  1. I would not call Rasputina one dimensional exactly, she has some interesting variations in herself (limited as she is essentially a slow deadly spell slinger) and in her crew, gamin/golems, Snow Storm which really mixies things up, various human minions it can give at least 3-4 crew lists which really play differently. Collette is amazing, but she can be difficult to play, its a finesse crew in my experience, great fun but tricky and if you lose the flow its going to get bad fast and be next to impossible to recover. Also for those games you want a blunt skull crushing instrument (and don't we all sometimes) it is.... not ideal. Kaeris, never played her but she looks fun and having experienced Burning hell against Sonnia I imagine that the Arcanist pyro would be deadly. Marcus is an amazing Arcanist Master, he can play support, play 'buzzsaw of death', his crew range is extensive with the any Beast option and this gives tremendous variety, he can use Molemen and others to do interesting scheme tricks, Cojo and Slate for mid table grinding, Cerebrus and Rattler gives some horrifying fast moving melee death and that only covers some of the Arcanist beasts. His only failing is no real capacity to stand back with a gunline but he has several flying options (Raptor, Dawn Serpent, Night Terror and others) which can really mess up a gun line. In short with plenty of new 2E plastics available, multiple options and strats, reasonably simple learning curve, Arcanist and ability to deliver the all important orgy of horror (in the form of claws and wet fur, particularly effective and amusing against people who hate cats just to drive the nail in...) I'd say give a long and solid look at Marcus. Malifaux Factions are really all about a couple of Masters/Mistress which provide one faction and multiple options. On that note an amazing Arcanist self supporting combination is Mei Feng, Ramos and Kaeris as there is substantial crossover on the crew options and they each cover a different 'classic' Mali-strat (Ramos the summoner, Mei the fast moving face smash and Kaeris the ranged burning rage), that would be a relatively cheap and self sustaining multi crew Arcanist set. Also no idea at all on Ironsides, new to 2E and unreleased, never seen the crew in any form palying or opposing. Final note, loving 2E, love the Arcanist schtick, so I think you'll be pleased and welcome to the fold.
  2. In principle I don't disagree, loving where the game is currently at, don't change what works. However that does not prevent two things, one what Masters may function (fluff wise) as dual faction that currently aren't, purely as thought bubble speculation. Two the observation of the dual faction disparity (for future expansions or a distant 3E, which I hope is many years away) Ten Thunders 6 (the default as they were originally 'only' dual faction) Guild has 3, Rezzers 3, Neverborn 3 Outcasts 2, Gremilins 2 and the Arcanists 1 (the TT faction) So I would like to encourge Wyrd for future expansion to consider an additional dual faction Arcanist because I love the dual faction Masters and the variety and options they provide. Hence the direction of this post.
  3. Incidentally I must emphasize that I understand dual-faction Masters are complicated and involve significant extra game design and balance considerations. I am in no way expecting to see these changes, I am merely postulating that the fluff would/could seem to accomadate certain dual-factional set ups which have not happened. Except for Wong, he is an Arcanist, his totem is a showgirl! This is fated, to argue this invites damnation by the gamer gods (which means bad dice/cards and random mini breakage despite careful packing, so don't go there).
  4. Hey folks, This may have come up before, I'm sure many others have ruminated on this topic in some form. Several Masters in Core and Crossroads seem to be ripe (or even demanding) for multi-faction but have not been, I thought I'd postulate as to which ones I've noticed and then others can disagree and call me a fool, some folks can suggest their own ideas and Wyrd can decide I'm onto something and offer me a job. 1. Rasputina - additional faction Neverborn, Raspy seems to be the darkest, most alien and most anti-human of the Arcanists and, assuming it stays as it was, her Avatar form is a melding with a distinctly Neverborn entity. 2. Hoffman - additional faction Arcanist, this seems obvious to me, his fluff is pretty much the same as McMourning, he is M&SU and Guild both (far more Guild aligned true, but McMourning is also I think more Rezzer). 3. Wong - additional faction Arcanist, this seems obvious and is as much a entreaty to Wyrd (please, please do this) as it is anything else. Wong is the Gremlin master of the arcane, don't question it! These are more of a stretch but I think still interesting: 4. Collette - addtional faction Outcasts, her Performers are already mercenaries and I can truly picture the Mistress of Illusion and Show as being as much mercenary and independant as she is Arcanist. 5. Jack Daw - additonal faction Neverborn, I know many see him as a Rezzer but looking at his schtick (and cross over models) I see him as far more mad, twisted and infused with Malifaux 'otherness' (kinda like Zoraida a former human from 1st Breach gone native). Obviously this could be further extended. Kirai and Ten Thunders seems reasonable, Molly would seem increasingly not aligned with Rezzer goals (but what else NB? Arcanist?). I'm sure others spring to mind but these are the ones I really considered. Part of my thinking is that Arcanist is my 'main' faction (so I've read their theme the most) and also that Arcanists have only one multi faction (Mei) which seems odd given they adapt so easily as the human secret society pretending to be something else (Guild/Outcast/TT etc) or dabbling to deep into forbidden knowledge (Neverborn/Rezzers).
