  1. Droachmega, are you referring to the achievement league? There was in fact a gaslight league, and I would call it a resounding success! I did not stick around long enough to find out how many participated, but there were at least a few dozen that I know of. Note: Sean, your idea for terrain cards is awesome and I plan to implement it (probably to the hisses of our Adepticon terrain masters) ASAP for next year. *grin*
  2. Unfortunately, the closest gaming store had closed due to attending events in the con... and the two second closest were 45 minutes away if you found the magical time between morning rush hour(s), lunch rush hour(s), and evening rush hour(s). We had a few people that were almost going to head over until they realised that at that time of day it would likely take them twice as long one way. Moral of the story... city driving sucks.
  3. ^^ There's a reason my Nicodem has a vulture that looks like it was decapitated, blood and all. Somewhere in my house or FLGS or vacuum is the poor vulture's head. Poor headless vulture. But he does look bada**.
  4. My new favorite comment by Nathan. For today.
  5. Dan, we'd be happy to have you be a guest judge. Plus, our house is only a few miles from the airport... I can understand missing this time - but next time you won't be so lucky! Have fun at GenCon for us.
  6. No kidding! I just got the core set of Puppet Wars painted, and now I'll have to buy up and paint even more? Disclaimer: The only thing "forcing" me to buy and paint more is just how awesome Wyrd is!
  7. And if your spouses want to come with you (and haven't yet caught the Malifaux bug), or you find yourself with downtime between games... I'll be demoing Super Dungeon Explore that day too.
  8. We can only do a beer match if Tom and I figure out how to label the grolsh (sp???) bottles.
  9. Pretty sure Nilus needs some enforced sleeping before posting results. I'm sure they're incoming.
  10. Definitely agree with you there Dan. In all of our demos for both Malifaux and Puppet Wars we give newbies the option of either deck. Lots of comments on how nice the puppet decks are, but lots of comparing cards to the back of the deck box. Heck, I was confusing rams for masks for the first few months in game.
  11. We're looking at getting the PrintRBot from Kickstarter... Its first uses will probably be terrain / tokens. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/printrbot/printrbot-your-first-3d-printer
  12. Ditto on the fun times. And my hubby is bringing a porter he's brewing especially for the event, provided that it ages well. Not to mention that Lombard is close enough to downtown to drive down for an afternoon. However, if you register now - only a partial swag bag. Its the 10th anniversary for the con, so things should be hopping!
  13. Registration is already above 1k people! Partial swag bags from here on out, but still plenty of Malifaux tickets. *wink*
  14. SemanticDM and I are in... mainly because Nilus would tar and feather us if we backed out now. I'll probably be running PW demos most of the con, but taking some time out to play in the tourney Sunday. Hope to see you there! Last year was fun times, and judging by the quickly selling out events this should be even more awesome.
  15. I believe we're available to come out Wednesday afternoon to help get everything ready and/or do last minute terrain building and/or taste test SemanticDM's lager he's brewing (of course, if you end up having some basement floor space that night it would be muchly appreciated), I'm sure you'll have lots to truck down on Thursday. Personally, I'll be free to run Puppet Wars demos most of the con minus the PW tourney on Sunday. Gives me a reason to pick up (and paint!) the rest of the boosters. *grin*
  16. I recommend checking out "The Night Circus" (can't remember the author). A Malifaux crew based off of the Cirque Des Rêves would be _Amazing_ Mayhaps I should work on that while SemanticDM works on his Repo outfitted McMourning crew.
  17. Our demos have run more of a draft format: Each person picks a master, and a sidekick of the same suit. Then we split the puppets up by suit (or lack thereof) and everyone gets one pawn of each suit. This gives everyone a pretty good idea of how synergy in your master's suit works as well as giving them options for activations based on the different suits, and avoids the need to only have one suit in your hand to be able to get effects off. So far the only problem we've had is only having one booster pack, so Pandora gets fairly useless if you kill off the only two woes we currently have... Fixed by not playing Pandora and substituting Pokey Vik (Yay for winning the demo contest!!!!).
  18. 4 for me! But now I feel like I can't uncross my eyes. <- Mayhaps a bit OCD with tests....
  19. No sympathy for the Guild, now I have to wait that much longer to get mini Kirai! *sad panda face*
  20. This is by far the most appropriate (and concise) explanation of Puppet Wars I've seen to date. Base game with regular (fixed) small expansions that add complexity in the form of more options - be they cards or miniatures. The LCG or Living Card Game concept has been ramping up in the board gaming world with more and more games coming out that use this expansion strategy (Call of Cthulhu and Lord of the Rings being some of the front runners). There are those of us that appreciate random expansions (CCG or collectible card games such as Magic and L5R), and others that would like to know up front what they're buying and pick accordingly. Releasing random miniatures would undermine a bit of the LCG-like qualities of Puppet wars, but I could see it being more useful as a marketing gimmick to bring in players that love the look of the models and don't want to buy full sets as opposed to Puppet Wars players that want to increase their armies. I believe that part of the reason why Monsterpocalypse (collectible miniatures game) is not more popular is its underlying CCG qualities, but that's just my 2 cents.
  21. One warning (pulled from a lecture Matheiu Fontaine did at Adepticon): Vallejo uses heavy metals in some of its paints... such as cadmium in its Cadmium Red and Yellows. If you are a brush licker, be aware. Discussions abound at : http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/28534-toxicity-of-vallejo-paints/
