  1. From Eric's replies on A Wyrd Place, it looks like the "And More..." will be non-crew boxes, and stuff that supports the crew boxes released, so we might see Waldgeists, Seishin, Dashel, Datsue Ba, etc. Apparently, there are 16 new boxes for Gencon, or at least, that's the hope.

    Burble :DB)

    I really hope so.

Oh and as a fanatic Arcanist player I got to say I can cope. We have done really well in Wave 1 so I can try to be patient for Wave 2.

Gremlins (I mean the designers have to be drunk as a pre-requisite for design so not surprising) and Outcasts really need to be caught up.

  2. Welcome to the game both of you.

Agree with the crowd big rule book is better as it will give you both the rules and fluff for a large number of models.

2x Fate decks really worthwhile, note that their are a variety of fate decks Malifaux makes so you can get different ones if you look around.

I'd start looking at the broad factions and each choosing one each to concentrate on (they can be the same), Asrian's post is great for what Master's fit where.

Malifaux splits in faction sub-genre's which the Wiki linked above can expand on:

    • The Guild is the quasi ruling human faction: Magic, gun play and a little steampunk and horror
    • The Arcanists are the human sort of crime/union faction: Magic, steampunk, some wild animals and a touch of horror
    • Rezzers are the mad human necromancers: Lots of magic and horror, some steampunk mixed in.
    • Neverborn are the non-human nightmare denizens of the world: Magic++, horror++
    • Gremlins are exactly that kinda evil drunken goblin hillbillies: A real mix, some magic, some gun play, drunken ninja's, crocodiles, pigs, ohhh and comedy in spades
    • Ten Thunders: A lot of hybrid dual faction stuff, the mysterious Asian crime gang: Another bit of everything faction, magic++, horror, martial arts mayhem, not much guns and a touch of steampunk
    • Outcasts are mercenaries with models usable in all factions and their own crews: Gun play, interesting interactions, steampunk, a bit of magic and horror

Not sure exactly where you want to go but looking at what you mentioned I'd have a long look at Arcanist's. You don't get much more steampunk than the crew's of Ramo's, Mei Feng (10T/Arc), Kaeris and Ironsides.

Otherwise all the factions and crews are solid and have good and bad moments and match ups. One thing is that the individual "character" of the crew's comes through in everything, the box sets really do a wonderful job of emphasizing the unique flavor of each Master and their normal minions.

    Have fun.

  3. Well folks for those who have not already seen it the Chronicles is stating GenCon will be a ridiculous smorgasbord of Malifaux goodness.

Towards the last pages it has a coming to GenCon page which lists (with box pictures and some renders) the following crews.

    • Nightmare Whiskey Golem (Justin's tweak  )
    • Dreamer
    • The Kin
    • Von Schill
    • Zorida
    • Kirai (I think)
    • Lucius

If this is all made available for the coming weekend after next I'll be going online store berserk, several crews there which I have been waiting on and it finishes all the Wave 1 crews except for the Brewmaster which I hope will be real, real soon given the Golem.

Also contained within the Chronicle is art and pre-release adverts for....

    • The Arcane Fate Deck's, in light and dark which appear to be a fairly standard fate deck though with sweet art and it appears very nice on card reference.
    • The Strats and Scheme deck including a contents breakdown and some images.

All round got to say if this is the GenCon releases (and more.... ???) then I will be satisfied and yet frustrated because I wants, I wants now and the courier dolphins to Australia are so very slow. Rathnard I believe you are a fellow Aussie and I envy you damn it all.

Looking forward now to an announcement, come Wyrd fulfil this promise.

  4. So....

Starting to get interested as to what/if the GenCon releases may be. However........

Wondering if there has been any sighting anywhere of the late July releases?

Hoping to see the Canine Remains and have demented Rezzer action but so far not a sign. Anyone have an update?

  5. This is a most tricky question.

    First:

    1. Go for a budget starter, two crews, a mini rule book, a pair of limited edition decks (just one deck with cool new art) and maybe a 'scenario' model/terrain piece like the hanging tree. Sell it at maybe 75% 'true' value. This idea is to minimize the initial outlay to get as many folks interested as cheaply as possible.
    2. Go for a mid-range set; your two crews, mini rules, starter decks and maybe add limited edition models (outcast so accessible to all?), a 3'x3' (I mean its the game table size and manageably sized), maybe some terrain pieces. In this case go for mat and terrain which is not paper/card. I think if you include terrain stuff it needs to have durability.
    3. Go all out; some crews or even a pair of 'crew redeem' vouchers?, limited edition decks, maybe a limited edition crew, play mats, terrain, dancing persons (male/female/ambiguous, flexible is the key), death ray, auto 'Mako' ability painting robot (or alternatively a dancing/painting Mako [assembly may be required]), a Ratty pinata because lets face facts its a forum role which can be expanded. Really go nuts.

