  1. Arcane Effigy are 4SS cost. Saying that, the arcane effigy works well with Zorida and the Avatar of Fate as well by giving her an extra casting AP. Don't bother with the Primordial magic. Zorida prefers her Voodoo Doll Totem any day. You can't go wrong with a Mature Nephelim in here crew so that is something you could consider. If you get more games under your belt and find that you enjoy Zorida and here play style, and wish to expand. I can recommend Von Shil and Ophelia, both are outcast henchmen and work great with Z as a target for obey. They both are quick and pack a nice be wallop as well. Cheers
  2. Negative twist to init doesn't guarantee that the opponent will go second. Others have already pointed that out. For a real jammy tale, try this. I once had a game where I had the DG in the crew, and Zorida had gone avatar for a positive twist to init, and I still lost init. We both laughed our @## off when it happened. One of the many pleasures of playing Malifaux I say. Cheers.
  3. I've recently been using the Zorida Avatar, when I bought the model when it became available at my FLGS. I have had a couple of questions crop up during gameplay. I cast Pins and Needles and triggerconsume fate. I flip a severe for 5 damage. The target model is on 3 wds and passes into the great beyond. The question is how many cards to I draw due to the trigger? Is it 5, because I caused 5 damage hence would inflict 5 wounds, or 3 , as the model only had 3 wounds left and hence I inflict 3 wounds instead of 5? We played it as draw 3 to avoid protracted arguments, although I would like to know for sure, as drawing 1, 3 or 5 cards regardless of how many wounds the target has left would be great. I am also confused about (0) Empowered by fate. I was always under the impression that it was either a discard a card and perform a healing flip, or discard a card and flip a card and draw up to a full hand depending on the flip. However, I read on Pull my finger that the (0) Empowered by fate is both a healing flip and a drawing card mechanic at the same time. Meaning I discard a card and perform a healing flip and on top of that, I draw cards based on the card that was flipped during the healing. Which interpretation is correct? On a side note, does that mean you cannot use the (o) Empowered by fate, if you have no wounds to heal? Or do you just go through the process and flip and draw cards but do not heal as you are on full health? Any help with these questions is much appreciated. Cheers.
  4. Wow! Stunning work here. Please sir can we have some more? Cheers!
  5. You could also go the route of Leveticus, if you happen to play Hoffman. Leveticus can use your already in your collection guild constructs and can add Izamu to the list. Mind you, Izamu is less effective in a Leveticus list as he has no way of speeding up Izamu. AND Leveticus is one of the more diifficult master to learn to play well with. Cheers.
  6. I've used Zorida and Leveticus avatars quite a bit, but for different reasons. Zorida's avatar trades in her speed and survivability for a direct damage output increase. She loses some of her old abilities and spells and gains in others. The overall play style is almost the same, with a shift from a pure control and manipulation play style to one that add the option of direct damage output. The biggest reason to use the avatar is for the triggers that her spells have (Obey the same model again? Yes please! Stack my control hand with more cards? Yes please!), and the ability to allow a minion to use her Bayou 2 card ability. Overall, I feel that the avatar can be used in all strategies. Some become easier, but others, more difficult to achieve. Overall, the changes are easily handled. I feel the avatar is fun to use, and a slight improvement on normal Zorida. If i intend to play a fun game, I will not hesitate to take her avatar. If it was a competitive game like a tourney, I would seriously consider taking the avatar as well. Leveticus's avatar on the other hand, I use purely for fluff and for a challenge. I started using Leve purely for the chance to use all 4 riders, and was pleased that his avatar ties in with this theme. In a fun game, I will consider taking the avatar. In a competitive game, he is unfortunately left in my carry bag. The reason behind this is because the old man does not perform as well in avatar form when compared to his normal mode for a number of reasons. In terms of raw power, the avatar take a hit in pure hitting power. He loses his iconic and hard hitting half plus on wd spell (Unnatual wasting), and the sacrfice a 2 wd model spell (Entropic transformation). This changes his entire play style when he manifests. This however is acceptable if not because of the main reason I feel his avatar is sub par. He still has his, I wd myself 1 and wd you for 3 spell (Necrotic unmaking), and his finger of death (0/1/12) dmg profile. He gains a number of usefull abilities and spells. In fact, taken solely on the basis of the abilities of his avatar alone, his avatar is actually ok. Where it all falls apart, is that he needs riders to be in his list, and riders are expensive SS models and quite squishy to boot. This hamstrings him even more, as his hired crew will impact his effectiveness in game. Riders being costed the way they are makes playing a rider and avatar list fairly easy to beat. I keep trying as the idea is so cool, but unless they tweak it a bit, competitive, he is not.
  7. If a master/henchman/minion has the ability to summon a special forces model during the course of a game, but has already hired a different special force before game, can the model be summoned? Examples: -Zorida has hired Ophelia (Kin) OR VonShil (Friekorp). Can she summon a wicked doll during the game? -Widow Weaver in a Neverborn crew that has hired Von Shil (Friekorp). Can she summon a wicked doll during the game? Cheers.
