It appears that I have never made an introduction thread. Oops.
I started playing Malifaux last Septemeber. I run mostly a Seamus crew with The Hanged. I also started up a Gremlin army but I have been as interested in it as the Seamus group.
I recently picked up Puppet Wars and it has been a ton of fun. After checking it out at Gen Con, I was hooked. I love the simplicity that it can offer at the start and the complexity that it offers once you get a better understanding of the puppet abilities.
I play in Indy with three other friends. The group hops around between several miniature games but the main game over the past year has been Warmachine / Hordes. I like the skirmish size of Malifaux compared to the somewhat larger battles in WmH.
Outside of miniatures, I am an amateur photographer, enjoy wine, and work in accounting. I also have a wonderful wife and two crazy dogs.
I think that sums me up.
I haven't had a chance to play Marcus yet. I do like his relationship with stuffed animals (moleman, guild hound, Teddy,Zombie Chihuahua,Silurid, December Acolyte, and Razorspine Rattler.
Wow that is very impressive. I like the wood planks for the work benches. Will you have a marker of somesort to know who controls which workbench? I think that may get confusing at some point.
It's great to hear you are enjoying it so much already. I've really thought about adding the mole to my crew. March him up the board with the Death marshal next to him on the safe side of the impassible terrain. Now he is sitting at 12 defense and 5 combat. Not too shabby. Now think about having the austringer in the mix as well. That could be dangerous for the enemy cast if they happen to be near that mole.
Monticus,
That sounds pretty awesome. I can't wait to see the pictures of what you come up with. Don't forget that my mole can go on impassible terrain. You could probably swap your awesome cork/thimble with a token until the mole gets done.
Does the target puppet have the opportunity to dodge this attack as normal?
I think I played this wrong last time and just flipped a card, replaced it with a 5, and then discarded a crow. Then I tore apart the target model without going through the whole attack phase.
I have a quick easy question regarding Dodge:
My Rotten Belle has a Defense of 7:crows
If I declare a dodge and play a 11:rams, the 11:rams is the new defense.
If my Belle has has the Cute Button Nose upgrade (+:masks), her new base defense would be 7:crows:masks.
If I declare a dodge and play a 11:rams, the new defense would be 11:rams:masks
Is that correct?
Thanks!
Bells make good tar pits. Stick them in the way of stuff to slow up enemy movement. If they get killed, so what? Just bring them back out and clog up those lanes. Having the Crow in the defense can also help drain the opponents deck if they aren't able to flip the crow on the attack.
The crow crew doesn't do as much damage as the ram crew, it doesn't get to move like the mask crew, and it isn't as controlling as the tome crew. It is a resilient crew that is hard to kill.
I would like to add a quick question in this thread as well extending the Acolyte question.
If the Judge kills the Acolyte, are the Acolyte's upgrades that are attached get removed from play as well?
And a nother question on the same idea: If the Judge kills a model adjacent to the Acolyte, does the Acolyte get the upgrade or is it removed from play?
In most games you would be able to take at least two sidekicks.
Lucious
Judge
Nino Ortega
Sebastian
Bete Noir
Baby Kade
Hooded Rider
Joss
Misaki
Rusty Alyce
It depends on the way you plan to play the game. I really like the Hooded Rider, Misaki, Bete, Baby Kade, Rusty Alyce....ok I like them all.
Why do you say "or lowest"? Isn't it always the higher card on the flip that "wins" when people flip the same card initially?
I played this as the upgrade went into the scrap heap of the person controlling the Acolyte. I'm interested in hearing what Karn has to say though.
I agree that the ability wouldn't lower her AR cost even though this would put her more in line with ther other masters.
We did a puppet draft today and I was lucky enough to pick up the convict gunslinger pawn. This little guy can be the worst pawn ever. Luckily enough for me, he was the best pawn ever. He walked up to a Death Marshal and played some puppet roulette. The flip turned up a 10 and the Marshal was torn apart! His next animation, I walked up to Lady Justice and attempted puppet roulette again. Another ten was flipped from my deck. Game over! I love when the cards work out in my favor.
