  1. I started Malifaux a while ago in addition to Warmachine (I've dropped GW completely).

I also think that the website is quite messy compared to other brands and that the absence of fluff synthesis (the Event doesn't appear on the site or the M2E fulff book) is a bit annoying. Moreover, I was really afraid when I only saw renders for the plastic minis.

I have now purchased all the plastic Neverborn and they are asolutely gorgeous. They look exactly like the render. However, some will need a bit of green stuffing especially the Hungering Darkness (this is an older kit, this model is terrible to fix with green stuff) and the Mature Nephilim. Other than those few models we are reaching near perfection (Teddy was a joy to assemble).

I know now that I can really trust the renders and that Wyrd will not hesitate to delay a new mini if they are not happy with the model.

On the opposite side, PP shows products painted by pros that have requirements for not being too good to avoid making the customer afraid. The result is that the minis are often better in real life as on the website, especially if you are a painter with average skills or more. I thus prefer Wyrd's strategy by far.

So, all in all, I think that Wyrd has made an awesome game and that the minis are incredible. They just need to take the time to better organize the website and maybe synthesize the fluff so that it is easier for the beginner to get a grasp of the whole picture and identifiy to the characters of the storyline.

I'm really OK with the renders only, especially if it keeps the price of the minis cheap.

  2. This is a great and beautifuly illustrated brief !

Coming from Warmachine, I'd like to know if there is such a thing as a linear obstacle (fences, small ruins of walls, providing soft/hard cover depending on the obstacle but having a very thin width so that a model can't stand on top) and how they should be treated in terms of walk and charge penalties ?

  3. I listen to Malifools and Through the Breach. Both are very good and funny.

They sometimes lack a little bit of tactical discussions though if you compare to the Warmahordes podcasts.

I haven't found a podcast for Malifaux with as much strategy discussions as MoM or Chain attack for Warmahordes. The faction reviews that Through the Breach did are very interesting and thorough though.

Malifaux is a bit overwhelming for a beginner so it would be really nice to find info on crew construction methods, scheme and strategy management and so on.

  4. Maybe it's a matter of personal perception but the printed colours are darker with less contrast and the card surface's rough finish is unpleasant to touch.

To me it doesn't look better at all. It looks home made.

A final little unpleasant thing: the flesh construct with victim has the same picture on the card as the regular flesh construct which makes it more difficult to differenciate them while playing.

Overall, the minis look as amazing as always (I've yet to assemble them but it's promising) but the cards are a bit of a downer to me.

  5. So I just received my Teddy ann Flesh construct with victim kits yesterday. I opened the boxes and found out that the cards weren t glossy anymore and seemed to be made of a cheap rough material which reduced the quality of the printing.

The boxes came from Wayland and still had the plastic wrapped around them so I don t think there has been a card swap.

Did Wyrd change its card material?

  6. As a Hordes player, I tend to disagree a bit with what you say about the game.

The prices are inflating a lot and some single point models are worth more than 20 USD (Gobber tinker). If you are a Cryx player, units of 10 bane knights (with only 3 different positions) are around 80 USD unless I'm wrong.

If you play a faction with a Colossal, that single piece is more than 100 USD.

One of the arguments that the PGs and PP use to get people into the game is that it's cheap. I don't think it is at all as you need to spend around 400-600 USD to begin playing tournament lists.

Moreover, the minis can be really ugly and time consuming to assemble and paint (I'm looking at you Nyss Hunters).

However, the game is great and fun although some of the rules are complex (even top players make mistakes in their games) and it's very time consuming to learn what all the references do in the game. A typical game is also very stressful as you can lose if you lose a single piece (warcaster/warlock).

We've just started M2E in my gaming club and my first games felt like playing wargames in easy and relax mode, without the stress related to WM/H. The minis are gorgeous but very difficult to paint well (big surfaces, not so many details that come and break the monotony of the minis, tiny faces...). They can also be troublesome to prepare before painting (that big gap in the middle of the Hungering Darkness...).

I also find the fluff in Malifaux very immersive.

  7. Thanks a lot for the advice.

For point 1, I understand we are a hard hitting faction (although mainly in melee as far as my games have been going). However, the main issue I have currently is the hard to kill ability (when one model can't be reduced to 0 Wd by one single attack). If the Resser can tangle up a high value piece of mine then one activation gets wasted getting rid of the spamming thing.

And this can be done over and over with the corpse markers left after the combat. Isn't there any way to remove the corpse markers?

For point 2, I need to practice more. I have found the illusionnary forest really useful until now but I need some practice on the other blocking stuff. I'll also get my hand on some of the swampfiends when they are available in plastic.

For point 3, Ok understood. Terror tots are already sprinting with scheme markers in hand :P.

  8. Hello fellow Neverborns,

I'm just starting the game and I was wondering how Neverborn as a faction dealt with heavy summoning Ressers builds.

Because it seems to me that we've got a more elite faction, it seems easy to get spammed by the Ressers. Moreover, they are difficult to kill in one attack so I find it difficult to win the piece trade.

I recently met Nicodem with my Lilith and it felt very uncomfortable (although not unwinnable) being outnumbered so heavily by mindless zombies (Muahaha) and Ressers of higher levels. I tried having rapid growth inside my crew but didn't really have the chance to use it.

How do you mitigate the summoning factor when you build your crew ?

  9. Dear all,

We are just starting Malifaux in my gaming club and we have a question we didn t find in the rules.

If the attacker wins the attack duel with a red joker, does the attack cause severe + weak damages or does he have to flip damages normally ?

Thqnks for your answers and sorry for the noob question.

  10. Just a small post to point out that sexism is highly culturally subjective. There seems to be a lot of fuss around sexism in some countries (US) while in others (France for example), the same things are not such a big deal.

I like painting miniatures of sexy women that are alive and I don't like painting putrefying zombies of ugly dudes. I still do my share of house cleaning at home and treat my girlfriend with respect.

But that may be because I leave in Paris where you can see the cover of porn magazines advertising on the wall of newspaper shops just on the way to school (which is not especially a good thing...).

  11. Hello to everyone,

    I'm Yool1981, French, 32 years old.

I've played miniature games for close to 18 years now. I've started with GW but dropped WHB in 2010 and I'm now playing Warmachine on a regular basis.

I've been attracted to Malifaux's universe from 2010 but I never purchased any mini or played the game because I didn't find the minis very attractive. Now that the new plastic kits are available and gorgeous, I can finally start this awesome and very original game.

I'll play Neverborn and I'm awaiting my new Lynch crew.