The real kicker is what to even put in for crews to any starter. There are literally numerous faction/crew combinations and making any selection attractive, accessible, balanced.... Its going to be tough.

    • Guild is perhaps the prototypical 'Humans are invading' faction. Hard to pass up.
    • Ressers are cool because lets face facts Zombies are the new it thing.
    • Aracanists exemplify some of the key components of the game notably magic and steam constructs.
    • Neverborn are the horrifying dark natives of the world and the nightmares made real, how can they not be in.
    • Outcasts cool, mercenary and give the ultimate in flexibility.
    • Gremlins because in many way the mad cap, comic, deadly chaos of gremmies is pretty much Malifaux embodied.
    • Ten Thunders you get some cool cross faction action and who doesn't want to know Kung Fu.

I have got to say I'd probably go Guild (the Human tyrants) vs Neverborn (the Nightmare denizens) as the obvious faction.

Don't really play either faction but....

Perdita Crew (gun play, cool multi-gender mix, more forgiving [?], specifically confronts Neverborn)

    Against

Lilith Crew (she is the mother of Nightmares, the basic Neverborn demonic horror and I believe as nasty as hell)

Personally seeing say the Jack Daw crew we've seen initial art for and Zorida as the Neverborn/Gremlin/Voodoo madness would be amazing because it would introduce models which are not yet released in 2E so be appealing to a lot of folks just for the hell of it and it captures some interesting cross faction/multi faction interchange.

As I said its a tough question......... :blast:huh::blast

  6. Almost every new model so far I have preferred the plastic imagining as superior to the older sculpt.

For Collette this is simply not the case, which is really sad because she is the first Malifaux mini I bought and my emotionally (not so much game play wise) favorite master and crew.

The problem is in Showgirls, this Collette art simply lacks that flair which for me defines the show, Malifaux while not heavily steampunk has always been about over the top. Almost the entire range is not just about a look but about a LOOK and the new Collette art does not embody that, disappointed that the master who is literally about the glitz, glamor and stage impact instead looks like a very attractive woman heading out to a speakeasy or slightly risque party.

Prefer the old Collette. I am hoping the crew box itself is much more SHOW. :(

  7. A more interesting question for myself is has anyone seen the July releases yet. I'm keenly waiting on several things in particular the Canine Remains but as yet seems to be still something on the way as opposed to actually here. Anyone seen the stuff in stores yet?

  8. Also when considering August release....

GenCon and the fact that Wyrd has previously had special release mini's for the event which have been available online for all us poor saps who live to damn far away to attend easily. So I imagine that there will be plastic mini's in August but in the GenCon weekend release.

Guessing Nightmare......? something, maybe Johanna, maybe the Whiskey Gremlins, maybe Jack Daw and his little band of freaky misfits.

We'll see but I plan to be online and ordering August 14-17.

  9. So folks, for those people a long way from Wyrd base has anyone sighted the (delayed) May-June releases in shops yet?

I understand the chaos which has beset Wyrd and the reasons for the delays, I also was under the impression that the releases should (???) have started shipping early this week, so wondering if anyone out in the ether has actually seen them yet?

Hoping so. I'm really desperate for.... Well to be honest so many things it is a shorter list to say what I am not waiting for.

  10. Well according to Nathan (thank you Nathan) the Wyrd shrink wrapper, warehouse and general delivery battles are resolving and the May delayed products should......? ship end of this week or early the next.

So at least for the May stuff that should mean we see them June 20ish which is good.

I am assuming that from then the releases will continue steadily but have no firm idea of what or when details....

  11. I am hoping that we can get some sort of update on the delay.

Being stuck out Australia way it is as frustrating as all hell waiting for releases which are coming sometime?????

I understand the difficulty and have sympathy, I will wait but am wondering how long I need to, we don't have many brick and mortar stores to order through and I don't want to miss the Johanna release.

So any update at all on the delayed May releases, any idea when the proposed release will be?

Also will this cascade delay all the planned releases or will the May releases and June come out rapidly after each other.

Really hoping someone in the loop can update us, I'm getting frustrated checking websites to 'see' if someone has the products in stock......

  12. I suspect this may have already been discussed at length but I could not locate where.

With the 2E releases and in particular the new totems I am wondering if there will be releases or availability of certain models individually from the plastic box sets coming out.

I have already got (as I'm sure many do) a wide range of the older Malifaux crews which are being rereleased and am hoping to upgrade certain crews with only those models I don't own, an example is Friekorps where I have all the original models so am mainly short the weapons chest totem. Now certainly I can (and am) using a proxy however I'd be very interested in the new sculpt planned for release, so the question is will it only be available as part of the 2E plastic crew box or will I be able to somehow  pick it up on its own?

