  1. hanging out looking for some hot online action (in vassalfaux) for the next hour...call now.
  2. I will be looking for a game about 2 hours from now, or any time early evening really.
  3. hanging in the lobby looking for a game
  4. Maybe I'm an idiot but i tried searching for these and failed. 1) Can a model (convict gunslinger) with the ability Gunfighter use his rapid fire action while in close combat? 2) If I have a gunsmith (M&SU asset) in my arcanists crew, can I then take Johan (M&SU member) for the reduced cost? (i.e. 6 base +1 for out of faction -1 for having gunsmith too = 6) again, sorry if these have already been answered
  5. Looking for a vassal game sometime today (1-12 hours after this post). Twtter @blackscorpion22
  6. You guys are being timezone-ist! I'm currently finding our politest lawyer to send over from Canada to sue you guys for discrimination, you'll be sorry! (p.s. - so there's no way I can get in with GMt-7 and play my games on the weekend?) (p.p.s. - It's okay, I understand that you Europeans are happy playing the game wrong. If you kids are having fun forcing the square pegs through the circular holes then far be it from me to show you otherwise)
  7. I'm in Lethbridge and I'm also struggling to find players. One of our hobby stores carries the Wyrd Minis line and apparently a few people have bought in, we just can't seem to get commitments for a regular gaming night. Obviously this isn't helpful since I'm a 2.5 hour drive away... Have you looked into the Malifaux vassal program? I'm finding its a good way to get games in and keep interested when I cant find opponents irl
  8. Thanks for the game the other day Ryu, I had a lot of fun. Now on to the list of things I realized I cheated you with: 1) I think McCabe has bearskin armour, so while I didnt hit you with any blasts then if I HAD you wouldn't take damage. 2) Not sure I ever cast more than one per turn, but those ice pillars can only be cast once per CREW per TURN.
  9. I will have vassal open in the background for the next few hours looking for a game
  10. I will have vassal open in the background for the next few hours looking for a game
  11. Two questions: 1) Is there a way on twitter to create a group similar to the way you can create groups on *shudder* facebook? WARNING - very poor explanation incoming... 2) Is anyone interested in exchanging twitter names for the purpose of following and seeing when someone is up for a game? Hear me out: In order to play a vassal game currently I have to decide to consider playing a game, decide to play, go look for a game, organize the game, and play the game. I am the kind of lazy guy who would play a lot more if I could pick up my phone, see that someone I followed posted a tweet saying "I'm up for vassal if anyone wants to", and I can then go "oh that's a good idea, I will log on" or "nah I'm not up to it I will just ignore that tweet". Basically by following people who tweet when they want to play I could eliminate the steps of finding an opponent and - far more importantly - even having the thought of playing a game come to my mind. The other option is we could have an agreed-upon hash tag that you search when looking for a game, but this falls into the same issue I have with the forum in that I need to have that initial thought to play malifaux punch its way through all my other daily concerns. It's the same thing as me sitting at home on my computer when a friend asks if I want to go out; of course I do but if he hadn't asked then I would have never thought to do it. Is any of this making any sense to anybody or should I go play quietly in the corner?

    Sad Panda

Excuse me, I believe I am the sad panda. You sir are a sad martial artist with chiseled abs and a penchant for shooting fireballs.
  13. Regarding your inability to figure out how to observe games, I've had the same difficulty and I am wondering if perhaps it is just an issue of not many people using vassal yet so there aren't any games for you to observe in the first place? Also, do you experienced guys suggest keeping track "at home" of what's going on in the game? In other words, when a model takes a wound and receives a negative buff do you mark the wounds and buff on the model in vassal AND on your character physical character card which you keep by the computer for abilities referencing?
  14. i just suggested twitter as an easier to contact me since I'm permanently logged into that but not the forums. Either way it turns out I'm busy tonight but I reall wanna give vassal a try so I will be lurking the thread more often now.
  15. Anyone interested in playing a relatively new malifaux player and a completely new vassal user? I've watched Owen's vassal tutorials and poked around in the program in preparation but I still think it's going to be a slow-paced experience until I get the hang of both game and program. If you're interested hit me up at twitter @BlackScorpion22. I will be checking my twitter today (March 11) between 17:00 and 20:00 Mountain Standard Time (That's GMT -6). Even if I don't get a game tonight I would be interested in scheduling a game for another time.
  16. Sorry if this has been discussed before but I honestly had no clue what I should search to find if it was... This is purely hypothetical, I'm not trying to get the game altered or a new edition pushed out or anything. I feel like the game rules make my discard phases a bit too automatic (keep high cards, preferred suit, or some combination of both.) My thought is, would it have been a good idea to make certain duels a success by scoring UNDER the target number? I will give a different gaming system as an example and then translate it into Malifaux. Please don't get hung up on the specifics of the example, I'm just trying to get my point across. So in Warhammer most dice rolls are focussed around the higher the number the better (i.e. 6's always hit and wound, but 1's always miss or fail). However for the leadership tests you need to roll UNDER your unit's leadership, so 1's are then a godsend. In Malifaux terms, what if Terror checks worked the same way, where the lower the terror causer's aura # because it decreases the chances of the opponent flipping a total under that #. I know we have the suit-based trigger and spell system but often the lower cards in a suit will be pretty useless for anyone without access to soulstones. I like to look at low-trumps as ANOTHER mechanic alongside suit mechanics, as opposed to a REPLACEMENT of suit mechanics. In my opinion having both top AND low trumps in the game would actually work better than in dice games because of the control hand mechanic. I think it would add stress and tactical decisions when deciding which cards to keep, as you may want an emergency 2 in your hand for that (example) terror duel. It might also alter card-cycling strategies since you wouldn't necessarily be working through 54 cards to find the 10's,11's,12's,13's and red joker. Thoughts? PandaBearGuy (p.s. - I heard you can get an app which exactly recreates the keychain tamagotchis of the past, but if it isn't a little low-pixel plastic dongle on a keychain is it really a tamagotchi? REALLY?
