  1. I dream of having 12-15 people to play malifaux against regularly... Stoopid Melbourne
  2. Of the non-mercenary, I think witchling stalkers are used heaps, also stitched
  3. If you're a savvy enough tactician taking bodyguard and his personal scheme can help create a goal for your opponent that you can manipulate, tease them with Yan Lo then counter attack.
  4. I wanna go on the Seamus ghost train....
  5. McMourning's is a funny one, it is brutal and since he needs to be out there carving people up he gets the requirements just by being him. Only problem with it is that by the time you've hacked up enough enemies to manifest you've usually already got the game in the bag....
  6. I've used kirais avatar but didn't get much out of it, though that was probably just through lack of experience. Raspy's seems like an insurance policy for if she gets swamped in melee, avatar up and change focus.
  7. Hahaha well lets take it even further and have an ultralisk drop in the form of killjoy! So much slow to die
  8. Surely you'd have to leave out 3 punks to include bête noir?
  9. This will be useful once the vassal module gets released
  10. When is yan lo getting released? I have a 2 day tournament that involves a brawl in late January next year. Was considering picking up Seamus to run alongside mcmourning but yan lo sounds much more fun
  11. Awesome. Thanks for the response Nathan, I really appreciate it
  12. Really can't be bothered finding the original thread, but is this getting any closer to completion? Malifaux is dead in Melbourne, if I don't get some decent games in soon I may end up just going back to the evil miniature game that monopolised the industry for so long, the one we all know and hate, just so I can play some games of something. Throw me a bone guys, I love your game but if I can't play it I can't maintain my interest.
  13. Probably drawing a long bow here but the mechanical doves a nod to Bubo from clash of the titans?
  14. Only problem with that is crews like kirai, crews that need to sacrifice their own models as part of their mechanics
  15. Yeah and the theory is good in that. I lose a little bit but I'm denying my opponent as well, can I hold on or have I cost myself too much? However, the sad reality is that people just don't take schemes like grudge. You just take hold out or breakthrough or something that the opponent can't deny and the game becomes a boring narrowed down version of itself simply because the risk v reward isn't enough for the harder schemes. Unless you play in gaining grounds format or something in which case you sit there and wonder how you're supposed to win as ressers with trash faction/master schemes, plus a hard time at a few of the main schemes, versus the neverborn and arcanists with their kidnap and power rituals and sabotage.
  16. Well it's not unacceptable, but if a group wants to house rule then why not let them? Malifaux isn't a big game, you're generally not playing games against strangers at a club or anything (at least not down here in Melbourne). The VP and the opportunity for denial is another unique aspect for Malifaux, and I kinda like that it's there for when winning is really important. If I'm playing with my mates I'd rather do everything to try and get away and hide my opponent's grudge target than just stop him from completing it, the cat and mouse challenge is fun! It's like picking a filth list, I'll happily figure out every last drop of insanity combinations for a competition, but with my friends I don't want to just faceroll them as our leisure time is precious and nobody likes to spend that in a futile effort. I guess it comes down to what you want out of the game, for me 90% of the time Malifaux is a fun, character driven game with heaps of fun flavour and personality. 10% of the time it's a power gamers wet nightmare. I like that balance, just depends on finding the right people to play with who share your philosophy. Edit: It should never really be necessary to force your opinions on what is and isn't acceptable to your opponent. My position is that I'll ask them if we're just playing friendly or going all out at the start, then adjust my crew select / playstyle accordingly.
  17. Well it really comes down to competitive versus friendly play. In a league or a tournament I would expect people to play a bit cut throat and pull whatever shenanigans they can to ensure maximum points. Amongst friends it's quite simple to just agree to not pull stuff like that and win the game on its merit by accomplishment rather than denial. It's the denial aspect that seems to inspire the most rage in this game. The frustration of never being able to actually hit Pandora, or Hamelin making you insignificant, of Sonnia counterspelling everything you try to do, even Hoffman laughing at Raspy's attempts to place blast markers. Add to that the scheme/strategy denial and it definitely can come as a bit of a shock to most players of your less intricate wargames (ie GW) who revolve more around buffing your own ability and winning the meat grinder.
  18. Kidnap is just plain ridiculous. Insta-win against a lot of crews.
  19. Yeah I think we've all tried our hand at the stacking arcane reservoir debate at some point
  20. I'd have to say Nico is the boss, he's a cool, calm and collected pimp daddy. He has a freakin pimp cane! Seamus and especially McMourning are just a little too loose in the head to be calling the shots. Kirai just needs to cheer up a bit.
  21. Von Schill and the convict gunslinger are the two main mercs I use, killjoy and jack daw are good too
  22. Never Heartsbane! What I should have done was just used McMourning both days. Given I managed to come 7th day 2 with the level of hangover I had, imagine what I could have done fresh on day one!
  23. Good to see someone got a before shot of my alt McMourning facing off against Lady J. That was the weekend defining moment for me! Had a blast, considered changing my name to 'The Black Joker' after my horror run of luck day one, but turned it around day 2 coming 7th. Was just happy to not be one of the Neverborn scum! I actually turned up on day 1 with Zoraida, saw that the other 5 people who were already there were also playing Zoraida, so went back to the hotel and grabbed Kirai instead Was amazingly well run by Tiny and co, had a blast and will definitely try to make it again next year!
  24. I personally wouldn't bother with the second flesh construct. McMourning is my main, some of the others I've had good success with are Drowned, belles, crooked men, bête noir, dead rider, canine remains, chihuahua, rogue necromancy and his avatar is a lot of fun to use too! Welcome to Doug!
  25. I don't know of too many crews that would be taking both the librarian and arcane effigy though. Maybe the librarian and jack daw? I don't see it popping up too much to really gimp anyone.
