to mention OOK Explorers have tons of movement effects (MrNgaatoro, Damned, Intrepid, WFinnigan, etc) . With Cooper/Crypsis/Vagati why take another mostly-static shooter model when shooting is so saturated and far better options exist for Harpooner's secondary roles?
  8. This is *slightly off topic, but @Plaag could you please start including the Crew lists in your video descriptions on Youtube? If you'd be comfortable with going one step further, including timestamps for when each Turn starts and a timestamp where you mention which schemes each player took at the end of the game would also be amazing. It would help me (and likely others) greatly if we could easily reference these - watching a 2-4 hour game is not easy to find the time to do. I think this would allow more people to join the conversation.
  9. As I've been going through and reviewing the Explorers Keywords (so far finished EVS, DUA-Umbra, and Cadmus), it's clear to me that Seeker, DUA-Umbra, and Cadmus are easily "S Tier" crews in terms of power, all on (at least close to) an even playing field with Dreamer/Schtook/Colette (with obvious match up variability). Even if Cadmus is only on the power level of "S Tier" and not to the level of "immediate NPE, impossible to win against" that's still a problem. I haven't watched any of the games, hopefully I'll get a chance to.
  10. Hey all, Just posted my Cadmus Keyword Review. This one ended up being really long since Cadmus is so complex haha. Check it out if you'd like! https://youtu.be/nBckYrLgOl4
  11. I'm doubling down on this, because I just realized Daeva can copy Archivist's attack and use it to draw cards (even at Stat 5) - solving the card hunger problem. Although... I also now realize Archivist doesn't ignore concealment. I assume this makes him quite a bit worse once some Concealment covers the board
  12. Right, it would require buffing the other options first
  13. Yea, Wyrd should avoid nerfing. Instead using errata to buff the worst crews and models would be a good choice. This is especially true for Guild and Neverborn, I'm sure everyone is sick of the same 2 masters and at most 15 models being in every competitive crew. Maybe slight nerfs for the toppest of top tier (Riders, Coryphee, Silent Ones, Phiona, Dreamer/Stitched, etc) if other options are buffed
  14. This is true. Every other Summoner can't be stopped (in 99% of cases), why should Ivan? I like this from a game design perspective
  15. It could be stun an infinite number of times, cause Mordrake can be killed to clear conditions in a pinch
  16. Good point, I forgot Molly has Lost Knowledge. In that case Eva would have to play a defensive shooty role and try to deny her Token, or if she goes in she would have to go in deep and engage/Lock Molly in such a way that Molly couldn't disengage away. Can Crooligans Teleport>Remove or only Remove>Teleport when discarding at start of activation? Wait... you CAN get two soulstones from two copies of FWC, during a single death? I need this to be true, I'm gonna be Mr. Moneybags McMonopoly Investment Banker Man every game from now until the upgrade is banned if true. This is all only partially True. If Ivan is losing card advantage and Gibson fails to grab a 13 he should be summoning Daeva using a decent Crow in hand / Gibson grabs. Especially in this matchup with 3 min-3 attacks to Mimic. With 3 attacks, plus flip to each, and +1 Stat Ivan should be able to win 2/3 on the flip and then either you cheat and I cheat up to hit 3 + Staggered if I can, or you don't and I cheat down the Crow to summon. I either summon or I pull cheating cards so I can summon on attack #3. I might even dump my 3rd attack on Archie or NecMachine just to ensure I get a Nocturne if I haven't summoned already and only have an 11. Just something to be aware of as an interested opponent. And for those who want to play Ivan PLEASE don't horse-blinder yourself and waste attacks and stones for a Brocken when you could happily deal 8+, Stagger 2 models, and have a Daeva or even a Nocturne. *Again, grain of salt. I could be too idealistic with how it seems on paper Did not know this - super stacking would be a mistake, but Gibson/Noct should be able to load Ivan & Friends up with 2-3 at a time. Idk how far up the board Molly plays tho Yea, I assume since Molly is too good at removing scheme markers they never got to draw those extra cards. When they did attack it was probably good tho - ignoring Terrifying and flipping positives. I think they rely heavily on Ivan & Umbra to keep enemies away from them. Did Ivan give the RougeNecro Staggered? That would be my #1 priority every turn until it's dead. It doesn't look like Molly has Condition Removal, does she? Even with all the H2W, the 1 damage ping or possible 3 was that scary? I had thought that was A&T's hard counter. Did Lethe's Caress do anything? I'm surprised you didn't mention it since Ivan, Nocturne, Archivist all want to spam a single action. I assume they leaped out of LoS before attacking or in the case of the Nocturne - healed up from Ivan? It's really a shame he took the Nocturne instead of Intrepid Effigy w/ Fate Upgrade. Even if he liked the rest of the crew the way it was, Effigy does almost the same pushy stuff but also heals and could have made a big difference later for just 1 Stone more. Nocturne is much better if you already have an Intrepid and are also DUA-heavy with Rook and Eva. Surprisingly despite the "not so much OOK" restriction, I stay more In-Keyword than 15 stones in 80% of my crews I would say EDIT: Not true, I thought the restriction was for OOK only (not versatiles, I use plenty of versatiles)
  17. I'm not at all surprised he couldn't cross the centerline with that crew composition against DeadRider/RogueNecro/Archie. Not what I would have taken, although also I hadn't thought of Archivist in DUA-Umbra so you can Siphon Mordrake for free, that's genius. Unfortunately idk much about Molly, so my comments are broad/general stuff here without matchup knowledge. Also take everything with a grain of salt, I could be wrong Not having Eva is a mistake, she has "broken beyond belief" potential for 7 stones. I would have taken her over Austera. Speaking of whom, did Ivan consistently heal enough to make her Chronicle worth it? EDIT: Vernon and Welles I assume would have been better for SpreadThemOut against Molly too, although I only say that cause I know she attacks WP The double FWC is confusing, they can't both trigger off one death, right? I like the idea of Hidden Agenda but Ivan should always have double plus (one plus crow) be winning most duels on the flip so secret cheating isn't good - at least on paper. Also FWC has the "NO REAP panic button" which is crucial with Ivan being so important to his crew. I'm confused about the "severely card hungry" - Like sure, Ivan is card hungry but at least on paper it doesn't seem at a problematic level Was Distracted/Focus stacking good between Gibson and the Nocturne? Was he cheating his simple duels down on everyone? How did the Operatives do? Particularly did Infiltrator do anything? How often were they able to draw cards with SetUpFS? How often were they getting Ambush for free or were they discarding? What did Ivan get to summon each turn? And were you able to kill that so easily that he couldn't get any pressure on your half of the board at all, or...?
