  1. Mason. I am terribly sorry to bother you with more questions about the beta, but I have one last one. I have been in between houses and thus unable to print the NDA. I can rectify that this weekend, but am concerned it might be a bit late. Am I correct in my assessment that I am too late? If I am too late, is another wave of invites planned for a future date?
  2. An interesting thing to consider, is that there is more than just Masters we are losing. I imagine that the Nephalim will be Nekima's keyword, but what will become of Barabos. Will he be in the dead man's hand, or perhaps jump ship to the outcast faction. One henchman we know is not coming back is The Judge. Will The Jury take his place at Lady J's side, or will we see her with a new right hand? Nicodem's crew become generic zombies easily, but at the end of Nemesis, a new direction was hinted for Mortimer. Will we see him as a versitile Resser? As Ramos fades away, Joss and Howard both need new jobs. They seem like they would best fit with Ironsides, but lorewise, would they stand beside the woman responsible for Ramos' imprisonment? Who gets puppets as a thing? Lots of stuff to consider with the lore moving forward.
  3. Hi there. I recently moved from Europe, and am wondering if there is a scene near me!
  4. Got the book, have mixed feelings about some of the stories and the updates to the masters, but I trust Wyrd t steer us through mostly.
  5. urgh! My book is so far away! Anyone want to throw me some Viks Spoilers? EDIT: Woo 100th post!
  6. I wish to challenge the patriarchy with every single thing in the world
  7. On phone so I am not quoting and dividing up. I use the headcanon I guess only because I cannot personally effect the actual canon. It only lets me challenge the patriarchal assumption that swm is normal when it is brought up I guess, but is all I am able to do with the models at hand I guess. I suppose it comes from being into fan fiction in the first place. I certainly think that gaming in general (not just wyrd, but here we are) needs more representation of marginalised groups. It is hard to challenge the patriachy if it seems like everything is catered to them.
  8. I am sorry I offended you. Perhaps I should more have explained that I have these headcanons because it enables me to interact with the characters who are 'like me' as it were. I didn't share how I feel about those characters to say 'Wyrd is doing enough in representation' I shared to say 'Media assumes the default is straight white male and we need to challenge that' The fact that you have assumed that I am a straight white male with no understanding of what it means to be a minority though rather illustrates my point that society assumes that is the default and that is something we as a community need to address. I use the 'headcanon' because there needs to be more minority representation, not because there is enough EDIT: All the relationships so far in canon are straight, which is fairly terrible, and to be honest most of the references seem pretty out of place to me.
  9. Jacob Lynch is gay. He uses his reputation as a ladies man to his advantage in business, but isn't attracted to the women he hires. Mei Feng is asexual. She has never really considered it, but asexual is the word that fits from modern lexicon. The intricate workings of machines and the glowing flames of the fire are more interesting to her than the paltry excitement that flesh can offer. Ironsides is pansexual. She is attracted to bodies, but more so to people. Gender doesn't really come into it for her. She is well read and well educated, and knows that such a label need not follow her all her life if something fits better. My point, in that little bit of headcannon/fanfiction, is that people tend to assign a character with no stated sexuality as straight as that is 'normal'. There could be loads of LGBTQA models in Malifaux, because frankly, we just don't know. Malifaux is strong in its representation of women, in that there is a mostly even split of male and female models. If their sexuality was important, I would think that Wyrd would be one of the companies where we would see an even split there as well. Now, how that would be reflected in the COMMUNITY (the amount of people I have had to stare down when they 'joked' that all women in Malifaux land were lesbians because lure worked on them)? The problem with people is that they are slow to change, and when confronted with a need to change they revert to the hive mind. It is easier to be part of the problem than it is to admit you are part of it. Most people, I think, are good people. They are all for seeing more positive representation of women but society has a way of telling them they are wrong. Did you know for example, when presented with a fifty fifty split of men and women, most people tend to think there are more women than men. It is our responsibility as a community to speak up in favour of the changes we want to see, and to support those developers that move in those positive directions. This might be a little rambly, sorry. Hopefully there are some good points in there that people can work with though.
