  1. i had been considering the judge, as i'd long liked the model but hadn't really found a guild master who could take him that i found i like the style of (seeing as lucius is limited in his selection of minions). I hadn't considered Francisco & he certainly seems a rather interesting idea that i'll definitely put some thought into (main detractor however is his relative lack of durability, which is something i was hoping to have so that an enemy would have to split focus re: the offensive element of the crew as opposed to just doing focus fire on one then piling around mccabe). Likewise, i hadn't considered the effigy though, it appears i wouldn't be able to take him with the current list due to the presence of lucius (certainly a bummer). One of the lists i had been considering using already contained dogs, as is seen below: Guild Crew - 35 - Scrap Lucas McCabe -- 7 Pool + Relic: Glowing Sabre [2ss] + Relic: Invigorating Bridle [1ss] + Relic: Strangemetal Shirt [3ss] Luna [3ss] Lucius [10ss] Drill Sergeant [3ss] Guild Austringer [5ss] Guild Austringer [5ss] Guild Hound [3ss] Though, i find myself hesitant to do so given their relative squishiness coupled with my uncertainty as to the offensive effectiveness. Thanks for the ideas though, different thought processes is part of the reason i set up this thread.
  2. aye, i had considered using the guild captain, just wasn't sure if the 5ss pool would be ample enough for mccabe if it's just him & el capitan charging forth while the lucius firebase supports from behind thus far i've been having trouble with sidir (course, it's likely not made easier to learn him due to the fact that i've been going up against misaki's crew), but the austringers' have rarely done me wrong (also, worth noting that the drill sarge is attached to lucius, with mccabe flying solo)
  3. have a 35ss list put together as follows (12ss remaining to spend) Guild Crew - 35 - Scrap Lucas McCabe -- 8 Pool + Relic: Glowing Sabre [2ss] + Relic: Invigorating Bridle [1ss] + Relic: Strangemetal Shirt [3ss] Lucius [10ss] Drill Sergeant [3ss] Guild Austringer [5ss] Guild Austringer [5ss] want to put in a fast melee capable heavy hitter to back up mccabe while the austringers & lucius firebase provide artillery support but uncertain as to who would be a good compliment (as well as how many ss i should consider for mccabe's final pool given the selected relics listed above)
  4. In one possible direction expanding upon you comment re: a possible net gun ruling, it would make sense if the 'ignore netgun' ability was only accessible provided that luna was taken as mccabe's totem during the list building phase (but said ability would persist throughout the course of the game (seeing as it doesn't exactly make sense that dogs would suddenly forget how to maneuver with a net gun firing into their presence simply because their pack alpha had died when they'd been doing so before)) & would otherwise have a situation where the hounds could be effected should a different totem be taken, thereby increasing totem synergy with certain types of models with certain totems taken (sort of like the theme lists' bonuses & limitations found in warmachine). As it currently stands, I've been taking the approach of ability ends when luna dies but this lingering doubt is what caused me to want to bring this question to the rules discussion sub-forum. As this ability effects models other than just luna in terms of interaction with mccabe's net gun during a game, the addition of the aforementioned 'while this model remains in the game/alive' to the description (or some statement to the opposite effect reaffirming that the ability bonus persists on the hounds, provided that luna was initially taken as the totem), would certainly help put this lingering doubt to rest.
