  1. Nightwatch is my favorite, followed by Hogfather.

     

    Death is my favorite character, though, Granny Weatherwax is pretty legit.

     

    I had also been enjoying the Long Earth series he had been writing with Stephen Baxter.  The fourth book out of five is due out soon.  I'm not familiar with Baxter's independent work to have any sense of how well he'd finish the series off without Pratchett.

    The fluff in the first book (1st edition) mentioned that all the botanists went out to study Malifaux's flora, but they never returned.

     

    I actually had an idea for a costume model that would be a neverborn/archanist academic who returns after being missing for so many years and uses different plant toxins and a blow gun to turn people into vodoo zombies.

  3. Not all of them. If I recall correctly, a big deal was made of Ama No Zuko not being neverborn, but being something from earth itself.

     

    I was referring specifically to the Nephlim and Woes.  I could have been more specific, however.  Ama No Zuko wandered into Malifaux from Earth.  We don't know if the Oni originated on Earth as a species or if the went to Earth from Malifaux or elsewhere.  From bits of fluff I've heard, Shenlong spent quite awhile on Earth before returning to Malifaux.  It's possible that the Oni were created via magic of Malifaux.  Regardless, the fluff did say that magic existed on Earth before the first opening of the breach, so anything is possible at this point, until explicitly stated by Wyrd.

  4. The TTB story hasn't changed no, it just describes the world from the view of a death sentenced scholar. Hence the "gods" reference. A human civilisation able to overcome illness and death would qualify as "Gods" to the eyes of earthside humanity.

    So the Neverborn, or to specify, Lilith, Pandora and Nekhima (I butchered her name didnt I? *to lazy to look up*) are remnants of this former civilisation. High end (although twisted) mages so to speak that changed their appearance to fit with earthside mythology and drive earthside humanity from Malifaux. As they are probable conduits to the Tyrants.

    Just wonder about Zoraida's story, she came from earthside waaay back as I understand.

     

    The neverborn didn't choose their new appearances.  The form of the neverborn was inflicted upon them by the cataclysm.  The common theory is that earth's mythology is inspired by the creatures of Malifaux and not vice versa.  Zoraida made a deal with the Neverborn for power, and that's why she helps them, as far as I'm aware.

  5. That said, Nexus was part of the environment in which Neverborn were balanced, and Justin seems to believe that it was a must-take Upgrade. That means that changing Nexus affects the balance of the faction as a whole, and the change has taken place after public playtesting has been completed.

    Are there going to be more Faction-wide Upgrades?

    In an interview, they stated that there would be more generic upgrades released in the beta, but they want people to spend adequate time testing new models and model specific upgrades first.

  6. I was playing with Ophelia vs Nicodem. This is after only one game, so it's not much but it's what actually came up.

    1. BOOM!: So, unlike the other two attacks, BOOM! does not remove the upgrade. Using this ability in conjunction with Young Lacroix is actually quite effective at paralyzing groups. The trigger is built in which causes a horror pulse, it has a weak damage of 4, and it doesn't eat up extra AP from having to reload it. Between her and the young, they can spam so many shots that they'll not only paralyze groups of models, but also leave them half dead in the process and get your opponent to empty most of his hand.

    2. Your Turn!: This is an awesome ability, but Ophelia should not be able to target herself with it. She's already very mobile and very deadly at range. As a gremlin player I'm used to being able to out run an enemy model, but with this ability combined with the long range of her guns, Ophelia can unload several shots into enemy beatsticks and still out run them. And because it's a place and not a push, I don't have to be concerned about what kind of terrain might get in the way. There should never be a case where a model so deadly can attack the bulk of an enemy crew without fear of retaliation.

    I also think it's more fluffy if it's something where she just launches other kin and not her self.

    3. Move It!: The complaint is kind of like the above. It gives an extra AP to a model that just doesn't need it. But mostly, my issue with this one is that it doesn't seem so fluffy that she'd be threatening' herself with her own gun. I guess this one isn't as much of a balance issue.

    As hypoking pointed out, I feel that these abilities will be tweaked eventually. I just wanted to bring it up since no one has really dedicated a thread to the her new upgrades.

  7. After playing with Ophelia's new upgrades I have some concerns about them being a little OP. Ophelia should not be able to target herself with (0)Your Turn! and (0)Move It! I also feel that (1)BOOM! should result in the loss of the Threatnin' Gun. That's just my opinion after playing her. Aside from those few issues, I really like what the upgrades do. They offer some impressive versatility and provide a lot of character.

    I'd try to do a more thorough write up, but I just received a package with two sets of Terraclips, so instead I'll let other discuss while I go play with my new toys.

  8. I'd do two slop haulers at most. If you take Can O' Beans, you should probably take both mosquitoes. They can engage enemy models to try and prevent them from walking or performing interact actions and then use Warn the Kin so you can shoot that model without dumping shots on the Mosquito. If it survives until next turn it can use Warn the Kin and then Pull My Finger to try and drop some damage.
