  1. The other unreleased models that I think have interesting synergy with him are the Taxidermist and Stuffed Piglets. Not sure if they will be great or not, but there seems some fun potential for shenanigans with pig-slinging stuffed piglets into the enemy - and even better if you are making those stuffed piglets from corpses.
  2. Sorry to hear that. Why not try to convert a few players in your area?
  3. This message brought to you by the Copycat Killer.
  4. I just noticed that the Tshirt entry plainly said that. Hooray for reading comprehension!!
  5. I will probably get two as well. Bowler and club for the Wastrel, and fauxhawk with club on shoulder modded to a katana for a Ronin.
  6. Will the shirts be available in the online store?
  7. I'll pick it up for the fiction alone. I have found that Wyrd's fluff is really the only fluff for miniature games that I greatly enjoy anymore. I am also very interested in the campaign rules as I used to run many Necromunda and Mordheim campaigns. Those styles of games are all gone so I am VERY glad to see Malifaux step into that void.
  8. I believe that the Peacekeeper and Austringers are still waiting to be released, they are on that list to be available in the next month or two though. I think those releases wrap up book 1.
  9. Ulix, Wong, Mah, Shen Long, Dark Carnival, Jack Daw, new book... Did you intentionally plan to take the money that was meant for taking my kids on summer vacation? Wyrd, I think you guys are going to have to apologize to my children and explain to them why they don't get a vacation. I would do it, but I will be too busy playing with my new toys.
  10. My metal Hamelin crew is one of the only metal crews I have that I was not considering replacing with plastic. While there are a few metal models I prefer that I have kept here and there, for the most part I prefer the new plastics and I have replaced most of my crews with the new models. This preview has me rethinking that (I will probably keep my metal Hamelin model though since I use the Avatar model with the hat and flute). This box set looks really cool, but I think I want to see more of what is in the Hamelin box set before I decide about picking this one up. I don't mind a billion extra rats, but I don't want too many extra rat catchers that I cannot use.
  11. I don't disagree that the art department for GW is still excellent. They really know their material and how to present it. I am not a giant fan of Jon Blanche's personal style, but he is superb at running the department and creating an overall vision. But when it comes to making games that are fun to play Fantasy Flight has GW beat by a mile anymore. Sure, not everything they make is the best game ever, but they knock things out of the park much more often than they miss. They are also extremely good at doing justice to other people's IP and cater to those fan bases.
  12. Unfortunately revenue is not really the thing that always matters for publicly traded company - profit and growth is what they are interested in. When revenue is flat you can increase profit through cost cutting, but it only goes so far. We have been watching them do this for a number of years and there is only so far it will take them. Private companies are a lot better at existing with flat revenue and little growth. GWreport their profits and they have been steadily declining. The growth trend has been steady in the wrong direction. When you answer to a board and share-holders then things can get ugly. Revenue is important, but you have to be liquid enough to last long enough to turn your assets into revenue. If your operating and supply costs are too much you can get caught on the wrong foot and things can go very bad from there. That is exactly what happened to TSR and Atari. Those companies looked solid on the outside for a long time but things were rotten on the inside and they imploded rapidly. I am not saying this is what is happening with GW, but there have been signs for a while now in the financials that point to things not being as great as they may seem and possibly some accounting smoke & mirrors going on.
  13. I just read this blog post and this guy summed up what I have been thinking for years and specifically about the new Age of Sigmar in a very well thought out, eloquent, and less hostile manner than I think I am capable of at this point (I really enjoyed your blog post as well SpiralingCadaver!). http://minimayhem-theblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/one-bloggers-opinion-on-age-of-sigmar.html His likening of Age of Sigmar to Calvin-ball is very apt.
  14. Yes, they do turn a lot of profit, but their profits have been declining and shrinking for over half a decade now. This is well known as they have to put out their financials to the public. They have spent a couple of years slashing their operating budget to be razor thin as they close stores and cut the personnel to the point where their stores are all mainly one-man operations. There is not really any fat to trim there. They also managed to launch 2 new editions for 40k in an extremely short window and went on a ludicrously fast product release cycle. And yet, they are still showing big signs of contraction rather than growth. Being a big company for a long time does not mean that the company is doing that great. Big companies don't always close their doors quickly when things are going south. Some implode overnight and others slowly spiral the drain barely clinging to life. Now, I am not saying that GW is going under, but it has not been health for a number of years. I think it is pretty obvious at this point that they have a number of systemic problems across that company and they don't seem to be willing to step up into the modern age and compete with their competitors. It took Rome a long time to slowly crumble away and get chipped apart from countless smaller forces. I think it is fairly obvious at this point that they don't really have any idea what a good direction to take the company in for growth is. Torpedoing one of your biggest IPs, and the one that you initially built the company from and spent 30 years developing is not generally a sound strategy. Given that the previous CEO regularly claimed to share-holders in his letters that they DO NOT do any market research because they don't need to, I think it is safe to say that they are very out of touch with their customer base and they are a bit separated from reality.
  15. Where did you find a Blockbuster? What decade do you live in?
  16. Sadly, the role playing games are so good because GW has no hand in making them and licenses Fantasy Flight to do it. Honestly, I think Fantasy Flight has done better things with GW's IP than GW themselves have done in well over a decade. The various board games and role playing games that Fantasy Flight makes are all pretty well done. Blood Bowl Team Manager manages to pack the best parts of playing a Blood Bowl league into a quick card game that can be played with 6 people. I think is is pretty sad when the company that brought table-top gaming to such a wide audience and drove the market for so long has lost the ability to make their games really engaging.
