  1. I was thinking the same thing. Amazing box, but I was rather disappointed in Titania. Her crew easily outshines her. My only hope is that it makes her a possible choice for a future nightmare or alt-sculpt target. Still, so many awesome goodies otherwise, continues pillaging my wallet for some of the coolest mini's available on the market.
  2. I painted up some old metal Stolen to use for Changelings. White hair and silver eyes makes them look sufficiently creepy! I am sorta loath to switch to the real models when they come out
  3. Coming into my final game with a 2-2 record (more on those two losses in a second), I faced a rat generation list for game 5. Just casual observation, there were at least two other rat generation lists out of the 12 people playing in my row of tables. Earlier in the day when round 1 results were posted, I noticed that Outcasts were extremely over-represented in the 1-0 category. Some back of the napkin math counting came up with just about 50% of the 1-0 people were playing Outcasts. Doesn't mean they were all rats or anything about balance, but it was shocking even before I ran into rats. I certainly struggled a little in my last game due to activation control. Playing a Lilith list meant I wanted to get up and engage my opponent, but I had to activate all my stuff while my opponent was just playing around with rats in his deployment zone until I was done. This meant by the time Ashes and Dust and a Desolation Engine decided to come play, I had nothing left to respond to them. My opponent was good natured and drinking by this point in time, so it was a fun game since we knew neither of us were going to place, but it was pretty one-sided. Had I encountered it earlier, it would have been very demoralizing. I don't mind losing games. Last year at Adepticon I lost games and I learned a lot and I had fun enough to come back a second year. This year my losses were largely un-fun. Two gremlin stuffed pig lists and a rat list. Going up against the same list twice in one tournament was uncool. Especially since both rats and stuffed pigs feel a bit "gimick-y". My opponents played them well... I thought I was clever by rooting the stuffed pigs so they couldn't explode, but Trixiebelle just Gremlin Lured them so they could move again. But even playing against it twice I didn't feel like there was a lot I could do differently. I'm not sure that means they need changes, but it did leave me feeling a little bit like tournament play wasn't worth it in the future if these kinds of lists are what I'll mostly face.
  4. No, we were using the table of contents to go to the entire section where it talks about how to deploy
  5. Interesting. We had the small manual we were referencing, not the complete one. There, it kept specifying "within" and not completely. (Page 78 & 79). Direct quote: I only have that copy with me right now, I'll have to check the big book. But I'm looking at the entire deployment section in the "rules only" manual and it definitely is not saying completely within. EDIT: Aha! So 78-79 deals with deploying and how to deploy. There it's not specified. But now that I'm looking at an electronic copy, I found page 92 does say "completely within". So I feel like there's no doubt, but we had several people pouring through manuals and all of us just went to 78-79. Nobody thought to look under the section on page 92
  6. An interesting question came up this week concerning deployment. The rules for deployment state "deploy within X inches of the" corner/edge/etc. It doesn't say completely within or say anything about behind behind a line. Since in other places, the rules indicate that if ANY part of the base is "within X inches", it counts... is that true for deployment? In other words, if deployment is "within 12 inches of the corner", does that mean you can deploy a model with the front half the base 12.5" away from the corner, but the back side of the base is 11.99 inches from the corner? I don't know how much impact this really has on the game, but it was interesting from an intellectual standpoint. I've never seen someone play like this.
  7. I need something Neverborn. Dopplegangers I think have a lot of possibilities... "I said what? No, that must have been a doppleganger" "Don't mind me... it's OK if you're already engaged"
  8. Tortoise and the Hare? Though a much more Neverborn-ish take on them...
  9. Yep, I'm getting the same bug with the Dark Carnival Coryphee My Aionus is working fine though
  10. Yes... balance. I did the same thing you did. I played very safe, saving 1's and 2's, buying all the cool toys. My campaign rating went through the roof. I posted in these forums asking if I was missing something. But I kept playing. At one point I played a game of CR 8 vs my opponents CR -3. And I still won. The campaign rating system is a balance. If you're doing well, winning games, not getting injured, getting new stuff... your crew will end up stronger. If your opponent loses a bunch and has a bunch of injuries, their crew is getting weaker. By adding CR you can have balance in the games. Otherwise all it means is the player who wins the first couple of games will have more money and be able to dominate the whole campaign. This way, the underdog gets a boost in terms of extra scrip and extra soulstones. But what do they do with extra scrip? They buy upgrades or models with it. If they buy upgrades, their CR goes up and they lose the advantage. If they buy models with it, they have too big of an arsenal so they can't play with it all and the game balances out. If they just keep their cash it's effectively as if they didn't get it. Once I realized that (and I was playing in a campaign of 8 and a campaign of 3 people when I learned this, so it works for both sizes), I stopped worrying. Sure, it's a bad idea to try to take Assassinate when your opponent has a 14 SS cache, but even then I still won the game. I even managed to run them out of Soul Stones with "death by a 1000 cuts" and they had to keep spending SS to damage prevent 1 damage from multiple sources. The upgrades are worth every SS and every CR you pay for them.