  10. Ah - I am glad I did not noob it up and miss a whole wave! Thanks for the info, looking forward to a new book!
  11. Was this one a closed Beta. The first I heard of the book was today
  12. I like it too - Though I will confess that sword is goin on my McCabe
  13. I would be tempted to make her a gun bunny to set her apart from the other sisters, but giving a sniper sister feels like it is patching one of the crews intended weaknesses. I would probably go with a tanky type model high on armour but low on defense. In an ideal world I would love to see an upgrade for Taelor and Rusty Alice that can make them sisters, but that would probably be very powerful.
  14. I have always considered the Pale Rider to be Blondie, as they were very similar characters. I would flail about happily if we got a Man with no name though. Trying to make a crew based around the good the bad and the ugly would be much fun!
  15. I read chronicles one recently. There is a none story peice about the origins of the neverborn. They are not native to Malifaux, but settled there before humans came. I don't remember about a connection to the grave spirit.
  16. Pandora vs Perdita is a tricky match up, but far from unwinnable. The first thing I would suggest is focus on achieving strats and schemes. If you opponent wants to spend all his AP shooting at you incorporeal models doing them one or two damage a shot then that is his look out. You will be dropping scheme markers in that time and generally scoring VP! It is true that some of the schemes require murderising things, stay away from those ones if you can. It is better to be delivering messages and powering rituals in this situation I think. Of course Reckoning might still come up as the strategy, which means you need to murderise your foe. Generally, if reckoning is declared against anyone, I go for a beatstick list with one or two heavy hitters in it, minimising the amount of casualties my opponenet will be able to inflict. Pandora might have to play out of theme in this case, but if reckoning comes up and you pop down Pandora, backed up with Nekima, Bishop and a couple of Teddies, then your opponent is gonna have a bad time! He might be able to gun down one of those models a turn with his line, but the scheme needs two. All in the meanwhile, Pandora can be zipping around behind her line of beatsticks dropping markers and laughing. General murderising tips that you might have overlooked though - Pandora has the edge over Fransisco in melee I think, if you can get her and the Poltergeist into within 2 inches of him. The giest is a lot easier to keep alive for this than people seem to think. Pandora can take a damage to reduce the damage the giest takes by one - Even on a strong hit Perdita will likely only do two damage to the totem because of incorporeal. If Perdita is ignoring Incorporeal, she is not also ignoring cover, so take that into consideration. When you are then in melee with Fransisco, his WP 8 is all he has going for him. He is taking a negative flip because of the poltergiest and you are not, because your close attack action is a Ca action not a Ml action. Even if you hit him for weak, he will take 3 damage because of misery, more if your sorrows are close. And I would think you can usually cheat up to more than weak damage with your opponent on a negative twist! Other tips I can give are get Bishop - I find he combos so well with Pandora it isn't even funny. He is a beasticky model that your opponent will have to invest time in putting down too, and whist those models do tend to go down at some point, it is eating AP that you opponent could be using for other things. Candy probably isn't helping too much against Perdita, so maybe look at leaving her at home. She does have a decent heal though, and if you can get her close enough so that sweets or sours will go off that is gonna be awesome too. If you are comfortable playing outside of theme, I recommend Slurids. They have a rule meaning their cover cannot be ignored and they have leap, which they can use to engage those damned Austringers and hopefully tie them up a bit. The same rule also prevents models from ignoring LoS to them,so the Austringers can't snipe them off the board first time they activate. They also give another negative twist if they haven't activated yet, so they are even harder to shoot against! They also come in Zoraida's box which ties into my next piece of advice. Get another in faction master! I am aware this can be difficult if you have no monies, but it really is a big thing. Like you, when I started out, I went first for the masters that I liked the look of, faction be damned! This made it really easy for my regular opponents to tailor a list to defeating what they knew I would likely field. Imagine your friends face when you declare neverborn, and he is expecting to shoot Pandora off the table, but instead you play Zoraida, and every time he shoots down a Silurid, Bad Juju pops back out to say hello! Or he gets charged from behind a wall by Lilith and her big FS! I really recommend picking up Lilith, as If you play the Viks, Lilith can be a beatstick like them whilst you are still learning the rest of her tricks. If you don't want to expand Neverborn, other good options are the Friekorps for expanding your outcasts - Their shooting is almost as good as the families! Or Leveticus, because honestly, nothing melts face quite like Leveticus! I don't know much about Ressers, so can help you less there, although you could pick up McMourning, run him as Guild and take some Ausrtingers of your own I hope all these wordings help you out some, Perdita can be a tricky fight, but don't let your friend put you off! You will beat her down one day and send him looking for the next OP thing to play.
