  1. I'd love to hear from some more experienced players but aside from a few useful tricks that certain puppets provide (like the nurse's healing (probably not a great example(yay nested parentheses!))) the difficulty in activating an out of faction puppet generally outweighs their usefulness. I don't know how other people have found 3 player games but even these 5 a side games have taken a long while. I think larger games may take too long.
  2. I've only played a handful of games myself so I can guarantee that these lists aren't balanced but hopefully this will kick off some discussion. With all three of us being new to the game we wanted to keep it small so only 5 puppets each. The idea was to get the hang of the rules more than anything so each side has one out of faction puppet pretty much just to demonstrate the differences for activation. Outcasts: Pokey Vik Misaki Ronin Convict Gunslinger Razorspine Rattler Resurrectionists: Seamus Bette Noire Nurse Rotten Belle Silurid The Guild: Lady J Judge Death Marshall Executioner December Acolyte We had fun with these, though as I say none of us has experience and we're a fairly casual lot anyway. It usually seemed to come down to one or two catastrophic moves which wiped out one side and left another severly weakened, though mostly down to 2 puppets against 1 rather than a whole crew left. Hope that helps
  3. I think that they would only gain an extra exhausted token if they take an action. So if they had an exhausted token, reactivated taking a rip but only moved they would not gain another exhausted token. The point of gaining more than one token is for upgrades like the Nurse's High Heels which grant powerful +1 for each exhausted token on the opponent. That's the only situation I've found so far where more than one exhausted token matters.
  4. I've only just got unstitched myself and never played the original but my understanding is that they are fairly different. In the Puppet Wars subforum there is a thread about using Markus as a fourth master and what his rules may be like, you could compare to that and see if you can do the same for the others. I'm sure everyone would appreciate the chance to use more puppets! Of course you could always give it a go (with your opponent's permission of course) and let us know how it turns out. Hope that helps
  5. Interesting, not that I'll be going but any idea what the price is going to be like? With no UK pre-orders I've just been guessing up to this point.
  6. I'm fairly certain I know the one you are talking about... where I saw it is another question. Edit: I don't think this is the one but it is close to what I was thinking of: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?27873-Poulpox-s-Nico-and-Marcus-add-ups
  7. The chronicle has some very high resolution images of the box contents. I guess the work benches etc are under the exhausted tokens because Nathan says they are plastic but I can't see them on the sprue. Assuming somewhere on this side of the pond stocks it I'll be geeting this asap I think. Those plastics are just beautiful.
  8. The counters look like the exhausted icon on the puppet wars website so hopefully the work benches are actually sculpted but we'll see soon hopefully.
  9. Ah, I had forgot about the game tokens, of course if these are modelled nicely this time then that makes a difference. I doubt I will be able to resist regardless but it may make it harder to sell to non-malifaux players as only a 2 player board game.
  10. Thanks, so does that mean there are 12 different pawns and three of each in the box? The 6 others are then Seamus and Justice and two sidekicks each? If that's the case then roughly 50 quid for the starter and then 20(?) for the multiplayer expansion makes this a lot harder to swallow.
  11. Not having bought a copy of the original I'm quite eager for the new version. Hopefully it will be out by May and I can persuade my girlfriend it would be an ideal gift! Looking at the box contents on miniaturemarket it lists 44 puppets and 2 fate decks. Counting up all the puppets available for the original I think there were 40 different ones. Are we expecting multiples or 44 unique characters? Also is it likely that just adding 2 more decks will make this 4 player? I suspect the answer to both these questions is simply "we don't know yet" but worth asking.
  12. Thanks for all the comments, it really does encourage me to get going on these when I get back. I think one of my first priorities will be setting up better lighting, the colours here aren't quite true and the two LED torches I used for lighting were a bit awkward to position. @RIosian the pipes on the boiler are separated just at the edge of the base to make life easier, for the other swarm the cable from the top is magnetised so that the arachnid can separate but the cable will probably need another join to be practical. I haven't figured out where best to cut it yet so I've just left it in one piece.
  13. First part of the crew painted. Despite the electrical arcs constantly falling off I've grown to really like them. I had a lot of fun painting this model, far more than I expected for something so simple. From the beginning I've tried to keep colours bright, I've always felt Malifaux should be a like an animated film. Anyway on to the pictures, c&c always appreciated. Next up will be the Brass Arachnid but due to travelling over the holidays it won't be until the New Year.
  14. I really like the vibrant colours, I think the malifaux minis particularly lend themselves to a slightly more cartoonish look. A bit of shading would help with things like hair but its difficult not to lose the bright colours. As others have said a plain background would be less distracting. great job so far!
  15. Just a very quick update, the flooring is now done. Things I have learned: Coffee stirrers make great floorboards, the grain stains well, they're easy to cut and sand and best of all hole cutters go through them easily. Always paint the base board before sticking things to it otherwise you have to spend ages trying to paint the gaps without painting the boards. It is a lot harder to make the boards on the bases line up with the display board than you might think! And just so I can remember and incase anyone is interested, the wood was stained with umber wash followed by black wash to show up the grain. Washed with very thin scorched brown followed by a second black wash. Heavily dry brushed with vermin brown and gloss varnished roughly to give the appearance of wear.
  16. Thanks for all the kind words, I'm really encouraged to get some paint on these guys. I'm not saying it will be fast but I'll post up as I make progress.
  17. I love the models for Malifaux but one of the things I like most about this hobby is personalising my armies/crews/warbands. So having finally got round to buying Ramos' starter box a good 18 months ago I decided to make scenic bases for them. As always projects take far longer than expected, what with not being able to find the parts you want, not knowing what parts you want, and of course other projects. Finally I have completed the building stage and have come here for your comments and criticism: I wanted to make the bases related to each other and a steam engine seemed to fit the bill for arcanists. So first is a boiler with an arachnid swarm... providing steam for the engine the steamborg is standing on... which in turn powers something which may or may not be a teleporter which the second swarm is on. Ramos is of course in charge of the controls. There are still a few wires to add and glazing for the windows but I'll add these during the painting process. All the arachnids are magnetised so at a later date I'll be making individual bases for them. Thanks for looking.