The new sculpts are great and in many cases I'm buying them anyway but for those crews I like but use more rarely I'm hoping I can save a little money....... Which is likely to end up on other crews I do not have when I think about it but still.

    Thanks folks

  13. OK, here we go.

It may be pointless but my street cred comes from a little over 25yrs of RPGing including an extensive convention gaming experience during the glorious 90's. I've played all the D&D editions, the Warhammer FRP's, several of the Cyberpunks (2020, Space and SR), 7th Sea, Legend of the Five Rings, Fading Suns, Pendragon, multiple versions of Star Wars, Paranoia, Call of Cthulhu, several parts of the Storyteller genre, Traveller, Bushido, Deadlands and a few more which were not memorable enough to list.

On a side note I think the Malifaux world is already very evocative and story driven. However I've never seen a truly successful wargame -> RPG crossover (even including D&D) but if any genre and wargame is primed to do this leap well it is Malifaux, I'll certainly invest a long look.

What is my experience and preferences?

    • Avoid mandatory maps, this promotes a board game.
    • Any alignment/detect malice/lies skills break plot really fast or mean you need every bad guy to have 'special avoid power x'
    • Every game is broken by power players, in the good ones it does not happen by accident
    • Levels will allow a basic quantifiable progression/power track. At the cost of people considering 'I am this level power and they are this' where level becomes the denominator
    • Classes are OK but exclusive class skills mean your options are limited and the group tends to need 'one of each class' composition
    • Instant kill equals death based on luck or pointless fudging every time
    • Dice introduce a flexible random element which I've never seen replicated any other way
    • Everyone should be able to participate, the problem with a 'special' environment is that only the special characters can get involved (like the Net, a spirit world or piloting a craft)
    • Narrow the initial selection of races and types and then expand with supplements, this lets groups initially be coherent story wise, avoids massive generation options and makes expansion and balance bloat simpler (it is easier to add new race and archtype options safely then to add to those which exist balance and supplement wise)
    • Don't have dump stats or skills which are in the game but for practical purposes (read combat) are never used or practically useless (by which I mean so powerful or story broken that they are not allowed or must be depowered artificially). If there are non-combat stats/skills have them generated (at least) on a seperate track or have taking them not seriously cut into combat abilities (otherwise the result tends to favor power gamer combat monsters vs the balanced or alternative role play concepts who have crippled themselves)

I think that the game simply must include the Fate Deck it is so integral to the genre, but I suggest balancing the mechanic with dice (Deadlands style but reverse the emphasis).

I'd prefer to see such things as mini's and maps as 'can be included' not a essential game requirement which requires working the system to remove it.

In the end if the combat system works then the game will be playable if it does not then it will be tough (ultimately every game ends up with the good (read players) folks hitting, shooting, burning or something else unfriendly the bad folks(s))

It is much easier for playing groups to 'add' to a games mechanics to fit their style than for them to take away. The simpler, faster and more elegant the base system the better.

If I had any real knowledge or skill then I would have converted all this experience into my own designed Ultimate Game System, and I have not

  14. A simple question for the model construction challenged but with the pig-a-pult model (out of the box)...

What goes where in theory to build it?

I am not sure on the rear brace and spring sections and cannot make it out precisely from the box picture. Is there another post, a link or some kind mini building gremlin who can help me?

    Thanks people....

  15. Well

Having already made my order I suppose this question thread is a little pointless however......

First will online store orders (to distant lands across oceans) over $US100- include a Miss Demeanor mini in the package?

Second does the exclusive Lady J set include V2 Stat Cards for the crew?

Third is the exclusive Lady J set actually a box set so for the still hopeful despite many boxes opened do we get a shot at a Miss Pack mini? (I imagine if I got a Miss Demeanor and a Miss Pack on the same day I would be a very happy gamer, but who is that lucky, I'd love just one).

Anyway that is it, can any wise company puppet answer my questions please.

  16. For Raspy who has most of her punch in her damage causing spells the :+fate is a very, very nice edge. It essentially gives her dangerous spells the sort of potential to kill that makes your opponent sweat.

I love the Wendigo myself and adore the model while I do not like the Essence at all, but Wendigo really enhances her crew in ways they already have for the most part. Essence enhances the Raspy spell damage output, for maximum utility, damage and generally the best all round game wining support......

Essence of Power + Rasputina = Game winning, crew slaughtering spell fun potential.

Also remember that with 'Tinas horrible slow speed extra damage with spells is even more vital as they are the main way you can grapple with your enemy.