  17. So I got Crossroads for Christmas, and peeked early like a naughty boy. I really like the new story scenarios, and some of them offer interesting questions to ask of the player base. What are some funky master combinations you can see together. My first thought was a Mei Feng, Colette combination, with Colette prompting Mei Feng all the way across the board using Doves to railwalk.
  18. I played against my first opponent from the states in a vassal game the other day. It was a lot of fun, and he was a great opponent but I did notice one thing. I have always said Arcanist with the second A being a short one like in ham. My opponents pronounces it with a longer a like in able or frame. I initially dismissed it as wrong, but then I started thinking about the root word of Arcane and it has been playing on me a little. The lack of an E at the end of the word to change the sound (Fellow Brits might recognise this as the 'magic E') would suggest the shorter version, but the root word has the E, so uses the longer one. English is rarely a simple language... So what about you guys? Do you say Arc-ay-nist or Arc-ah-nist?
  19. Or a sh tactical action. It seems to be a difference between wave 1 and wave 2. If it come up in the future I am sure it will be erratad
  20. As I thought, and have played it - Good to know my reading comprehension is not as bad as I was worrying.
  21. I thought about this a lot a while ago - What I tried to do was come up with a character for each of the factions that represented where Malifaux was now. In the year 2022 Malifaux has expanded beyond the borders of the city. Malifaux City is now the capital of Malifaux County, and the cities of Latiago and San Perdita are other large hubs. Other large corperations have arisen, somewhat loosening the Guild stranglehold, and the governor is now elected from those with the money and influence to stand (Although the winner is usually the guild backed candidate) The guild pov character for the fan fiction was Perdie Ortega. Named for her ancestor who gave her life to end the Nephilim threat, great things are expected of her. She rebels against this image and struggles to find her own identity against the backdrop of the Powerful Ortega family. Elizabeth Criid is campaigning for mayor of Malifaux City. She stands against the popular Carlos Ortega who is backed by the wealthy and influential guild. When she is approached by the Steamfitter Union for backing she discovers the Arcanist threat that her relative fought against is alive and well, and Elizabeth must decide if she should join them. Azreal is a Nephelim who lives in the city, stalking among those of high society. He preaches the doctrine of Saint Tuco, seeking to transform humans into Nephelim as was once done to him. When he comes across the blade Alrune, in possession of Lilith's memories, he must fight to maintain his own identity, whilst fighting to uncover the truth behind the Mother of Monster's death. Jack Sanderson leads the Friekorp of Malifaux, a mercenary unit dating back to the days of the frontier. The company has struggled to remain relevant as the dangerous days of the past have been left behind them. Threat of a new war on the horizon means the company might be needed again - but will they be ready? Molly Squiddpidge has lived for hundreds of years in her undead form. She grows weary as the world around her changes. New people claiming the title of ressurectionists look to her as an idol. Will teaching a new generation how to entrap souls as was once done to her bring her back from the melancholy she feels? Lily La Croix is a young gremlin woman fighting for gremlin rights in Malifaux. From her base in San Perdita city she co-ordinates protest and fights for her brothers and sisters rights. Her family pressure her to take more radical action. Can she keep her peacful values whilst still causing people to listen? Ken is a young man who works in the Little Kingdoms. He becomes slowly involved in the dealings of the Ten Thunders gang,l rising the ranks and seeing more and more of their schemes to take back power in Malifaux
  22. 3" Push for Angelica each time - 6" movement rather than walk movement for the model Angelica moves. Both of those are possible reasons, not that I always would depending on what I wanted from the movement at hand.
  23. When unburying a Soulstone Miner it has to be not within 6" of the enemy deployment zone or an enemy model. My initial reading of this was that I could not fulfill either of those conditions and must unbury so that the model was neither within 6" of the deployment zone or an enemy model. Some reading of pull my finger seems to suggest that I chose one or the other, so I could be right next to an enemy model if it is not within 6" of the deployment zone or in the enemy deployment zone if it is not within 6" of an enemy. I am aware that Pull my Finger is not always correct, but if I have been misreading the rule, then the model is much more powerful than I first thought. So help me dudes and dudettes on the forums, was I right before or have I been underestimating the miner?
