  1. For a 'review' of Rasputina's crew (and all the arcanists in the 1st wave of the beta) I'd suggest listening to this episode of Malifools, where they go trough each entry in the Arcanist beta 'deck' so you can get a rough idea on how Tina and her peers work: http://malifools.podbean.com/2013/06/21/episode-49-toys-out-the-pram/ BTW, the actual Arcanist overview starts on the 102 minute mark; before that they have a v1.5 tournament report, which you might as well skip... Keep in mind this episode is from a month and a half ago (it was toward the last third of the open beta period) so there have been some adjustments to various models, but in general Tina's crew didn't change much (just some tweaks to her upgrades I think) so it should still be relevant information. Hope that helps:)
  2. Here are some links on sculpting tutorials for 'urban' bases: Generic urban bases: http://museonminis.com/baffos-sculpting-table-03-urban-bases/ Tile floor bases: http://museonminis.com/baffos-sculpting-table-07-more-urban-bases/ Sewer bases: http://museonminis.com/baffos-sculpting-table-10-sewers-spiders/ Hope that helps:)
  3. I guess my approach to Ramos is a bit different. Admittedly I am a 'Min-maxer kind of player' and I focused on Ramos summoning to try and see how far you can get it: I tend to take the Malifaux child over the Brass arachnid as Totem, mainly for the extra Spider summoning at Ca 4. To make that work I usually hide most of my crew on turn 1, using Joss with recharge soulstones to kill a friendly Rail worker (4SS same as Electric creation, but living, so I get 1 SS back and 2 Scrap counters if I kill it with Joss) to summon 4-5 Steam arachnids. To max out the utility of these summoned models I generally take Johan with the Bleeding edge tech, to hopefully heal all summoned spiders to full health by turn 2. In this set up I've managed to summon 12+ spiders per game, starting with 1-2 sacrificial Rail workers, which generally gets me a high points draw or minor victories (6/7-7 draws or 8-7 wins), since I generally spend the first 2 turn of every game summoning and hiding from ranged attrition, while overrunning the opposition in turn 3/4 with a swarm of Df lowering spiders... I never hire spiders from the start of the game; I generally focus on an elite line up of Henchmen/enforcers, counting on the summoning to get me the activation advantage later on.
  4. As the Thread title suggest I was wondering if the Metal gamin can put protection of metal on itself on turn 1 and keep it for the entire game and how this might 'combo' with other models in the crew... Looking at it strictly rules as written it seems to me it is... (1) Protection of Metal: Target friendly model within 3" gains the following Condition until this model takes this Action again: "Metal Protection: This model has Df 6. This model's Df may not be altered by other abilities, actions, or Conditions. Remove this Condition immediately if there are no friendly Metal Gamin within 3"." The ability's description does not specify ''Target another friendly model within 3'', so I am guessing it works out (can be put on the gamin itself). Also as long as the Metal gamin is alive there will be ''a friendly metal gamin within 3'' so the condition won't drop off unless somebody else dispells it (since every model counts as a friendly model to itself). Now I wanted also to verify if this stacks with the Gamin's Fierce headbutt extra effects on the atack: (1) Fierce Head Butt (Ml 4 / Rst: Df / Rg y1): Target suffers 1/2/3 damage. If the target is engaged with a friendly model that has the Metal Protection Condition, the target gains the Burning +2 Condition. So, if the Metal gamin has Protection on itself it should get the Burning +2 condition against any enemy targets he's beating on, since they are engaged with 'a friendly model with PoM', but would that apply also if the metal gamin is beating on a friendly Rail golem (specifically to ramp up the Burning condition on the golem before activating it)? As I see it, depends on whether friendly models are ever considered engaged with each other, since that is part of the wording to 'trigger' the Burning +2 condition on the Gamin's attack. One could argue that even though they are friendly models, while one is making Ml attacks on the other they are engaged for the duration of the attack, but not engaged when an enemy is shooting at them (so you can't force randomization). Does anybody have any insight on these interactions? Thanks:)
