  1. My advice would be don't kill your own dogs!!!! I used to play a lot of the body part farming lists that are popular on the forums with McMourning and find that it's much better to be able to field tons of cheap models and out-activate your opponent. Your dogs are very fast and when they're near each other, significant so they can claim objectives for you. Also, they're pretty vicious for a 2ss model. Your original idea for a list looks solid but I would consider looking into more cheap models as McM can run a horde very efficiently. My favorite and most successful crew I've ever used in Malifaux looked like this at 35ss: McMourning + Avatar Zombie Chihuahua 4x's Canine Remains 3x's Necropunks 2x's Night Terrors Desperate Mercenary Rotten Belle That's 13 models, which pretty much guarantees you will out-activate your opponent every time and be able to cover a wide area of the board. As these get taken out, McM can create heavy hitters like flesh constructs and rogue necromancy as they're needed. The best rezzer philosophy: don't pay for anything you can just summon later.
  2. Join me and represent your favorite faction for the kickoff of Wyrd's Dead of Winter campaign with a one-day achievement league at Mercenary Market in Costa Mesa this Thursday, January 17th from 3:00pm - 10:00pm. There will be a $5 buy-in which will go towards prize support. Mercenary Market 2263 Fairview Rd. Ste. P Costa Mesa, CA 92627 (949) 722-8342
  3. Seriously, this is one of the most fun schemes in the game. It is very challenging but super rewarding if you pull it off. If you accomplish it then no matter what you can always brag to your group about how your copy cat killer heroically capped some model it had no business removing from the game. Sure it's difficult, not optimized, silly, and you have to be a special kind of lunatic to plot devious ways of killing important models with something so insignificant, but for a Seamus-specific scheme I wouldn't want it any other way.
  4. Location: Mercenary Market 2263 Fairview Rd. Ste. P, Costa Mesa, California 92627 (949) 722-8342 Time: Registration begins at 11am. For this tournament you will need a 50ss hiring pool that includes Bishop. The tournament is an attrition format where the first round will be 35ss, the second round will be 25ss, and the final round will be 15ss. Bishop must be hired into your crews every round! Also for this tournament hiring restrictions barring masters from hiring Bishop will be lifted. On Bishop day, anyone can hire Bishop! Non-outcasts must still pay the extra ss for hiring Bishop. There will also be a Bishop painting competition. The Packet for this event which explains all the intricacies of hiring pools and how to hire your Bishop can be downloaded here http://www.facebook.com/groups/socalmalifaux/453130614746605/ Please note that this event differs significantly from a standard gaining grounds tournament. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!
  5. Whoops you're right. Too bad because Bishop in a cowboy hat would have been hilarious.
  6. Bishop is one of my favorite models in the game and most people don't like him much so I frequently toy with ways to get the most out of him on the tabletop. Here are the most fun synergies I've come up with thus far. Glow Bishop - This solves the problem of Bishop being a relatively slow model. Take Bishop in a Kirai crew and turn him into a spirit with the lost love. You now have a spirit Bishop that Kirai can swirling spirit to get anywhere you want him on the board in no time at all. This also gives you an efficient way to heal Bishop and will ensure that he remains in the fight. Family Man Bishop - Whoops I was mistaken. Edited this one out. Rot Bishop - Back on the green team you can make Bishop undead with the necrotic machine and then use Nicodem to bolster him to a potential cb11, df 8, or cb7, df10. Scholar Bishop - This one is kind of a last resort but can be devastating and hilariously fun. Have Hungering Darkness Heed my Voice Bishop to get tons of actions out of him and then once you have an opportune moment give Bishop brilliance and have him reactivate. Beastly Bishop - Use Bishop in a crew with Avatar Marcus. Turn him into a beast to benefit from the Instinctive Behavior and Rise of the Beasts abilities. Bishop is a ton of fun. None of these tactics are super optimized but some of them can be very effective and your opponent will never see them coming. In order to inspire more Bishop hilarity I'm going to run a tournament called "A New Challenger Approaches" which is a 25 stone tourney where the only restriction is that Bishop must be hired by every player in every round!
  7. I think Molly's greatest strength is her survivability. Masterful dead eats a lot of cards, sure. But if you time it correctly, taking damage on some hits, and then shutting down major hits later, Molly can take quite a beating. That's why I like to run her in strategies like treasure hunt. If you can get the treasure to Molly there's a good chance she'll be able to hang onto it for the rest of the game. If she does die, and you have SS remaining, just use her slow to die to make a healing flip and keep her in the game. When she leads crews she's all about support and you're probably not going to be able to destroy very much on the table but you'll have a fast, survivable crew that can be frustrating to deal with. If you take her as a henchman under another master I find that she shines with Seamus, augmenting his passive abilities to buff the movement of belles and make the crew even more survivable than it already is. And my favorite is taking her with Nicodem and having her copy Rigor Mortis to paralyze models all over the table. I've also tried taking her with kirai recently and using lost love to make her a spirit and turn her into what I call Glow Molly that Kirai can position just about anywhere you want her on the board at a moment's notice to hold up key enemy pieces or snag objectives like the treasure. She's a pretty unremarkable mini that can do remarkable things when paired with the right crew in the proper situation. If the strategy calls for one of her talents I have no qualms about adding Ms. Squidpiddge to my crew every time.
