got bored at work and started a web comic
pixelante replied to hereticofyew's topic in The Writing Room
These are ok, I'm sure they'll improve with time, but you need to use a proper font for the text. -
So I picked up a box of these almost on impulse, I mean I had heard they where ok, but I hadn't really read the rules. So now that I have had a look at the card I am just not feeling them. Maybe its partly the look because they really don't fit any of my crews, I really don't like the "metal skin" look and this might make me reconsider the Rail Golem too. In fact I think I might look for a Warjack or something like that instead to use as the Rail Golem. Anyway its not just the look because I am having trouble imagining how they are gonna get used with Ramos or Khaeris because they are definitely not going in my Showgirls crew.

I think its the fact that she goes from a Master assassin to messing with your opponents hand and she losses illusionist as well and so becomes pretty slow by comparison.

Podcasts that cover competitive material?

Really? They aren't great about updating, but have they made an announcement? -
heh, so when did you decide to change wargroup to crews?

Did I say scalps? I meant shoes ;P

Gamer's lounge does the occasional in depth review of masters which is more about tips and tricks the masters do rather than a play by play of any particular game that may or may not suffer from fuzzy recollection. -
Yeah it was my second time encountering Misaki too, so it just didn't click when he said that he had no stones. now that I think about he could have pulled Misaki back with an Oiran's lure, though I don't think that would have stopped me from claiming her scalp.

Hmmm I am on the side of obvious forgery is obvious.