  5. Besides layering thinned out paint in 10+ layers there are a few quicker techniques to get smooth gradients: oil paint washes/feathering and powdered pigments. In short: you can use oil paints over acrylics (seal them with gloss varnish before applying oil paints) to apply the oil paint in the recesses of the model, wait 10-15 minutes for the solvent (white spirit usually) to evaporate and use a dry brush to 'feather' the paint from the recess outwards creating a smooth gradient. Dry pigment powders (this is not weathering pigments but more often artist pastels ground into powder and lightly applied with a dry brush; the fixed into place with pigment medium or varnish) It is difficult to explain fully just in words so here are a few links: Some of my examples of oil paints on models (scroll down toward the end of each article to see the painted model): - Painted Ghetorix - Painted shifting stones Video tutorials that I learned these tricks from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLFID0cxkE0 Hope that helps, Cheers:)
  6. It actually depends on the individual paint/color and their formulation; metals have 'sparkly flakes' that tend to separate from the medium and the pigments tend sediment on the bottom, while other colors might just get gradually thicker without separating turning into 'paint pudding'. When I deal with older dryish GW paints I generally use a stick to get a glob of the paint on the palette, add a few drops of Mixing medium and add water till I get a somewhat fluid paint without clumps on my palette; if I can't get rid of the clumps of dried paint I give up and throw the old paint away. This method worked so far with reds, browns and greens, but if did not helps with some of my old whites, yellows, pink and often metals. Anyway, I would not advise to add water/medium into the old paint bottles, since depending on the paint formulation it can get vastly different results and generally not really usable, keep your reviving on your palette, don't try mixing and shaking in the bottles themselves...
  7. I assume this is an M1e crew, since there is no mention of Upgrades whatsoever... The undead chihuahua is McMourning's exclusive totem, so you can't play it with any other master; also in general you can't have more than one Totem, unless the totem's specific rules say otherwise (in this case you have both the Copycat killer and the Cihuahua and you can't even if the Chihuahua wasn't McMournings pet...).
  8. As it was mentioned before, this is an edition change, it has always been like this in all game systems I know. In general people fear/dislike change in things they are accustomed to or heavily invested into. That is usually the main drive for the early cries of 'Doom and gloom'. Looking at M2e specifically, we are likely going to keep hearing dissenting opinions about the edition change for a while, with peaks in 'gamer's rage' right after Gencon (since then we'll see the first batch of finalized rules' and everybody will be nitpicking on minute details that did/didn't change in the final closed playtesting between the end of the open beta and release) and as soon as Wave 2 of the Beta will launch (since there everybody will see how the rest of their models changed for the first time). In my 20 years of wargaming experience I've seen this cycle at absolutely every edition change. A few times I was among the doom sayers and quit the game in question, others I was unhappy with the changes but sticked with the system and got used to the change and in other cases I have been in the happy camp from the start. For practical examples: I rage quit WH fantasy and 40k in the latest edition changes, since I felt the changes made the games a glorified expensive variant of Risk, while in the Warmachine and Malifaux transitions to their 2nd editions I was happier with the changes and the way the companies handled/comunicated with their comunity so I stuck with these. That said the impact of negative opinions on the internet about an edition change is in my opinion mostly dependent on how big your gaming community is: if you have 20 regular players and 4 rage quit the system, there isn't much of an impact, so you really should not be bothered by anything anybody is saying on the web; if on the other hand you have 3-4 regular players and 1-2 of them rage quit and newer players or players still on the fence get influenced by an overabundance of negative opinions, the system overall (both the old and the newer edition) might die out in your area regardless of you opinion on the matter...
  9. If you click on the pics and click again you get them to Full screen mode:) That said I am a big fan of new Joss, Taelor, Ice golem, Myranda, Executioner, Mc Mourning, Ronin and Rusty Alyce:D As for the Love/Hate of the new Art style Vs Old style: The main change I've been noticing is that the new style feels less like a caricature and a bit more grim and realistic. Kinda like the tone/style difference between the Tim Burton's Batman compared to the Nolan's movies...
