  1. Good stuff so far. I did mean the Duet, as the individuals are much easier to deal with, I rarely split them up for that reason, unless I have a need to do so. For losing the initiative I keep Mechanical Doves around for the soulstone flips before the Coryphee have activated. That way I still have acces to 1-2 soulstones even before they activate. With a 20" move they can usually stay in range. I think things that can Obey with Soulstone power are very dangerous, like Perdita, Obeying them to Dance Apart (preventing them from dancing together that turn) then shooting the crap out of one of them. What about others?
  2. Right now my two favorite crews are Collette and Kirai. I played Collette recently in a tournament and other than a close game against Pandora, I went untouched. Facing a VonSchill crew next I lost Cassandra to a poor choice, but otherwise was unscathed. The success of Collette/Coryphee seems to have many from my local gaming group declaring the Coryphee undercosted/overpowered/unbeatable. I like playing the crew, but want to still have people to play with, so I am shelving the Cory's for a while and playing with some other toys. The reason for this post is to ask what tricks/tactics you have used seen used against the Cory's. I hope we can come up with some good general tactics for each faction so I can post it on my local scene's web pages and go back to playing the Showgirls.
  3. Perdita vs Lilith is a great introductory game. If you have a Local Game Store, you could ask the staff if people play Malifaux and when. At our store, myself and Koyote have crews that we regularly demo for folks.
  4. Do you have access to a Silent One? Their range buff and ability to heal Frozen Heart models is top notch.
  5. Coppelius. He can bring in extra models (Alps), his paralyze ability can help lock down a difficult model for the kill, and he is a self healer.
  6. (meant to put this on other post) Although if you haven't played Malifaux before, Collette is a little difficult to start with, they are pretty tricky (not as hard as Pandora, but definitely harder than Lilith or Guild).
  7. I play Collette fairly often. My list at 35 SS is usually: Collette, Cassandra (9), 2x Coryphee (7ea, 14), Johan (5), 2xMechanical Dove (4), and 6 SS Pool. I will sometimes put in a performer instead of the 2 Doves and start with 4 SS. Personally I like early doves because being able to move 10 and launch Collette's damaging spell is nice. They also provide coverage to the Coryphee in case of a turn 1 blow up happening to one or both of them early on-that way they have a soulstone to use before they gain Use Soulstone. To answer your question: Basic Box Set Coryphee Mechanical Doves Johan And you are set at that point.
  8. She should be called Zoraida the Sag
  9. 2 Silent Ones means you can have one 6 inches from Raspy looking around a building, and one 3 inches from Raspy looking around the other side of the building. The 3 inch one gives Raspy the +3 inch buff, and then Raspy can shoot anywhere between 16 and 19 inches away from herself. Toss in the Librarian (for a total of 23 SS) and now you have a 19" Raspy Blast with a positive flip on cast.
  10. I would personally take an additional Silent One. I don't use the molemen with Raspy, pretty much ever. I also have a preference for the Librarian, especially for heavy terrain boards-her ability to give positive cast flips and heal is awesome.
  11. Lilith. Zoraida has anatomical issues I would rather not see painted.
  12. Soulstones are there to be used. It would be a sad day to lose the game with 8 Stones in your Cache, no? For Lady J, I like to use stones for damage prevention vs Spell damage and Ranged attacks. If she gets hit in melee I like to use them to get an added card-because it is awesome to flop a mask and get Reposte. Against Raspy (who I play as frequently): Models I might suggest: -Stalkers can be helpful, their 6" negative flip bubble can be hard to deal with if they get close enough. -Sammael loves shooting Rasputina-he has the bonuses for shooting high CA models. Strategy: -You need to play with the right amount of terrain, we usually have a lot of cover where I play. That means melee models stay in cover as best you can. Giving Raspy a negative flip to hit you means she can't cheat in a Mask for Overpower nor can she cheat in a high number to avoid using a stone. She could do a focus cast, which is what you want, as it takes up two of her Activations, rather than one.
  13. Friend of mine plays: Lady J Nino 3 Witchling Stalkers 2 Death Marshalls 1 Austringer For a pretty effective Lady J list.
