  1. I think Hoffman spending all of his life as a polio cripple - and in the shadow of a handsome, capable older brother - excuses him from much information about his sexuality, one way or the other. It's specifically Cassandra who was trying to get a rise - literal or figurative - out of Ramos. While I always interpreted it as power being the only thing that arouses him, it could well be that in his younger days he preferred XY over XX. The only possible counter argument is the dance with Rusty Alyce in one of the early Wyrd Magazines, but he had hired Levi and her to do a job and it was part of the contact...
  2. How the TTB Under Quarantine book handled it with Emily Bellerose's profile - with coy hints about how golly, women sure do like her and are willing to help her - would be a lot better than even a one-shot character about which homosexuality is their only defining trait, or adding it to an existing character with no previous hints about it one way or the other - weirdly, my example was going to be Von Schill, but that might be interesting if handled well. I'm just not sure I'd trust ANYONE to handle that well. If they did something else, like confirm a Karina/Tara relationship with more than just hints (and avoided the obvious dirty joke), or have Colette interrupted while giving a lesson on "How to bend another woman around your finger," or had a male Beckoner seducing another man in the background while Lynch has to persuade Misaki not to go downstairs... that would be a lot more interesting. For the most part, there exist characters that COULD be homosexual, but it isn't filled in and referenced because it isn't important to them or the story. Like Major Kusanagi from GitS. The only reason that we know she's lesbian is because she got called at home. Other than that it has no impact on the story or do much for her character other than, "Well, she prefers AC over DC." Hmm... now I can't stop thinking about Von Schill. What if Nellie interviewed him, with a comment about "Rumors suggest that your falling out with Lucius was due to him turning you down for a tryst. What is your response?" He laughs and says, "Of course not. I like some muscle on my men, and I've never met a skinnier twig of a man than him..." Still could be taken in a non-sexual way, but still puts that out there. And explains the epic mustache.
  3. I'm sorry, am I wrong? I thought that was it. I could be wrong...
  4. actually, 13; it's always 13 for Henchmen which is (coincidentally) their cache + their soulstone value...
  5. I am considering that this may be my second Mulligan this month. My landlord claims that he's going to serve me an eviction notice, and I'm calling and raising with a letter (and photographs!) to Health & Human Services about the unfit living conditions here (Mold? Black widow spiders? Cracked foundation?) AND a call to the local electric company about the second house hooked up to our electricity bill... So I have no idea if I will get the chance to paint. It's POSSIBLE I will, so I'm not saying, "Yep, July's my second mull!" but I won't bet either way.
  6. and what a way to dismiss everything that I wrote. It's a good thing this forum doesn't have 'dislike' options. By 'similar' I meant 'easy to use.' Jpegs that I have to save individually, then stack on a grid in photoshop to make sure they're sized correctly, THEN export as a .pdf myself is not easy to use - it took me near an hour of work, and it's a task that I'm familiar with.
  7. Yeah, as individual jpegs not sized properly or placed in a nice, neat formatted pdf which creates cards perfectly sized to match the old ones - just like all of the Privateer Press updates. Which have been a lot more frequent than the Malifaux ones - I mean, yes, bigger company and bigger game, but they really do the updates right. Of course, considering that the pdfs Malifaux put out aren't flattened and take an eternity to load unless you're using a high-end computer, maybe being forced to make my own printouts isn't so bad... My poor tablet and Ripples of Fate... And please, take note: I like Malifaux. I like it a LOT. This is just a simple complaint, something that if was changed would make it even closer to perfection.
  8. In fact, owning ALL Masters is kind of a bad thing playwise - too many models and too many options tend to overlap, leading to situations where you THINK one model can do something when in fact it can't. Two or three Masters per faction is what I've been recommending to people - that way you've got some choices if a Strategy/Scheme mix is bad for your main Master, but you're not overwhelmed by the decisions available, and you don't have to memorize a TON of rules. There's also this to read if you get further into the game, have mastered some of the basics of play, but can't quite figure out which models do what: I should... I should signature that.
  9. @RikLok, is Iggy sealed? Because the fire... is... well... wrong. Fire goes from lightest to darkest, with the lightest part INSIDE, and the outside being the darkest. You've got it inversed, and it doesn't really look like fire as much as just reddish-orange tentacles. I know, it's an odd thing to complain about, but it's such an easy thing to get right that when I see it wrong it just... gripes me a bit.
  10. My only real problem with that website is simple: Minimum order of 10. If you're just looking to get one or two of the errata'd cards from a recent release, then that website is less than helpful - it's actually a pain, because then you have to either buy cards you don't need and won't need or club in with friends - and it's doubly aggravating because technically Wyrd has already distributed the correct cards for 'free' via the pdf and there's no good reason that Wyrd couldn't've done something similar to PP with printable pdfs that easily came out and folded over to make new cards. As a Henchman, explaining it to players is triply aggravating - yeah, sure, I could offer to go all in on a big order that would issue correct cards to EVERYBODY, but what happens after that, when a new player drops in and says, "Golly, Misaki sure looks cool" or something similar about an errata'd model? Don't get me wrong. I don't care for PP's games. But with this website they've finally accepted that if they're going to change cards in an effort to achieve game balance, they'd best well make the cards themselves as easy to access as possible. I think most of us would REALLY like it if Wyrd did the same, at least with the cards they've changed from the box versions.
  11. Yeah, wasn't Carlos supposed to be out this month? I want him quite a bit.
  12. What I've done that is NOT HARD and looks fairly well is: 1) Paint the whole thing a medium red 2) wash it with a white 3) wash it with yellow once that's dried 4) drybrush on a darker red on the highest points 5) put some dark grey or black on the farthest reaches if it's supposed to be a smoky fire Don't forget to splash a bit of yellow on nearby skin for a nice OSL effect. Gods, I forgot how bad my camera was when I took these battletech images. Oh well, the basic idea shows up well enough.

