  1. When a doll is summoned it immediately casts hem. If you summon the doll inside models auras which cause damage in this case fears given form - you hand out damage passively without spending activation points. You can still condition spam before the doll activates and fails the test to suffer damage if you so choose but I'd normally build for damage or conditions with only minimal cross over.
  2. I thought that was just anyone who plays Sandeep?
  3. The Malifaux cross stitch and needle work society.
  4. 2 models with fgf, one is the Weaver, summon a doll it hems, if hem fails it may need to be obeyed to hem again. Once hemed it activates fails fears given form twice and drops a scrap marker for a wicked doll or save for teddy. Repeat with a wisp for two scrap a turn. You can still paralyze etc before it activates and dies but this isn't the set up I'd be going for if I wanted conditions spammed on the doll. With vasilisa having 2 obey options for the doll and the recent reduction in cost she may become a go to for this. So you are looking at approximately 1/2 your pool for 2 fgf +Weaver, handbag, second enforcer or henchman and 2 wisps - 6 activations. From there I'd be looking at stitched etc to benefit from Weaver and Vasilisa. Plus when you really need something damaged obeyed stitched or banraku with wicked dolls condition can be nasty and gamble your life is abhorrent against a voodoo doll if you lose a fgf or need something finished immediately. Alternatively if you are going for raw activation control run this with a third wisp and the spawn mother then hope for crows. You may need to use the spawn mother as the second fgf holder and drop vasilisa for something like juju but I'd be weary of feeling like a mixed bag doing this if I went with anything outside of bayou and dolls.
  5. Take one whisp and it will almost always be a priority target -especially when advanced for doll range. Two is standard for effective use, three is unneeded spam. Also two with either Weaver or spawn mother in a crew makes sense. Especially if running a doll factory with double fears and dropping the doll straight into the auras.
  6. The wording changes are exceptions to the rule. I'm hoping the next one comes out with a stronger focus on wording changes. Either that or just a 2.5 book with an overhaul of all errata'd models and upgrades with a few additions. I'd just limit his support function to puppets only. functional and fluffy. Or at least (so too many people don't cry) make it puppets and neverborn minions only.
  7. That and the obnoxious number of buffs other gaurdsmen offer. Df flips from mounted guard with additional walk and wp from sergeant etc. It might make it worth keeping a few around, especially if you're running the above with hounds and/or riflemen. Taking guild patrols and urban militia another step towards functional.
  8. Silurids are a concern, compared to their thunders counterpart they are sub-par but as they are still very good at scoring vp there is some division of opinions on them.
  9. Weaver is great if you want to buff your dolls wk, throw webs around and resummon loses. Against Levi you might even get to deny some summoning but this can swing both ways. The issue is she is fragile and likes a swarm of underlings to buff and resummon - you're facing a hyper aggressive Levi list. So if you can't rush everything around behind blocking terrain to scheme a swarm is unlikely to help. With shadow effigies condition, cover and defensive stance you might weather the storm. Mimics blessing is one upgrade I would commonly consider on Weaver to make her more of a nuisance to target. If running this kind of swamp them list I would have gone with inescapable trap and recover evidence. Other than that I'd say other posts have covered anything else worthwhile I might say.
  10. We've been going strong locally with a grow league for new players. I'll try and keep the momentum going with Master level.
  11. Possibly an association with someone cowed into submission. The almost hunched over sniveling sidekick feel. Usually portrayed as devious and cowardly with a sadistic streak. The other stereo type would have been a lumbering dimwit but he lacks the stereotypical tank and bash abilities. I prefer the idea of the scribe as a rather over dressed Basil Faulty. .."Do you have an appointment!?" ...rather than Manuel.
  12. Easy make a conversion and it becomes legal - get some green stuff and give him a tricorn. Really looking forwards to getting round to focused guild Lucius play, guards with Dashel and mounted guard, just need to get all my neverborn competitive before I can spend the time I want on my redcoat lists. The problem with these guys has always been that on paper they have some great abilities but when you need to meet those tn's or actually apply them in game they don't come through, maybe in a list with hounds etc you can burn out cards and activation to make them do their job, at least that might make it feel a little more like a raid or military exercise.
  13. Don't get me wrong lure is better than sirens call and their trigger is wonderful but unless you take illuminated -which I refuse to do-I can't see them shining.
  14. The only mimic I would say not worth investing in is beckoners. All the others are beneficial if situational. Sadly for a beckoners cost I can get more out of a performer which is sad for themed or fluff lists but who knows maybe Lucius likes the occasional dancing girl. Looking forward to trying out Vogel and the investigator.
  15. The best hires from guild in my opinion are: Pathfinders we like having access to explosions and traps and ignoring armour or hard to wound. Austringers mainly for card discard and deliver orders but vendetta is coming back Mr Queeg - push combo with pounces, extra leap or trap drop etc. - makes the tooth and rougarou thing so much crueler. Guild hounds- scheme marker set up - issue commands -push out 1pt charge on + flips from Lucius Mounted guard + defense flips, charge combo with rougarou etc. Lawyers - hard to wound on glass cannons Dashel, riflemen, sergeant, guardsmen and terracotta warrior have done nothing for me so far in neverborn.