  18. Well, he isn't Immune... it's just that all conditions are drawn in by the gravitational field of Mordrake's massive ungentlemanly cojones as he dives in to his death over and over. Ya gotta kill him first with Manos Can you post the lists and Scheme Pool from your game? I'm quite interested
  19. We already have better than this. Meredith is a Henchman who can guarentee a Suit, and she has an 8" 5 Stat attack that doesn't have 14 TN, and the effect is Injured+1, Poison+2, and with a Crow "(If there are any friendly models within 5" of the target that have Poison+1 or greater, or if the target already has Poison+1 or greater, target gains a parasite token)" Side note, is the "another" on Rancid Transplant's requirement referring to Meredith or "non-target"?
  20. I wouldn't worry SO much about forcing tokens on the opponent - I imagine it'll happen naturally on it's own. Nexus gets - let's say - 2 attacks per turn which will require 2 discards. Nests each get 1-2 attacks which even at Stat 4 are ~50% chance to be winning on the flip. EAE, Husks, and Spelleaters will cause some AoE simple duels. Meredith can occasionally give a token with a crow. Archivist does scary damage, and other perhaps OOK choices will put additional pressure on the opponent. It's very likely the opponent won't be able to keep up with this amount of hand pressure in addition to cheating for his own proactive actions. Think less "I need parasite tokens on the opponent" and more "the opponent REALLY doesn't want parasite tokens." From this perspective Nests go from "ugh, Stat 4, I can't force these tokens on the opponent" to "Oh wow, four attacks between 2 Nests and the opponent is stuck having to worry about me hitting just once!" Consider a scenario where you attack with the nest against a Df 5 model. You flip a 6, the opponent flips a 5. Currently he is losing 10-10 in the duel and has to cheat first. Does he cheat a 6? Sure that wins the duel currently, but the Nest only needs to cheat a 7+ to hit, and Nexus is still standing there ready to force 2-3 discards on your crew. Does he cheat a severe? That's a LOT of investment on some throwaway attack from half of a totem. It's a Lose-Lose. People place too much emphasis on high Stat and Low Stat attacks. Stat (almost) only really matters when trying to 100% unavoidably force things through when cheating. Over 70% of flips in any given turn will NOT be cheated. For placing Tokens most easily, rather than giving that task to Meredith I would recommend piling on the enemy with a couple EAE/Husks and holding Nexus' activation till late in the turn - when the opponent has the fewest cards to cheat/discard. Also, correct me if I'm mistaken but Tokens aren't THAT important on specific targets usually. The most important use for Tokens is giving your crew pseudo-Armor+1 which can be done with ANY Token'ed enemy within 4". IMO Nexus attacking through enemies is second most important, and the rest is gravy.
  21. Hey All, Just posted my DUA-Umbra Keyword Review. Check it out if interested, and let me know if I missed anything important. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3alu3DOWx8
  22. Oh true, I had forgotten it does. Does Syndicate have a lot of healing though? It seems to me they don't except for a couple AoE heals
  23. Think of Slippery less as a Defensive ability and more of an almost-Don'tMindMe. That being said, I don't like Rook in Syndicate. He's much better in DUA-Umbra who can use the hand pressure 10x better I don't remember if I already brought it up in this thread weeks ago but Beebe-Calypso is an AutoTake in Syndicate I think. Calypso's 2" Pushes activate Hazardous, Beebe can heal Thunderbird, and they help Disrupt/Provide a Frontline to keep Anya safe TheDamned is an excellent model but not very synergistic with Anya, especially when Anya herself is already very mobile. I would think Anya's crew should utilize her strengths as much as possible, so scheme dropping and pushes/tankyness to have the enemy continually trigger hazardous terrain.