    Fanboy's Craft

Being a collection of the miniatures that iamfanboy has painted in aid of playing Malifaux with the proper tabletop appearance.
  14. @wizuriel: Search "How to paint Eldar gemstones" and there are lots of step-by-step instructions that I've been using for... well, uh. Decades. Literal, factual decades. I now feel old. I'm... I'm not sure I like how rough he looks, though. What kind of spraybase did you use? Or did you dust him with white spray at some point? Because it really detracts from the paintjob IMHO. So I'm still in the game! Last month had to use a mulligan (I almost died due to a respiratory infection, which also left my hands extremely unsteady as I recovered), but this month I finished off Von Schill (15), his totem (3), 2 Freikorpsmann (10), Student of War (4), and Hodgepodge Effigy (4) for 36 total thus far. The two Freikorpsmen I painted previously are in the background - he got two extras as part of a lot and paid to have them painted. I won't argue. Sadly, I found Von Schill boring to paint. Yes, he has a great pose, but unfortunately the scheme that the customer and I agreed on is dull, dull, dull - they're supposed to say "Quiet professional mercs" versus the Vik's "Flashy lady mercs" stuff. *sigh* I dunno. I wanted her to have an orphanage dress look to her, as though the Viks plucked her out and she started learning from them, but it came out boring. I'm also a bit displeased at how the lumpy and uneven the face looks when blown up 4x, but it was necessary to get her scowl looking correct on the miniature itself. If I buy a Viks box for myself she gets a bright and colorful dress, and I might sculpt it a bit long so it's dragging on the ground and obviously WAAAY to big for her. But I do like her widdle sandled toesies... I have hopes of finishing off 3 Daydreams and 3 Alps, along with a some other stuff that I've put together in the meantime: Coryphee, Insidious Madnesses, Ice Dancers, and a Bandersnatch. Amusingly, my box of Insidious Madnesses accidentally came with a Blessed of December instead of one Madness, but I'm not complaining - an $8 tradeup and something that i have the card for already? In future months, I may be dipping into Ressers, if I don't get Rasputina and Titania first to finish off my Arcanists and Neverborn...
  15. As always, being the Infantry Mine Detector on the hard parts so we don't have to suffer as much as you do. Thanks!
  16. Frankly, that Shadow Emissary is a beautiful enough model that it makes me WANT to go Ten Thunders. It has nothing to do with wanting to throw an Eastern Dragon at my Shadowrun players, I assure you...
  17. And by some marvelous coincidence, the Burning Man appeared above London almost at the same time as Cherufe and the Governor-General disappeared...
  18. I'll be giving demos of Malifaux at the Sonora Comic-Con, a new event this year, from 1 PM to 3 PM, at the Nerdtopia Table. I'll also be around the convention, wearing a Wyrd Henchman shirt, if anyone wants to ask questions. Now, I don't think that a single person who WILL be there is also on this forum and curious about Malifaux without having already played it, but hey. The information is now there.
  19. Why Black Blood Shaman over Doppel-chan? She gives you better control over initiative - vital in a small crew - doubles up on your highly effective attacks from Nekima, and what's more is relatively frail once deprived of her Manipulative. Move her forward early in a turn and DARE your opponent to kill her and eat a Killjoy to the face. Frankly, I'd drop the Mature Nephilim from either version of the list for Angel Eyes. 4 Lilith w/ Living Blade, Transfixing Gaze, Wings of Darkness 10 Angel Eyes w/ Obsidian Talons 14 Nekima w/ Thousand Faces 12 Killjoy w/ Thousand Faces 8 Doppelganger w/ The Mimic's Blessing +2 SS Cache Lilith moves models around or kills them. Nekima and Angel Eyes team up to murder many different things. Doppelchan either schemes solo or works with Nekima - or dies to bring out Killjoy. The extra SS lets you leverage them for either protecting your SS users or Wings of Darkness's extra draw, rather than being forced to choose between them. If I were going full munchkin and trying to make this as 'competitive' as possible, I'd remove Obsidian Talons and Killjoy's Thousand Faces for Primordial Magic... more card draw is better card draw - and would let me swap Wings of Darkness for Beckon Malifaux. But that isn't what the OP wants, and I can understand why.
  20. I absolutely second Angel Eyes - she's amazing in a Neverborn beater crew, because sometimes your charging models don't QUITE finish the enemy off, letting them strike back and tying up your models. Angel Eyes solves that problem like a boss. Very good target to carry Obsidian Talons as well, since she really doesn't NEED upgrades to function (and in a 5-model crew you're likely to be out-activated anyway, making Strange Alliances wasted ss), freeing up the Mature Nephilim's slot. I'm starting to think that she's a crutch for me, however, because she's almost always the second model I reach for. "Summoning Dreamer? Angel Eyes. Defensive Pandora? Angel Eyes..." If only Tuco were as good as her. Neverborn gunline, away!
  21. So I might be mulliganing this month. My urgency to move has been stepped up. Last week I packed some of my books and when I tried to move my bookshelf, it fell apart. Rotted clear through. And there was a massive sprout of black, green, and red mold in a triangle all down the wall behind the bookcase. But I'll be declaring what I didn't finish last month: Von Schill (15), his totem (3), 2 Freikorpsmann (10), Student of War (4), and Hodgepodge Effigy (4). 36 total. I might be able to find a day off sometime in May to do these guys.
