  1. I think it's a core feature of Malifaux - like the cards - that the game has you pick lists based on scenarios. The only drawback, really, is that it's hard for new players to get an idea of what Malifaux is - but that's not an area where Infinity shines either, mind. I'd much rather teach a new player M3E and relax the scenario restrictions a bit (or better yet, pick a strat and scheme pool, and select two crews for it, myself) than teach a new player N3 and just take light infantry - the latter teaches less of what being a regular player of the game is like. As others have mentioned (I'd take it a bit further) you can do a lot of it beforehand - and I know, it's very time consuming if you don't. If you're playing games at home, then I'd go as far as step G, with a slight modification - instead of choosing and defining terrain as step B, make it step H - that way everything until G can be done without needing two people in the same room who spend their time looking at the model collection separately instead of playing a game. Malifaux without the intricacy scenario selection would, to me, be like playing Infinity without AROs, or Keyforge Constructed - you could do it... but why? I'll also say that M3E has also gone a LONG way to making a leader's hiring pool be able to deal with different challenges. A number of people don't like the out-of-keyword hiring penalty, but I like that it a) encourages thematic list building, and b) means that M3E game designers should be keeping keywords in mind when developing new schemes and strats.
  2. If there's any D-list company in this story it's probably Alliance.
  3. I'm happy to have characters die off as the story goes forward, or else we're just in comic book territory where there are relatively few lasting consequences to the main characters. That said, there's no reason not to have them playable instead of deleting them entirely, so Wyrd is doing just that. And since Tournaments have whatever set of variant houserules the TO feels like using, having some masters listed under a legacy format doesn't really matter - as long as the mechanics that they have are appropriately balanced. More important to me is the loss of certain masters from factions, which I think is a bigger hurdle to overcome. You can't very well print a set of optional rules that replace a part of the main rules to allow for them, so some people are just going to be turfed out by the change. Nothing that affects me enough to be bothered by, since I only ever got thematic chunks I liked anyway, but I can see why it would be a real problem for some.
  4. I was definitely thinking of getting Night Terrors at some point - they just seem like generally useful models. Bete Noire fits my bill, and I DO have an MPPK that's unassembled - think there's a parasol on there. Heck, given Molly's often cute stories, it'd be funny to have a Beau instead of a Belle, too. Alternate option is to just use performers and paint them up grey or green or otherwise pale, maybe. Either way, Molly seems like a good second master to get into eventually... and there, small side faction idea is falling away. The Kirai/Molly buddy movie Take Back the Night short from Crossroads is pretty great, and Reva also fits the bill of Necromancer-who-isn't-a-twerp...
  5. Ooh, Shikome are right on the money. As you say, not really gribbly at all. I've already got Izamu from having 10T Yan Lo, and I can probably live with Gaki. It's mainly Hanged & Drowned and the Flesh Construct to summon off of that aren't really doing it for me, and giving up on Belles seems like a big deal too, since a way to lure into the bubble around Kirai would be handy.
  6. Hey all, So my local kicked off a Shifting Loyalties campaign and I'm really tempted to get in on it, with something fresh. Kirai, Reva and Molly draw me from Ressers as (pretty much for my first time) I'm seeing undead/necromancer characters who aren't just terrible people. I'm still not into the gribbly fleshy stuff though, so I was wondering how Kirai (well, for shifting loyalties I'd start with Datsu-Ba and work my way into Kirai) would do without the Hanged, Drowned and Flesh Construct, which pullmyfinger suggests. Basically I'd like to do a small side-faction rather than go whole hog, much like I did with a small selection of Arcanists. Ideally they'd be fun to play outside of the campaign-specific stuff too. Thanks!
  7. Thanks guys! Both really useful suggestions. I think I'll go with Ironsides for the moment, then. That way if I do decide to go deeper (who am I kidding, it IS malifaux) then Sandeep already has the mages. I've already got Johana too, so that's contributing some to the Union theme. I've also got the Rail Golem, so Raptors and Large Arachnids, and I've got a soft spot for Amina - plus one of my regular opponents loves his Guild Lawyers so it'll be nice to shunt some paperwork his way. Later possibilities would be miners and the effigy. Come to think of it, I also have a Miss Step from a while ago, so all I'd really need to do is convert or proxy myself a Joss, really. That's quite a handy little set, then, to try various strats and schemes with.
  8. Hey all. Apologies for yet another of these questions, but I really can't justify going whole hog on a third faction. Long story short, when first got into Malifaux around book 3 of 1E, I picked up the Kaeris box. Since the plastics began though, I've gone all in Thunders and Gremlins, and I'm finding Gremlins in particular incredibly fun. But playing the (other) good guys (it's just the Gremlins' home, don'tcha know) still appeals, but I really can't spend the time or money on a third faciton in full. I've got Mei Feng and the foundry gang (and I'll be getting the Survivors anyway for Grems), so I'm wondering if there's a good master (or at most 2) to get with that lot, that isn't Ramos. I know he's well recommended, but I'm not particularly interested in spider summoning, and Rasputina and Marcus don't really appeal either. Maybe two or three smaller boxes to get alongside Kaeries/Collette/Ironsides/Sandeep. My preference is absolutely to build lists after generating strats and schemes, and to play to those, and if possible I like strong theming. Thanks for any advice!
  9. That's a pretty good idea. I might see if I can take a magnet to a hardware store and see how well the magnetic primer works. It'd certainly beat having to worry about sharp edges from cut metal.
  10. Thanks guys, that's very helpful. I'm off to order a bunch now, and will keep some epoxy on-hand in case I need it to make sure the magnets line up flush. Now to find some tin snips or a stackable cookie tray rack.
  11. Hey all. I've been trying to arrange purchase of a bunch of magnets, some cheap boxes and some metal sheeting for them, and I was wondering if anyone had advice on what depth and diameter I should be looking for, for the three bases? I'm away from my minis at the moment so I can't measure them, but I'm also wondering whether to just glue the magnets directly or whether it makes sense to get magnets a little thinner and then glue them to green stuff or the like. Thanks!

Everything is unassembled and unpainted, except for Ramos whose front half has been given a light spray coating of bronze due to poor placement while airbrushing. Alt. Ramos Joss Marcus metal box set Jackalope I'd prefer to have them all go together, but I'm willing to parcel out things. In trade I'm happy with either plastics or metals, though I'd prefer a plastic VS box if only for the sake of the steam trunk. 15. Thanks guys, that's some great advice to pass on.
  16. Well, perhaps a weird question, but one of my friends has been eyeballing getting into Malifaux, and the faction that he seems most interested in is Gremlins. Given that we're more or less in a small group of... maybe 5 other people, if one were to have a hiring pool of the current three Gremlin Masters (well, 4 if we count Wong, but seeing as he'd be a master without a crew...) and the handful of plastics, can they give it a good go for a variety of schemes and strategies? I'm sure hunting down the metals or using proxies would be fine, but it's just an added hassle at the moment while trying to sell the game. Thanks!