  11. Thumbs up from me, that's how I generally see them. Sure, they'll no longer take a cheated in severe damage from Nekima or something of similar weight class, but for 4 SS, should they? Usually HtK ended up useless on Metal Gamin since you were likely only hitting for 1 damage anyway, except for the few models who have "ignore armor". Even more to Moxypoo's point about most attacks being weak damage... if you're hitting someone with armor, you're also probably less likely to cheat high. Cheating in severe to do 2 damage instead of 1 damage is probably not worth the card.
  12. I was a little bummed to see comments turned off. Will they be turned on later? I didn't expect to win anything with my entry, but I was hoping to get feedback to continue improving my skills I suppose I can re-post to a thread after the voting is over...
  13. I was hoping to see clarification on the Changelings and their engagement range. We've been playing it as "no engagement range" since they have no Ml attacks of their own, but this has felt odd to me since we discussed it. The Lure stuff makes sense, I hadn't considered the ability to "lure dance around". Though the continued use of "shortest route possible" introduces potential confusion Direct example from my game last night. Lilitu lures a model that is 7 inches away. The shortest path is directly towards Lilitu, but that happens to go entirely through severe terrain, ending 5" away (4" walk). However, if the target went in a very slight arc around the edge of the severe terrain, the model would be able to walk the full 4" and end up 3" away. I've always thought the "end closest" would mean the model would walk around the edge of the pond and end 3" away. All the "shortest route" makes me thing the model would actually go direct through the pond and end up 5" away though...
  14. I'll certainly toss my two cents at this... I'd love to see DCR miniatures. The artwork is fantastic and Wyrd miniatures are some of the best in the business. Seeing DCR characters made into miniatures would certainly make me break out my wallet without reservation.
  15. Entry submitted. I think. It's in the gallery "pending approval", so I think I did it right
  16. Lilith is my favorite master and you can probably find several posts concerning her in recent threads, but there's similar things I always add. Lilitu is a great Nephilim with black blood and a great lure that I enjoy using with Lilith. I prefer Lilitu over Beckoners unless you need minions for something.Barbaros is expensive for being fairly pillow fisted, but his Challenge ability is a godsend in many matches. And pretty survivable with Nimble means he can tie up a lot of the enemy for a while. Too expensive to be a scheme runner, but he can do the job in a late turn in a pinch. And he has pushes, which Lilith likes.Mysterious Emissary isn't released unless you have a Neverborn avatar model from 1E, but it's pretty nice with lures/pushes, and the ability to summon Changelings can give some nice scheme runners. Beware, Lilith and the Emissary will fight over your masks though.Waldgeists - Lilith loves terrain and these little guys do as well. Plus they are great little tarpit units. Or big since they're on 40mm. They are cheap and durable. One of the few models I'll take 2 of in a listPrimordial Magic - If Rush of Magic on Lilith is good, then surely having it twice is better! For totems, the Cherub is fun in an interact heavy situation, but is harder to use. More situational. The Puke Snake is 100% gold all the time. If you stone for cards more than once a game, you'll be happy with this guy since he gives you the same benefit for the same cost. Plus he's a sneaky scheme marker at the end of the game if you need it.Nekima is an obvious inclusion, but so expensive. Also fairly fragile for being so expensive, which she makes up for by being so kill happy. If she gets focused she'll die fast and waste all those stones. If you can kill everything first or keep her alive through other means (i.e. Barbaros challenge), she's totally worth it.Black Blood Shaman - Very much a support piece and I often leave him at home, but I should really use him more. He really only works in black blood heavy crews, but has great tricks for them. You'll notice there's a few things missing from this list. Like terror tots and young/mature. They are fine pieces, but I think other things tend to work better with Lilith. I rarely feel the need to have them. One tot for a scheme runner if I have points, but usually I'm OK without that. That also means no grow lists. I really think grow lists are a trap and too hard to pull off effectively. You can certainly grow your models, but usually this takes enough of your attention that you lose the game. The other thing to keep in mind with Lilith is that her giant sword of hers is not her best option. Not initially anyway. Lilith is more fragile then she looks. I played her as a bruiser for many games before I started to really make her work well. She's better off hanging back and using her other tricks first. She can always mop up with her sword later in the game, or chop up anything that tries to deliver a message or assassinate her, but don't put her in your vanguard. Use Tangle Shadows, her own upgrade lure, other models lures and pushes to send stuff to her to chop up in a pile of Neverborn. Isolate their models and kill them, while tying up the rest of the enemy crew with waldgeists and Barbaros.