  17. Ugh... This game has me very annoyed. I have played GW games for a long time, although I have not touched my 40k stuff in a few years and even then I only played fairly sporadically for the last decade. But I love my Ork models and have fond memories going back to Rogue Trader. I truly loved Warhammer Fantasy despite the warts of each edition. And I honestly think that 8th edition was the best they had made to date. It had some very messed up parts of the rulebook, but the good rules they introduced outweighed the bad and for the most part they did a pretty good job keeping the armies all on a fairly even playing field - which I found astonishing to be frank (they have always been abysmal at balance in every game). They could have easily tweaked the core rules to make an amazing game. Their problem has been the fact that the game has an amazingly absurd cost to get into. They could have addressed their stupid price issue (which they still need to do or they will continue to hemorrhage players from all their games) and then created a separate skirmish game that used the same miniatures and helped on-board players into the battle game. Instead they blew the entire Warhammer world up. It is rather mind-boggling. This is a company that is well known for being really aggressive in defending their IP. So their idea of defending the IP of Warhammer is to dump EVERYTHING they spent 30 years creating about the game and make up everything from scratch. Seriously, they actually EXPLODED the world in the fluff and the new game is some strange reimagining of Norse mythology with Sigmar being the All-Father and replacing the raven motif with hammers and comets. And the comet motif no longer makes sense. In the original fluff the birth of Sigmar was heralded by a twin-tailed comet - which was why it was the symbol of the empire. Now Sigmar was the only guy that survived the world exploding so I guess he likes comets? I want to know what drugs they are spending their profits on... If they did not want to keep anything about the old world other than the name of a few gods (they changed the name of every race and army) then why not just sell the IP to someone who wants it for a boat-load of cash? It worked for George Lucas. I am pretty sure that someone would have payed a rather princely sum to get the Warhammer IP (probably Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro). Hell, some company could probably have raised the cash to buy the IP through kickstarter. But the rules are simply terrible. I have a massive Greenskin army. Now if I want to play my Orc army I have to literally yell at my opponent every time I charge him. Or I can play my goblins and give my opponent the sudden-death victory option by virtue of the troops in my army being all-round terrible and having to make up for that with increased numbers. This game is simply garbage.
  18. I believe the new book is coming with campaign rules. You do not need strict tournaments for organized play kits. These can be something to make organizing groups more exciting. Privateer Press runs a pretty laid back regular league that has some support. I see no reason why this sort of thing would be bad at all. It is simply extra stuff to keep people excited and enjoying the game. I think it is a very good idea.
  19. I like both of these guys. I was already going to pick up this set since it is a GREAT way for me to finally demo games with friends. With GW finally torpedoing one of my favorite games for the last couple of decades (really loved Warhammer Fantasy), I have decided to finally make a concerted effort to grow Malifaux in my area. Previously I had introduced a few people with a couple of games at my house, but I don't feel that I have enough crews put together that make for good introductory games. I hope that the two crews in this box have been designed to be new-player friendly, but also showcase some of the model-interaction complexity and tactics that Malifaux really shines at. But I am happy to see that the henchmen look to be fairly useful outside of the confines of a starter set. I love the crazy Doctor Grimwell. It is good to see that this set is more than just for new players. Well done once again Wyrd!
  20. I figured 5 would be enough since you can make some of the spaces walled off impassible areas.
  21. So here is an interesting story. When 10-Thunders came out in 1st edition I bought almost all of them. Since I really like Indiana Jones and I have a St Bernard named Luna, I decided to put together McCabe's crew first (not to mention I really like the Wastrel's homage to Charles Bronson, Clockwork Orange, and Bill the Butcher). But, while I was putting them together I lost the odd neck piece that goes to the dismounted McCabe. The parts then sat on my desk for a while and eventually I lost both the mounted and dismounted head. So I put the parts into a storage bin and left them. About 2 weeks ago I finally found an ebay seller that is buying Malifaux crew boxes and selling the parts individually. So I bought McCabe for relatively cheap to replace the parts that I had lost rather than purchasing a whole new crew box. So now I have the parts to finish assembling him and I was probably going to finish off that crew after I finish with Yan Lo.
  22. I think you can find a Primus song for pretty much any master in this game.
  23. Yeah I have been waiting for this kickstarter and have been watching it since it started. I did the math and to cover a 3' x 3' table you need roughly 5 sets. Of course, that is to fully cover the table in tiles. If you are building an underground tunnels or sewer then you don't necessarily need the entire board covered with tiles and you could get away by using less sets to make a series of tunnels, hallways, and large rooms. I plan to pledge into this kickstarter at the $260 level, which gets you 5 sets and any stretch goals they unlock. If you look on the Manorhouse Workshop website you can see more pictures of how this kit can build and other tiles that they will probably unlock, such as wooden staircases that allow you to build upper levels and 3-dimensional boards. This is the best underground/sewer set of modular terrain that I have seen and while it is not cheap it is really very affordable given the quality.
  24. Use it as a Desperate Merc instead then.
  25. I believe there are some guides and examples in the terrain sub forum. You can also just do a google search for wargaming terrain tutorials. There are a ton of them scattered across the internet.