  14. Sounds like it was a great game! I like the Onryo a lot and run them in my Kirai crew. I love that when they die, they get to haunt someone-which is a WP duel, and gives them slow the remainder of the game-which is awesome.
  15. I am willing to bet it might be more sustainable on a different night. I know a couple of your players were Seattle refugees after we lost Fire and Sword. With the opening of the Seattle Game Club downtown-one of the owners is really supportive of Malifaux-there will be some players peeled away from the Eastside and Tacoma areas on Friday night. Fridays have been our groups gaming night for six or seven years now. I know its a bit of a drive for you, but you should come up this Friday, maybe bring your group with you, as it is the grand opening party. Mayhaps you will find some other Tacoma and South Seattle folks who would be down with a different night of gaming.
  16. Silent One's are almost, in my experience, always more useful than Acolytes. I for a while supported the Acolyte, but after having played with the Silent One's a few times, find their versality and range extension more valuable than the DA's.
  17. I agree with Wodschow. The +Damage flip for Raspy is awesome. However, the Wendigo, I believe, has the ability to eat corpse counters, which can be useful against some crews. I am not sure the use is bigger than the +damage flip, but that's a game by game decision. The Child and Student I don't see as at all useful at 3 and 4 SS respectively when compared to Wendigo and Essence.
  18. On a turn when Levi dies, if there is a Waif on the table he is placed next to the waif, the waif and any other waifs then are removed. Then you place one waif at the start of the next turn. So, at the start of the turn after Levi died and returned I would have a Leveticus that is not slow, and a Waif that is slow?
  19. Thanks Ropetus, I wasn't sure, which is why I asked.
  20. Looks like it would Woodchow, that's why it was a question.
  21. Depending on the Scheme and Strategy, one thing I have done effectively is run Ice Gamin, get them into melee quickly, and then blast the melee with Rasputina. If I hit my opponent great! If I hit my Ice Gamin, oh well, I will still get the blast markers and get him to Shatter for 2 more damage, then their model is standing there not in melee, with at least 6 wounds on it, just in time for Overpower. As for the the Arcane Reservoir from the Librarian not stacking, I am not sure that is accurate, we should post in the rules forum. The stacking of effects is specific to effects impacting a model. I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe you can't have multiple draws from Arcane Reservoir, especially since it comes from two different sources.
  22. Couple questions for you, are you certain the "beast" Coryphee can use it's Bulletproof 2 against redirected damage? I am not sure you can because Marcus redirects the damage, and not the actual model shooting. Is it still considered range damage on the Coryphee? The Shikome and Cerebrus is a very, very potent combination-I would use it in the place of the Coryphee. How are you going to hold the Soulstones for the Cory's? You have good synergy for the Cory's with Collette because of her SS generation, but Marcus is not the same. Also their damage flips are only 2/3/4, I have used them very effectively as a scalpel-especially abusing dance apart and dance together-but they are not a hammer, and Marcus needs a hammer. The Shikome/Cerebrus combo is a huge hammer that clubs folks into the ground. The moleman trick is awesome to avoid early shooting. Tunnel him on turn one, and then just keep walking him with Marcus (I know Marcus is very fast, but Armor 5 vs. shooting is worth slowing down for-especially with a beatstick running around. The Coryphee are incredibly fast, and should be used for Strategy/Scheme completion and should not be tied to Marcus defense. I have effectively run at 35SS: Marcus Cerebrus 8 Shikome 8 Moleman 3 Waldgeist 6 Myranda 7 (she can become a Shikome!) Jackalope 1 6 SS pool.
  23. I think they have it right above, damage output is sometimes lacking for Collette and her crew, struggling a bit against Armored opponents. Although, overall, her basic crew is very solid. The one issue with her for tournaments is if the tournament allows proxy's. If they don't she becomes significantly less useful because of the lack of mechanical pigeons.
  24. Might I also suggest, if noone else has, throwing in the Freikorps Librarian? My group uses a lot of terrain, so when playing Raspy, I am always shooting into cover (which would normally be a negative flip)-but low and behold the Librarian has an ability to give Raspy a + casting flip meaning, she is shooting into cover at a straight flip! Attach the essence and you are good to go. However, this strategy does not win friends, nor influence people. As an added bonus of the librarian, you also get an extra card (for a hand of 8 in scraps) and a healer.