  8. I have to say that the Arcane Effigy rules wise is very good. Arcane reservoir, (1) action to give the leader an additional casting AP are top drawer abilities. Not to mention a (0) action attack and normal (1) melee and range attacks that targets Ca. Great for getting around those pesky high Df models for softening up or the killing blow. I can see how it can hamper some arcanist masters who would prefer their totems, but since I'm running a Neverborn crew ATM, it doesn't detract from them at all, only adds. Cheers.
  9. A couple of effigy related question but not the same as the OP. Atheric demands states non Neverborn master in its wording. Can I assume that if hired one or more in a Neverborn crew, I don't have to attach it to any master? Does this mean that I can still hire or summon totems for a Neverborn master? In a brawl, can the Arcane Effigy use its (1) action to give any friendly master an extra casting AP? Cheers!
  10. When Ashes & Dust loses its last wound, you place Ashen Core in base to base with Ashes & Dust before the model is removed. You also place Dust Storm on a friendly or neutral edge. My question is, what counts as a neutral edge? My initial interpretation was the side of the table I'm sitting on is my edge, hence friendly, the opposite side is his/hers, hence enemy, and the 2 sides to my left and right are the neutral edges. A friend challenged my interpretation of this ruling based on deployment type which happened to be 12" squares stating that the 2 sides that his deployment touched where enemy table edges, and the 2 sides that my deployment touched are the 2 friendly edges, and there were no neutral edges. In the end, we flipped a card to resolve the issue with a promise to check with the marshals on the forum. As i was typing this, it occurred to me that if we were using the 6" straight deployment, there would be 2 table edges that both us share, and as such, will they count as friendlyor enemy table edges. Could I have a marshal rule on this please. Cheers.
  11. When aLeveticus summons a rider, what state/cycle would the summoned rider be in? Of the top of my head, this is my assumption in regards to this matter, but is this correct and legal? Dead Rider. No ambiguity here, it is based on his wounds so he would be on the cycle for max wounds. Mechanical Rider. No ambiguity here, it is based on the turn she is on so she will be in the cycle for the turn she is summoned in. Hooded rider. Some ambiguity here. Once he is summoned, I assume I get to choose which state/cycle he is in. It is an interpretation of the "choose his starting state at the beginning of the game". Since the summoned hooded rider just started his game, I choose either morning, noon or night. Pale rider. Some ambiguity here. Once he is summoned, do I place him in the state/cycle of 0 kills, or the cycle of x kills to date during the course of the game. For both the Hooded and Pale rider, this has caused some problems in a game before, and in the end we chose to flip a card for which one to apply, with a promise to go and find out for sure, hence this post. Cheers.
  12. I've just had my first game with Collodi, and in my initial hire, I did not take any wicked dolls. My assumption based on reading various threads here, was that he could summon them mid game via scrap counters. ( My bad for not verifying before the game.) Mid game, with scrap counters littering the game board, and with out a desire to move Collodi that turn, I thought it would be a perfect time to summon a wicked doll. To my dismay, the wording on the card said that he could summon marionettes but made no mention of wicked dolls. Post game, I had a quick look at my newly bought Zorida as well, and find the same problem. She can summon a Voodoo doll, but not the wicked. This can't be right. Is this because I'm having a set of v1 cards here. The various threads all seem to indicate that wicked dolls can be summoned by both Collodi and Zorida. Cheers!
  13. So by that wording, If a henchman was not the master of the crew you could frame for murder him/her/it as well? On a side note, in a slaughter game, how many stones if any does huggy give if slain? The last game I played, this question came up, and we deceided it was 0 as his card did not have a SS cost. Bit of a downer if true. It was not easy taking it down.
  14. Thanks! I'll look into the Titan forge bats first, and if I ever turn to the dark side and cheese with a more then 4 night terror list with the Dreamer, I'll try my hand at converting! Nice looking Night terrors Soundwave. Cheers
  15. Hi there, I've tried the search function and could not find a thread that covered this topic so I decided to start one. I've gotten a blister of night terrors, and although they are very nice, I'm not to keen on fielding identical models if i want to use more then 2 in a game. Can anyone suggest an appropriate alternative for more night terrors in a game? Cheers
  16. I have to agree with Ozz about the night terrors. It takes a lot of AP from a fair number of models to clear them out. And that is IF you can catch them. Useful distraction or actual game winner for grabbing objectives and stuff. The only time I didn't have this problem, was when I used Ototo in a Misaki crew where he killed 2 in 2 Ap. My only problem with the night terror, is a lack of variety for the model. I bought the original2, but want to get more. Does any one know of night terror alternates/suitable proxy from other manufacturers?
  17. Hollow Waifs are rare 2. Entropic transformation summons a Hollow Waif if successfully cast and defender fails resist. If 2 are already in play, you can't fulfill all criteria and hence it fails. Cheers.
