  1. Hi all. I really dislike the Hungering Darkness model, what I've taken to calling the "Sad-Pole." Sorry. But why mince words? Anyway, Lynch's skeleton shadow seemed so cool to be just a minor bit in the model, so I made the attached baddie in his image all big-like. A little backstory: my buddy who runs Lynch (Travis) had asked me to make him some Brilliance counters, so I took translucent Sculpey, cut it thin into 30mms, and baked it a little too much. The result was a "well-handled" look, browned ivory kind of feel. These then got fake beach glass, all blue, and we called them "Heisen-meth Brilliance." This is echoed in my Huggy's base. Also, his idea had been to make some 30, 40, and 50mm poker-chip bases to reflect the Honey Pot being a gambling house. These 40s are mounted on a Warmahordes pewter 50mm. Now, without further ado... inspiration on the left, my work on the right. Boring tech spec details available on request (source models, etc.). He still needs a bit of work, but I like where this is heading.
  2. It's a clay punch. I got a set of 5. For 50mm bases I usually get a real base and make a small impression, cut it more square and bake, cutting/ sanding after.
  3. Hi all. I was cleaning the hobby area yeasterday and rolled all the rogue bits of Sculpey and Fimo clays I found into one bit ball, flattened, and made some swirly bases. The pic below is in its full-sized glory at goawayskips.tumblr.com. Best side is showing, and some have neat patterns on both faces. The problem is that I have literally no one I can think of to use them for. So the first people/persons who want these unique bases (13x 30 mm, 11x 40mm) get them. Willing to drop a quick pass of glossy finish or dullcote on them if need be. They're light and as long as it's not going crazy far internationally, it's on me for shipping. Comment or PM what you'd like/how many. PS: the wee little one off to the far right was just some leftover. Also, I realized later that I had the ability to do some minor (MINOR) stamping into new, unbaked bases: 0-9, A-Z, some smaller gears, Chinese characters, etc. A $2 block of clay will get quite a few nice bases out of it, so always willing to attempt some commission work. I'll put some pics up when I do a batch.
  4. Hi all. A word of advice: a few years back, WOTC put out a game called Dreamblade that was all pre-painted minis. Fun, actually, and I was sad to see it go the way of...well...anything that isn't MTG, Pokémon, or D&D that WOTC releases. Anyway, the minis are lots of fun and at times horrifically grotesque...and perfect for some proxying in Malifaux! When I was trying on the Dreamer for size, I took Dreamblade Minis for most of his crew and they added a great dimension to the whole nightmare feel. Plus, they chop up real nice for body part counters.
  5. I'm just a little ways away from having the painted crew requirement for Hench-duties completed. I plan for sure on making LJ available for demoing. The question is, who of my remaining crews I have in my posession for sure that should be demo-ready. Here's who I have for sure: -- Ortegas -- Hoffman and friends -- Ramos boxed set (and a few odds and sods from Hoffman) -- Rasputina boxed set -- Freikorps (and a few Mercs) -- LJ -- Criid (mostly; no Sam as I had swapped Criid for Raspy with another player) -- Dreamer My buddy also has, as boxes only: -- Zoraida -- Lynch -- Nico -- Seamus. Both of us have some other models that would work well-- Austringer, Guild Guard, Executioner, etc.-- so there's some depth. Thoughts?
  6. Apologies to my Twitter/Tumblr people (that'd be @infocorn and goawayskips respectively), but I wanted to forum-show my Dreamer crew. The theme for Bad Dreams was "Smoke and Mirrors." This was done with small dollhouse mirrors on each base (a not-always-perfect-but-workable concept) and polyfill batting (six hundred pounds for $2!). With the "smoke" in place, I teased it like Jersey Mall Hair in the 1980s, and then nailed it with professional-grade hairspray. When I go to dullcote the lot of them here, I think that will help as well. Or maybe make them explode. IDK for chemistry. While certainly not perfect, I was really happy (for once) with how I did here. My father suggested I start selling painted crews. I suggested he put the crack pipe down. But someday maybe (no). The Class Photo: Done. Stitched Together: background, coming out of a sewing basket all Circus-Tent style, fore Tim Burton Joker style on a sewing machine. Coppelius, here as a WIP, but I didn't get a good detail shot of him done. and lastly, Chompy and Dreamer... Up next are Freikorps and likely a stripping of at least Papa Loco (if not all the Ortegas) and the remaining Hoffstar pieces. I also have a HUGE Ramos mess to get sorted out as I kind of inherited two boxed sets, kept one, and discovered that in the offing, had lost his flame arm...only to realize I had all kinds of Reaper minis I could cannibalize quite nicely. GREENSTUFF.
  7. A buddy of mine is a vocal opponent of Huggy's sculpt and we hit on the idea of doing an alternate w/ sculpey based off Slenderman. It's just a proxy for friendly games, but looking forward to the project.Anyway, it got me thinking. The creepypasta story about the Tulpa seems a great mini in waiting... (http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Tulpa). Just wondering if we did it as a homebrew, what faction gets it? It seems an interesting fit with the Dreamer, obviously, but the "Evil Twin" vibe goes sorta with the Viks, I guess. Then the fact that it's noncorporeal kinda makes it Kirai-ish...hm.Other question: how tentacley should Hungry Slendy be?
