  1. i like that. totally missed leadstorm. though it is a (2) so that is a problem unless they walk straight into the trap. something to try though.
  2. my henchman is planning a hardcore tourney soon and I wanted to get people's thoughts on this: Sebastian with transfusion and unnerving aura with 6 soulstones 2 nurses 1 flesh construct max of 4 models, no summoning i was planning on decaying aura instead of unnerving aura before the latest errata to let the poison do its work without those pesky soulstones mitigating the damage but im out of luck on that now. I'm eating 2 soulsstones with this list but i feel that its the best sebastian setup i can go with. my current plan is to use my hand and the nurses to either keep sebastian alive or lock down my opponents models depending on the suits i draw while the poison does its work. alternately, i can load up the construct with poison and transfuse it to sebastian for a delicious double bloody harvest if the situation calls for it. this is my first hardcore tourney so im not sure what to expect as far as opposition. please comment, criticize, etc.
  3. I'm trying to put a Sonnia list together that involves annihilating the opponent's hand. So far I'm planning to start with three witchlings with their melee trigger (requires a crow - drain magic: after damaging, target must discard 1 card if able) and add an austringer for the distract trigger (requires a mask - distract: after succeeding the attack deals no damage, target discards two cards). is there anything else im missing? im specifically looking for something to cheat tomes and rams to force the opponent to discard cards. i think i got everything in the guild in there without including the executioner, but im not terribly familiar with all of the mercenaries.
  4. Too late. Anyway, I would buy Levi, keep him around to prove im not proxying just to be cheap, and ask my opponent before i run levi if he minds me using a proxy. if he objects run something else. the vast majority of players wont mind one proxy. ive never played anyone who WOULD object, in fact. In the meantime i would work on a conversion just in case i want to run him in a tourney.
  5. sorry if im repeating what someone else said. i skipped a bit. "Damage resolution" is a title that covers everything from getting hit to marking how many wounds the model has. the "damage" in "damage resolution" is not Dg or damage, its a title. if the title was instead "dead puppies" it is not referring to actual puppies as this particular phase has nothing to do with dead puppies unless the defender has canine remains which is usually not true. yet if the name was "dead puppies" the phase and the steps would be the same. When you use a soulstone you prevent wounds(Wd), not damage(Dg). for example: If you deal 2 damage and declare a trigger that requires that damage is dealt, the opponents armor reduces it to 1 damage. 1 damage is converted into 1 wound. the defender can use a soulstone to prevent. defender uses the soulstone and reduces the wounds to 0. no wounds are recorded as a result of the attack. the declared trigger does activate. the defender DID suffer 1 damage. he did not suffer any wounds.
  6. Just to ram Perdita up this orifice even further, self loathing only causes her to bash attack herself.
  7. Any of the family except papa are going to give you an edge with their 8 wp on defense and their ability to strike as one. Papa is a liability against zoraida. I used sonnia against zoraida once (along with collodi) and brought the executioner. i didnt know i was facing Z, just neverborn. with obey the executioner killed a guardian, sonnia, and a guild guard and iirc a witchling as well. more than the rest of his army put together. It was very ugly. He tabled me by turn 4 and I made him play it out until turn 6. I hadnt seen collodi in action and i wanted to see his movement shanigans. he took reclaim malifaux and by the end of turn 4 he had one section claimed. by 6 he had 8 out of 9. the moral of the story is this: even if youre getting destroyed you should play it out just to experience what a player (especially if hes a good one and not just lucky) can do to you. next time you face those models youll know what youre in for and be able to more effectively deal with the problem.
  8. If you want to run him off a cliff ten times with infinite move then why cant he climb down with that infinite move and take no damage? Theres nothing saying if youre being pushed you are forced or obligated to jump off cliffs, right?
  9. It's been ruled at least twice before. Add up regular damage plus critical strike then divide for spirit. http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23413&highlight=critical+strike+spirit&page=3 http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19694&highlight=critical+strike+spirit&page=2

    VS Kirai

My apologies. I was apparently misinformed. Crit strik vs. spirit has been ruled by ratty and keltheos to halve the total damage (including critical strike). So 2dmg + 2 critical strike = 2 damage. http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23413&highlight=critical+strike+spirit&page=3 http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19694&highlight=critical+strike+spirit&page=2 The misinformation came from my opponent who fields Kirai most of the time he plays so I figured I could trust him. He also said super 8 was a great movie. You'd have figured I would have learned by now.
  11. I had a similar problem when i started playing. I played other masters until i had a better handle on getting severe damage flips as often as possible. Eventually i tried sonnia again and i love her now. Tell him to cast into melee if his witchlings are involved. its easier to cheat up the damage if you hit your model and their magic resist will help them not die. also stay out of melee as much as possible. Its important to get the severe damage so you can sprinkle blast markers on his force. For the guardian i just use protect to essentially give sonnia 9 more wounds. shes very vulnerable on her own. protect will work 3" away too so if he wants he can keep it far behind sonnia or even behind some terrain next to her and still get the effect withkut offering it up as a nice juicy df3 target for stuff that ignores armor. I dont have much experience against the viks marcus or ophelia but against kirai you cant really sit in the back and wait. you need to kill her spirits to limit her ability to summon horrible things and eat you alive. my last game against kirai i reinforced her to the center of the board with lucius and charged a seishin that was in base to base with kirai so i could stand next to her to counterspell her summons and anything else she did. I wouldnt do that where a shikome could get me but it served the purpose at the time.

Im told that against spirits the damage is halved BEFORE you add in critical strike so death marshalls are effective alternatives to stalkers.

Whatmaster are you using? Ive had mixed results against Kirai. Everything you kill can come back again the next turn if your opponent wants them to. I tend to run Sonnia a lot with witchlings and yes, spreading out is bad. I try to keep my models close enough that they can support each other with the rune blades but spread enough that they wont hurt each other when they blow up. i'm probably going to proxy an exorcist and run death marshals next time and see how that works. Witchlings are too fragile and their death only does 1 dmg to spirits so its not a deterrant. My biggest problem is shikome. The guy i play will summon her several turns in a row if need be so if she starts a turn alive and activates before i kill her i can expect her to show up and attack me again that turn. its really frustrating to have a guy getsix boosted attacks with boosted damage on my master in one turn. and with nimble kirai can do this within somehing like 16" of my master (or whoever else he wants to die). Even with the guardian protecting her Sonnia didnt last long on that last game.
  14. Diversity is what I like most about malifaux. I love playing any master/faction unless I've been playing that specific master a lot lately. For a first box I'd pick something other locals don't play as much. Like if you have 3 Dreamer players, don't pick the dreamer. Other than that I would go with whatever box catches your eye. Pretty much any box is going to be decent to play with and one or two extra models makes it a full-sized game. Also, I second that Perdita isn't that terrifying (it's just the papa bomb i hate) and Nicodem isn't that weak.