  16. Something you rely upon on or lean heavily upon which if removed you would struggle or feel less stable in the absence there of. Seems fitting. I call some of my masters crutches and when I stopped using those I was more comfortable and confident with my w/l/d crashed. Some models or upgrades fit into the same category, remove them from their usual line up and a player can spend a whole game fumbling in their abscence wishing they had taken them as they fail to adapt. In a worse case you could see it cause something akin to a mild anxiety attack brought on by power object fixation. When it's a model which a larger portion of the player base constantly take I think that's more of an issue especially when you constantly see it over promoted on forums etc. I doubt we'll ever see a war gaming community that doesn't develop the crutch / o.p - not competitive scale. It's just the nature of 20% of a population who play specifically to win (if the numbers are to be believed).
  17. Would love to see her get some kind of upgrade or fix to make her work, she seems like she could be really fun in concept
  18. Most of mine are either masters i'm too familiar with within a faction, i.e Zoraida and Somer are very hard to turn down when available (for me) where as someone like Lucius or Titania I play a lot not because I'm as good with them yet but because I want to be. Or master specefic crutches which I use too regularly with certain masters. Zoraida - due to paralyze spam I hate not taking in a Nurse and now I suppose we add Wisp to that. - in gremlins Id probably add warpig to her as It has won me too many games to remember. Lucius - Queeg - either for pathfinders or for Rougarou Collodi - Mannequin - scheme marker Frisbees are so hard to pass over Pandora - Weaver, almost always take weaver Titania - Emissary - I try to treat the Emissary like a rider where they only show up in times of desperate need - Titania and sometimes Lucius make me break this rule finding the emissary in crews too often. Neverborn in general: widow weaver and Emissary are my most common hires . . . probably too common. Gremlins - slop haulers in almost every list even Zoraida for appetizing on the hemmed model. Most common crutches I see in play from opponents - Guild - Francisco - Everyone else - Johann Outcasts and thunders went through a stage locally with snipers in every list, that seems to have died down a little. Crutches normally form because either - the model is below cost for what it does or a player becomes so familiar with a piece they use it like a precision tool. Both "can" become issues but the first is certainly the greater of the two, precision players also often specialize in a limited number of masters and crew builds which is very crutchy but it's sometime just because they are so comfortable and confident in those masters/builds that they do literally feel like they hobble without them. Then there's the upgrades: I have over reliance on fears given form with Titania and Pandora but also for one Zoraida build.... less so with other master/henchman combos.
  19. I think that took more damage from open hiring options and mixed bag lists instead of master based hiring. It will never go all the way back but I would like see fewer mixed bags and tighter limitations. A prime example of this would be Barbaros with Nekima or Titania given the less than civil war. Francisco with everyone at all times like he's the kwisatz haderach or something etc etc. I doubt it'll ever go back but I can dream.
  20. I'm personally interested in attempting a fees spam list, lawyers, Vogel, changelings and doppelganger. It will probably crash and burn but I imagine it to work maybe once on anew "Elite crew" player where you pop condition remover and then go to town on their models 1 by 1. It then simply becomes a race for survival which Lucius might just tip in my favor. I feel ino neverborn it will need the emissary but does feel it would fit the court build more in guild with the judge and executioner maybe jury.
  21. Graves, Tannen, doppelganger and changelings are musts if you want to run predominantly mimics. Candy is certainly good now with Lucius due to positive flips but she works better in lists where you can excuse yourself using the weaver. Lawyers are great for when your going for full survivability - full mimic build - lacks hitting power. If your using Vogel you will likely want lawyer for the extra fees option once you pop their condition remover. Beckoners are not often a better choice than a performer which is sad. Especially if you are running a lawyer. Terracotta warriors are better in guild Lucius but can still have their value in neverborn. Then it's upto your build. Faery king Lucius will mainly want changelings and maybe a doppelganger but will want queeg. A variation is neverborn hunting grounds with rougarou mounted guard and hounds. Bayou expedition will want more guard than mimics but can benefit from changelings and ironically a lawyer. Ballroom uses all of them- all about doppelganger and Tannen locking down with chatty while your free to interact. Nephilim build probably graves and doppelganger. Nightmares and city streets - sub par pandora - candy, weaver etc and some guard probably path finders and austringers. The rest are probably mixed bag or spam lists, spam lists will include 1-2 attacks worth stealing a doppelganger and 2-3 changelings.
  22. Sadly this seems to be the trend. Hopefully gg18 is "diverse" (not to use a buzz word) enough to require more adaptability. This in turn would however simply moves from one list of masters being most played to another. Each of said masters will then get worked on till it has set lists to create a sense of adaptability or simply cover bases. As long as the gaining grounds shakes things up enough each year there should be a shift in viable models for each build. If nothing else this might help people get through their collection. Mine is a sprawl I'll never get through, painting or game time. Specialising in 2-3 masters per faction is normally enough to get competitive, when you tighten that to 1 master and a few set lists you have very tight but perhaps rigid game play.
  23. I'd compare him to the claw (autumn knights) in both how under rated he is for what he "can" do in the right situation and the purpose for hiring. In both cases I'm looking to hit with the -df flips and drop the model into things with pounce to have it mauled to death. This will normally mean losing a very high and suited card but I will happily flick out the red if I must to give an important model -df flips especially if they are integral to my opponents machine, then let punches in bunches do the job.
  24. Fixed that for you. Just can't understand how they've avoided eratta for this long, they are long overdue for a nerf. Just look at them, even compared to autopsies and wastrels...plain broken. Sorry went slightly off topic.
