  1. In the normal course of events, the mode is killed or sacrificed, things happen, and then it leaves play. Dismount resolves first, because it happens "When this model would be killed or sacrificed" and is presenting "When this model would be killed or sacrificed, [do something else] instead of killing or sacrificing it." "If this model leaves play" is a condition which happens while you're resolving the process of damaging or killing or sacrificing a model. If you have a rule changing the process of killing or sacrificing the model (which Dismount does), the rule that changes the process has to take precedence. So you resolve Dismount, move everything from [Mounted McCabe] to Dismounted McCabe, and then the rule on the Jack Daw upgrades isn't relevant because they're all now on a model that isn't leaving play.
  2. I'm looking at the current answer ratings and wondering how much they're based on "I want this answer to be the right one, because it benefits me most." There are a whole bunch of conflicting precedents, if you're working from precedents: "immune to damage caused by pulses" includes damage caused indirectly by pulsesLaugh Off prevents movement caused by other models, but doesn't prevent movement caused indirectly by other models: Obey to perform a walk."The condition/fall killed the model, not your crew" when determining credit/blame for schemes. So that's one precedent in favor, and two precedents against. Laugh Off failing to prevent the model being Obey'ed to move is a pretty strong counter example.
  3. The number of languages a player knows isn't tied to Literacy. Literacy is how well the player can read and write the languages known. Either way, previous discussion: http://themostexcellentandawesomeforumever-wyrd.com/topic/103569-language-proficiencies/?do=findComment&comment=761739 Languages are one of those potentially really big hassle, potentially no benefit to the story mechanics, so I assume that is why it wasn't emphasized.

  5. Thank you for the answers, but are you sure? I was thinking the same, but counterspell directly says about printed suits in the action, and this thing about "associated" ones. So is SS use associated with the stat? The numeric value and suit on the card flipped have no association with the model's stats. And the soulstone likewise That's not a value "associated" with the statistic.
  6. It occurs to me that there's a diagram or two that would make a really good addition to the ones presented, to include the important paragraph: So a diagram showing a Ht 2 model, and then two Ht 1 models lined up with Ht 1 blocking terrain between each model with notes that: The Ht2 model has LoS to the Ht1 models (and the Ht 1 models have LoS to the Ht2 model) but the terrain's cover attributes will applyBetween the Ht1 models, the Ht1 blocking terrain prevents LoSI don't know if someone would want to have that as one diagram or two, but it would probably be super helpful to new players.
  7. If you get the suit for the trigger, and you have the card to discard, then you're able to declare the trigger. And, as specified, if you can declare a trigger you're required to do so. If you don't have the card, you can't declare the trigger. The impossible isn't optional.
  8. You draw line of sight from the top down perspective. That means that line of sight goes through terrain, whatever the heights of the terrain and models involved: Where Blocking comes into the matter is that Blocking only applies depending on the relative heights involved: So the line of sight in diagram C is drawn across the terrain. If you scatter Ht 1 blocking hard cover terrain across the table, then lots of Ht2+ models are going to be gaining the advantage of cover while they're getting line of sight drawn to them.
  9. Or, essentially, If the pig is engaged, it stops because "until ... or there are no legal targets available" is satisfied. Because there are no legal charge targets for an engaged model without an ability or effect that allows it to charge while engaged. And Stampede is a "once per activation" trigger. "once per activation" is still "once per activation" if it's being caused during someone else's activation.
  10. The argument for "You can't do that while buried" has to hinge on one of two factors: A requirement to be in play to do something.A requirement based on distanceAccording to the rules for being buried, that "in play" requirement is supposed to be explicit. Because what Buried says is: and Abilities are defined: That buried model is still in the game, but it's in a zombie half-in-play state. Otherwise, Expert Sleuth is the rule that "says what you can do": I remember Justin posting something about there being an implicit "in play" expectation on several things, but I also remember there being a "Justin's not supposed to be making that sort of statement outside the FAQ any more" follow up...
  11. Nope, you don't have to declare which suit you're looking for, or decide before flipping. If you have a net , you flip the cards and you get the one with the lowest number value. If you're lucky enough to have ties, you get to choose which of the tied cards you want. But if you flipped a 2 and a 3, you take the 2 because the 2 is the lower numeric value. If you have a net , you flip the cards and then you get to choose which one of the cards you want. If you get a 9 and a 7, you decide which one you want without having to say "Gosh, I wish one of those had been masks" after the flip or having to say "I hope I get tomes" before the flip.
  12. are straight forward. Copy/pasting from the rulebook: Note the second sentence. You get multiple chances of flipping the suit you wanted, and you get to choose between the suits on the cards flipped. The important part for on the reward flip is going to be to negate and to taunt you by showing you the suits you could have gotten. Edit: And the Cheat Fate rules (which are in play because you're allowed to cheat the flip) include the very important statement that you're not allowed to cheat fate if you have a net negative fate modifier. Of course, either way, the more cards flipped the greater chance that a red or black joker comes out. So, yeah, you're flipping cards and you don't have a reason to care what the numeric value of those cards are, but the fate modifier mechanic doesn't mind.