  8. Actually, I'm using the one gear layout from that Wiki as the design for my Kythera scenery. I'm posting to Tumblr soon.
  9. I humbly sumbit the Steam Valley Steelpunx, a highly noob group based in Youngstown, OH. We're south of Cleveland and the fulcrum between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Most games will likely be held at Liberty Comics and will need a week or so lead time (most of us are parents, not apt to "up and go" alas). Preferred: Wednesdays, Saturday evening, Sundays. No Hench support yet, but my college buddy Tim is one at near Legions in Pittsburgh on the list above and is a short hop away. We run: -- Guild (me: LJ, SC, CH, and PO) -- NB (currently getting to know Zoraida) -- Arcanist (also me (Kaeris), a Raspy, and lol, two Ramos players)
  10. Hi all. Is there a place here where those who like to tinker and maybe make their own stuff for in-world play (obviously friendly games here; no dropping a home-made...whatever...into a tournament)? I had the idea while reading Rising Powers of making the Aethervox a playable Object and have some rough ideas for said playing/mini. This is strictly rough draft and bull-shooting here; not looking to patent anything. Thanks!
  11. Hi all Ending tomorrow morning at 9 AM EST: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Malifaux-Resurrectionist-Crew-Custom-Dr-D-McMourning-w-1-of-a-kinds-bonuses-/170947992166?pt=Games_US&hash=item27cd4b5a66 http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=malifaux+outcasts&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=malifaux+outcasts+rogues+gallery&_sacat=0 A great boost. My buddy and I were CCG guys for a long time and he was a great deckbuilder, so the Dougie Mac crew was built from scratch like a well-tuned deck. It cleaned my clock with three different Guild crews. The Viks was originally a boxed set, but he modded a little. Not sure on that one, but hey, whatever floats your boat I have it on good authority that the Rezzer lot is currently maxed at 25 bucks...that's a damn steal. Happy Bidding!
  12. A valid point about not-in-the-box summoning and one that one of my Ramos players asked about. We're using the "starter deck" philosophy to make the tournament a showcase for Malifaux's very low buy-in and to teach players who come for the event the basics. The compromise we came up with was running round-robins using only what you've got so the focus could be on rules basics and reward good smart play with the full-blown rules for the championship game. Depending on who we have as players, their experience levels, and such, we may relax the "only what's in the box" rule after a round or waive it altogether. Liberty Comics is off Belmont Ave in Liberty. Honestly, using I-80/OH-11 as your main artery is the easiest. FROM 80 EAST: Exit to Belmont, you'll be facing a Speedway. Turn right. FROM 80 WEST: Exit to Belmont, you'll be at a weird intersection with a large billboard. Turn to the right, then at the intersection (Denny's and Wendy's), hang a left. ON BELMONT, follow the road straight to Giant Eagle on the left. Pass the first turn into the store, go up the hill to the flashing light and turn left. There's a strip mall there with a bank on one end and Antone's something or other at the other end. Store's about in the middle.
  13. Hi all. 1) If you're a Facebooker in the Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Stark, etc. area looking for Malifaux fans, please have a look at our group: Steam Valley Steelpunx. You'll have to message one of the members for enrollment, but we're a small group of mostly-n00bs, looking to grow and function largely as a team. We currently have five active players, two running Ramos (by the luck of the draw), myself running heavily on Guild boxed sets with a few accompaniments, a Rasputina player, and one in transition from Rezzers to Mr Lynch. As four of the actives are parents, our meetings are kind of sporadic, but we're always down to meet and greet. To this end, we're hosting a tournament with a Wyrd Henchman from Pittsburgh 30 December at Liberty Comics in Liberty, Ohio. PM me for address, etc. The format will be a little different: to get new people in and show the diversity of play, we're running the round robin rounds as "boxed sets only" (though our Henchman has indicated that Pandora is banned at this event). The two best records will move onto a championship round where a 25 SS list, allowing for some proxies as desired, will be permitted. 2) Having mentioned the Mr Lynch/Rezzer transition there, I was hoping it'd be cool to post a link to my buddy's fundraiser for his Lynch crew, two eBay listings for his current crop of models, here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/170947992166?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 (big McMourning lot) and here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/170947995327?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 (modified Viks set). If not mods-kosher, LMK and happy to take these down. Both are a steal, btw :-D.
  14. Imp-- any time you give me a fonts page, I will always bite. Just please don't goatse-bomb me :-D. Also...hm, edit: the modular concept is cool. I had posted that I had a line on some 2x2 pieces of kids' playmat from my fellow corpse-stitcher. Might be another way to do it. I wanted to go back to this post (ICDead's) for a sec. I have a surplus of harder green floral styrofoam at my place. The old tenant of our house was very into hideous fake-floral arrangements and left a lot of her supplies-- including a GIGANTIC, suitable-for-all-sorts-of-gaming table-- behind. I can do the rough-hewn stuff pretty well, but will your carving tools help with this material as well?
  15. Some good ideas. I raided my Lego box for technic gears. Is there a "language" or alphabet to do lettering in? In reading the history of the Breach, it seems as though there might be. If not, cool. But just wondering