  5. From my perspective. I would love to see any new crew boxes and releases. This is my primary hope as it progresses the addiction and gives me a new fix....... Certainly there are some crews I'd love to see released so I'll list them cause I can: 1. Collette (my 1st Mistress and the lady which holds a special place in my heart) 2. Wong (simply because the idea of Gremlins, ninja magic and chaos appeals on so many juvenile levels it should be illegal) 3. Anything else, because I need to feed the monster.... As for cool funky sculpts and strange colored plastics, yes, cool, love them but honestly hoping Black Friday is even half as rewarding (and expensive) as GenCon was with multiple releases before I see "gimick" items. Here is hoping for an annoucement soon, assuming there even is a sale at all (as a poster above mentioned that BF sales seem to occur every other year?)
  6. I have this philosophy. If I like something but it is not perfect I will complain about those imperfections and strive to make it everything I want. When it achieves perfection I will then complain that it is perfect and that makes it boring and predictable. This philosphy is central to why I am single and spend most of my nights gaming or roaming forums concerning gaming..... So I admit it may be flawed But seriously all this post is about for me is a place where I could vent a little frustration over some things I think Wyrd should know and can strive to solve. I do cut them a break, this is why I do own most of the plastics but I think the reason Wyrd is an excellent game and developing in a positive direction is that it has a vibrant forum and community and it appears to listen to its demographic. Compare Wyrd to certain other companies which are let we say less available and responsive to their fans..... I think this type of genuine and tempered posting is what allows the game to grow in the direction we all want. I'd rather be told what I'm doing right (to encourage me to go on) AND what I'm doing wrong (because this is what I need to change) than either one or the other. Wyrd - the rules are nicely balanced, unique in there mechanics yet still effective, atmospheric, incredibly variable, imagination inspiring and the models are mostly gorgeous But Wyrd - some of your models are unworkably scaled or disproportionately sized The fact that the top section has multiple entries is why I play now. The fact that I think they will listen to the bottom is what inspires my confidence in the future of the game. For me this is not a post about how Wyrd is bad its a post about how an excellent organisation can improve on a product that I already consider to be the best overall in the current market.