  17. Very true. That's about... oh, six thousand posts or so that most people can't see. Facebook is great for talking about upcoming events and sharing pics. Discussion of any depth, however.... Yeah... I hate trying to follow along on A Wyrd Place for any actual discussion. It's fun to see pictures of stuff people post there, but I'd much rather come here to have any type of meaningful interaction
  18. Question concerning multiple henchmen in an area. At the FLGS we do have a henchman already and he does do some events and demos. So we're not lacking for a henchmen, but does that automatically preclude any other henchmen? I have been assisting him with demos (just taught a new person to play this week in lieu of a Nythera game) and events, but assumed that since we already had a henchman for our FLGS, I'd be ineligible. Or is multiple henchmen acceptable?
  19. All finished with my entry, I just need to take better pictures. The first set did not turn out so great. My painting won't win any prizes, but I look forward to hearing feedback!
  20. Check the wording on Pariah's Soul and it should be quite clear. "When this model is killed or sacrificed, it is not killed or sacrificed. Instead, bury this model" In other words, Assassinate not only isn't automatic against Leveticus, it's nearly impossible against Leveticus unless you have an ability to attack buried models, i.e. Tara's crew.
  21. Paralyze is definitely the one condition I would want the SoBB for. I just haven't had a chance to use the SoBB when my opponent was also successful with the paralyzes.
  22. 1) Once you pass a horror duel, you are immune to horror duels from that model until the end of the turn (or another rule says otherwise). So you only end up making one. You pass, you're good for the rest of the turn. You fail, your activation immediately ends. 2) If either of two models are in the engagement range of one of them, they are both considered engaged. Meaning no charges, randomization during ranged attacks, etc. Doesn't matter if your opponent has a shorter range than you if they are already in your range, you're still engaged. 3) This is in the FAQ, and the answer is yes 4) I'm not 100% sure on this one, but I am fairly confidant that the answer is yes 5) This is in the FAQ and the answer is all models 6) You don't flip if you relent
  23. I think it's important to remember we're talking about what the rules are and now what they should be or what models real life the best. Weird interactions don't necessarily invalidate a rule, they just mean it was potentially not intended. I do see where you're coming from re: flipping up with down, and logic would definitely dictate that in real life, a flying creature would be able to ignore the gap. However, the table itself and empty space are not "terrain" for the purposes of the game, and so the two situations are not equivalent and a model with flying, as written, cannot ignore the empty space. There is also nothing in the rules that allows a model to stand in empty space, so I'd say the model would fall. There is also nothing in the rules that says a flying model falls while it is moving. That's the whole reason this has become a debate. The rules don't clearly provide a direction for this. This gives us a few options for interpretation: 1) We decide that if it's not clearly defined in the rules, then flying works just like walking and flying models fall. 2) We decide that if it's not clearly defined in the rules, then flying works as we think it should and flying models don't fall during their move. 3) We look at other rules like the ability to ignore flying up/down over a 5" wall and apply that to other cases where it's 5" vertical the model is moving over, but in this case it's a crevice instead of a wall. We can also apply rules like ending 4" up requires spending 4" of move to get there and saying that ending 4" down requires 4" of move to get down, rather than falling for free. I'm not trying to argue for #2, since we already know a flying model can move through a 50" tall object, which I've certainly never seen a real flying thing do (unless incorporeal, which I also haven't ever seen). I'm saying that in this case, we have relevant rules which apply. I'm arguing for #3 because it's basically an inverse to the rules we already have.