So I have just gotten home from a small tournament at Conquest Melbourne that was run by Zepnick Games. Overall I came second winning three games and drawing the last. But in my defense it was contain power against Zoirida :1_Exhausted_Puppet: yeah it was like that. But I thought I'd share some fun caster kills I made in my other three games. In the first game my opponent throws out Misaki to take down the Coryphee before it can duet but doesn't succeed. So Colette is all like "stacks on Misaki!" The Corphyee forms Voltron and hits Misaki doing average damage and triggering Hypnotic Movements making all Misaki's resists take a . Mechanical Dove flies up and casts Magician's Duel for a bit more damage, followed by Colette with another Magician's Duel that leaves Misaki on 2 wounds and finally Cassandra dances in does her blonde act making Misaki's defence a and takes the last wounds for a first turn caster kill The second game I begin by asking my opponent how many soulstones he has and he responds 0, I blink, add up his crew and say ok, because I thought she was like Outcasts masters with a 0 cache. Anyway I draw a red joker with my first hand and I'm like I know who this is for and I lure Misaki in with some Doves and then illusionist into range and hit her with an overpowered Magician's Duel and cheat in the red joker and flip severe. After he removes Misaki I ask to see his card again and point out she had 4 SS to spend, not that it really mattered because Colette had reactivate and plenty of SS to pelt at Misaki until she stopped twitching. Lesson learned, know you master and never leave them unsupported. The third game was against Lady J with a Guardian, Pale Rider, two Witchling Stalkers and Nino. I Fielded Colette, 2 Coryphee, Performer, Johan, Oiran and a Dove. The Strategy was Slaughter Gaining Ground Variant and my opponent took Bodyguard and Kill Protege (Coryphee), while I took an Eye for and Eye and Kill Protege (Pale Rider). We start the game with a bit of shuffling, Oiran goes defensive, the Performer picks some flowers in the forest and the Mannequin attaches itself to Colette (I think). My opponent, forced to deploy first had a small cottage braced by two fences, on one side was Nino and the two Stalkers and on the other side the rest of his crew. The middle of the board was dominated by this ruined tower/tree thing that you can buy from Battlefield in a box. Why is this important? Because I kept the tower between my crew and Nino's line of sight. So in the shuffle Nino and the Stalkers move up trying to get some line of sight. Colette activates, gets reactivate and SS manipulates for a SS and buries Johan with disappearing act. Guardian does its thing the Dove sings a tune and the Pale Rider comes forward and tries to shoot someone, Lady J had also activate by this time as well. Corphyee activates moves within 8 of the Pale Rider. Colette reactivates swaps places with the Corpyhee and goes for Mannequin replacement Cheating in a tome and flipping two crows |: not even a stinking :masks for a refund. I curse, shrug and unbury the Rider in the midst of my crew and in melee with Johan I dance Together the Corphyee and then I win initiative. Johan flurrys and hits for weak, weak and miss, just as I'm about to hand it over to my opponent I suddenly remember that Johan has Solidarity because he is within 3" of Colette giving me the 2 CB to turn the miss into a hit and the Pale rider is pasted all over the side of the tower/tree thingy. Lady J walks up and tries to deck Colette and I flip the red joker and Lady J the bird as I swap out Colette for the Performer who is solidly impaled on Lady J's big stick. It is ruled that the reactivate from Precious can be given to a model that hasn't activated, so I give it to the Coryphee Duet who select sword dance double move to Nino and striking him twice. Guardian moves up to Lady J and uses it 0 ability. Colette casts Discharge Soulstone at the Guardian fails, reconsiders and casts Disappearing Act flipping a 12 of :tomes and discarding a SS for a 2 of :tomes and 3 of :tomes and turning it into a Mannequin in melee with Lady J. I think I have my activations messed up, but anyway the combats continue Nino and the Stalkers duke it with the Corpyhee Duet that polishes off Nino with its reactivation. In the following turn my opponent wins initiative and activating Lady J beats up a Mannequin and a Dove. The Duet activate to put paralyze on one Stalker and Slow on the other with Blinding, the slowed Stalker gives the Corpyhee a solid spanking in return. Colette activates, staggers out of the forest and falls short of Magician's Duel with Lady J and goes for a reactivate. The remaining Mannequin activates companions with Colette and the Oiran, tries to mess with Lady J and fails. Colette moves up and gets a Magician's Duel off on Lady J and the Oiran lures Lady J into melee with Johan who flurries again for some damage only to get a sword to the face from Riposte putting him on one wound. Lady J is at about half wounds at this point and has been popping SS like candy using her last one to get the riposte off. In the last turn I win initiative and elect to flurry with Johan, again, I finish off Lady J. In return my opponent kills the Corpyhee leaving me with three significant models to his two giving me 4 VP to his 2 and tied with the strategy. All in all I was pretty pleased with how I went, I acknowledge that it seemed that most of my opponents were unfamiliar with Colette and also relatively inexperienced, but then I havn't played much either, the only real difference was that in the week leading up to the event I took the time to read and watch the various strategy guides out there for the Showgirls and read their cards.

I don't like the Watcher, I mean you are right to give him some height, but half the height should be a pitch black rod or transparent plastic rod. As it is the pose is a snapshot in time seconds before the Watcher crashes and burns after clipping its wing on the pillar. Its very good painting though.

If Von Schil has a Librarian in his pocket make a point of going after it and one of two things will happen. One is that your opponent will be worried about keeping the Librarian alive and divert resources to protect it, including perhaps Von Schil himself. The second is that you succeed in taking down the Librarian and your opponent isn't so keen in placing Von Schil in harms way without a heal button to keep him fresh.

I can see several areas that could change, nothing so drastic as loosing the cards, but it could be simpler like folding the whole magic as a separate action into strikes. Also I think there are abilities that are pretty similar like Brutal and Critical Strike that as far as I can see, don't need to be different from each other.

In the 5th book she falls in love with Viktoria, but is then tragically stabbed in the back by Lady J. and dies.

