  5. Everything you have looks amazing so far and especially when you have them together like Perdita's army (papa on the cactus is hilarious). And the executioner is incredible. A few tips and pointers I can give you (though I'm an extremely slow painter in comparison to this lol). Try to thin out your highlights a little more and do it in numerous coats (especially with skin), on some of the models the highlights come off a bit harsh in contrast to the base color. However for things like leather, brighter, reflective looking highlights are actually what make it. Google-ing black leather, while dangerous I agree, can actually help so you can see how light hits it. For basing, try basing by hand a couple times. I know it's slower than spray priming and then washing it with black, but I've noticed between the two I lose so much detail when spray priming, and I can thin and control my paint as much as I need to. What's nice about hand basing too is it gives you a chance to get your hands and eyes everywhere on the model before you even start giving it base colors. I use bleached bone for 99% of my models which also helps for a base face color to work off of. (Excuse the giant image but http://i.imgur.com/vx1k5.jpg all the bleached gives you an idea). The last thing, and I don't know if it's the camera or lighting, but your models come off a little bit shiny. If that's the effect you're going for by all means keep it. Personally I slap on 3 or 4 coats of testors dullcote to kill any shiny my washes leave. You can definitely see your improvement on every model you're painting and I'm sorry this post is like rant worthy long lol I hope a helps you even a little though and I can't wait to see more!
  6. Oh wow there are other people who pick up Nanowrimo. I'll be following this and maybe it'll give me the motivation to post some of my work (since November seems to be the shortest of months for the last four years). Great start so far I can't wait to see more.
  7. A continuation of my last thread. Long story short I lost about 9 armies this week due to one oversight and I'm trying to replace them. I was able to take a pretty decent chunk out of the list this evening but still have a ways to go... So I'm looking for the following in any condition except modified (even painted at this point is fine). PM me offers, thank you so much. 1 Teddy Pandora (3 Sorrows) Lilith (Lelu, Lilitu 2x, Nephilum -All-) Rasuptina Crew (December Acolyte, ice gaiman, cerberus, Ice golem) Ophelia Box Somer Teeth (Pigapult, gremlin taxidermist, Bayou Gremlins, Warpig) Puppet Austringer Canine Remains The official Rules Manual Block of Dice Glass counters
  8. One crew down, lots to go, PMs and offers still being accepted. Thanks guys.
  9. I made mine from 99 cent plastic for sale signs. You can use those or plasticard which is sold at most hobby stores. Cut them into thin strips with an exacto knife, you can texture them with a dremel if you like then line them up on another piece of plasticard and fit it to your base and paint. It honestly takes 45 minutes from start to painted and is ridiculously cheap. There's a youtube tutorial as well. Give out a shot it's worth the two dollars.
  10. Only 250 released but I'm going for it lol If you have one you're interested in selling PM me. http://shop.kingdomdeath.com/product/grand-mother Also buying a witchling puppet for around $4 (or I have a few puppets from the first set/expansion I can trade) and miniature suits of armor if they exist =D Thank you!
  11. So I just ordered this guy: http://shop.kingdomdeath.com/product/kings-men and I'm looking to do my first small diorama piece. I'd like to put him among other suits of armor but so far I haven't found anything like I'm looking for (think ye old armory style suits of armor). I'm wondering if something like this even exists. Anyone have any suggestions? Any help or comments are appreciated.
  12. Your sculpting is gorgeous. You did a fantastic job on the avatar and I like the mad scientist additions you gave to him, fits his character more I think.
  13. You did a great job, I love the little skull on Perdita's base. It's good you kept a consistent color scheme throughout I think that's an awesome way to connect an army together.
  14. These are gorgeous; the onryo and Zoraida especially. You're doing a fantastic job on your challenge, everything looks incredible.
  15. These comments were amazing to come home to, thanks so much everyone I really appreciate it. As far as the fire goes, this was my first attempt at fire and I was really nervous of botching the whole thing since it's a major part of her model (and this was mini practice for when I start on her avatar). I actually used this awesome tutorial: http://warhammer.org.uk/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=43941 to start off a good basis of how to paint it. Now that I look over her I can probably wet blend it a little better to match her model more, but as a first shot I'm really happy with it. Not to mention my phone camera seems to have blurred out Jack and the fire attached to him pretty badly. I can't wait to see the style of fire painting on a larger scale though as the bits around her are so tiny. Thanks again for everyone's comments!!
  16. lol I didn't even realize that until looking at that now. I tried to have her coat cut into her face a little more than it should have anyway because of how the mold is shaped, but otherwise I have really no qualms with the model itself, her first sculpt really really bothered me, so I was ecstatic when this one came out. ...Oh god I should paint my nails too before more pictures lol Thank you for all of your compliments!!
  17. I love the colors on the Storm. I wasn't a huge fan of the original blue but the whites work really really well on him. Great job. And how you paint fur and fluff blows my mind between her coat and Rasputina's hood; they're awesome.
  18. My showgirls have taken a [temporary] back seat to guild. A painting contest came up about a week ago on Reddit, and even with the time constraints I decided to try it for a challenge. So for mini number six, I painted Sonnia's alternate sculpt which I'm absolutely in love with, and finished her hours before the contest ended; about five days total. Thank you Mydnight for showing me your lighting set up it's what I was using to take these pics. I had to use my cell phone camera because I can't get my actual camera working so the pictures are a little bit blurry. Front: Back: Out in the wild: A little better picture of Jack her skeleton head: It was my first time attempting osl and it took me a few tries to get it to where I was happy. I did some on her base, coat, armor and chain. It's a little hard to pick up in the pictures but it's light enough to notice in person. Also the base is from the Mali fire base pack that T3t picked up for me. Everything in there is seriously fantastic and I plan to use more of it for my witchlings. If anyone's interested in seeing more WIP and the other entries in the contest the link is here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Malifaux/comments/jzexn/single_model_painting_contest/ If you'd like to vote, you simply need a reddit account and you can do so here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Malifaux/comments/kfah9/single_model_painting_contest_judging/ As always, C&C completely welcome and appreciated. Her avatar is up next and my w&n brushes just got here; I'm ecstatic to put them to the test.
  19. Just a tip I picked up awhile ago and found useful; if you're just starting out and need the practice, paint the eyes so your model is looking off to the side. It's so much easier than trying to match up the center imo. Give it a shot and see if out helps, but 100% agree you need good brushes thin paint and a steady hand.
  20. Finished my performer! I just have to get a working camera, mine decided to stop working earlier this week.
  21. I'm in love with the osl on datsue-ba. If you don't mind me asking how did you make the bases for your Kirai crew? I love how they look.
  22. In regards to your mannequin question... I agree she could use a little something to make her colors pop; as of right now she's almost completely blue and her skin kind of mingles with that too. Purple around the middle ribbon and maybe on the really tiny bows (I've been trying to pick those out with a separate color) would be a small change but I think it would have the effect you're looking for. You could also try to keep her shoe laces blue and give her black boots for a more dramatic affect against the dress... Just suggestions though, otherwise I think they look marvelous.
  23. More puppets to colorrr oh goodness. Thank you guys. Can't wait to see what comes next.