  7. Certainly am hoping that this problem gets solved. The plastics are generally much better than the older metals, most of the time I prefer the sculpts and they are simpler to glue and lighter and easier to transport and if necessary repair. However as someone who owns most of the plastic range I have noted three real issues all of which have been mentioned here and each of which really aggravates me as it pollutes an otherwise excellent 2E set of rules and model releases. 1. The fact that certain mini's have clearly been crafted without table playability in mind; most notably this is true of several disproportionate totems, the Brass Arachnid is probably the prime example of this. 2. The QC issue which seems to crop up with unusual frequency in an otherwise apparently closely monitored set of rules and design concept. This is the problem which started this whole post and in several cases it has caused me to not use models because otherwise the on table theme is superb and the anomolies really jar the mind. 3. The incredibly fiddly multi part and in some cases micro part model assembly, also mentioned here and the Zombie Chihuahua and one of the Waldgiest are examples of models with microscopic plastic components. These are difficult to assemble and easy to loose or accidently break, assembling them can be agonising. Now every one of these problems is well documented, every one of them it has been stated is being addressed and should no longer occur (or at least much less). I certainly hope that this is the case, it surprises me that Wyrd a company that really owes its genesis to the miniatures is struggling the most with the quality of those figures. The rules, community, conceptual design imagery all are exceptional but the new plastic figure design, moulding and sprue process seems to be as much miss as hit. Honestly this post doesn't add much at all to this argument but another voice which hopes for and expects better from a company which has shown that it can supply that first class sort of quality. Ohhh and I have been putting together Zoriada and the Waldgiest so multi part, tiny part, complicated glue conflict nightmare scenario venting was also a worthwhile reason to participate in this thread
  8. I think a critical thing to consider is the Balance relation to Learning Curve. That is to say certain Masters and crews have a fairly obvious/simple "this is the evil trick" and are thus easy to play and get good value from very early (as with most things in Malifaux true dominance requires a long time but the good progress in a short time is the key). The summoner Masters are a generally good example of this, you summon many small/irritating/useful models and win by scheme en masse. Several of the blunt instrument smash face this way Masters are the same. It is worth noting that the generally simpler "win" strat is equally simpler for a good opponent to understand, anticipate and counter. In contrast certain Masters have a much more complex/delicate arsenal of terrible doom. I've seen numerous examples of Collette and Jack Daw in a orgy of horror where the opponents have been literally slaughtered. But each of these Masters requires really understanding both their and the games critical mechanics to maximise them, I've equally seen inexperieced players essentially doom themselves trying to use both. Here it equally is noteworthy that because they are more challenging to play the harder Masters are more usually less well understood by opponents meaning that any opponent is at a serious disadvantage, even wih warning of "this is the strat" nature, hearing is different to looking across the game table as the engine of destruction revs up and going 'how the hell did that even happen?'. So far I think that Malifaux and the community seems to have manufactured pretty solid balance in what is always an imperfect environment. There are no clearly uber dominant pieces, some are obvious-simple-powerful and others are nuanced-complex-horrifying. It classically falls to a delicate balance where the person who understands the crews on the tables best has the real edge, not the specific Master and crew but the insight into them. This for me is the way it should be. Is the game perfectly balanced? No. But it cannot be it is evolving, multifacted (with essentially infinite variable list/crew/scheme combos) and does rely on a randomisation mechanic to create the uncertainty which will further magnify any imbalance as often as subduing it. So far Wyrd please hold the current 2E course because you've got me pretty damn pleased with the journey. :+fate :+fate
  9. Hello folks, well I plan to at least give this a brawlers attempt. So put me down as an author lets see how I go. Good luck to everyone, should be entertaining.
  10. Hah Impatience from many folks demanding you do significant work for free, take your time, your work thus far is brilliant and very useful I am happy to wait. On that note I hope you and yours are improving in health, nothing is more important, so best wishes.
  11. Excellent, as usual. Your little crew of mad men and lady is an entertaining inspiration. Thanks folks.
  12. Heartily agree that getting a second box set will be an excellent and long term sound investment. Not having extensive experience with either Guild or Neverborn I'd suggest checking PullMyFinger strategy web page or the Faction pages on this forum to seek advice on good Masters whose boxes have synergy with Lucius. I was lucky and bought him during GenCon and I also picked up Zoriada and already have Justice so hoping ive got some combinations covered. Luck mate.
  13. Amen mate. I'd be elated to see it anytime in September, kinda of expect it sometime in October. It will be a long wait...... But worth it.
  14. Is Baby Fetid and alt Baby Kade??? Does this mean the Neverborn have finally infiltrated earth itself... Gratz mate.
  15. Ratty... This is a slightly worrying statement as it seems to imply that there will be no online instructions for the TtB LE Hannah, and for a person who has one, looked at it and went wtf.... I am hoping that there will be some advice, beyond the drawing you posted which while useful still leaves a large margin for trial and error - emphasizing error on a LE model.