  17. she doesn't need to bother getting dressed on my account *grin* btw, do raspy's ice pillars stay up from turn to turn or end during the closing phase? Link to a rules page would be appreciated. Mainly I'm just jealous because I didn't think I could build a whole ice house, each wall would fall down before I got the next one up
  18. Having seen what games companies in general and Wyrd specifically can raise via kickstarter, is there any reason why they shouldn't use it to fund development of a Malifaux computer game? I'm not talking a 1080p masterpiece here, I'm saying can't we as fans fund a couple of dudes to create a basic activation-based top-down 2D recreation of our beloved Malifaux? And I mean true 2D, not isometric like Fallout 1/2 or the original Xcom games. Art would be simple with small representation of each unit on a flat circle, with terrain being similarly flat but having height values. I know Warmahordes has something like this (although I think it might be unofficial) and I feel that the Malifaux rules and special abilities would work well, although they might have to allow premeasuring for the purposes of showing where your units can get to. I also know before the console Blood Bowl game came out there was a simple online one (sorry, again foggy on details). As a fan of Malifaux with nowhere nearby to play I would shell out full xbox 360 game top-design prices ($70 here) or more just to be able to play a simple-graphics version of Malifuax, EVEN IF all it had to start was the units from 2 starter boxes. But in my opinion simplicity of graphics, art, setup and play should be strived for in order to decrease cost and production time. Thoughts?
  19. Right now I'm using Quartermaster and heavily altering the default setting of the WH40K template
  20. While I was hoping for this to be a more theoretical thread about all 3 of the points mentioned in the OP (instead of a community rebuild of book 1), I pointed out in a different thread that I would pay 9 SS for ice golem if the only change made was adding combat expert. On a different point from the OP, what models do you guys think need a resculpt regardless of stats changes? From the models I own I would say ice gamin, molemen, maybe terror tots.
  21. Loving the longer episodes. Due to your consistent releases I have upgraded you to my "Premier Malifaux Podcast". Sorry Gamer's Lounge, you got caught resting on your laurels. Don't get too comfortable though, as all The Aethervox has to do in order to clinch top spot is release a 15 minute recording of another piece of dramatic reading. P.S. - screw the Von Schill gag, bring back your "breaks" from the first episode.
  22. I know that the key to a good business is constantly creating new products to sell, but with the fourth book release I'm beginning to worry that Malifaux will succumb to 3 things: 1) become an arms race complete with (whispers) power creep.* 2) result in crews with detail and size of models clashing heavily based on age.** 3) Too many options*** * A (potentially flammable) idea would be to have a thread where people could go to suggest new rules for old models (I'd love to see hoarcat prides get companion to each other). ** I wouldn't mind having a Gencon year be spent on nothing but resculpting and re-ruling old models. I started getting sad with my ice gamin when the fire gamin came out looking so much cooler, but now that the metal gamin are out I can't even look at my little frozen buddies (or Line-dancer, Come-at-me-bro, and Hand-shaker as I call them). *** I don't know where I stand on this one. On one hand, I don't believe games like chess would ever have gotten to be such a skill-based game if new pieces were constantly added. In other words, I'd rather beat my opponent because I out-thought him than because I bought new models from a book he hadn't read yet. On the other hand a game which doesn't evolve runs the a higher risk of stagnating than becoming "classic", and from a (justifiable) business view a game without new product relies on new players as opposed to new players AND old players buying merchandise. And is "too many options" ever a bad thing? If I don't like it then I can make a deal with friends to only play the game with certain books. At this point I'm beginning to ramble, but I'd like to read your thoughts, with as much unbiased detachment and civility as we fanboy/hater/trolls can muster of course.
  23. What's wrong with just making a version 3 stats card and putting it on the online store? I don't know how cost works but I would pay a little more than replacement stats cards cost now if somebody officially goes into the (for example) Ice Golem "master picture" and types a little bold Melee Expert on it. That way those who have the model can get what they want/need and those who never bought the model arent affected. And yes I know it may screw up the opponent for a minute but that already happens to those who only own book 1, and anyone who doesnt own every book often has to ask to see their opponents cards before the game anyway.
  24. I'm really hoping for a re-release of the Teddies. I bought a single puppet teddy at extortionist price just to have it but because of his rules he's pretty pants by without the others.
  25. Hey I was just wondering if anybody knows how long after Gencon it will be before Wyrd starts the monthly releases for the new models (both those at Gencon and those that were absent)