  10. In general the M2E forums were pretty active during the Beta, but now that that sub forum got closed, there's been an aery lack of activity, like a ghost town... I think it is because most Malifaux players that participated to the open beta are in full M2e mode, while these forums are still about 1.5 and most people don't want to jump back and forth between 1.5 and M2e, so everybody is silently waiting to 2nd edition official release and the forums reorganization... I've been playing M2e games exclusively, since we got the beta rules and find it difficult to go back to the older rule set, now that I got used to (and prefer) the newer more elegant rules of masters like Ramos and Rasputina.
  11. I'd say it depends a good deal on your local meta; if you face Undeads or constructs often, just add Kang to Misaki's crew, and you gain quite a lot of punch. If you want to expand Mei feng I'd say Take some Metal gamins, since they are sturdy little buggers and can work well as her jumping points for Railwalker (better than Rail workers in my opinion). In general I'd advise to proxy what you're planning on buying for a couple games, so you see in practice how it works for you and then decide if it is worth buying.
  12. For Hoffman I'd expect him to have a rule or upgrade similar to Infiltration from the assorted Ten thunder masters; in his case I'd expect him to have 'Infiltration' M&SU constructs: this crew can hire up to 4 M&SU construct models as if they were dual faction guild. I don't think he'll have anything like Pariah of Iron, since that would give him access to a much wider range of 'un-fluffy' options from Arcanists, Ressers and Outcasts. Regarding the 7th Arcanist, I could see another elemental spell caster, themed on Earth or Air magic with a corresponding retinue of elemental Gamins and possibly a Golem (atm we have Rasputina and Kaeris covering Fire and Ice, Ramos dabbles with Electrical magic, Marcus is a super druid, Mei Feng could be considered 'Metal/Fire' elementalist, while Collette is a super Illusionist).
  13. We started playing end of March, so it's pretty new. Currently we have 2 active players (me with Arcanists, Outcasts and Ressers and my Guild opponent), one waiting to get the M2e finalized rules and the 2nd beta wave (his favored master is Dreamer and he couldn't be bothered to play any of the currently known masters, even though he has many of them...) and a number of prospective players still sitting on the fence to see the finalized rules and new plastics, before jumping in. I am hoping that in September we'll have at least 4 active players, if not more... That said, how is the Malifaux scene in Croatia? Do you guys have any connections with the Warmachine/Hordes or GW metas there, cause we occasionally make the trip to your Agram arena events (usually the Winter one)...
  14. Well out of the Gremlin beta cards, we Know the Hog whisperers are still mercs, which means there should be a Merc pig option we haven't seen yet to justify him (I doubt the devs made the whisperer a merc just for the Marcus Pig list), so I would assume Gracie is still a Merc model so it makes sense for Bert and Wong to still be mercenaries as well.
  15. Ello everyone! I'm Baffo; new to Malifaux, but fairly seasoned wargamer with a focus on the creative side of the hobby. As such I've been writing various sculpting articles/tutorials for Steam forged and Muse on Minis (Warmachine/Hordes focused sites), but since I started working on Malifaux models, I thought I'd post the links to some articles that could be useful to Malifaux players: Here is my small army of Steam arachnids with Ramos: And here are some links: - Ramos and Steam arachnids on sewer/industrial bases: http://museonminis.com/baffos-sculpting-table-10-sewers-spiders/ - Tile floor patterns for bases: http://museonminis.com/baffos-sculpting-table-07-more-urban-bases/ - Assorted urban bases: http://museonminis.com/baffos-sculpting-table-03-urban-bases/ Index of all my articles on MoM (if you want to check out my other articles): http://museonminis.com/author/baffo/ Hope you find some of that stuff useful; cheers!