  8. The Krampusnacht is still raging in this final week of November! Join me at Mercs for Demos and open play this Thursday as we come back to our normal schedule after the Thanksgiving break!
  9. Seamus is good in melee. Not because he'll kill the thing he's attacking but because you can make anything he touches insignificant. The majority of the strategies and schemes in the game require a significant model to complete. So doing something like making your opponent's master insignificant can be game changing. After you drop in and make your opponent's key piece insignificant then just lure Seamus out of the combat. Also, do not forget Seamus' passive abilities. Remember that belles get +2 to their WK when within 8" of Seamus (also remember that dead doxies, sybelle, and molly all have that Belle characteristic). Healing 2 wounds and drawing a card when a living/undead model dies within 6" is also a big deal. If your opponent has whittled a belle down to her final remaining wounds, kill it, and help yourself to a corpse counter, 2 wounds, and a new card. One of the biggest criticisms I always hear of resurrectionists is that you don't want things to die because they can't effectively summon them back but that's because people don't play rezzers correctly. When you're playing Seamus you've gotta think like a pimp! Your belles mean nothing, never think twice about putting them in any kind of danger if it inhibits your opponent from doing something they need to do or if it ultimately protects Seamus. Also, you should never worry about them getting hurt. The biggest mistake I see people making when they're playing rezzers is using their control hand on their minions. Saving all your high cards for Seamus or other key spells (like call belle) can win you games. The Belles are defense 3 so they're going to get hit, but their 8 wounds and hard to wound will normally ensure that it takes a while to actually get them off the board. Scheme choice is another big one for Seamus. Typically you should be able to handle schemes like Stake a Claim, or Breakthrough with relative ease because you're quick and able to play the attrition game well. But Seamus can handle the more violent schemes just as well as anyone else because he's not restricted to taking only belles, and rezzers have access to some godlike minions for dirt cheap!
  10. Every Thursday throughout the month of November SoCal Malifaux will be hosting Demos and open gaming beginning at 5pm and running until 10pm. As an extra special treat all these Thursday events will count towards SoCal Malifaux's winter campaign, Krampusnacht!!! Krampusnacht is a map-based campaign which uses a map of all game stores in Southern California that support Malifaux play. Each store begins the campaign controlled by their henchman representative's faction of choice. Players can take control of the stores for their favorite faction by participating in events. By the end of the year we will see which faction reigns supreme in Southern California. The full rules for Krampusnacht, written by the Ebonstar can be found at the SoCal Malifaux wesbite: http://ordosylvanus.com/socalmalifaux.com/index.php/categoryblog/60-the-krampusnacht-end-of-year-campaign All are welcome and anyone, even those playing Malifaux for the first time in their demo game, can swing the tide for their favorite faction! 15. Been preparing all year for this and it's almost finally here. I can't wait!!
  16. Good catch I forgot to change the ss count in the crew creator. Edited post and dropped a crooked man.
  17. Very cool Ratty! Here's what I came up with for the first one. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's ideas as well! The combination of these 2 strategies represents the perfect opportunity to use my favorite Rezzer master, Nicodem. Originally, I considered Seamus because his board control shenanigans would work very well in the swamp. Belles can pull enemy models into the muck and keep them from being able to move and Seamus is deadly enough to confront the enemy master, hopefully being able to remove them from the board. However, in this particular situation I would be paranoid of my opponent pulling C. Hoffman and his immune to influence constructs. With that possibility in mind here is the list that I put together. Nicodem +Avatar 2x’s Vultures Crooked Man 2x’s Punk Zombies 2x’s Rotten Belles In my mind, this is the ultimate rezzer turtle list. With corner deployment and the combination of my Distract, and my opponent’s Plant Evidence I have the luxury of setting up a strong defensive position in my corner of the table. This is an opportunity where, should I win the initiative, I may select to deploy first because looking at the board I would really like to occupy the upper left hand corner. It has the largest surface area of dry land and is an easily defensible position. There are only two bridges, which are both very long and would force my opponent into a bottleneck. But more importantly selecting this position would force my opponent to deploy across from me on the smallest piece of dry land with only a single bridge leading across the swamp. The basic plan would be to lead with the Vultures, zooming them into opposite corners of the board, giving me a good vantage point of the center of the table and activating eyes and ears so that Nicodem will hopefully be able to paralyze key models as they try to advance later in the turn. From there I would have the Crooked man advance and try to create as many shafted markers as possible to deter my opponent from key points on the board, namely the entrance to any bridge leading to my corner. The Rotten Belles’ primary purpose will be to try and pull key models into the swamp and slow down my opponent’s crew. Punk Zombies are there to advance and provide