  1. Just to say that we will be doing participation demo's of Malifaux at Beer & Pretzels this week end & any Malifaux player is very welcome to come along on either or both days and play perhaps even have a go at outwitting the evilginger for more details on this event look here http://www.spiritgames.co.uk/articles.php?menu=11
  2. Just to say that Burton Malifaux nights are now on the last Tuesday of the month so the next one is 29th of may in the mean time there is Beer & Pretzels on the 12th 13th of May at which there will be casual demo's by me & I hope to rope in some of the local Henchmen as well.
  3. I am fine & I dont think its that much of problem to be honest as he should have his Lilith crew painted up by the next session. I would however warn you that the chap who he borrowed the Gremlin crew of has added a Taxidermist for extra nasty flying pigs & massacred his opponent first time out

  4. This went rather well with two new players one a magic (MTG) regular Dan who spent all evening teaching Jarvis how to play Puppet wars the Malifaux themed board game with figures lovingly painted by Sally and a new chap who turned up with an undercoated Ramos crew box& managed to beat me in a Destroy the evidence game by spamming Spiders at Jervis advice to stop me getting at the evidence markers & against Phil who used his new exploding pigs to good advantage and slaughtered the poor soul. I had to leave prematurely as I was well on my way to falling asleep in the shop but I did get Eric's Lilith crew together & they should be usable very soon. ---------- Post added at 12:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:59 AM ---------- Indeed I will have a set of campaign rules ready for next Tuesday but the basics are as discussed with each side having a virtual 50 Soul stone Brawl crew as a starting point but only being able to field 35 Soul stones worth at any one time with the rest acting as a reserve. Victory points won will count as Soul Stones & allow you to buy more models & expand what you can field "killed" masters henchmen & unique minions are counted as seriously wounded & out of commission until they are healed using soul stones & healing flips or waiting thee games for them to heal normally. Non unique stuff is just dead & has to be rehired or drawn from the reserve. Various other stuff will be covered as it happens but the theme of the game will be the exploration of a second city on Malifaux one which is much more ruinous & possibly older than the first.... I will try to post campaign reports as they happen
  5. Just a couple of Quick questions has any one done a Campaign with Malifaux & has any one got any suggestions for rules, or experience in running one. I ask because the Burton Malifaux Crew which meets at Spirit Games is considering one & as I am the organiser I have to sort the rules out, so I was asking because I really dont want to have to reinvent the wheel The basic setting is the "second city" a much more ruined version of Malifaux city deep in the interior.......
  6. Just to say that we have now got sufficient players that I am planing a campaign to give each of our games a bit more of a context & to make winning an losing mean something. I am still working out the rules for this & plan to start as soon as I am done.
  7. Had a run at this on the 9th of February but still have places & need to do more development so I am re runing this event on the 15th of March see http://www.bigbangburgerbar.co.uk/Forum/index.php?topic=2446.0 for more details & discussion
  8. I dont think Malifaux suffers from "Codex power Creep" & I know Warmachine didn't as it was an aim of the way they play tested to do just that. I think most of it is in the eye of the player & based on what works or is easy to use to be honest. I am a fan of sticking with a list & working out how it works and that takes a lot of games as there is enough variation in situational factors in any wargame particularly Malifaux that you dont know and a lot of the problem is caused by the player not the models & their stat lines.
  9. Brilliant in which case I await results as the Burton Crew are eager to go across and meet some new people & play some Malifaux with them
  10. We will be coming over to Derby for this & I believe that Phil from Spirit Games is trying to make contact with Stern via Derby wargames club but it would be nice if Sturn could drop Phil a contact e-mail his e-mail is salnphil@spiritgames.co.uk looking forward to this
  11. This is still going ahead & I have draft rules developed from Basic Roleplaying which I will be trying out I will post a what happened post here at the week end
  12. Last Night the 7th of Febuary was a good night at Spirit Games as I was combining teaching & demoing & even got to win. I generally try to lose Demo games after a close fight but one but it ended up with Sonia the guild captain & a guild guard against a lone bayou gremlin & a pigapult with no ammunition there are it seems limits to recklessness & what it can achieve.