  18. Woe & Nephelim are still living models. Black Death from minion Hamelin will wd them. Nightmares are not living models and will be able to ignore this. Be sure to stack only nightmares if you intend to use this often. Cheers
  19. Well it's good to know that it is legal. It so happened that there was no reason to bring LCB after the Dreamers move towards an evidence marker. However, later in the game, a juicy target game into striking range, and it seem legit so I went for it. Thanks for clearing this up. Cheers.
  20. I have a question about the shared action one master rule. Say the dreamer uses his zero "fly" action and 2 Ap to position himself. There is one remaining shared action in the "pool". His activation ends. The opponent activates. I activate a daydream sacrifice it and "call nightmare" to unbury LCB, the dreamer is buried. LCB immediately activates for 1 AP and +1 melee expert. Is this legal? Cheers!
  21. The chompy with his hands in the air pose looks like a single metal piece model. To pull of a single piece cast, it must be as flat as possible. Take a look at the old GW metal models for more examples of single piece cast being flat. This model looks plenty flat to me. Wyrd probably decided that the multi part NE edition was too expensive to manufacture for the standard starter box set ( Have you seen the number of pieces this model came in AND the amount of metal in this model!!) and set out to get the best possible chompy on a budget cast. I could be wrong though. I actually like the standard chompy. Its just that the NE version is super awesome. Thank you Wyrd for last years Black Friday stock clear! Cheers.
  22. Avatar Hoffman was tentatively slated for November as indicated in the link below, but the TBA (to be announced) is a pretty good indicator that it may be delayed. http://www.wyrd-games.net/content.php?203-Fall-Release-Schedule Cheers.
  23. I've tried playing with riders in a aLeveticus list. Usually 2 with the hope of summoning the third due to playing only 30SS games in my neck of the woods. My biggest stumbling block is that I would usually lose one rider before i manifest aLeveticus, as riders are squishy at df4 and big targets as well. Having so few models makes it easy for the opponent to gang up on one. The most riders I've managed on table at any one time is 3 including Leveticus. Still trying for gold though! The riders list is the main reason I picked up Leveticus in the first place! Cheers.
  24. Actually, there ARE 3 waif models out there. The one that comes in the Leveticus starter box set and the 2 that come in the blister. I've always wondered about this. Here's hoping they do make your proposed changes. It would make Leveticus more survivable. I don't know if i would take an extra dog for the 3rd waif as his SS cache of 0 is crippling and paying 2 more stones I feel should be spent else where. The option to convert a corpse counter dropped by and enemy dead would be priceless though. In response to the OP, since there is a lot of info covering normal Leveticus, I won't touch on the subject. I have tried out aLeveticus a few times and can share my experience with him. First off, he is fairly easy to manifest. Dying twice is easily achieved and essential to Leveticus to get a new control hand. Most Leveticus player have this down to a fine art. Players new to Leveticus learn how to do this quickly as well. Moreover, since dying requires Leveticus to use his spells to turn models to SPA it is already part of most Leveticus play styles. You won't have to go out of your way or change the playing style to achieve manifestation requirements. The most important question that I usually end up asking is do I need him in Avatar form at this moment and beyond? Seems an odd question to ask since you paid 2 SS for it. The thing is, Leveticus and aLeveticus play style is very different. Normal Leveticus is played primarily as a caster, and aLeveticus is played primarily as a beat stick. I have found in my earlier games with aLeveticus, that I actually miss some of his normal Leveticus spells. I have also found out that aLeveticus is also very difficult to kill. A 10 wound spirit, with healing options, soulstone use and a re-spawn option is hard to kill permanently. He gets a speed boost, and if you take the mechanical rider along, which you must if you intend to go the aLeveticus route. The mechanical rider gives aLeveticus melee expert and a CB of DF boost (Not sure which as I don't have his card on hand). Since he plays as a beat stick, Melee expert is a god send. With all this in mind, I find that manifestation at around turn 4 or 5 a good time to do it. Most of your crew is most likely dead, and a hard hitting, fairly fast beat stick for last minute objective grabbing or last minute killing is in order. The primary play style will be to ride up to the enemy and hit him in the face. The main thing to consider here is:- If you have enough severe cards in hand, cheat high, and soulstone for the straight flip and cheat your damage flip to severe for the 12 damage. this is more reliable. Or, if you don't have severe cards in hand and a fair number of low cards, cheat with your highest crow in hand and soulstone to help confirm the hit. Crows are to activate his CB trigger allowing you to discard cards in hand to get +ve flips in your damage flips. You are hoping for the severe to show up for the 12 dmg. Note that this is exactly how you would use normal Leveticus when he hits someone in melee as well. Just coveringit here as it was not covered earlier. One more thing of note. Although I have said that aLeveticus is hard to kill, but as with everything in this game, he can be taken down. He is not invincible. Don't be overly reckless with him. I lost him once at turn 4 due to over confidence in his spirit halving all damage taken and died to a concentration of enemy beat down. Hope this helps abit with aLeveticus.