  16. I am wondering if they have now conceptualized Collette as the subdued mistress of the show, the director and manipulator behind the scenes, hence the possibly (after all we are basing all this vitriol on a drawing not a render or much less a model) more understated look. Alternatively the Performers, Cassandra, the Corphyees and Angelica will be the stage acts and more elegant and spectacular as befits their role of distraction. This really corresponds to classic stage magician style, the gaudy misdirection while the actual magician you are not paying attention to performs the act. If this is the intent of the new images then I can get on board with that, sure I loved the original Collette and her crew (and am in the enviable position of choosing which models I'll use) but I'm prepared to rethink if the crew still has "The Show" (overall not in each individual model) look and is consistent. Guess I wait.
  17. That is also why I do one order. While it means I miss out on extra bonus minis the shipping on my order was significantly higher if I divided it down. As it was scary enough I just took one big hit not several smaller which resulted in larger conglomerate damage.
  18. Hah I was getting close to the threshold on shipping alone. I demand a free give away from the postal service to compensate for financial Miss Ery on their behalf.
  19. Shipping is always a killer, I live in Australia and my order was......... well pretty over the top. I had to absorb a pretty impressive shipping hit, over 10% of the value of the order. But basically that is the tale that I've learned to live with. I reckon give it a couple more years and it might actually be cheaper for me to join Rathnard and travel to GenCon because the flights to US will be cheaper than the damn postage to Australia. Not Wyrds fault, as much as I'd love free shipping on orders over $xxx it would result in them burning a substantial amount of profit (which tbh I'll happily sink into the company as an investment in them continuing to produce high quality game/minis) because I guarantee that the postal service doesn't do "free shipping because you post a lot of stuff". I love my country, I'd love it more if it was closer to the Atlantic or if someone invented cost effective teleportation. Pay the highest shipping and get the product the slowest via courier dolphin
  20. Has anyone tried and had success with the Dawn Serpent in a Marcus crew? I've had great irritation value with the Waldgeist, its 6SS 7 wounds Pefect Camo Df 5 Unimpeded Armor +2 can drop forests and has a respectable melee which can stretch out to 4". The only problem is its a little slow but unimpeded can help this. I find it can have amazing durability and irritation factor for its cost.
  21. I rolled this really successfully recently. 40SS Marcus Trail of the Gods Recharge Soul Stone Jackalope Myranda Imbued Protection Razorspine Rattler Waldgiest Mole Man Mole Man Hoar Cat Pride It was against a Ortega crew so I was looking to mitigate the shooting horror and one strategy was kill the protege hence the Imbued Protection but I found Myranda with this on her was both very useful and damn hard to kill.
  22. Love you guys and girls enthusiasm. Going to keep track of this thread. Worth noting from above Suvalas (I checked your list as I play Viks and am always looking for strats I have not seen), Vanessa cannot have the upgrade Sister's in Fury, this is restricted to one or the other Vik unless there has been some rules change or errata I am unaware of. I saw this tactic and thought it was a great idea, looked it up and was very disappointed it was not possible .
  23. Good luck Rath, hope the journey is amazing despite my lingering envy. Oh and as a former customer service minion, lab tech, military officer, critical care nurse and solicitor I would state that science as a career ain't so bad. Less insults, potential violence, stupid people demanding you make the problems they caused go away and I'd assume a manageable level of bodily fluids. If I could write, design, paint well or play any sport worth a damn then I'd be happy. Better yet the rise of a truly professional war gaming sport would be simply grand.
  24. Well I'll be getting a fair amount of stuff, must gather the minion dollars for sacrifice. My thoughts on the Von Schills and Ophelia is that they are about the same as the older versions, a couple of changes but not much, the important thing here is the totems. Zoriada I really love the whole box. Lucius is a couple of mini's I love and several which I like. On the small boxes I think the Hoarcat Pride looks great but yes it is expensive for game value. The Samurai look great. Waldegiest look so damn good I'm going to have to but them even though I have the old ones. Essence of Power looks so much better than the old version, but that is because the original was awful to my eye. Honestly must of the other mini's for me look really good but in the cases of those with original metal mini's not much better or worse. The two special releases N.E Golem and L.E Teddy are great mini's and hard to resist, Teddy may even demand me purchasing a Pandora crew which I've been fence sitting on. The decks, rules and other items..... well I'm almost certain to need most of them soon so it will depend on budget. It is going to be expensive and the shipping wait will be aggravating. Oh and Rathnard I still curse you for being able to visit GenCon.