  13. All the dates are up until the end of March on the friends of Spirit Games Group on Facebook & this Forums Calender but here they are March 6th March 13th March 20th March 27th & we will be running a campaign game alongside our more normal casual practice & Demonstration games. & finally some pictures of the Groups Crews All of which are by Jervis
  14. Pinning is a real pain & should be avoided where possible & the trick is to use a proper pin chuck & secure the drill firmly & to use a drill of the correct size for most work 1mm or 0.5mm works, & keep the drill length protruding from the jaws short. The other thing I find it best to use a soft metal pin I use cheap iron sewing pins as they are fine enough & don't ping off all over when clipped to length, & have used brass or copper wire. The other method where pinning is too fiddly is to use a mixture of thick super glue & epoxy putty instead sculpting the putty to reinforce the joint. I have just done that to the hands on the sword wielding Viktoria I hope that helps
  15. I will see if I can organise some of the crowd form Burton to come over as we have our own crew of players & loads of Crews
  16. A Duster is a long water proof over coat from the 1880 -1900 popular amongst cowboys & others who had to go round in the inclement environment of the American west. It was usually a yellowish brown - GW Snake bite leather is a good mid tone. Th judges being white would be unusual & hence it was remarked on. I haven't done any death marshals yet but I have done quite a few of the long coats as yellowish brown regardless of faction. I do a lot of the trousers as a similar colour because the early jeans where all brown rather than blue. My Guild uniforms are all deep bronze Green with Red cuffs collars & gold (yellow) lace on the Guard being modelled on Czarist Russians but there is no right colour scheme & there are no Malifaux versions of the Wargames Fashion Police either.
  17. At the moment he dosent have Perre painted & though he won the game last night 40ss treasure hunt so he could have plenty of pigs to play with all the Pigapult managed to do was splater a couple of piglets on the treasure - bad run of cards again & things came down to a mutual blowing stuff up competition between Sonia & jonsey boy which the gremlin won whilst the warpig more than half cooked limped off with the treasure. All of this was great fun. He has now gone off inwardly digesting the first reply above and giggling about meeting Rezers next week I think our resident resurectionist player may be in for a pasting. Whilst I go off and demo game with all the new folks
  18. No problem we will be here next week too
  19. I am posting this for and on behalf of our resident gremlin player who loves his pigapult but has come to the conclusion it needs more ammunition. He would like to know what Gremlins allow one to get more Piglets I am defiantly going to regret this but please help
  20. I wouldn't use dip of any sort but I do use the same idea on Malifaux figures using a glaze of Darkbrown artists ink or very dark brown paint (Burnt umber) in Tamyia gloss medium. Reaper recommend it & I find it especially good for figures with little colour variation or lots of fabric where it does nice graduated lowlights which look like you have spent hours blending and layering. It also works well on figures which like the malifaux ones have a lot of surface detail. It does dull the colours a bit but no where near as much as matt varnish can & the brightness can be brought back by a simple dry brush of the base colour & some highlighting. I am also quite a fan of using ink glazes to blend in highlights. I have used the technique on buildings & scenery and its quick and effective. There is nothing to stop you thinning Army painter products with a suitable thinner and applying it to the model with a brush it is after all at heart polyurethane varnish.
  21. welcome aboard I hope you have a lot of fun I certainly have & look forward to more. Where abouts are you so some one can invite you along to a local playing group to have a go.
  22. Leggo you would be more than welcome & I have to mention the Club bar across the road is good for a pint & nibbles. Mister_Q I would love that one of Tim Burton's animations would be very cool however ifs in Burton on Trent which might be where the aforesaid Tim's name comes form you never know. Any way I am rather hoping to try out my Rasutina crew tonight & see how they work
  23. I have started collecting Crews largely with Demoing in mind as we are very new player friendly at Spirit Games so far I have Sonia & Rasputina all very Fluff based crews & I am working on a Victorias crew & considering Von Schil as the ruthless bastard vrs the nice ladies it was Lillith but we have a new player wo wants to make the never born his thing...
  24. The rule book works if all you want is to play the game & its very useful as a reference when playing the game& handier at A5 than three A4 books. Its the Fluff however that draws me into a game and keeps me involved it did it for Warmachine & the historical periods I game where they call it History so I would love a reprint of book one. Regardless of not using it to play the game.