  13. And I disagree. Lighting someone on fire for Burning +10 is just as direct as Sonnia's Burning Demise, or throwing someone off of a building. No one gets credit for conditions because of complications like stacking, but also because of complications like models that can move conditions from one model to another, and the fact that a model can have multiple conditions on it. A model could have 4 hit points left, be Burning +2, Poison +1 and have Flaming Demise on it. So you either end up with a huge, complicated system of assigning credit, or you go with something simple like "No one gets credit." And Wyrd chose the simple but harsh option. Edit: And it's not acceptable to produce a system where the simple cases get assigned credit but the complicated cases don't, because then you get into accusations of exploits when people start throwing on extra conditions to "rob" a model of credit by changing to the complicated system. Even something based on the order conditions are applied or resolved in would be subject to manipulation. "You just put Flaming Demise on my model. I'm first player, so I'm going to load it up with Flaming so my effect kills it first."

  15. They packaged the FAQ as a zip file (so they could include separate PDF documents containing the errata'd cards). iOS just throws up its hands when it sees the zip file.
  16. In essence Page 5 of the Warmachine and Hordes rule books basically says play like a total arse hole, be a dick, don't hold back, smash everyone and everything all the time. (Paraphrasing). OK after re-reading it it's not quite that bad, the problem is people choose to ignore Point 5 of the page and just play like dicks. Here' take a look. I took this screenshot from the free version of the rules they released a short while ago. Keep in mind that you've posted a picture of "Page 5- Mk II". In other words, that's the second edition (mark two)'s Page 5. The original version of Page 5 was much much easier for people to use an excuse for bad behavior, and people who want an excuse for bad behavior can pretty much use anything to do so. So you might expect that there was a bit of a Page Five problem, and given the propensity for wargamers to learn how to play by osmosis instead of actually reading the rulebook... Well, let's just say that there are a lot of cases in Warmachine/Hordes where a rules problem can be solved by opening a rulebook and reading the rule aloud to the other player. There are unfortunate cases where you have to do that, because the other player still thinks they're playing Mark I rules.
  17. Lots of models attempt to kill other models by applying Poison +X or Burning +X. If arsons and poisoners don't get credit for their indirect kills, why should Sonnia or Yamaziko get credit?
  18. Except the wording on fattys trigger is "After damaging immediately kill the target unless IT discards two cards or two soulstones."There's no mention of the player in this unlike stoning for cards or initiative. If the intent was everyone could do it why wouldn't they just put the "unless the player" instead of "it" which would then make more sense esp given your point about the cards? I'm prob wrong but I'd rather see why i'm wrong re the rules as it seems most assume any model can discard stones they don't have and I'm assuming they can't as i'm buggered if I can find it in the rules. Also Stinky thanks you for thinking of him. You seem to be hung up on discarding soulstones from the cache. Where are the rules that specify that a model can discard cards from the player's hand?
  19. Well they would be discarded, because the first thing you do with Mulligan is discard cards, but I'm just being pedantic. That's not being pedantic, that's ignoring the fact that the game rules define how things work. The game defines "discard a card" as: As an example of context: So in the course of a flip with , you flip two cards, choose one to keep, and then follow the instructions for "discard a card" for the other one. But, Disciple changes the instructions for "discard a card". Disciple says: So Disciple changes the definition of discarding a card to "Place the cards aside, and shuffle them directly into the deck" rather than placing them face up in the discard pile. Ace in the Hole specifies While Disciple applies, the condition "would be placed in the discard pile" doesn't apply to discarded cards simply because you're not placing discarded cards on the discard pile.
  20. I think the principle rule is: If one Fatemaster character interacts with another Fatemaster character, you've got a few choices: Decide by fiat the result. This includes whether you want to determine the result based on fixed stats, or "The plot requires X to happen."Flip for the character. This does involve touching the fate deck and giving the players cards. If a Fatemaster character uses an ability that would flip a card for an effect, it's still the same two choices. Disclaimer: If you're using the wargame/tactical rules, then you follow the wargame/tactical rules instead of the normal Fatemaster rule.
  21. Almost right. It's still an enemy model, and it declared an action (because you made it do so). But the willpower check is done after the action is declared.
  22. The Summoned Models rules on page 31 of Shifting Loyalties make the exception for Tactical Actions and Abilities which sacrifice the model to summon other models. The Desolation Engine's ability Lost Focus doesn't sacrifice the Desolation Engine, so that doesn't qualify for the exception. As a result, when you kill the Desolation Engine, it's Finished Off and you flip for it right then and those two summoned Abomination models don't change that.
  23. It's a circus theme. There's a ring around the edge of each of the plastic bases that you could paint in a circus theme. Isn't that good enough?
  24. The link on http://www.wyrd-games.net/resources works for me when I tried it earlier this week, and also when I tried it just now. I had to go get my own copy of Vassal, but otherwise the link was fine.
  25. I think it's reached the "As soon as they arrive on the boat, and get shipped out to distributors, plus padding for other unexpected delays" schedule. Then again, I see one retailer has the copy: "Wyrd is releasing a new M2E Starter Box on September 25th."