the muscle of this list but are also a fail safe in case my opponent comes out with a bunch immune to influence models, making my belles fairly useless (I can always hold up my opponent’s models with the belles and wait for them to die and create other minions). Nicodem’s job will be to paralyze key models, potentially even my opponent’s master if I can get a good enough vantage point. If my opponent is primarily immune to influence then Nicodem will activate earlier in the turn and bolster the Punk Zombies and Belles to clog up the bridges leading across the small island in the center of the table. Even if my opponent pulls Immune to Influence constructs I can still hit them with decay by firing into melee and hoping to hit my own minions, catching the guild in the blast damage. Whenever something dies, I’ll have Nicodem reanimate either a heavy hitting model like more Punk Zombies or a Flesh Construct, or I can bring out more Belles if the board control tricks are working. I’m shooting for a late game manifest with Nicodem’s avatar in this situation and he’ll hopefully act as more of a closer, being able to bog my opponent’s remaining minions in melee with tons of mindless zombies and massive Punk Zombie spawns. The list should have enough hitting power and board control tricks to keep my opponent from being able to interact with his objectives and allow me to pinpoint key minions and isolate my opponent’s master to ideally remove them from the game and guarantee earning my points for distract. Before seeing my opponent's list my initial ideas for schemes are Army of the Dead because there should be no shortage of corpse counters between things dying and avatar Nicodem making mindless zombies at the end of the game. For the 2nd scheme, Holdout would be an obvious choice when playing so defensively but Grudge, Assassinate, and even Kill Protege would also all be good contenders. The primary key to running this list is to hardly ever cheat fate when defending with your minions. I think that is one of the main things people don’t understand about playing rezzers: your crew is completely expendable! All of your control cards, especially crows, should be saved for Nicodem whenever possible. The only other time I would be cheating fate with my minions is to get higher casts on lure with the Belles when you have a good opportunity to pull opponent’s minions into the swamp.
  18. Great first episode! You guys play well off each other and there was a lot of thoughtful discussion going on. I'm looking forward to hearing more!
  19. Rasputina is far and away the best demo master the Arcanists have. She's fairly straightforward and has some fun elements like overpower that new players can get very excited about. Kaeris is also good for demos and is probably the only henchman model I would recommend for a demo crew but it is preferable to stick to Book 1 masters. Ramos would be my 2nd choice if you wanted to stick to all Arcanists. Of course I would highly recommend at least 1 crew of another faction as that will be the very best way to showcase Malifaux if you're serious about growing a community.
  20. Seamus is one of the most fun masters to play but he can be difficult if you're up against non-living crews. My favorite tricks involve getting Seamus stuck in with a few of his girls and then spamming Undead Psychosis. That spell is really Seamus' main strength, forcing your opponent to burn actions walking away is a dirty, dirty trick. If you combine this with his (0) action "No Escape" you can get a free charge against a model by forcing it to walk away from a Belle standing right next to you. Don't forget his triggers! Excessive bleeding is amazing. Your opponent can't win if they can't interact with objectives. Grave spirits are great totems but everything in your crew is ultimately very expendable, even Sybelle, so I rarely take one with Seamus. The copy cat killer is hilarious fun and the "My Little Friend" scheme is one of the most difficult but rewarding in the game. People like to hate on Dead Doxies but they're one of my favorite Minions in the game. If you have a crew of nothing but Belles you can generally go for about 4 turns before your opponent kills anything. I like to deny my opponent kills with the Doxies and then have Seamus fire into a combat and kill my own girls for the 2 wds, the control card, and the corpse counter. Which brings up another great thing about Seamus, Necrotic Ministrations. Never forget necrotic ministrations it will save your life in many circumstances. Nothing beats firing into a combat and explaining to your opponent that you're hoping to hit your own model *devil* These are just some of the tricks off the top of my head but Seamus is a very fun Master with lots of cool abilities. Try some things out and keep us updated on how it goes but most of all have fun!

  22. Huge thank you to Eric, Nathan, and Dan for making the trek to comic con and hanging out in the game room with SoCal Malifaux! They are really great down to earth guys and it's no surprise the company is producing such outstanding games and miniatures with them at the helm. I'm looking forward to hanging out with you guys again some time in the near future!
  23. You can't go wrong with this one http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Thermal-Laminator-Inches-TL901/dp/B0010JEJPC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341545641&sr=8-1&keywords=laminator I've put hundreds of sheets through this and it's still going strong. Also, just order the cheapo laminating pouches. I'm having trouble finding the link but I buy a 100 count box of the 5 mil thickness on amazon for $20.
  24. Nice! What did you order TedPro? I think my personal favorite at the moment are his western accessories. I love that carriage.
