  3. Brilliant models - the bases totally makes them unique and characterful. Very clever the way Graves is standing on a stack of them instead of just a single chip. It still very much has the feeling of terrain while maintaining the strong thematic element of the poker chips. Awesome work!
  4. Great color scheme. Understated and unified, but still has plenty of colorful pop. They'll look phenomenal on the table.
  5. Greetings, gunslingers and undertakers- Ayezik and I will be running demos and teaching newcomers at Avalon Comics and Games in Silverdale, WA from 4PM-9PM on Saturday, October 6th. We have plenty of space and some awesome terrain, so if you're in the area and want to swing by, please join us. We're really trying to expand the Malifaux community in Kitsap area, so hopefully with some interest we can work towards a regular meet-ups, tournaments, contests, etc. We're happy to offer games and rules help for beginners, or you're welcome to just watch and ask questions. We'll have plenty of painted crews to try. Avalon is located at: 10408 Silverdale Way Suite #A102 Silverdale WA 98383 Hope to see you there! Dan
  6. Apologies in advance for using "old" GW color names... I'd start with a black base coat, followed with Scorched Brown (any dark brown will do). From there, I'd go Graveyard Earth (tan/brown), and Kommando Khaki and/or Bleached Bone to highlight. A lot of the weathered look will come from washes. A brown and a sepia wash should work nicely - brown for all over the base, and sepia for the reddish areas. In general, I try not to get too hung up on exact layering strategies. Start building up and see what works! Try a little bit of wash between each color you add, and don't worry about being too perfect or clean. Hope this helps a little!
  7. I'd actually love to know how to make the forum backgrounds in to computer wallpaper. My computer isn't loading up the new one yet, but when it does, I'd like it to stay with me! Edit: Just figured it out (right click, "view background image"), and the new art just loaded. Awesome!
  8. We do have the Malifaux RPG to look forward to though. Perhaps there will be a way that the two systems can combine.
  9. Well, your game just got a lot stronger! More damage for you to pass out to your opponents. :Combat_Puppet:
  10. Even if you cheat in the red joker, you'll get the additional flip. Edit: Check page 45 in the small rules manual.
  11. Awesome idea, and excellent execution. A little hard to see red Viki's face, but the shading and colors on the dual sword Vik is really stunning. The hair color really ties the two together, but they each have their own strong identity. Well done!
  12. Nice report. The pictures were appreciated as well... looks like you're well on your way to having a great looking board to play on. Have you tried Grave Spirit with Dead Rider? It sure helps to keep him around longer.
  13. Welcome! Great crew choices. Lady J will be a natural way for you to expand when you're ready. Smart choice getting two factions to start with though, so you'll be able to bring some friends in to the mix. Looking forward to hearing how your first games go!
  14. The touches of blue are great. They really pull the whole model together. Nice job!
  15. Excellent work! Classic Lady J look and very clean painting despite maintaining a gritty feel. The base also has a great feel to it. Awesome wood grain and coloration. Looking forward to seeing the rest!
  16. Hey, all- Ayezik and I will be at Avalon Comics and Games in Silverdale, WA from Noon - 5PM on Sunday, September 16th. We have enough space and terrain to accommodate up to about 6 games running at the same time, so if you're in the area and want to swing by, please join us any time during the day. We're happy to offer games and rules help for beginners, or you're welcome to just watch and ask questions. We'll have plenty of painted crews to try. We may have a special guest appearance from Rage, so fingers crossed! Avalon is located at: 10408 Silverdale Way Suite #A102 Silverdale WA 98383 Hope to see you there. Dan
  17. Aethervox back with Malifaux and Sedition Wars talk in the same episode?! It's the podcast equivalent of flipping a red joker.
  18. I just picked up a Lady J box myself for demos. Seems like a great place to start. I think an Austringer or two will be my next purchases. I've seen great demos run with both Perdita and Sonnia as well, so go for what appeals to you.
  19. I would consider starting with Seamus, given your two choices. The Rotten Belles are considered some of the most useful Ressurectionist models available (for the points), so if you decide to expand your collection later, you'll be happy to have those at your disposal. It sounds like people are having lots of fun with Seamus' avatar as well, so if that's part of your decision, you'll probably enjoy playing with him. Any model that does a lot of summoning (Nicodem or even Dr. M) will often require a lot more model purchases. The Flesh Construct for example is often not included in lists, but purchased anyway and used as a summon for McMourning. Seamus on the other hand, would allow you to have a fun crew that is ready to go right away. Hope that helps!
  20. The Librarian: Viktorias strike A Whirlwind blood bath, retreat Healing Energy
  21. Thanks, @Ozz - I know that I've been trying to teach myself to over-exaggerate highlights. It doesn't come naturally, especially when you are looking at a model so close up while painting and you can see the subtle highlighting that you are doing. I try to remember how far away they can look on the table, and it's nice to have those highlights pop from a distance. I think that blocking out the main colors can be the most difficult and time consuming part, and you do that very well. A couple of very dark strokes in the folds of the fabric, and a wash here or there, and you'd be well on your way to very dynamic looking models. Keep up the good work, and don't be afraid to be too bold. Especially after it dries, I'm always surprised at how "normal" too much highlighting can look. It's like make-up on movie actors - close up might be a little much, but on screen they just look like important characters.
  22. I really enjoy Von Schill leading, especially in smaller games and when you'll be likely to face willpower duels. The Specialist may be my only Outcast that can use blast templates, so it's great to get him involved too. I love the look of an all Freikorps crew on the table. That being said, VS is a ton of fun to run with the Viks. Lots of movement and fast strikes.
  23. Excellent board! What is being used for the play surface? It looks like it breaks down in to 3 pieces?
  24. Looks like you're making some good progress here! Have you played around with washes much? I find they can add a lot of depth to a model without too much extra work. I also wouldn't be afraid to try some more extreme highlights. I often do fairly subtle shading myself, but when the models are down on the table, a lot of my hard work is lost unless you get up close. I've started experimenting with very dark shades in the recesses, even black on jackets, capes, etc., and it really helps your main color pop. As for the color scheme, I think it's really personal preference. I've painted my ronin and Vikis all different colors (although fairly complimentary). I would be more concerned with making your bases unified. In my mind Ronin are solitary guns/swords for hire that are in it for themselves, not to be part of a team. That being said, some people love the unity of a crew that uses the same colors. I say have fun and make each one unique. Good luck! Looking forward to seeing more.
  25. Wow! Very creative. I'm in the process now of coming up with some of my own markers to use. I love how much extra flavor it will give the game table. Your custom bases in particular came out incredibly! Bases can add so much character to a model, and to have made your own is awesome. They look professional! Welcome to the boards, and keep up the good work! I'm sure everyone here will love to see what you've been working on.