  5. abilities: a model's abilities are always considered active during the game unless otherwise indicated and are applied whenever called for in the rules. (pg 12 of the rulebook) mccabe's hounds (from luna's card): this model and friendly guild hounds in play ignore any damage and effects caused by mccabe's net gun weapon (pg 45 of book 4) it doesn't actually say that the ability ends on her death (in either the definition of ability or in the description of said ability), hence the existing confusion; in essence, the lacking of a 'while this model remains in the game/alive' in the description of the ability is what's throwing me on this one
  6. Greetings again, Since the completion of my mccabe conversion, my mind has had a chance to idle pertaining to malifaux ideas. Turns out this isn't necessarily a good thing as this has given rise to 2 quick questions that may be born of over-thinking things. First, does Luna's 'mccabe's hounds' ability persist after she is killed if there are other guild hounds still in play (aka, are they still able to ignore the netgun, even if luna is dead)? Second, the guild guard patrol ability doesn't apply to any model with the guardsmen characteristic, just guild guard models, correct? (i'd had this idea lurking in my mind of a rather nice lucius companion chain eventually resulting in the use of a guild guard to activate 3 wardens until i re-read the patrol wording, so wanted to check that this was the case)
  7. No worries. I started this thread for those who, upon seeing mccabe & his relic cache, wanted to do a conversion (making him less Indy & more sword wielding dragoon) could do so. In essence, providing them with the benefits of the research i had done throughout the web on different parts & ideas so they themselves didn't have to likewise spend the same amount of time doing the same thing (or at least giving them some ideas & launching points should they decide to go their own way with the conversion).
  8. an update shot on the mccabe mounted sword conversion (see pics below) decided to attach the whip on the right side of the horse, but, not wanting to it to appear to be 'free floating' when glued, decided to make a holster for the whip attached to the saddle out of 0.4 x 1.0mm sheet styrene strips threaded under the glued whip & then up over the other side, with a second piece added when it appeared that part of the holster abruptly ended. this piece was partially cut away in the area of the overlap & mane so as to fit & then towards the end in an effort to blend in with the design of the saddle
  9. As an update, i decided to build a conversion of a coiled whip suggested by Clousseau, & have 3 mock up photos of whip conversion mounted on mccabe horse taken; problem is I'm undecided as to which I prefer or if adding the whip would just make the model too visually busy & thus should remain in its current state of conversion. Comments & thoughts appreciated as well as suggestions as how i should proceed (whip converted out of braided model ship rigging (CNSB0062 Bright Thread .75 mm by constructo (available in either your local hobby shop in the wooden ships section or online via a link chain off the website (http://www.bestrc.com/constructo/index.html, then click where to buy, then, on new page displayed, select order constructo online & look through search results from there to find ship rigging))) line as well as a thin plastic rod for the handle (rope 40mm in length while handle about 6mm in length)). 1 2 3
  10. to be perfectly honest, i hadn't considered adding a coiled wip to the mounted model as it wasn't listed as a weapon on the stat card. Additionally, as part of the process of of attaching the sabers to the mounted & dismounted models, i cut around the dismounted sword & mounted whip so that there was only a round rod remaining that could then be slotted into the middle of the sabers (whose handles i had removed). This process was particularly difficult with the extended whip on the mounted hand as i was forced to clip off the whip in pieces to ensure no damage was done to the hand or remaining rod around which the saber would attach. Since you mentioned it, though, i find myself intrigued by the possibility of adding said bullwhip or possibly a saddlebag in which the whip would be contained. The question would be, what material would be small & light enough to mimic a coiled bullwhip & where would i mount it on the mounted figure? (also, thanks for the reply to the post, i hadn't expected any but had merely put this thread up for lurkers looking for conversion ideas if they wanted mccabe to have a sword instead of a whip & were having issues finding something that worked)
  11. Greetings, Long time lurker, first time poster. Thought i'd set up this thread for those who might in the future be of a similar mindset as i was when i saw that mccabe had within his relic stash a saber & decided he needed to be brandishing one, not only on foot, but mounted as well. Below you'll find pics of the finished conversion: Should anyone wish to replicate this conversion in the future, the base model can, of course, be found in the relic hunters crew box. As to the brandished blade, finding a weapon of appropriate scale was a less than easy prospect, made more difficult by the mirroring of the model from artistic rendering to final figure. Success was finally achieved thanks to the discovery of a Napoleonic saber weapons sprue (EQ26 Sabres (x8)) from front rank miniatures (http://www.frontrank.com/lev4_2_10_0_Napoleonic_Guns_&_Equipment.asp), though, if a converter's preference differed, there also exists a straightened blade option that maintains a similar ascetic. Front rank items can be ordered either directly from the manufacturer's site or via a us vendor. Best of luck to those seeking to also do some conversion work & end up finding this forum post, here's hoping it helps.