Need help picking competitive Master/group.
pixelante replied to Alex89's topic in Malifaux Discussion
I really don't think that at all, not with many of the really good players taking masters many have dismissed as being sub-par and winning games if not tournaments with them. Sure you might need to be a prodigy to win with some of the masters, but win you can, and that in my mind, says that any master can be competitive, even if I have to add the caveat- in the right hands. -
Need help picking competitive Master/group.
pixelante replied to Alex89's topic in Malifaux Discussion
You have to understand that all of the Masters are competitive and it is just a matter of learning how to use them. You need to consider what your style of play is. You say you like shooting, well then on the face of that you could pick the Ortegas or the Freikorps with a Convict Gunslinger. If on the otherhand you enjoy getting up close and personnel you could take McMourning, Lady J or the Viktorias. If you like running circles around your opponent with movement shenanigans then Colette might be what you want. However, from what I've heard on the various podcasts, is that Lynch is a dirty, dirty manipulator that is solid cheese in tournaments. So ultimately though what you need to do more than anything is practice, practice and practice some more. -
The problem with stage bases is that they are kinda boring. I've tried to alleviate this by increasing the contrast of the wood grain, but this will only do so much. Does anyone have any ideas on how to accessorize "stage" bases or know of a company that might sell the appropriate parts?

Freikorps Armor - Simple vs Complex duels
pixelante replied to IntereoVivo's question in Malifaux Rules Discussion
I think that is a pulse too, so the friekorps armour would ignore that too. -
Whenever I see the flamewars that spring up over whether XBox is better than Playstation or vice versa, I can't but help wonder if such rants aren't fueled by a little bit of envy on both sides. "I REALLY, REALLY LIKE [iNSERT GAME/SYSTEM/MERKAN/McGUFFIN] BECAUSE IT IS SOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN [iNSERT GAME/SYSTEM/MERKAN/McGUFFIN] AND I DON'T FEEL ANY DOUBT OVER CHOOSING X OVER Y!!!!1111!!!!" Or something to that effect and I can't help think there is a bit of this envy when it comes to the miniature hobby. Do I think GW marketing department is from an alien dimension? Sure I do. Am I going to stop playing GW games solely on the strength of their obtuse and unknowable, eldritch marketing strategy? No. I like the setting. I like the way the game plays and so I will continue to play the game as long as I enjoy it. Furthermore, though my armies are complete and I do not need to buy any GW models I know I can always look to the secondhand market if I wanted to expand my present armies or purchase a new one. Especially when it is amply fueled by people rage quitting GW. You say that you've had it with GW and its reassuring to see GW being so unfriendly to its market, makes you feel good doesn't it? Makes you feel like you made the right decision selling you two hundred piece Space Marine army on eBay at a loss.... ...but I know better, I know you still crave a bit of that plasti-crack. Go ahead, its ok, the first space marine is free

Freikorps Armor - Simple vs Complex duels
pixelante replied to IntereoVivo's question in Malifaux Rules Discussion
Anything that cause damage is modifiable by armour. Anything that causes wounds directly though is not modified by armour. -
New Fairbank Radio Episode 01: Here Comes The Boom
pixelante replied to Loxley's topic in Malifaux Discussion
Another Malifaux podcast? I am gonna start the deadpool at 10 episodes. -
It is probably worth noting that Southern Charm is not totally cuddled, because if the spell has a damage component that will get a negative flip.
-
That is stupid. If I am casting a fireball at someone it is the same as if I was shooting a gun and so any abilities of the target that would make hitting with a gun harder should also apply to spells targeting that person. Spellcasters should not have this advantage over gunslingers because spellcasters are as common as gunslingers. Furthermore it has negative impact on models whose only defence is this attack modifier. Now this isn't to say all attack spells should be modifiable. For example a spell like Lure, while it is targeting a model isn't shooting a fireball at the target, rather the caster is literally flashing her **** at the target so this wouldn't be modified. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if there is a component to the spell it should incur the penalty.

Discuss some ideas for your first crew
pixelante replied to malifauxnoob7's topic in Malifaux Discussion
The pros to paying a crew is that you have a painted crew that looks good and you saved yourself time and sweat trying to paint them. The cons are of course that you will, at some point, be paying your friend to paint more models for you and if you don't paint you will never learn how to. At its most basic miniature painting is an exercise in paint be numbers, ut of reach only to those without fine motor skills. But if you are only in it for the game and not the hobby then go ahead and buy it, its good value.
